I just realized something.. it is impossible to make a trustless pure Proof of Stake cryptocurrency.

Let's face it, you have to get the genesis block from someone and you have to trust that person to provide you with the correct genesis block.

If they provide you with a different genesis block then it's a different coin. It is trustless because every block after the genesis block is cryptographically verified.

I'd like to mine with a Raspberry Pi. So I'd like to know if it just possible. If you don't know how to reply to my question, maybe you can help me by replying to those ones : is it possible to mine on Linux with plots plotted on Windows and is the Pi's CPU as powerful as needed ?

You need SATA2/3 or USB 3.0 for mining BURST.  USB 2.0 its too slow for reading(mine) the plots! Check another ARM board with USB 3.0 or SATA port, the cheapest i think is Banana Pi with one SATA. I recommend for mining in linux use their filesystem (ext3 or ext4) not NTFS (Windows) because gnu/linux programs dont like the NTFS system, it will be more slow and its probable to corrupt the plots or have any strange errors...

You can always use a LIVE CD like Ubuntu 14.04, download the plotter, and plot to external devices formatted in EXT4, then connect it to the ARM board Smiley

the pi2 may have better cpu performance than the banana pi which i estimated to be able to mine with 8tb within blocktime (tested with 4tb on a sata port multiplier some time ago).

based on usb benchmarks i assume the pi2 should be able to read at 20-25 mb/s on usb2 (http://www.mikronauts.com/raspberry-pi/raspberry-pi-2-usb-hard-drive-and-adapter-tests/).

i am not sure if concurrent traffic on different disks decreases the overall performance dramatically.
if you can read at speeds of 10 mb/s from 2 disks (which is a really low estimate) you should be able to mine with at least 8tb within blocktime.

if you plan a small farm try some usb-c hubs as power supply for the pis (makes the wiring simpler).

the tricky part for windows people is the plotting process because windows cannot write xfs or other linux filesystems out of the box.
workarounds would be virtual machines with direct disk access and provide windows the device as network share.
this is a simple solution but requires some basic linux knowledge.

if you have your disks plotted and a system running its almost one of the most scalable and cheapest solutions.

The Banana Pi looks interesting. But if I go to internal HDD, I need to have a desktop. What is the component recommended (how much GB of RAM, how much thread on the CPU, CPU model) ?
About the disks does this one (http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00144841.html) is good ?

So what if you call it a different coin? It's important for new clients to be able to trustlessly know they are on the correct blockchain. How can they do that in a Pure POS system?  I guess it's possible in a peercoin like system.

Though even there it's a much cheaper 51% attack on the POW pay of the system, only to end up with the same issue.  I guess that's why Ethereum is including a small POW for every transaction.. Though that doesn't really fix this specific issue either..

you can do it if the transaction itself contains everything required to verify it is valid.
in other words this means there is no need for a blockchain recording everything from a genesis block over checkpoints onwards since the receiver can verify the transaction on its own.
if you would like to have a blockchain in such a design for storing non transaction related information you can add one.
maybe for something like aliases, storage, ATs or a message system.
the main difference to current coins would be that you dont have any history of other peoples transactions except for those you received coins with.

That would definitely help, you couldn't use someone else's transactions in your coin that had a new genesis block that have you lots of money but it still doesn't solve the problem of trustees knowing you have the correct genesis block and it isn't a blockchain full of garbage data.

[miner]

new version Burst-miner v1.150509
https://github.com/Blagodarenko/miner-burst/releases/download/1.150509/miner-burst-1.150509.zip

- solved memory usage issue
- parameter "UseCleanMem" did not used
- key "q" - quit/exit
- key "m" - memory cleaner
- new lib pdcurses.dll

limits:
Nonces, stagger and CacheSize must be a multiple of HDD's sector size / 64 ( 4096 by default / 64 = 64 ).
Miner's window not resizing and not scrolling.

https://github.com/Blagodarenko/miner-burst

Tiny bug:

If you use the proxy feature, the host reports the total GB's incorrect if you have more than one satelite.
It is just a cosmetic issue though, because deadlines are accepted from every satelite.

I have a bunch of external hard drives and a bunch of laptops but most of them are USB 2.0. Only a few are USB 3.0 and only my newest laptop supports USB 3.0. Are USB 2.0 external hard drives not fast enough for mining BURST?

