If someone has a little free time, it would be great to see some cliff notes of the video.  We can even add them on to the video page for quicker scanning.

Viacoin Update 28th August 2014

[Viacoin Key Features]
  • Launched 18th June 2014
  • Flexible data storage policy.
  • Data can be encoded in the blockchain but Bitcoin developers do not favor this.
  • Extra data in the Bitcoin blockchain is seen a superfluous.
  • Viacoin is able to adapt and change much more easily because it is built around clearinghouse.
  • Faster block times ~24seconds
  • Tree Chains technology
  • New scripting OP codes
  • Based on Bitcoins Latest Core

[Tree Chains]
  • Potentially solves Centralized mining problems
  • Scalability problems
  • ”Sidechains on steroids”
  • ”Viacoin is a movement away from centralization”

[ClearingHouse]
  • Based on CounterParty for Bitcoin
  • Viacoin was necessary because OP_RETURN was limited to 40 bytes
  • Launched 11th August 2014
  • Makes use of OP_RETURN 80 bytes
  • Encodes data in transactions
  • Website: clearinghouse.io

[Freedom By Blockchain]
  • ”We’re moving from Don’t be Evil to Can’t be Evil”
  • Decentralized Exchange
  • Stocks, Shares, Vouchers, Coins
  • Dividends
  • Decentralized betting and gambling
  • https://ClearWallet.co/

[Plans for ClearingHouse]
  • Identity system
  • Reputation management
  • Blockchain Notary - debut in next few weeks
  • Market place?

[Plans for Viacoin]
  • New scripting opcodes
  • Integrate ClearingHouse Viacoin directly
  • Build ClearingHouse UI features into the Qt client?

[New OP Codes - OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY (Launching soon)]
  • New opcode proposed by Peter Todd
  • Locks payment from being spent until a certain time
  • Arbitration periods
  • Escrow
  • Inheritance

[Community]
  • Growing community
  • Social Media

[Well received by the community]
  • 1gh mining pool
  • BitAngels
  • Masternode
  • ChompyZ

[Real world adoption]
  • pock.io 150 giftcards (Amazon etc)
  • Merchant processor - litepaid.com

  • Coding the block chain notary
  • viacoind utxo/address query directly
  • Contributing to upstream projects like Bitpay’s bit core
  • Contributing and collaborating with Counterparty

[Communication]
  • More regular updates and blog posts
  • Check forums & reddit r/viacoin
  • Check the activity at github http://github.com/viacoin
  • Subscribe to Twitter: @Viacoin, @ClearingHouseIO and @Clearwallet
  • Subscribe to the mailing list

[Getting Involved]
  • Forums

where is the roadmap?

You'll see on post #1872 that Btcdrak posts the following video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjWV_SibVbg&feature=youtu.be

Please take the time to watch it, as he discusses what's in store, or read the summary posted by CreationLayer on post #1885.

I'll be working with Btcdrak and CreationLayer to bring the community more regular weekly updates on progress and plans as we move forward.

In my opinion  it is clear that the information provided by BtcDrak is nothing short of  excellent and the written points by CreationLayer is a very accurate summary of Drak's video blog. Given the fact that Drak and his team must be under considerable pressure with more urgent issues therefore not being able to fully focus on a detailed written update could be seen as a minor issue at this stage

Although updates are and will soon become more essential given the choice I would MUCH prefer him spending his valuable time addressing core development and strategic issues than being clustered with minor update concerns.. Especially if this is directly drawing his time away from more pressing issues.

The 20 minute long update video that has been provided is clear, concise and efficient.  He has explained in basic terms, easy enough for even me to understand, why the project was necessary whilst providing a glimpse at its raw potential, informing us that their are big players circling and offering points that major game changing news will follow soon. There is not a hint of hard selling or BS just straight informative facts.

Clearly too much hype at this stage is certainly not necessary… However a working product, reiteration and ensuring that there is a clear understanding of the overall direction is what should be essential

Just because Xcoin or Ycoin devs believe it is necessary to release a street map of possible goals achievements ect, following the herd is not always the best thing (in this case breaking the mould of shite shor-term p&d coins should be) – this could be the game changer in next gen crypto  – lead the way not follow

Why waste more time with a “road map” right now when it is evident that the roads are currently being built but due to the extensity of construction it is not always going to be known when they will be finished.  At this stage we should be thinking a month/s or so ahead not just a week or two…
We should be thinking along the same lines of Masternode and others on how best to back this beast up!  What can be done to assist and how the word can be spread at all levels (fact not fiction) – although coin price is important at this stage focus should be on the fundamentals as I’m more than confident the returns will flow as and when.

Thanks

Smiley I like the Clearwallet and future plans. The multisig Will and Testament with a timelock is amazing. I think treechains will allow so many new things. Let the other coins go on about anon, money transfer, gambling etc etc. The future is not so much about that now. It's about platforms that can deliver services. I find NXT, Ripple and Mastercoin to be counter-intuitive. Counterparty seems so much better. Etherium and Maidsafe coming soon. The race is on. Competition and collaboration. Crypto takes no prisoners. Exciting times. I think VIA will be among the winners.  Grin

and yes devs, please dev and leave the thread updates to some well informed, patient and diplomatic worldwide delegates who can give 24/7 cover. Fudders and foul mouths will come. Leave them to delegated helpers and ignore buttons! You have more important things to do and enjoy. Go VIA.  Grin
