Let see after this upcoming fight, if how he will manage to bring his skills and capabilities, if he can still make a win as most of the fans expecting him to be, then his future decision might be announced.
I think this upcoming fight is important for him because he cannot afford to lose 2 straight fights at this age and that would only mean no other than retiring from boxing since it will be clear to him that he cannot box anymore and he needs to step down in order to give chance for the others to show their skills and also make names for themselves. But if he is able to show that he completely dominates his opponent, then retiring is not yet an option rather he will gonna continue to fight until he will no longer has the ability to do so just like Muhammad Ali and the others.

He clearly understands that, and I believe he will retire once he loses in this fight. It has been shared before that, according to Donaire, as long as he doesn't face an opponent with the same power as his or Inoue, he will be good. This shows how confident he is in his division and his belief that he can become a champion again. So, let's trust our man and support him in his journey.

^ And I thought that the fight is going to be cancelled.
But if they are going to be included in the Spence vs. Crawford then the better for Nonito itself. For sure everyone is excited to see this fight in the undercard for the one of the most anticipated fight this year. I might chance my stance on the numbers, it might reach near 1 million because of this inclusion in the line up. So still, Donaire is the favorite although Santiago is chirping away some odds on his favor too.
I'm a bit disappointed that i won't be watching this fight on this weekend but on the other hand, happy that in spite of all of the circumstances leading into this fight, still this will happen and the good thing is that it will be in the undercard of the most awaited fight for this year. As what @bbc,reporter have said that this fight will add more eyes to the Spencer-Crawford fight and definitely, it will also add revenue on the PPV as some of the millions of fans of Nonito will buy just to watch this fight. If the odds for Santiago continues to go high then good for those who still believe in the power of the old man, might be slower this time but the timing is still there and he just needed a couple of punches to KO Santiago I believe. This is a huge upgrade to the Crawford-Spence fight. I saw comments on social media praising this move. Every PPV event is supposed to be filled with great match-ups and at least 2 championship fights but we seldom see it nowadays. Prior to the move, the main supporting event is Pitbull Cruz against undefeated Giovanni Cabrera who seemed raw to this level of fight but hats off to him for taking it anyways. The Mexicans and the huge Mexican-American community now have more reason to buy this event. In Ph, I wonder if this fight can be seen on regular tv aside from the live PPV which not everyone can afford.

No wonder Stake refunded back the amount I bet. But it's still up though. If it's gonna be on the cards under Crawford vs Errol fight then we can wait for that as long as it happens this month.
Most probably it's true this Donaaire vs Santiago fight isn't filling the arena with an audience so it's best to add it on the big event. Say Donaire isn't that much of a big name after a few losses.

Yes, Nonito is more technical than Pacquaio and probably the reason why he is can fight up to this point. Not that badly damage as compare to Manny wherein he has go to a lot of wars around 126-135 against some of the great boxers during that era. And then at 140-147, fighting bigger guys.
Not really that technical, though Donaire has also suffered devastating knockouts in his career. It's Pacquiao who is truly more technical in the ring. Although he may be perceived as a brawler, his exceptional ring IQ is highly evident in most of his fights, allowing him to dominate his opponents. Both Nonito Donaire and Manny Pacquiao are highly skilled boxers known for their technical abilities. However, the concept of 'technical' can be subjective. In terms of style, Donaire is often considered more technical because he has mastered the peek-a-boo technique. On the other hand, Manny excels in various aspects of boxing, making him more technically proficient overall compared to Nonito.

I'm ok with adding it to the Spencer - Crawford fight that's two exciting fights that we are going to watch on the same day, Donaire is not a big attraction anymore I can understand even if its a title fight but if he wins this fight and the title his drawing power will come back, I hope if he wins the title he could make his first defense on his homeland The Philippines, it's been a long time that he fought in the Philippines his last fight was in Cebu in 2016 since there are only a few remaining fights in his career.

Who wanted to hear any update on this fight? Bad new first then good news? Bad news is that this fight is not going to happen anymore at the original date of July 15th. BoxingScene.com has learned that Donaire-Santiago will no longer take place this Saturday at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas as originally scheduled. The vacant WBC bantamweight title fight will instead land on the undercard of the Errol Spence-Terence Crawford Showtime Pay-Per-View event July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. https://www.boxingscene.com/donaire-santiago-pull-from-saturdays-show-land-on-spence-crawford-undercard--176086The good news is that it will land on the Crawford vs Spence fight July 29th. I think it's a good move by Showtime, I mean if we go on the Crawford vs Spence thread fight, when the undercard was released, I will say that most of us are disappointed because there is no name in the undercard. So definitely it will bolster the PPV number of Crawford vs Spence and then Donaire vs Santiago will have a broader audience, win-win situation. Well, that is indeed a good move by the organizers to generate a much bigger revenue to the Spence-Crawford fight and for Donaire-Santiago fight as well. But the problem is, they should have finalized this specific for about a couple of weeks earlier so that some people can adjust to the new schedule because it will be a big disappointment for the people who reserved that day just to watch the fight live at the Cosmopolitan, and in the end, the reserved slot will be wasted because it was moved a little bit late where they can no longer change their off.

Should this fight become the co-main event because they are fighting for the WBC bantamweight championship? Does this also give a chance for Nonito and Santiago to have the promotion put more money in their purse? They should be given more money. Nonito's millions of fans from the Philippines will certainly add more eyes to watch Spence vs. Crawford, I reckon. So far it is considered just a undercard and not a co-main event headliner. But I don't know if there will be incentives in terms of money because they are moving to this fight. Of course, as a Filipino we all have been waiting for another big fight from Nonito and definitely we will glued to the tv and watch Spence vs Crawford too. And so it's good to hear that Donaire will have another great exposure and hopefully, he can cash it in. @Vaculin - yeah, that's one downside of it, but perhaps either those who have purchase it at the said date can refund or can be accommodated in the new date of the fight.

