I think his career is totally over now since we can't see a furious Donaire as same as before. Age is showing up and that's the reason why he keep losing to much younger opponents.
I hope his wife will tell him that, he is listening to his wife and also a fighter herself for a boxer the last to give up is the mind and the heart, on this match his speed and power are not there anymore I hope he and his family will see this fight and decide to give up, we all want Donaire to have a graceful exit but two successive losses where he is badly beaten is not a motivation to continue, he is multiple champions, it has been a great journey after he won the title against Vic Darchinyan with a one-punch, fifth-round knockout (KO), the best time is now we don't want him to get badly injured in his next fight. For sure her wife tell him to consider retirement but I guess Nonito is the one arranging a fight for his self then just tell it to her wife that he like to fight for some particular fighter. Its his passion so I guess her wife just supporting Donaire this is the reason why he still on the canvass fighting. But as of the moment he got 2nd straight losses so I guess this is enough. Nonito need to retire before his career and health will be ruined since he can continue his passion by teaching new generation of Filipino fighters which have potential to became a world champions in future. I doubt Donaire will go for another one after this, though it's not uncommon for fighters to retire after their last win. His camp will surely think this through and might even give him options to just let things go and hang his gloves for good. Santiago is not known to be a heavy hitter and his stamina is comparatively weak compared to a veteran Donaire, but I think the latter's age is slowly catching up, and Santiago beat him just by a short margin earning him the decision. Even if Donaire's wife supports him in his passion, his body and age will surely be something that will not help him in his ventures to get that final win before retirement. He already consider a retirement before but he always go for another fight, so we don't know yet what will be his next move after those defeats he encounter since no official statement coming from his camp regarding on this possible retirement. Only his fans asking this to happen since many of his fans don't want to see him get defeated for another time again or even worse encounter a health issue which he might regret for the rest of his life. Maybe for now let see the updates regarding on this since maybe he don't really consider this yet since in his mind he can still fight.

I don't think anyone here expected Donaire to lose, but it turns out the opposite happened. We thought Santiago would be a good match for Donaire's target to KO his opponent, but Santiago has matured and knows how to play the game well. He clearly knew how to beat Donaire, resulting in a unanimous decision win.
What can I say, I guess it's time for Donaire to hang up his gloves. He is already old, and it's evident he doesn't have the same activity he had in the past. To think that Santiago isn't even a top contender, and he still defeated Donaire via UD, that's enough to conclude his boxing journey is over.
Congratulations to Santiago! It was a good win for him, and now he is the champion.
It's just that Donaire can't pull the trigger anymore and yup nobody expected (at least we Filipinos) of this outcome. Santiago is ranked lower then in the minds of an ordinary fans, this fight is one that would make Donaire look good in the ring and once again break another record but turned out that this could be the end of his colorful career, nothing to be ashamed of and nothing else to prove so yeah, it's time to hang up the gloves for good. Congrats to those who back Santiago, very juice odds.

Yup, there's nothing to prove he got his chance during his prime and we know how he performs before, But after this loss, it's better to hang his gloves and not to think about fighting again. In his age, health is important. Good thing that there's no further major damage after the fight, it might be a good blessing and a good way to say his farewell in the ring.

Nobody surely saw that coming and we can somehow tell from the odds that most of the bettors were putting their money towards Donaire to win, which is very reasonable as how could we go against him against a boxer that is not yet making any name in the industry and haven't got a good fight. Well, after this, safe to say that his rankings will improve a lot because defeating Donaire is such a great achievement.

Yes, really hard to see Donaire losing, actually he has a good chance, however, as the fight goes on, he is fading and I see that he could be losing this fight and let it slip away. But we will give credit to Santiago, they had a good game plan against Donaire and they executed it very well and even though he was caught with that left hand, it seems that Donaire's power is gone. And just like the rest of you guys say, maybe this fight is enough reason for him and Rachel to decide to quit and not fight again. He has done everything in his career and several times after his lost, we thought that he is done. However, losing back to back specially against Santiago, it doesn't look good for Donaire.

