You have to bios flash to get those lower clocks available?

I have a Sapphire 5970 - any suggested bios out there?

You mean the memory clocks down to 300? No no flash is necessary AFAIK. If you use windows go and grab MSI afterburner. Search this mining section for a thread that's dedicated to lowering mem clocks. There are certain steps you need to take to get the mem clocks that low - don't worry they're not hard. I'm about to go to sleep here so I'm sorry but I can't paste a direct link to the thread - normally I would....

 Any idea whether this would lighten the work loads on pool servers too?

I see increased number of rejected units, probably because current work is not being dropped but reported to server and rejected, happens right after long pool message

I'm not seeing any increase since I've been running it. Perhaps it is work that is submitted right before LP is checked so it's rejected by the server because of new data?
That happens to me every time after the LP message and I get even 2 rejected results every now and then. Roughly 4% rejected results. I've tried to attach an image but the server says some folder is full or probably attaching files is forbidden but here it is on Imageshack:

Darn - don't use KDE - XFCE -- thanks though

I'll post my info

5970 at 805/1000

poclbm (from git) = 316 Mh/s (-v -w128 -f2)

phoenix = 311 (VECTORS=on AGGRESSION=10 WORKSIZE=128 FASTLOOP)
phoenix = 343 (same as above with BFI_INT added)

This will be widespread by this evening and difficulty will go up for sure.

Wonder if mrb_'s miner is posting numbers this fast?

Not using KDE myself either.  It's dependencies are just QT and QT Networking, iirc.

Get it directly here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl/
There is a .deb that will work with Ubuntu 10.10 here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl/files/deb%20binaries/

The packages libwxbase2.8-0 and libwxgtk2.8-0 need to be installed before this as dependencies before installing the amdovdrvctrl program.

Then you need to configure a OverDrive file to execute like the following (courtesy of Raulo):

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<OVERDRIVE_PROFILE>
  <PERFORMANCE_LEVEL level="2" gpu="85000" mem="30000" voltage="1088"/>
  <PERFORMANCE_LEVEL level="1" gpu="55000" mem="30000" voltage="1038"/>
  <PERFORMANCE_LEVEL level="0" gpu="15700" mem="30000" voltage="1000"/>
  <FAN_SETTING percentage="AUTO"/>
  <FAN_CTRL enabled="yes"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_CURVE type="0"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_POINT nr="0" temperature="2000" percentage="0"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_POINT nr="1" temperature="4000" percentage="2500"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_POINT nr="2" temperature="6000" percentage="5000"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_POINT nr="3" temperature="8000" percentage="7500"/>
  <FAN_CTRL_POINT nr="4" temperature="10000" percentage="10000"/>
  <MONITOR_SAMPLE_TIME interval="10"/>
  <COLOR_PROFILE enabled="no" longitude="-13.000000" latitude="52.000000" color_temp_day="130000" color_temp_night="68000" transition="30"/>
</OVERDRIVE_PROFILE>

Warning: Do not use this file without verifying the settings or changing them for your card. Running this program with the wrong settings can kill your card.

@grndzero - thanks!

Can you use a range besides the 300?

Code:
jw@Krypton:~$ aticonfig --odgc --adapter=all

Adapter 0 - ATI Radeon HD 5900 Series
                            Core (MHz)    Memory (MHz)
           Current Clocks :    805           1000
             Current Peak :    805           1000
  Configurable Peak Range : [550-1000]     [1000-1500]
                 GPU load :    99%

Adapter 1 - ATI Radeon HD 5900 Series
                            Core (MHz)    Memory (MHz)
           Current Clocks :    805           1000
             Current Peak :    805           1000
  Configurable Peak Range : [550-1000]     [1000-1500]
                 GPU load :    99%

EDIT - Need to learn how to install .deb packages manually.  I am new to Ubuntu (knew Gentoo better - sorta)  Wink

I've had AMDOverdriveCtl for a week and just got around to trying it out. Man does it make a difference!

900/1000

poclbm - 317Mh/s
phoenix - 343Mh/s

900/300

poclbm - 293Mh/s
phoenix - 360Mh/s!

I also got to drop my fan speed from 80% to 60% (much less noisy) to keep the same temp ~70C!

I put a 120mm fan on top of the 5970 - allows me to turn down the fan to 50% and keep temps around 70

The GPU is in a 4u case so it is easy to lay the fan on it

Yes, I actually started at 600 and stepped it down to 300, but even when I put 600 in the config file amdconfig showed 300 as the bottom point. Some people have said that theirs wouldn't go all the way down to 300 without locking up.

I also hard coded the fan speed in my file instead of AUTO and turned off fan control.

EDIT - Need to learn how to install .deb packages manually.  I am new to Ubuntu (knew Gentoo better - sorta)  Wink

From Terminal:
sudo apt-get install libwxbase2.8-0 libwxgtk2.8-0
sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb

That is different than what I mentioned above but apparently works for some.  For me, that program just segfaults.

Currently Phoenix doesn't interrupt sending results to the server when new work is pushed. Those rejected shares were probably sent or in the process of being sent when the LP push was received. This does not reduce the number of accepted shares compared to other miners because the kernel starts on the new work within a fraction of a second of the long poll returning.

I know that poclbm clears its result queue when a long poll is received, so the best way to compare it to Phoenix is to look at the total accepted shares rather than the percentage.

I must have had twice your headache setting up the ATI Stream SDK on Linux for the first time. I'm guessing you downloaded it as a single archive from ATI's site?
Try setting the ATISTREAMSDKROOT environment variable to point to the directory where you extracted the SDK, since those compilation errors are most likely the result of the Stream compiler not being able to find the Stream libraries to link against.

Thanks, that did it!

Also, this document was extremely useful in getting the SDK set up. I wish I had found that before I started my install, it would have saved me a lot of trouble. Wink

Nice document, very interesting, thanks again.

Absolutely amazing work.  With the new BFI_INT flag, my 5870s are churning out work at 420-421 mHash/sec each!
