According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

One click install doesn't work. Nothing appears when I click at nem-monitor.

Standalone version is not user friendly. There is no readme like in NXT. How can I get it working?

EDIT: nevermind. I started NCC and NIS. There was an IP address in the command prompt. Wrote that down and it worked.

Guys, let's not make this a fight between NEM and Nxt again, cause it's not. This is not a zero-sum game, hence bashing other coins is not necessary for winning.

I created a real NEM address and a private/public key.

But the client gives a warning. Can I send the NEMstake to the created address safely?

I'm waiting with my NXT wallet open and ready to redeem my NEMstake. Can anyone confirm that I can ignore those errors, because I managed to create a real NEM account?

Not fighting. Just an advice. It would be handy if there is a readme for people like me who never started the NEM client before.

Yeah, that's a good advice. My post was not directed at you. Last few pages discussion drifted to NEM is way ahead of Nxt and better and etc. Right now we need to focus on NEM, the launch is approaching and there are still lots of things to do. The dev team is especially busy, fixing and refining things and preparing NEM for the launch. The marketing team is also busy preparing some good stuff to accompany the the dev work.

That said, we are always eager and interested in hearing honest and intelligent opinions/feedback and really appreciate when we see it. Please also note that among the people who care and offer thoughtful criticism, there are also lots of trolls who neither care, nor want to help, but try to induce fear, uncertainty and doubt. As with every serious project we've had our fair share of challenges but have managed to overcome them and move forward, thus, we are very close to a major milestone for NEM, our official launch. We will still face problems and expect a good deal of trolls too, but we'll do our best to keep moving forward, this is what we do.

you just can seize stakes that have been paid for by NXT or whatever. Sure you can charge a reasonable holding in the don't turn up, or admin fee.

Don't go seizing them though.

Perhaps you could buy them back and hold the funds to give them back in funds purchased but this is second guessing what the purchaser wanted.

Things happen people don't log on.

I am you could say quite regular, but haven;t had nearly as much time as I would like to follow nem

Deadlines could only be used if they were clearly articulated at the the beginning eg terms and conditions of IPO
Dohhhhhhhhhhhh.......it wasn't an IPO......for the gazillionth time.......

what was it then?

it was a call for participation. not an ipo.

in an ipo you get a number of shares/coins that is directly corrolated to the amount you invested.

people payed a variable fee (that increased over time from 0 - ~700nxt) to join the movement. the benefit of join said movement is that you are allocated 1 million nem for your participation. every see "dallas buyers club"? so you did not invest and get 1 million in return for an investment. you  payed a nominal fee to join a movement and it just happens that one of the perks is getting 1 million nem. there is no legal binding in this deal that stakes must be held for x time..

Unless there was a specific statement to the effect non claimed stakes could be seized, the "join the movement" heading does not change this. Part of the joining was a precise numerical  equation based on given certain number of NXTs or something for something else. The Dallas buyers club is irrelevant, as it was not in the terms on nem.

Your claim

"you did not invest and get 1 million in return for an investment. you  payed a nominal fee to join a movement and it just happens that one of the perks is getting 1 million nem"

is orthoganal to the terms of NEM which stated exactly that you get a stake in nem for a certain consideration, you even note the variable fee

I note in to original thread post that it says
Quote
3. How can I get my shares ?

"You will need to access your BTT account to send a PM or make a post confirming the ownership of the account to claim your share. Detail instructions in an announcement will be posted here, NEM reddit, NEM facebook, ournem website and the announcement will last at least 1 month. It is your responsibility to read and follow the instructions to claim your shares. So please check back frequently. Thanks."

so this is to claim shares, and does cast responsibility back, however it does not set out what can be done if you don't claim shares. As usual terms are not complete confusion follows. Alts defn need some legal help, just for the sake of haveing better terms that stop things later. And by legal I mean not for court legal, but for experience to set out good terms.

however I don't know if this was edited in later.....probally not.

