I think credit goes to Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka for their brilliant 10th wicket partnership which turned out to be the highest as well for Sri Lanka in ODI world cup. But the Sri Lankan batsmen did not perform well due to which they lost by a huge margin against New Zealand today. With this loss, their Champions Trophy run came to an end. But if the match had been a bit tighter then maybe it would have been easier for Pakistan to play the semi-final. Now Pakistan has to match the equation to play semi-final. If Pakistan bat first they need to score 300 plus runs England need to be all out within 100 runs. And if Pakistan gets to bowl first then England have to be all out within 100 runs and Pakistan have to complete the match in 2.5 overs.

What do you expect from Sri Lanka. In another 5 years or so, it will be really difficult for Sri Lanka to justify their full member status. After the retirement of their star players such as Dilshan and Malinga, Sri Lanka has been on a downward spiral. Even Angelo Mathews is nearing retirement. There are some promising players such as Hasaranga, Pathirana and Theekshana still representing Sri Lanka, but they have been very inconsistent. Hard luck for Pakistan. They wanted Sri Lanka to win, but that never happened.
