Why on the exchanges such a different course with what it is connected? https://coinmarketcap.com/ru/currencies/namecoin/#markets

I don't really get it, either.

As far as I know, WEX has some withdrawal problems concerning bitcoins and fiat (use google). And namecoin withdrawal is possible. So everyone, who cannot withdraw bitcoins, buys namecoins instead and withdraws those. Clearly, you do not sell the coins at another exchange for 1/5 of the price. And if you do so, the price at the other exchanges drops further. At the same time, the namecoin price at WEX increases.

If you buy namecoins cheaply at cryptopia and try to sell those at WEX, the question is, which coin you would buy ... so I suspect, that arbitrage is not possible.

It's a shame, that coinmarketcap does not correct for that.

BTW, the namecoin price is really low in the moment (e.g. cryptopia). You get almost 2000 NMC for 1000 €. Imho a bargain, since there are only 21 million coins in total.

Yeah, you get it.

The only way to get $$ or bitcoin out from wex is to buy namecoin and a few other alts and sell them on other exchanges. It might be better to loose 80% then 100%.

Very cool!  We'll see if it has any impact on the market price, though ... perhaps only after the general bear market / bad sentiment turns.

True. I also think, that the decrease in supply will shown an effect much later. But this is not the worst situation. Time enough to buy several thousands of namecoins.

Besides, there are many news on https://namecoin.org/. However, I still do not understand, how, e.g., ConsensusJ-Namecoin works (https://namecoin.org/docs/bitcoinj-name-lookups/). I tested it again and there is the same error as a few months before. One problem is, that the given example does not provide the output to expect.

This also looks very promising: https://namecoin.org/2018/10/04/electrum-nmc-name-script-deserialization-round-2.html

Thanks trantute2 for compiling the news! That looks really good, I hope the efforts of the coders can bring us to a solution with really good usability "for the masses". In this case, I guess Namecoin is seriously undervalued Wink

True. Relative to Bitcoin, the price of Namecoin is at its historical low.

Coinmarketcap does not use WEX anymore for determining the Namecoin-price. And the price at WEX ($) is still increasing, whereas the price on the other exchanges seems stable.

Maybe, every Namecoin, which is bought at WEX, is sold on some other exchange. Decreasing the supply and increasing the price at WEX, whereas on the other exchanges, the coins are immediately bought for the current price so that the non-WEX price is in an equilibrium.

It becomes really interesting, when WEX's Namecoin supply collapses (and with it maybe the whole exchange), since the supply there cannot be infinite (which is already reflected by the increasing price). That is, pay attention to WEX's Namecoin price excess. I think 8$ for Namecoin at WEX without at general crypto bull market, and WEX is history.

I think the users on WEX only have the option to cash out of the exchange using some alts so it probably has a bearning on the price although if price for namecoin goes too far up there I can't see too many willing to take such a large hit by selling at the lower prices the other exchanges are offering unless they are buying and simply taking them off the exchange and holding them on a wallet waiting for a recovery or until they can at least get the price they paid for them on WEX but on an exchange without cashing out issues at some later stage if price recovers a bit and liquidity allows it.

On another note I found an old but interesting tweet mentioning namecoin. It has some links posted on it too.

I have a question regarding what's happening in the namecoin mempool.

I have a TX with good fees, and lock in the mempool for 2 days now.

I see in the mempool lot of pending TX, and lot of emply blocks mined.

What's going on ? Is the merge mining of big pool not including TX ?

What can we do to fix this ?

Thanks for futur answer. Smiley

Can you perhaps share your txid, so I or someone else can check the transaction?  Also, what version of Namecoin are you using?  I've never had any issues getting transactions mined (especially not recently).

Awesome. Thank you for actually doing work on Namecoin.

Very cool. I added the plugin to my chrome browser and finally got to my first .bit website (http://nayuki.bit).

Chrome plugin:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dotbitme-bit-web-surfer/kkjfoinnbmgmjgmiakbbhggdmccbjhga?hl=en

As for the price on WEX...I had 21k NMC on there which they were likely using to allow withdrawals in NMC. I finally got my account back and took 14k NMC off of there so their supply went down quite a bit. I still bave 7k NMEC which is losing value (also likely due to more limited supply). In theory they are supposed to convert NMEC to NMC next year at full value.

I was on legacy version (0.3.8 )

here the tx id 3557f48b0e7611fd4049af8d547c0bd90a3e98017f9340939215ba28d121ae1e

There were some changes (related to transaction signatures) that may lead to transactions created by the old version to be seen as non-standard and not relayed/mined by new versions.  Presumably that's the case here.

I don't see the transaction on my node, so I can't see the details about it.  If you want me or someone else to debug this further, try "namecoin-cli getrawtransaction 3557f48b0e7611fd4049af8d547c0bd90a3e98017f9340939215ba28d121ae1e" and send the full hex.

To fix this, I think the best way is to upgrade to a new version (perhaps you already did since you said "I was") and just try to redo the name update.  This will double spend the name coin and just invalidate the previous transaction.

Thanks a lot for the explaination. I'm gonna rescan and double spend, it was token TX only.
