It depends. I think it is very good for them and for investors as well if they can raise a lot fund. In my view, Ethereum has the Bitcoin challenger status while NEM has NXT challenger status. 2015 would be very interesting as a lot of new projects going to fruition. BUT everyone should hope that Bitcoin stays strong, get bigger or at least stay at this level and not deflate  to sub 300 level.

How is Ethereum a challenger to Bitcoin?  BTSX is Bitcoin's biggest challenger, followed by NEM.  NXT will implode.  When NEM went on NXT's asset change every NXT holder thought they were sh**ing bricks of gold but now the price is right back to where it has been for ages.

i didn't know this BTSX. Need to find some info!

Etherium will take over Litecoin as #2 on the launch day. No one who is invested is going to sell lower than IPO price (that would be shooting yourself in the face). Given the amount that is invested, I see it easily take over #2 spot. What happens in one or two years after that, no one knows.

maybe some of you know freeNAS: http://www.freenas.org
have this type of nas server running on my own for years know and today i thought i could be a good solution to put NIS service on that NAS machines. NIS plugin runs stable 24/7 in the backround of your home/buisness fileserver, stabilizing the NEM network.

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Plugins

the marketing effect would be amazing to put NIS into the most widespreaded, non-commercial NAS server solution.

what do you think?

Hi Guys! Just for info - ethereum begins ether sale(https://www.ethereum.org/)  ...it's really not bad  Shocked just 2000 ethers for 1 btc Cheesy
Cheers

why do you think is a good price?

It depends. I think it is very good for them and for investors as well if they can raise a lot fund. of course matter of good price was with sarcasm Grin @ARGpentem- what kind of projects( a lot of) are going to fruition on 2015 except of ethereum?

Some coming at the end of the year too like NEM, Bitshare, Crypti, Maidsafe etc. These are the big ones, there are a lot of other smaller ones and that I count non -clone projects only.

Add Nodes, Exo too.
I would add eMunie into this list as well. The very interesting thing about it is its economic model and price stabilizing mechanism.

One thing is pretty clear. They have plenty of money to hire high paid developers and marketing money to team up with big companies and and banks. If they don't screw up the launch  later in the winter, I think they have pretty good chance to challenge BTC for #1 spot.

They already had $1 million before coindesk article and a thread on BTT.  Where's this money coming from?  Maidsafe IPO had laundered MtGox Bitcoins and Maidsafe corporation and angel investors buying their own coin and that went to $8 million.  What happened to Maidsafe?  Well the volume afterwards became a joke because 99% of it was all internal buying.

Ethereum has the Goldmansach's connection and they presumably have angel investors with deep pockets.  They're making it look like Ethereum actually has demand and a following but we know the opposite to be true - Ethereum forum is essentially dead, almost nobody talks about it on Bitcointalk (and those who did hate it), so Ethereum in a nutshell is another ponzi scheme ran by a few wealthy investors and they're going the copywrighting route like Mastercoin and Maxcoin (spamming lame articles and videos all over the place).

There ain't no Revolution like a NEMolution.  The only solution is Bitcoin's dissolution! NEM!

Stop posting frud about other projects and coins, ahem "no envy movement"  troll.  There are plenty of people investing. It's the most hyped gen 2.0 project for months and there is no cap.  They did plenty of marketing, attended dozens of conferences, and there is no reason why there shouldn't be a large investment when there is no cap

Exactly. And in truth, most people see this. The whole "buzz" about ethereum is artificially created.

@patmast3r - Your point is absolutely taken, I'm just trying to constantly remind everyone how low the bar really is, so where possible let's make strategic decisions. In this case I think people just wanted a solid justification for the "latest and greatest" tendency concern, which has now been given. That certainly wasn't a jab at the devs, whom I respect. Just don't forget how mind bendingly inefficient the average person is on a piece of technology. Statements like "this will someday replace fiat" require the minimum amount of barriers. As you said, that time frame is much larger than the small window of struggle we are seeing here, so acknowledged.

You voice speaks for mine too. Most people havn't the patience to understand what most of us here consider extremely basic PC skills. However, in due time, this will change.

Nonetheless, the more accessible we can make NEM the better. But i also think it is important to give nem more advanced features for those who choose that option - options of course, are massively important.

Can't boot a local NEM node. If I create a node name with just numbers it gives me "ERROR 306", else I always get "ERROR 601: Unknown error". I used a one-click-installation file from forum.nemcoin.com.

601 means the node has already been booted. So go ahead and put your nem address in your signature and request some nem Smiley

Some observations of the new logo candidate.

It is too similar to the Quark logo.

http://www.qrk.cc/quarkbrand/

It also resembles the triskelion logo of Ripple.

https://dev.ripple.com/img/ripple-triskelion.png

tris·kel·i·on [trih-skel-ee-on] noun, a symbolic figure consisting of three legs, arms, or branches radiating from a common center.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Triskelion

The new logo explanation says: "Decentralization of NEM is represented by 3 lines coming from the centre."

By using the word centre, it implies centralized. Ideally a logo that represents decentralization will not have a center.

The 3 radial lines represents the centralized characteristics of a star network (hub-and-spoke).

Another sentence in the new logo explanation says: "Imagine this is a fan, it can spin...".

A spinning fan is another circular reference and demonstrates this centralized nature.

The new logo is "flat" compared to the 3d appearance of the cube, especially at the size of a 16x16 pixel icon.

The cube represents the decentralized and distributed characteristics of a mesh network (peer-to-peer).

I will not re-quote my previous post, but if you are curious why I believe the cube is better at representing NEM, read this:

Reasons for Selecting the Cube as the Symbol of NEM.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.msg7729767#msg7729767

Loi does very good work and his new design is big improvement over the tomoe, but the cube better represents NEM.

My vote will be for Loi's cube design.