For sure this has been taken into consideration by the management, but not sure how the tickets are for the Donaire vs Santiago, maybe it was not sold out or maybe it is. But it seems that the organizers are really looking to profit more and they might have reach out to ticket holders to inform them about the change. It's weekend anyways, so I doubt that those who are going to watch or have bought the original ticket will have to change a lot from their schedules as Sunday might be a day-off for the rest of us. Specially in United States.

So they are very different in terms of their style, but they accomplished the same goal, winning titles in multiple divisions. And Nonito Donaire may have another crack to win the bantamweight title at age 40, defying father time just like Manny when he defeated Thurman. So we will see how it goes for Donaire and hopefully he can accomplished this record.

The torch has been passed down, Manny Pacquiao did his time and now while Donaire is still active, he got that responsibility to wave the Filipino flag again and be the second Filipino champion to exist this year. It will be a rocky road because father time is really catching up on him but Donaire is not yet ready to give up his dreams and will attempt again the secure the belt, besides, I know that he got this fight because his opponent is not the kind of boxer who can finish him with a surprise.

He is rank next to Pacman in terms of achievements in boxing and popularity, it's just sad that Donaire is already at the peak of his career, we all know he can still fight but eventually, win or lose, he would still make a decision to hang his gloves. As Donaire said in the past, he would like to retire as a champion, so I'm hoping he'll win this fight and maybe aim bigger like retiring after becoming a unified champion at least.

This shows how confident he is in his division and his belief that he can become a champion again. So, let's trust our man and support him in his journey. That's how confident he was, or maybe just a part of his statement to hype the fight, considering the schedule was moved. It will be nice seeing him showing again his capabilities and with how the fans wanted him inside the ring, we will see some hints if he really can dominate even at his age. That statement regarding to how he sees this division and stating those words with full of confidence that he can still reclaim the belt, just not an opponent with the same level of Inoue..

It's just their tactics to market the fight even more because it is not that expected that this bout can generate much revenues compared to the fights they have followed this year, besides, we are talking here about Nonito Donaire, a man who frequently proved his worthiness on the ring and this time, it's not that much different because I'm also confident that he can do the talk and be the champion once again before he start considering his retirement because a championship belt will be a nice exit for almost every boxer. But before all of that, let's see what Donaire can offer to us once he steps foot in the ring again. It will be a good fight knowing how Donaire wanted a full packed confrontation type of fight, unless if Santiago decides to be the opposite. That will be huge disappointment for sure.

Regarding about that, we all know that Donaire will try to take advantage the opportunity while he got the upper hand in this fight and will try to engage in a toe-to-toe fight in the early rounds, but I don't think that Santiago is inclined to do the same thing and will keep up with the phase to cath up with Donaire. I think he will start slow and might be in a defensive mode for a good 5 rounds until he can notice that Donaire is losing his speed.

Nonito's millions of fans from the Philippines will certainly add more eyes to watch Spence vs. Crawford, I reckon. Well, certainly they had some sincere talk and that might be the reason why the organizers decided to merge the event and make the Santiago-Donaire fight a co-main event of the Crawford-Spence fight. These organizers are surely taking advantage while the hype is here and having these two inside one event will surely give them a much bigger revenue as they know that adding a Mexican and Filipino fan bases will definitely help the event to hit the goal. This bout will not be a co-main event because that position has been filled already by Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz vs Giovanni Cabrera and while the undercards has been re-shuffled because of the sudden cancellation of some fights, it led to the re-schedule of the Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago fight but will remain undercard of the Crawford vs Spence fight. This fight should happen today but for some reasons, both organizers have agreed to make it a one big event to take advantage of the opportunity and this is much better because Donaire will be on a much bigger stage.

I just read about the cancellation of the Donaire - Santiago fights and moving to July 29 as an undercard fight of the Crawford vs Spence fight. It looks like the organizer wanted to boost the audience of Crawford and Spence Jr. fight by adding another title fight on their undercard. I also think that it is a practical move, since the the date gap between the fight is just small. This fight should happen today but for some reasons, both organizers have agreed to make it a one big event to take advantage of the opportunity and this is much better because Donaire will be on a much bigger stage.
Yeah it is on a bigger stage but sadly they are not the main event.

I agree, Manny is considered as a brawler, as compare to Nonito who uses more if his boxing skills and then his impeccable timing to win against his opponents. I wouldn't category call it a passing of the torch Manny and Nonito is almost contemporaries in their career, although different in weight class. That's why during the mid to late 2010's Philippine boxing is really enjoying it's high because of this 2 fighters and other boxers too. There are a lot of young Philippine boxer though, but so far, majority of them lost in the last couple of years. And it was just Nonito who was able to win a belt. But now it's Marlon Tapales and hopefully they can make a comeback and produce more world boxing champions. Nonito has a great chance to be included again in history if he will win against Santiago.

Well, it depends on what you mean on your own phrase because by passing of the torch for me, is that Pacquiao entrusted it all to Nonito Donaire to carry the Philippine flag because at that time, Pacquiao did his retirement and since Donaire is still active, there's no sense to pass the torch to a much younger line because Donaire is still active in the sport. And if Donaire will retire in the next couple of years or this year, we never know when, I think it's much sensible for Casimero to carry it and continue that the have started.