~snip~
For my part, I highly respect the opinion of an unborn Donaire, obviously he has a unique experience in boxing, I don't, I barely practiced it as a sport and I know what most do, but Donaire's criteria is unique, also if I'm wrong, then I have nothing left to learn from what he predicted and well, it would be a great knowledge that I would be acquiring, but the truth is that it seems difficult for Fulton to beat Inoue.
Even if he had fought Inoue, Donaire's prediction is just one man's prediction, I mean his prediction is equal to that of ours, the only advantage that he has is that he is a boxer and knows the sports very well. In the "Tale of the Tape", Fulton will be the bigger boxer as he has fought in this division for quite some time and Inoue fighting for the first time in this division, do he bring his power and speed to 122lbs, which remains to be seen and that makes Fulton on the advantage to Donaire's view. Let us not forget that the fight will be held in Japan, the only way for you to win is via knockout and I don't think that Fulton could KO Inoue so with that I will be betting Inoue to win via decision @3.10, a good bet for me. His prediction is true because it is someone's normally, what happens is that much more attention is always paid to him because he is a man who is in the middle, he must know many more details than us as fans, it may be that he enters They get to know each other a little better and exchange messages from time to time, they know what their training style is like and they can even share details of how they can improve their technique, something like soccer players who have their numbers and everything, as far as Personally, I think that Donaire here with the prediction failed with everything because the Japanese is a man who, above all , has a lot of discipline and does things with more moderation, and his preparation is on another level. I would like that one day Inoue could give away what a day of his training is like, it would be great to see him how he does it, I imagine that his exercises are quite strong and with many repetitions, it is something that I can only Imagine , because his training must be very well, he always ensures his fights and makes everything look very easy, that's what I admire most about Inoue, on the other hand I hope that Donaire finally seizes the Opportunity to fight and can give us a good demonstration of good boxing. and Nonito: Nonito Donaire weighs up future after world title loss to Alexandro SantiagoThe future of Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire 42-8 (28) remains up in the air after he fell short in his bid to win the vacant WBC bantamweight title against Alexandro ‘Peque’ Santiago 28-3-5 (14) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night.
The 40-year-old Filipino veteran struggled with the pace set by Santiago and couldn’t seem to pull the trigger on his counter punches.
Donaire cut Santiago in the early rounds with a left hook but was unable capitalise. Mexican underdog Santiago, 27, fought his heart out throughout the contest as he pressured the former four-weight world champion from the first bell until the last. Source: https://www.ringnews24.com/2023/07/30/nonito-donaire-weighs-up-future-after-world-title-loss-to-alexandro-santiago/The truth is something sad about Nonito , in particular I would have liked to see him win, but I think that Nonito has already lost a lot of shape, he has not trained as he is, it is Difficult for him now to ask for another fight.

Another plus factor is the name behind that win, Donaire even it's no longer in his prime, still a well-respected champ from this division. Time to move on now. It's Santiagos' journey now while with Donaire. Chance, seeing him hanging his gloves, is his next possible decision.

I am hoping he will lose, hehe... Because I want a Filipino champion to challenge and defeat him. Filipino boxers excel in the bantamweight division; we have a lot of fighters who could eventually become challengers if Santiago chooses to stay and defend his title. So far we haven't heard anything about Donaire, maybe it's not yet sink into his mind that he let this one slip away. But give him a couple more days or even months at least at the end of the year and decide what will be his fate, whether to continue or not.
He probably is thinking wisely because making a decision as he gets older is crucial. If he loses to Inoue and then to a less popular boxer, it might indicate that his time is already over, but this is just our personal opinion. Ultimately, he will be the one to make the final decision. These are the current champions in the division. WBO: Jason Moloney
IBF: Vacant
WBA: Takuma Inoue
WBC: Alexandro Santiago

WBC: Alexandro Santiago ^^ That's a solid 118 lbs champions list, so we will see how Santiago will have his name in the mix. It seems that the goal of boxers right now is to immediately unify all the belts. I remember there was a time wherein when you become a champion, you will have to defend your belts successively and seldom fight to get the other belts or at least in the modern era 4 belts is not even the plan. But we have like Inoue, Crawford and Taylor and maybe there are others as well who have unified the title in the past. So its seems that we have seen the shape of 118 lbs already as we only have one organization that doesn't have a champion.

