the sooner NEM can be untied to NXT, the better..

what is happening with NXT right now is another good lesson to learn from.. well first of all the lesson is don't get hacked if you're an exchange and secondly, don't perform a rollback or hardfork for an exchange. it would just blemish the reputation of your coin, ala the great Vericoin bailout of '14.

This wasn't a fault of the coin though. It was the exchange.

This is why it's important nem gets on a number of equally popular exchanges on release. One exchange monopolizing the volumes can go belly up if they make even a simple mistake.
it is possible to set up and run our own multigateway for nxt WE so that people can trade with out worry of a central point of failure. All we need is for nem to support multisig and some to set up the servers then just 3 highly trusted people from nem to host the servers. I think after recent events it would be a very good idea to give people this option straight of the bat.

Do you not have to worry about those servers getting hacked then though and someone siphoning off trades midstream? (disclaimer - I know noting)

3 people will be in control of a server each.. as long as you trust that the 3 members will not collude to steal the funds with in the servers then your coins are safe.. as far as i know, all three servers would need to be hacked simultaneously in order for someone to steal the coins.. its not entirely decentralized, but it is magnitudes safer than traditional exchanges... preferably you get people with a vested interest in the said currency/platform to be in control of the servers.

for example in nxt, its going to be james, the owner of nxthaus (new nxt exchange in the making) and cant remember  who else.. the reason these were chosen as the right people is because they all have a huge vested interested in not stealing the coins.. james has coded the damn thing and has a reputation to protect and is also heavily invested in nxt and multigateway assets and therefore has to protect the interests of the buyers of MGW asset.

the owner of nxthaus would never mess with servers as he has a vested interest in being seen as trustworthy, cos if hes not, no one will use his new exchange. the same applies for the other guy ie. high vested interest or is very trustworthy already.

you only have to trust that 2 of the 3 wont collude.. one malicious server maintainer cannot steal the funds alone.. he may be able to fek up multigateway so it stops working but funds cannot be stolen or accounts miscalculated. so even if one entity isnt trust worthy your coins are still safe..

if centralised exchanges used multigateway for their back end stuff, the odds of these hacks stealing millions would not be a concern any longer..

I think the NEM approach is different in this. It works on a "decentralized" but centralized trust. Decentralized means the coins are not stored in one place, i.e., like those 50 million coins that happened to Bter. They remain in the wallets of the users.

Centralized because if a user wants to sell, user will have to go through an exchange. And the exchange is literally an exchange, i.e., it only does matching of trades. It does not store or keep values.

Hence, hacking the exchange only disrupts trades but coins stolen, will be difficult. But this won't happen so soon if the epic projects are not supported.

So, please support our epic projects to make this happen. Visit http://www.ournem.com/crowdsale

Out of 4000 NEM stakes only 1000 are available to be requested and distributed on the Nxt AE until official launch. Out of this, 649 have already been sent out and 351 are still available. So 649 stakes = 16.225% distributed stakes.

Wow, that can really crush the price when more stakes are distributed.

I might disagree. Yet we have seen only that guys who wanted to dump, dump their coins. More interesting would be that how strongly majority of holders agree to hold and their action more likely seems to mean 2000-500$ aint enough.

I didn't bother getting a token because I'm holding.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm never selling my NEM for anything unless one day NEM turns out to be fundamentally flawed and another coin rises up to replace it. NEM is going to be my primary cryptocurrency and I will use it as such for as long as it remains active and developed. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here thinking the same thing either.

Such dedication. Much support Smiley

Hello
I have 2 nem stake on AE
What to do to get nem coins?

Hello.

You need to wait until the coin gets released
and at that point you will need send back the NEMSATKEs to the
issuer account with your nem address and once done that you will
receive NEM coins in exchange.
All the info regarding this will be published in this thread and on nemforum
so just be sure to check this thread once in a while.

If you get bored waiting you could do the following:
1) promote NEM to friends family or in other social networks
- write articles,
- translated articles ,
- do fliers design
2) get engaged to build the NEM ecosystem by helping
- translate software
- do web design
- do software development
- move your current business, if you have any, to use NEM as a currency

and lot of more...
All this will help to increase the value of your stakes Wink

+1000 That's it!

You can have more than 2. I just asked that question on the previous page. You can have 2 stakes max per NXT account, so if you want to buy more you just need another NXT account

Sounds good to me. Makes sense that a coin with a unique IPO also has more secure and safer means of exchanging it for FIAT/other currencies. By breaking the mold that little bit more, it gives NEM a potentially far bigger advantage over that of the more common coins. Not only do people need to learn from NXT, but also what happend with Bitcoin regarding MTGox.

the days are counting for centralised exchanges because of multigateway +instantDEX and we shouldnt fear it. we should embrace it. we should bring attention to it. we should further the ideals of decentralisation even if that means we promote a competitors platform to do so, as in the end, it will benefit us more than not doing so. it will benefit the entire crypto community. the bad press that crypto gets because of hacked exchanges and stolen funds is astonishing.. on a regular basis central points of failure, fail. this means something has to change. if we can contribute to the change that is needed in anyway shape or form, i think it is in the spirit of this New Economy Movement to do so and we would be letting ourselves down if we do not for any reason.

Exactly, there is no way any "coin" can eventually be a direct competitor with Bitcoin unless some of the alternative options join together.

.....

Yup, i agree.

Centralization i always thought was against the principles of cryptocurrency. The sole reason they existed was to break free from the FIAT monetary system we've been exploited under for so long, centralization being the biggest factor in it's corruption, with the centralized powers (banks) doing their best to manipulate a free market, often at the dire expense of the little man.

Ironically, mining just blatantly showed that Bitcoin was simply a double whammy for centralization - not only could Bitcoins themselves be horded and wealth centralized (and thus, the exchange price -- whales) but so could mining power. Coincide this with potential 51% attacks and Bitcoin/PoW model doesn't seem so enticing - but it laid the foundation for other potentially greater things.

Right now, i think even if a coin improves upon Bitcoin/PoW, the next hurdle is, as you said, the exchanges. It may be in an exchanges interests to "accidentally" let a hacker "steal" a large sum of a fresh coin, potentially putting the coin in a position it may never recover - especially should any exchange have a preference to particular coins. No doubt, i'm sure many do. And if they don't, they just havn't been bribed enough.

Another problem i believe Cryptocurrency has is not only centralization, but also manipulation too - anyone with even a little bit of experience knows that manipulation is the aim of the game for exchange prices (Just look at Doge). It's why whales horde, it's why whales dump - it's their plaything to manipulate and get rich quick from till they get bored. Something i've no doubt is the reason behind bitcoins relatively steady value. Ironic really something that often boasted about breaking free of the corruption in FIAT is in many ways not much different.

With NEM's IPO, i think it's the only currency thus far to stand the best chance of preventing all of this, we just need to deal with the exchange problem. Manipulation is inevitable as it's very much human greed, but NEM goes a much further way of addressing it then any other coin out there.

Anyone else notice that while all the scrypt coins are plummeting, the second gen cryptos are holding up nicely!

The future will be coins like NEM, NXT, NODE, CRYPTI, coins that have next gen features.

If you are still holding coins that use the QT wallet (other than Bitcoin), now is the time to get out of them and into 2.0 cryptos!

Hi all NEMsters Grin. The HINDI translation is done  Grin. I have left critical options like "SEND NEM", "REMOVE WALLET", "SETTINGS", etc.. as they were because I think they are very important and should not be played with.
Can't wait to see my work implemented in the NCC. It'll be an honour Cool
