I tend to find Risto's targets shaded just a bit pessimistic, but my ears always perk up when I see his name because he has snapped  me out of a daze more than once. I want to catch what Risto is thinking, but definitely don't throw your wad off a cliff based on any one person's guess. If you do it's your own fault unfortunately.

Guys, off-topic here but I'm finally getting around to actually putting 5 XMR on the very cool physical Monero coin that Smoothie gave out awhile back.

Instructions say to "convert hexadecimal spend_key to base64" to print on paper and then embed on-coin, under the hologram... but first off, where do I find a particular Monero address hex "spend_key", and secondly: what software or website is recommended to convert to base64 (and TEST conversion back too)?

I've googled around a bit but didn't find what's needed: I'm surely missing something simple 'cuz other people would've asked about this earlier LOL

I think that through some of Monero's more difficult times Risto, Aminorex and others have been a steadying force.  I know that when there were some pretty intensive times of weak hands dumping, they were there to catch those coins and put them away for the long run. This has helped all of us, as Monero could have been dumped into oblivion at times but, with their help the prices and thus the market cap stayed high enough to keep attracting new investors.  I will always appreciate their participation and will consider their advice as something to strongly consider before making my decision. Nobody is perfect, especially at predicting any market with any amount of certainty. I will tell you that I've learned that they are better at this than I am and that's why I generally don't make predictions, I don't want anybody to believe that I am the cause for their loss.

But I will say that Risto has earned the right to miss a call once in a while without being hit over the head with it! I for one, welcome his return and his input!

Smoothie had the example "Base64" text to print in the circle on paper, to cut out and insert under the hologram sticker, like this...

I really want to give credit to Monero for holding it's value during this Bitcoin rise. $8.50 at the moment.
Looking at the USD charts, it has been pegged linearly since the reversal of the DNM selloff. The BTC rise isn't shaking off XMR as it usually does to alts.

Anyone have a guess as to why?

Honestly, I took a pre-created sample private spend key and modified it (just because). So I wouldn't know the address or view key.

This is good that you are playing around with it and testing it. As I've indicated in the instructions you should create/generate your own keys to test with prior to sending any amounts to the address.

Honestly, I took a pre-created sample private spend key and modified it (just because). So I wouldn't know the address or view key.

This is good that you are playing around with it and testing it. As I've indicated in the instructions you should create/generate your own keys to test with prior to sending any amounts to the address.

I'm clearly not too "up" on unix command-line stuff here (but I do know my way around good ol' basic DOS on Windows, not "afraid" of CLI just don't have much experience yet, LOL)

P.S. {Edit} For what it's worth... using the http://kjur.github.io/jsjws/tool_b64udec.html website again did correctly return "01234567890abcdef11111" from input MDEyMzQ1Njc4OTBhYmNkZWYxMTExMQ== as Base64 to UTF-8... SO I suppose the lesson here is to always try more than one method to get what you need if results don't jibe first time thru. 

May be a little panic in case of trying to decode a cryptic string from one of smoothie's coins, on a very valuable Monero address, in the future -- but hopefully having all these "instructions" posted here on the forum and archived for future posterity will help someone out... LOL

Looks like your base64 command does not have a -d option for decoding, or ignores it, or it's got a different function, which is not apparent here.

Try: man base64
Or: base64 --help

Then work out what's the way to decode with this particular program.