If i buy some hdd now, my ROI may never happen
For example 3 x 4TB drives mining solo 24/7 for 60 months from now on (cost and electricity only for drives)
Total BURST = 1253000

Calculated for Burst price = 0,00000105 and BTC = 230$

And for Burst price = 0,00000210

Code:
For Price = 0,00000105

If i buy some hdd now, my ROI may never happen
For example 3 x 4TB drives mining solo 24/7 FOR 60 MONTHs from now on (cost and electricity only for drives)

Calculated for Burst price = 0,00000105 and BTC = 230$

Code:
|Month|Block |Per Day|Per Month| $ Per|ROI for   |ROI with 0,6$ per month
|     |Reward|       |         | Month|11TB(450$)|HDD Electricity Only(12 watt)

You didn't take the resale value (which is even more significant if you buy the hard drives used) and the added value of using the hard drives for storage into account. I would think that most people who mine BURST are using spare hard drives that aren't being used for storage. At least, that's what I intend to do anyway.

For less than 10 drives too much time wasted for reading forum/plotting/replotting and installing windows 8(under win7 is total mess with memory). Anyway on working machine may be lags.

If you talking about > 50 HDDs, that would be another story.

And after 4 years these hdds will be obsolete.

And anyway on working machine may be lags.

If you talking about 50 HDDs, that would be another story.

And after 4 years this hdds will be obsolete.

How do your numbers compare to any other crypto out there?

At least with BURST can can mine, provide a service to the network, sit on the coins for a future investment and not be raped by the electric bill.  I'm pretty sure any other POW coin out there is going to raise your electric bill significantly and have an even worse ROI.

In the early days of Bitcoin mining did people do it to make a quick buck?  BURST is going places, either buy or mine it all depends on what your in it for.

Good-Luck

Oh Elmit - beside your pool charging 33%, you're now 8 blocks off of reality - you may want to kick your wallet so you can continue to steal from your miners and bots.

That's because Headach does not know how a pool works. Therefore he imagines the missing parts.
I am happy with my pool and not a single BURST has been stolen. If you can read the blockchain you CAN verify it, but if you cannot then you are just telling stories.

And it does not matter how many accounts you open to attack me here, ... it is still the same, Headache cannot read the blockchain!

If i buy some hdd now, my ROI may never happen
For example 3 x 4TB drives mining solo 24/7 FOR 60 MONTHs from now on (cost and electricity only for drives)

Calculated for Burst price = 0,00000105 and BTC = 230$

I cannot see how the RoI changes with more than 50 HDDs. If the price does not go up, then this coin is also history. It is a pity, because it has AT.

[miner]

new version Burst-miner v1.150509
https://github.com/Blagodarenko/miner-burst/releases/download/1.150509/miner-burst-1.150509.zip

- solved memory usage issue
- parameter "UseCleanMem" did not used
- key "q" - quit/exit
- key "m" - memory cleaner
- new lib pdcurses.dll

limits:
Nonces, stagger and CacheSize must be a multiple of HDD's sector size / 64 ( 4096 by default / 64 = 64 ).
Miner's window not resizing and not scrolling.

Tiny bug:

If you use the proxy feature, the host reports the total GB's incorrect if you have more than one satelite.
It is just a cosmetic issue though, because deadlines are accepted from every satelite.

Hi.

I have Blago miner v1.150509 in proxy mode enabled and solo-mode mining with my own wallet running , I' m in network with fore rigs ?
#1 6501 gb this is with proxy enabled and solo-mining
#2 3703 gb pool mode
#3 3703 gb pool mode
#4 5586 gb pool mode

*** chance to find a block : 0.0847 (12087 gb) .

I suppose that this calculate must be 19493 gb . Because I started #1 and # 4 and #2 and #3 if I change the order It change the calculation but always only sum of two rigs .

Of course #1 I started first and I think always is calculating rig #1+ next started and the other two rig is not get in calculation.

all rigs get deadline, in the first miner with proxy enabled I can see all confirmation and IP of all other three rigs.

Any idea ?
how many rigs blago miner can handle in solo mode and proxy ?

The question is also in pool mode and proxy enabled how can I know how many nonce is submitting to pool .

It can handle more than two rigs or not ? .

It is all right my power hash is 19493 gb or 12087 ?

I don't know what to understand.

all connected rigs

proxy redirect deadlines from satellites to the pool (except deadlines, which > last sent deadline)

yes, a bug in the calculation of the total size of rigs