IBF: Vacant
WBA: Takuma Inoue
WBC: Alexandro Santiago There's a vacant title, which is the IBF, and as we can see from the rankings at https://www.boxingscene.com/rankings, the top 3 boxers include only one Filipino. However, if we look at the WBO rankings, Reymart Gaballo is currently ranked number 1, which means he could be a challenger to Jason Moloney in a mandatory fight. Just imagine, if Reymart Gaballo secures the IBF belt, he can have a unification fight against any of the champions, and it's possible that he could become an undisputed champion, as none of the current champions are as strong as Inoue. His next journey might a money making fight for him, trying to add more belts under his name and the possibility to collect all those available from this division may take place, something that the "Monster" Inoue left after moving up and earn another belt in a different division. Still far to conclude as there's no update yet if Gaballo will be schedule to any title fight.

Bantamweight IBF Top 3 BoxersEmmanuel Rodriguez Melvin Lopez Reymart GaballoI think Jason Moloney did a great job at avoiding Nonito Donaire for the WBC fight because he was being challenged by Donaire. Now that he is defeated, he can try and dominate the 4 organizations thinking he could win against the new champions. That might be their strategy, in my opinion. But, I am a Filipino so I want Reymart Gaballo to do this instead. Take the IBF title first, if it will be Moloney who will try to take it then he hits 2 birds with 1 stone stealing the WBO title in the process if he wins. And then he could avenge Donaire by defeating Santiago. The chance is not that low for Gaballo to dominate the Bantamweight division. I think he can do it.

That's interesting. We might see Gaballo hyping his career, if fate permits him to win over Maloney.
Gaballos' career was hyped when he was still undefeated, but when he lost to Donaire, he was out of circulation for a while. Now, since Donaire has experienced losses and is no longer a champion, and probably nearing retirement, Gaballo's chance has resurfaced, especially as the current champions are not on par with Donaire during his prime. Furthermore, Gaballo's loss against Donaire might actually be beneficial, as he can use that experience to mature and improve as a boxer. As of now, there's no news yet on when Gaballo will fight or whom he will fight against, but considering his young age (only 26 years old), I believe he still has a promising future ahead in boxing. I haven't followed this kid closely, so I was surprised to find out from https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/677961 that he had two wins after his loss to Donaire. Judging by his activity, we can say that he is an active boxer.

Since his lose to Donaire, Gaballo has fought twice in the Philippines with his new trainer, the old Donaire (Nonito's father) and they said that Gaballo has improved a lot when Nonito Sr take over as the trainer. I don't know if Gaballo has the chance to fight any of the bantamweight belt but if he do i am confident that he could make life difficult of either Santiago or Moloney.

True, Gaballo is a slugger, and he has often relied on his strength. However, as you mentioned, he has improved significantly, and this could lead us to witness a different Gaballo—one who could potentially defeat a champion in the bantamweight division. He certainly has fighting skills, and I don't see Santiago and Moloney as difficult opponents to deal with in the ring. Gaballo definitely has a chance, but I wouldn't expect him to guarantee a win.

Donaire is emotionally hurt after finding out that his father who used to be his former trainer on his first title shot against Darchinyan predicted that he would be knocked out by Santiago Wow. Just found out that my DAD was predicting I'd get koed by Santiago. That stings differently https://twitter.com/filipinoflash/status/1686490127613427712Nonito Donaire Jr. ‘hurt’ after dad predicted he would get knocked out by SantiagoThey have a very bitter parting of ways Donaire Sr. should not say that thing it's like wishing that his son to be in trouble you never do that to your son, boxing is a dangerous sport he knows it since he is a trainer also, by saying this he doesn't care on his son anymore.

Yes, I also read this feed in my twitter, I thought him and his father has settled their differences already. But it seems the older Donaire has some hatchet to bury with his son. And it's really sad to hear this one. It was a bitter separation as far as I can remember, the involvement of Rachel Donaire as a manager in his boxing career really put a dent on his father and they were never the same again.

I thought he will be in the mix or at least fight for the title eliminator? And thanks for this news, I don't know that he is being trained by Nonito Sr. Was he the trainer when Nonito Jr, knockout Gaballo though? So in any case, this is the opposite of what is happening with Americans, their father was their trainer and they are really supportive about their sons, Like Bill Haney, Lopez Sr, the Benadivez brothers and others. But here, Nonito Sr was butt hurt when Jr left him and really shut him down for good when Nonito Jr become a champion and now a legend.

Donaire probably is like Mayweather, who also does not have a good relationship with his father. Well, it's sad news, but we don't know what happened between them. All we know is that Donaire Sr. is a good trainer, and personally I don't agree with his prediction because it's something personal. He is not making views based on professional judgment.
