It was nice to wake up to so many blocks.

It was not nice to wake up to the the VM that runs my node and rental bot being nearly down and completely useless.  It was completely out of memory.  It was up but unusable, yet it was not so unusable as to set off my alarm during the night.  Although it has worked perfectly for months now, starting last night a grep command in a script I had monitoring the node started thinking that debug.log was a binary file instead of a text file (throwing a "Binary file (standard input) matches" error) and somehow that led to a memory leak down the line (I still don't know exactly how).  Rebooting and adding a -a switch to the grep command fixed it, but along with the node my rental bot was down much of the night.

Then, just as I fixed that the power went out for about an hour!  When the power came back on none of my A6 would mine.  I had to reflash the SD cards and reconfigure to get each of the rPi to boot.

Crazy morning!

then i suppose you have not received any share for this 7 block found today .. complete blunder ..

His 5Nd should have given him nearly full shares.  Another thing I love about this pool!

Now for the expanding world of kano.is nodes ...

I've added another new node nl.kano.is in amsterdam, that anyone can mine to

This is somewhat of an attempt at a replacement for the DK node, but both will run in parallel for a short while.
If I do (probably) end up shutting down the DK node, I'll simply point DK to NL

DK has been a little unreliable, and one of the initial things that the provider said about upgrading their out of date KVM software, they still haven't done, so the NL node is a better performer than the DK node.

If anyone tries it out and compares the DK and NL nodes from wherever they, let me know how it fares for you.

So while I was trying to get my S7-LN working on *any* node I tried stratum.kano.is, de.kano.is, and dk.kano.is. As it turns out I am likely hitting upstream bandwidth limits (crappy @$$ DSL where I live, and no other reasonable options).

That said for me to get to stratum.kano.is is ~84ms and to get to nl.kano.is is ~98.5ms. The odd thing is that the trip from my Mac to stratum.kano.is 17 hops with seven cross US trips, while the trip to nl.kano.is is 13.

Code:
Mac-mini:~ boris$ traceroute -In stratum.kano.is

Kano, I read in the S9 thread that the new firmware is causing problems on your pool. If this is true I won't flash it. Do you have any info?

i forgot to mention to K man, in fact that guy who posted is a friend of mine, if he points to main server it's not good.

but if pointed to the node closest to him seems to be ok.

it is ok for me on 24th june fw for the s9 my hw error is 0.0001% pointed to the node closest to me.

ping for me is : ***SG Node***

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 18ms, Average = 14ms

Lastly, the GOLDEN Rule of Thumb . . . if it ain't broken DON'T fix it !

Let the blocks continue to roll & fall in ... i want ma supa-dupa GREEN, blinding GREEEEEN !

then i suppose you have not received any share for this 7 block found today .. complete blunder ..

I missed a pricing opportunity to "burst" my rentals to 2x the amount I usually rent in order to bring my N avg back up from the poor rental prices most of the previous days.  It isn't a total loss though since I did catch a little here and there and there yesterday and also had my own hardware.  My payouts will be about half of what they would have been.  The poor rental prices kept me from over-renting during the blockless time, so I was really looking forward to the luck aligning in my favor for a change.  It ended up being a wash-- I didn't catch the bad luck, but I mostly missed the good luck too thanks to the bot going down.  I sure would have liked catching the burst last night to get all the gains without the losses.  Rentals are very low margin (I'm at +3% over 3 months) so every missed opportunity is expensive.

Thanks, I generally keep miners on the latest firmware in hopes they run better. I'll hold off for now.

Gotcha, thanks for the info! I'm still learning how Kano works, i appreciate the response  Grin

Can anyone provide any input on the important indicators to monitor on the workers page? Right now share rate and hash rate have me stumped... I'm just trying to make sure my miners are running in the most profitable manner on the pool. I'm running two S7-LN's and three S9's, trying to figure out what the "norm" is for these boxes on the pool.

Hash rate is your ckpool determined hash rate over the last hour, however if you've been connected for less than an hour, it's the 5 minute value.

Share rate is a value calculated using the shares you have submitted in the last «Elapsed time frame.

They have different uses and different accuracies.

Hash rate is the more accurate estimate of your miner's hash rate.

Share rate is to show you that you are sending shares to the pool and roughly what that represents in hash rate, but is not very accurate.
i.e. if you point a miner at the pool, you'll get immedite feedback about it submitting shares and a rough idea of the hash rate.
The Share Rate and «Elapsed resets every network block.
Since «Elapsed is usually a short time frame, Share Rate is not an accurate measurement of the miner's hash rate.

Hash Rate updates once per minute, the rest of the numbers on the workers page are up to date to the second.

SG node will be getting a RAM upgrade within the next hour.

I've redirected SG to JP since that's the closest, so if you connect between now and when the upgrade is finished, you'll end up on JP.

We'll also send a reconnect to everyone on SG to JP just before it's shutdown for the upgrade.

Upgrade should only take a few minutes, then everything will be switched back.

I'll post again once it's all done.