It is still better not to sieze stakes. Look at those people who bought in BTC early and forgot about if for years. they still have them if they kept the private keys.

This thread has made me sad to see the past few days which is why I have not posted. I think it is just an inevitable part of the redemption process that all this fighting will occur. Once this is behind us everyone will forget about it and we can move on and start to really try and do what NEM has set out to do.

I'll really be glad to just get this over with. People are acting like it is an easy thing to manually redeem 3000+ stakes and distribute coins for them for a small handful of volunteers. The main thing I don't understand is those who are getting so riled up over unclaimed stakes which, if you are here getting riled up about it, should not even be a problem for you. There are going to be unclaimed stakes, just face it. There are plenty of people who paid the fee to join NEM and forgot about it or just do not care. Forget about them. What have they even done to deserve 1 million NEM other than paying an insignificant fee? If they want to get some NEM later when they realize its true potential and value then they can buy in and/or harvest like everyone else. In these early days of NEM, we need people who are dedicated to making NEM something used by every single person on the planet, not a bunch of people sitting around waiting on the rest of us to make them millionaires or billionaires. Of course, this entire movement is about financial freedom, but nobody ever said it was the "sit around and do nothing and get rich movement", particularly for us initial stakeholders.

I really wanted to try and make this the one crypto community that was friendly, nice, and free of all the bickering and drama of literally every other crypto community out there (something even Dogecoin could not manage to maintain). But, now I see that once money is involved, greed takes over as part of human nature and the fighting begins. That's a very sad fact for me to face, but I suppose I have to realize I can't expect everyone that comes here to be friendly and that trolls are an inevitable nature of the anonymity of the Internet. I'm still going to try and do whatever I can to keep this a friendly place though, even if a lot of you who are suddenly appearing over the past few days are completely undermining everything I've been trying to do over the past few months to keep this a civil place of friendly discussion and forward thinking.

Honestly, if we sit around here fighting about unclaimed stakes forever what kind of change are we making in the world? We should be sitting here talking about new and interesting ways that we can use NEM and its blockchain technology to help the other billions of people in the world live a better life, instead of trying to make sure sockpuppet1234 gets his or her unclaimed stake. Try to open your eyes and look at the bigger picture, because fighting for one random person who happened to invest a miniscule amount into NEM on BTT months ago and who obviously does not care about anything related to this movement get his or her 1 million NEM is extremely short-sighted and is not helping ANYONE.

DON'T FALL INTO A TRAP
DON'T FEED TROLLS!

Please note if anyone is intelligent enough there are trolls around to bring down the price of NEM so that these trolls can pick up  NEM Stakes for a song. The trolls and whales are the same people. Things cannot happen coincidentally. Just look at the buy and sell walls and you will soon conclude there is some monkey business going on.

Please be smart.

I for one appreciate your efforts and completely share your sentiment.

Thanks for the help, Amy Smiley

Some people just like to create problems where none exists.

Two points I would everyone to be clear with:

1. NEM is not the anti-NXT. We are writing code from scratch and have very different technology and design philosophy. There is no reason for both not to exist. The users should decide which project better suits their sensibilities.

2. I like the idea of having people voting on many decisions, but it is too hard to coordinate this in a way that can't be spammed until we get our blockchain up. After launch we hope to set up a voting system based on the NEM blockchain where things are decided on.

We are making a lot of progress on improving the beta and by launch we hope that the user experience will be a lot better.

This thread has made me sad to see the past few days which is why I have not posted. I think it is just an inevitable part of the redemption process that all this fighting will occur. Once this is behind us everyone will forget about it and we can move on and start to really try and do what NEM has set out to do.

Everyone gets distressed sometimes, however, the trolls come and go.  NEM has made a ton of progress. No need to be disappointed.  You are a great member of this community Amy.

Thanks for the support everyone! If there are enough of us here working to actually make the world (and these forums) a better place, I think we can really make a difference. There are always going to be trolls, but they do not have to set the tone for our movement. Smiley
