Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

We dont need mass adoption to make VIA price double or even triple...look at Counterparty pump due to Overstock announcement.
You can throw out developments constantly, but Viacoin's price wont budge. The hype phase has passed. Whales who actually took advantage of the hype have already taken profits and gone. Im not holding btcdrak to anything as something like this is completely out of his hands. But on a side note, I do want to praise his hard work and dedication as well as the rest of the Viacoin dev team.

The market is always right... and the market does not like VIA right now...
Because the market does not care about esoterics like tree chains or opcodes.

Every thread for every "quality" coin that's gone into a death spiral has looked like this one...
"We got great devs and a great community, nothing to worry about".... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Ya man, except you are competing with at least 50 quality coins and platforms...
See VTC and MYR charts for deja vu, baby...

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/pair/vtc/btc/bittrex/6-months

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/pair/myr/btc/bittrex/6-months

What's your point? What VTC or MYR have common with VIA? Do your homework before posting idiotic statements.

Viacoin is 3 months old today!

wow. viacoin is 3-month old, devs delivering again and again, yet price goes down... and a moola guy educating the community with "non-fad" fad...
and i must say that have a real Déjà vu...
like the matrix. i've seen this before...

It was the same weird situation of development on one side, and fad+price going down on the other side, and it was called Darkcoin.
\
Darkcoin was launched in late January or early February. Dev  delivered progress like clockwork, but price - well, depressed is an understatement.
coins got stolen on c-cex, dumped on poloniex, then a fork... you name it.
Until one day, several months forward, about April, it started to move up, and rise, and rise... and then skyrocket.
From a negligible alt, people started seeing it as a contender to Litecoin.

I've been there before. It looks the same. Feels the same.
my 2cents - short-term price does not reflect progress. It reflects impatience.
Stick to your guns...

I was thinking along the same lines. With darkcoin, you could have been holding it for months wondering why (the dev was solid and idea was good). Then one day it was like the crypto world woke up and realized they wanted anonymous transactions and hello, you had a 10 bagger on your hands. I think the tide will surge in favor of viacoin at some point. Not sure what the catalyst will be, but again we have a great idea and a solid developer. Glad I got in on this one early.

It would be great to see a vid of the presentation given at inside bitcoin, would be nice to get an overview of tree chain tech and the solutions that it may offer, nice timing too with the suggestion of limitless block sizes by mr andreson doing the rounds Smiley

Explaining something in a visual way makes a greater mass impression imo and atm the only real info on the subject not in writing is the letstalkbitcoin pod cast.

Peter had a decent one done about off chain transactions, get their number off him Wink

I couldn't agree more!  A video of Peter Todd's presentation would be excellent for teaching and marketing Smiley

Is there any way you could make this happen, drak?

you guys, i mean bagholders, need to go spend time evangelizing and understanding the core use cases and explaining those to very focused targets.

the dev's can work their asses off but if you want to pump up the price you need to find commercial champions - whether that is a bar offering to sell beers for viacoin, an online retailer using to to build an exchange or some gaming company uses it to make cryptogrpahically secure gambling apps and machines.... or whatever it is that fits the via/xch core use cases (most unfair advantage)

do this and you will have mad bread to break

I think a good promotion way for viacoin, xch proof-of-publication is to write a whitepaper, xch proof-of-publication is a new concept.

PPL like whitepaper pump, XST was pumped 20X when it released a whitepaper

Not bagholding here, I only just bought this thing Smiley

How many bars and restaurants accept this coin makes no difference to me, all I care about is the technology.

The attitudes expresses by the dev team to maintain a consistent protocol that users can build applications on top of with out the fear of it becoming broken one day is a great thing in my opinion and businesses (like overstock in the future) will surely favour it if they have any sense.

The fact that the blockchain supports capabilities that bitcoin does not means that applications can be developed for Via which cannot for Btc, coupled with a quicker (but still not instant) confirmation time makes me want to lend support to Via more than Btc.

Lets be honest though 'tree chains' are the potential golden egg brewing inside of this goose and if they become a reality and we can all mine at different levels in the tree or have self contained wallets on our smartphones rather than having to interface with an intermediary like blockchain.info, this would be a real game changer and as a libertarian it's a democratic change I would like to see happen.

Yes I own some coins and so you should be sceptical when I start blurting things like this all over the forum walls, I have a vested interest so I am bias by definition but I also own some bitcoin and so far I have considered turning Btc into Via but not visa versa Smiley

Right, I think when tree chain deploys, viacoin will be top 10 Cheesy

Now my priority is to make more fiat/btc to buy viacoin, then waiting for viacoin skyrocket patiently.

On the other side, someone is buying all this... It's pretty interesting.

By the way, for those of you who don't know, Peter is talked about Treechains today at Inside Bitcoins, Tel Aviv: http://bitcointlv.com/en/Agenda/Day-2-October-20
I am not sure if these are recorded.

Treechains
scalability problem of conventional linear blockchains by replacing them with a binary prefix tree of blocks. This talk will discuss the basic concept of the idea, as well as near term applications in the form of improving the scalability and security of Bitmessage, as well as future financial applications, such as decentralized exchange and even value-transfer applications similar to Bitcoin itself.

HOW is tree chain going? Any ETA about release?

Remember, treechains is an experimental concept and project and needs a lot of research and development. The first working concept will be applied to Bitmessage and Peter said in his last blog post there might be some code to show this month, but be very clear, treechains being applied to the satoshi client is a long term project there are things like finding ways to do SPV that also need to be solved. Using the technology on Bitmessage is trivial by comparison because the technical requirements of BM are much less than a consensus based proof-of-publication system.

Treechains has the potential to revolutionize everything. The idea is frankly epic, but it needs to be done right - that will involve a lot of testing and peer review. The devils are in the details so to speak Smiley
