I'm REALLY new to this world..  Just got my hands on a Antminer S2,  and the person I got it from said this was the best pool to be with,  so here I am...  Just wondering why the site is showing two very different numbers for hashing speed:

Hash Rate:942.20/548.78GHs

Thanks,

The numbers are normal for an S2 (I run one). What you see is the detected hash rate for the machine, and the "scoring" hash rate, which will gradually increase over a couple of days as your 5nd is reached. Dunno how long the S2 has been running on Kano uninterrupted, but these are numbers I would be seeing if the S2 was offline for more than a minute or two, and had to "recapture" its scoring rate, and it had been maybe 24-48 hrs (at least in my instance). Hope that's helpful.

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

BTW, folks...the inventory's getting a bit low. Someone go to the Block Store, please...  Cool

We're setting the bars so high at Kano pool that I start to get antsy when I see no blocks after 50%.  Haha

Just "Mining" my own business.

I was looking this https://kano.is/index.php?k=blocks

What does 378389 block text "share diff was very close so we tested it, but it wasn't worthy" mean?

Isn't it perfectly clear whether block is valid or not?
It is perfectly clear to bitcoind, but since the calculation is using very large numbers, any conversion process can have inaccuracies,
ckpool checks any share that is within 99.9% of being a block (it used to be 99%)
They will show up as "Unworthy" if they weren't a block.
ckdb shows every attempt at submitting a block to the bitcoind

It causes orphans. So no.

(solo pays to only 2 addresses, so it's the same as here at kano.is)

Well surely don't want that.  Again thanks for always having the 30000 ft view of things.

Congrats on the growth... You are at the point now where it will be self perpetualing...  And the true "luck" reality will slap everyone in the face.

I do have a question for you as I trust your insight.   With this ever increasing difficulty.... I have trouble believing it can be as lineal as made out to be.   Is the variance between block finds going to grow and grow?  (or more 35 second finds and more 45 minute finds between blocks for the whole network)?   Because if this is true .... Two other things become true....  Either the pool needs to be huge... Or have very efficient software and network or you won't be able to survive.

Making things like p2pool dead.... And further encouraging empty block mining by the greedy.
Halving is so going to change the rules even more and will be here very quickly now.
There's no special change in "Bitcoin" variance since bitcoin adjusts the difficulty based on the (previous) 2015 blocks every 2016 blocks.

One is the 5minute value, the other is the 1hour value. 5min/1hr
1hr value is only shown after you've been mining for 1 hour
The 5min value has high variance and takes about 15min to get close to your hash rate.
The 1hour value has lower variance (but that depends on the miner) and takes about 3 hours to get reasonably accurate.

All rewards are based on submitted shares, not estimated hash rates - see Shifts

The luck sure has been good lately!  My decision to keep mining at full instead of following the voltage reduction that I calculated has sure paid off this time!

It looks like I'll be running my four SP20s at full speed for at least a few more weeks.  A week ago I moved them out of the garage and into the house.  More specifically, they are now right inside the HVAC return and the HVAC fan is set to always be on.  Based on the usage numbers I'm seeing on the power company web site, I'm getting between 50kWh/day and 70kWh/day savings from the heat they provide versus having them in the garage.  Once the percentage of heat they provide is factored in it makes the effective power rate 0.029 to 0.046 (way better than I expected!).  That means I'm plenty profitable at full speed through a couple more diff changes if the price doesn't drop too far.

The noise of four SP20s with 90% fan in the house is annoying, but with all of the extra airflow across them I can turn the fans down to 10% and only get a 5% reduction in hash rate with little noise!  I'm usually running the fans higher than that though since I don't like running the miner temps so borderline.  Actually, with the humidity difference inside, I'm getting better hash rates in the house with 25C intake than I was getting in the garage at 14C intake.

Unfortunately, it is almost certain these will no longer be profitable when spring arrives.  The diff has gone up too much!  I'm considering my options for that.

Decided to keep one of these batch 9 S7s. Underclocked using a Noctua fan at around 60 degrees with 4.5TH/s. Tolerable for now.

Lost my ISP connect for about 20 min. Time Warner never tells you when they're going to yank the plug on a whole section here on the island for maintenance. Hate it when that happens. I guess I'll see how long it takes to get back to full rate.

The good part is that prior to their replacing the junction boxes here at the complex (that was why they pulled the plug), I was getting about 20Mbps download, 3Mbps upload; now it's showing almost 60Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. Maybe I can pull the cable signal amplifiers off now.

For sure, mining over stratum needs nothing like those numbers ... the load is really very, very low.

True...but I do a lot of custom data crunching (volunteer) and forensic work, so the better the connection the happier camper I am. Compare that to what most people are getting out here in the outback of Kaua'i...5-6Mbps on DSL, mostly. Time Warner recently upgraded their backbone in the islands, but before that I was lucky to get 10Mbps. The mining, even all 7 machines, is a small load for my network. I just like to go fast.  Grin

Great luck over the weekend, my phone has been dinging at me like crazy.  Congrats to the first Avalon6 winner, that's really cool.

Blocks that are "close" to network difficulty are submitted anyways, just in case.  Sure, it's clear if it's a solve or not, but better safe than sorry.

Bitcoin mining hashes are a 256bit number. It's very expensive to try and use 256 bit numbers everywhere so we use 64 bit numbers in the very flexible double precision format. See how a number is not just a number by learning about the limitations of double precision here:
