hey one of my R9 290 rigs has stopped working ,,,,,
im using badman sgminer with 14.6 drivers  but after about 2 minutes the miner freezes and then the whole pc freezes,,, there are no "display driver fail" messages and the issue is the same for all algo's and all pools I have run cc cleaner to try to find a pc problem but the miner still freezes ,,, the only thing i have not yet done is reinstall the drivers

can anyone throw any light on this

cheers

Edit I have just noticed that when the miner freezes the temp and fan speed jump from 80 degrees 50% to 511 degrees 100% on all cards also when the pc starts it automatically changes to "windows basic display mode"

OUCH!  That sounds like a hardware issue to me, nothing to do with software.  "Have you turned it off and on again?"  My first instinct would be to clean the cards, dust-bunnies on fans and fins, just plain old look-see, then test them out one at a time.  Poke it with a stick.

Quark - 280X is doing 15.33MH/s

Which version of the driver? What a miner? Operating frequencies of video card? Your message here is not very informative ..

Please try reducing the clock frequency.

What are the speed seen in the pool? With XI=2048, the pool will  only recognize about 80-90% of the hash rate with xI=512.

Try Catalyst 14.6[rc2] w/ Worksize@128 and Intensity@23, you should be able to hit ~5.6 with clocks @ 1170/1250.

thanks ,,, yeah i'm on 14.6 drivers and pushing clocks to the max  ,,,, so is it another R9 290 bottle neck that stops R9 290 getting higher hash rates ?

@semajjames

I'm thinking your .bin file may have been generated with another driver before installing 14.6, otherwise I suggest you delete your current .bin and try with my previously mentioned settings and ensure you're running on 14.6[RC2] as 14.6 was released in several builds.

@Wolf0

Your work never ceases to amaze me.  They say brightness belongs to the sun but I beg to differ.

Do you have any intention of releasing your Quark optimizations and if so, can you predict a date and or price?

It would be much appreciated if you can suggest any performance improvements or perhaps point us to better kernels/.bins/miners.

With my full-custom miner, when that is complete, or close enough to it. I'll be releasing that with different fees for diff algos. Just earlier today, I added ADL code, plus some code to get and set fanspeed.

Screenshot of test run (nsfw): https://ottrbutt.com/miner/wolfcustom-05132015-3.png

The RPM calculation there is to convert a percent into an RPM value so the user (and API client dev) doesn't have to care about it.

Looking forward to it, don't hesitate to keep us updated.

On another note, do you have a repository where we can find your previously released material?

Wolf, wtf are you running to get those kinds of speed out of quark, all just optimizations of cl files
??

i see, hopefully you can include simple inflation coin if you optimize quark,

since based on that....

should be a natural step...

Nope, the miner itself needs to be changed, as the design is majorly stupid.

few realize this but quark was forked right from the russian simple inflation coin, they changed it from 6 to 8 rounds, not sure of the motivation or such

So I don't know if anyone has run across this yet, but it's definitely an issue that I ran into.  I'm trying to mine with SGminer, doing 2 different algo's at once.

I downloaded the latest compiled version and tried with that as well just to be sure.

My rig currently has 4 GPU's, and I'm trying to split them to run on different algo's.

The setup I use, is batch to tell pool, solo, or whatever, and the .conf has all the details specific to each GPU.

This works just fine, as long as all 4 GPU's run the same thing.

The problem starts at this command:    "device": "2,3", as SGminer will not operate correctly using that.  It will do "device": "0,1", just fine, but the 2,3 it will not even operate correctly if it is the first instance of SGminer.

I've tried it on the wolf0 build, tried it on this build - sgminer-5.1-dev-2014-11-10-win32.zip, and tried it on this build (the latest available here  - https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#sgminer)- sgminer_v5.1_2015-03-09-win32.zip

This screencap is using this build - sgminer_v5.1_2015-03-09-win32.zip, and it is the only instance of SGminer running.  It shows GPU 0 & 1 acting exactly as they should be.

This is the same version, also the only instance of SGminer running, but it's attempting to run GPU's 2 & 3.  (note the GPU id's at the left of the screen, yet the temps are correct for the GPU's it's supposed to be running)

I even broke it down to single GPU's, and while GPU 0 shows correcly, nothing else does.  And while the others (Anything started without "device" : "0" do actually mine at a greatly reduced rate, trying to run more than one will eventually crash the drivers.

Also notice the 2nd one building a bin, they are using the same settings that were used in the 4 GPU configuration, just pared down, there's no need to create a bin..

That's definitely a bug.

Old news, I kept asking for it to be fixed, but no luck.

Is that only on this branch, or all branches?

-dev is older, I think it MIGHT work.

LOL, dev is definitely older!!!

The latest compiled daily is from november 13th of last year.  https://www.nicehash.com/download/nightly/sgminer-dev-daily-20141113-10-win32.zip

But, as long as it does x11 and neoscrypt with proper device management, I'm cool with that for now..

Nope - 290X can exceed 18MH/s on Quark; it's the design.

Wolf0    is that 18MH/s with stock kernel or is that with your own modded kernel

What is the current profitable Quark coin at the moment? I rather mine it directly then thru Nicehash? Its difficulty is around 66300 or so.

I'm in dire need of assistance with an issue which has been plaguing me ever since SGminer was introduced despite the fact that I've invested more time troubleshooting than I care to mention.  The rig in question is composed of 2 r290x & 1 r290 and my problem is encountered trying to disable the second GPU from startup w/ the following command-line: -d 0,2 via .bat or "devices" : "0,2" via .config file.  This results in GPU2 being absent from the miner although it seems to be mining given the hefty load on GPU observed by Afterburner and GPU1 starting in a disabled state while GPU0 is active for some very odd reason.  The purpose of all this is so that I can game or watch movies on GPU1 while GPU0&2 are mining.  I'm well aware that I can simply disable GPU1 manually after the miner is launched but every time the kernel switches, so do my clocks which subsequently crashes my rig.  The sole solution which comes to mind is by putting my desired clocks for all algorithms for that particular GPU in my config file but I would prefer having it disabled all together.

I really hope someone can get to the bottom of this one in which case I would like to offer my thanks in advance!

I've been asking around; no one seems to know.

Yes the only ones I can find are DimeCoin, Quark, SecureCoin and the MonetaryUnit, however all those have a completely different difficulty.

Maybe its a Chinese or some other Foreign coin.
