I just got my 2 S3+, they are actually worse than my batch 6 S3
I have overclocked my first S3 to 243,75 MHZ and 250 MHZ,
I can't get the S3+ working above the standard 225 MHZ

they promised th S3+ is better as it should normally be, but I see this is worse !
What settings did you try?

I tried all settings, 237, the chips get from ooooo to oxoox, they get fried lol
The X's should go away when you reboot. Try turning off power for a few seconds instead of rebooting in the menu of the S3. I have had tons of S1's and S3's and never had one where the chips were fried. Reboot.

Just saw that there is a S3-B10 (no price) at Bitmain

Cheers

Yea B9 is sold out for the S3+.

Im wouldn't be surprised if they push the delivery out a ways to drive sales to the new S4.

Were setting up our B8 units right now, working great!

Do they have replacement units? One of my new S3+, that is less then 24 hours old, started smoking today. Does anyone know how Bitmain is on replacement units? I emailed them, but haven't heard back yet.

Sure it isn't just new electronics smell, possibly flux or flux cleaner burning off heating components?  My first S3 did give that and runs well.  My second didn't and doesn't.  Neither of my two new S3+'s gave off that smell but run well.  So, is it actual smoke or a hot electronics smell?  How are the unit's stats?

Need inputs & advice please,

How much watts when it comes to power supply that can power 1 Antminer S3 and how much Amp in 12v rail does it need?

I have 5 antminer S3 and planning to buys separate power supply for each.

Thanks & Regards,

It needs about 30 amps on 12V but I don't think it's a good idea to have a separate power supply for each. You will end up with 5 power supplies (450-500W each) and a mess of cables, while you could get one 800-850W and one 1200-1300W PSU and put 2 and 3 miners on them respectively.

So 1200 watts is good for 3 antminers S3.

Actually my problem is here in Saudi they don't have much supplier when it comes to PC and all they hay is 400w to 500w PSU, but they have a 1300 watts platinum but price is overkill.

Anyway I have not made any decisions yet, any advice on brand if ever I go separate power supply?

Thanks,

Ok, in that case get some good 500W ones, 80+ silver/gold if you can. Corsair is fairly good, not sure what else is there in that range.

Edit: technically 450W is sufficient if not overclocked.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try 450W since I'm not into OC'ing.

Most if not all sub-500W ATX PSUs only have one PCIe power connector.  If you intend to have a dedicated PSU for each S3, just get a Corsair CX500 (not the modular version CX500M) if that's available in Saudi.  It's a proven workhorse for the S3 and reasonably priced.

I can only assume that the chips are getting hot.  Did you at least try to re-torque the heat sink screws before firing them up to make sure they're safely snug and properly seated?

So I have my S3+'s up and running, but I'm trying to overclock them to 237.5MHz. But they get a lot of hardware errors (sometimes up to 5%), and sometimes the chips starts showing x's.
Is there anything to solve this? I guess the S3+ from B8 are installed with latest firmware?

Also, I don't really know what pool to choose, currently mining on Eligius/Discus Fish. any suggestions?

As the product info on Bitmain's own page says, not all S3s will got to 500, so no, not really any way to solve it.
As Blizzard would say, "Working as intended".

Bitmain now announce the S3+, which is a revised version of S3 running stably at 453GH/s (frequency=225 MHz), while consumes 355 Watt power at the wall. Most of miners will be able to run up to 500GH/s but not guaranteed.

Okay, but what about the chips that fail? I can't restart the miner like every hour or so?...

Getting an x on chips only when you clock it up is symptomatic with the issues that caused them to clock them down to 225 MHz.  If you have issues at 225 MHz, RMA with Bitmain.  If you have no issues at 225 MHz, there's nothing wrong.

Only worthwhile if you're lacking by 5%, it would seem...

I have not had good experience with their support/RMA folks.  It took me a month to get a single S3 hashing board replaced, and that's when I had it fail, put a deposit so they could ship it before they received my return, AND they didn't send me the blade with heatsinks.
