anyone built an outdoor mining cabinet? I want to put some S1 or S3 units outdoors for the winter, but am afraid that wayward snow/slush/debris on my balcony (its an apartment) might get sucked in or otherwise contact the equipment.

The solution in my mind is a 4-walled box (bottom,top,sides) with 1-2 fabric filters over the inlet/exhaust sides of the box (mostly the inlet). Main concerns are the inlet fabric icing over (if heat removal is too effective) or being the target of pigeon intrusion (yeah these guys are a messy problem - and a huge source of dust and debris on the balcony)

I feel like that sort of filter may be insufficient for the 1000-1200cfm airflow im expecting (if running 6-8 antminers), and may not solve my concerns over any moisture freezing up on the intake if temperatures there hover around zero (assuming its -5C outside but some heat from the mining keeps the area of the intake close to 0C)

That is one.  There is an older one that I cannot find now that was a sealed cube with inlet and outlet vents in like 2ft of snow working perfectly.

Nice mining rig. Simple yet effective. Not just need to turn that laptop into a raspberry pi and ur good to go.

The PSU is a Dell 2100Watt and its quite loud but rock solid, the cables and unit doesn’t even get hot, I made all the cables using 16awg and 14awg, in the end I soldered the cables onto the rear of the PSU because the terminals are tapered not squared, also this will make more reliable connection.

The router is a Cisco 2811 which is modular, allowing me to add more interfaces when required, this is instead of the crappy TalkTalk broadband router from the ISP. This setup is running 30 miles away from my house in my dad’s Pub loft, and I have made an IPSEC VPN tunnel from my home using a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. This allows me to access all the devices remotely.

The reuse of foam packaging is deaden the vibrations from the dell PSU and Cisco router.

The router does get warm and was concered about warming the ants

All miners are overclocked at 250 with a total hash rate of 1950-2000GH

I don't intend to make a copy of that outdoor setup, as it's likely inadequate for my use, largely due to the high risk of pidgin intrusion. I don't doubt that a warm enclosed area would become infested with sky rats on my balcony, and as such a more per meant design is preferred.

Imo, might buy some plywood and furnace filters to build something. The furnace filters leave lots of room for airflow, and are fairly thick so icing over is unlikely.

I have my console for accessing my miner within 1m. Sometimes it is convenient to cluster your equipment.

That said, I should be getting that miner working, rather than posting here

PS: I eventually want to use an RS-232 cable to do initial setup on a second router: with tor and IPv6 support.
