Post without the link -- Meanwhile ... I've been rather annoyed at the luck lately, not coz it's been that bad, but more coz it's been so damn unreliable ... and I keep thinking conspiracy theories So, to cheer me up, and hopefully everyone else, I've added a column to the top of the stats table on the blocks page. -ck requested this a while ago, and I finally added it It's the overall expected PPS% given the numbers displayed and also after removing the pool fee. I'll add a blue '?' popup at some later date, explaining it. thank you If you have your own node, then only you have control of your bitcoins. If you have something else, then you don't have control of your bitcoins. I still don't get why people are happy to give their bitcoins to someone else ... ... ... Block I will explain. A lot depends on what you are looking to accomplish by being on an exchange. My guess at the % of what the people there was. ⅓ of the people there were truly stupid to have the coins there since they were not using the features the exchange offer. They were lazy even if they were doing buy and sell I read 20 or more people that had all in and just there. truly stupid. ⅓ of the people were and are in multiple exchanges have a node and a wallet. they lost 5%- 10% of all the coins they have because they don't have every thing in one spot. I am in this bunch. ⅓ of the people wanted easy interest by providing margin loans you earn 10 maybe 15% a year this is easy money until a crash. I am going to talk about my uses of bitfinex. I mine BTC and yeah ETH/ETC I know don't mention the other coins but from my viewpoint until BTC provides more then the current 700,000 per day transaction cap they are a necessary evil as are the exchanges. we do 300,000 transaction on the btc blockchain each day we are capped at just under 700,000 max if every one was a 226 byte size. So back to me I mine btc here it goes into my payout address and sits around every once in a while I empty the address. I mine the two alts. I put 50 etc and 50 eth in bitfinex on margin loans getting an easy 10 to 50% interest rate. other then the 50 + 50 above . All etc and eth minings I convert to btc put it in my coinbase

What are the benefits of running a full node besides helping the network? Do you actually get paid?
I am thinking of setting up my own wallet recently too as my accumulation now nears 10 btc.
If you register a btc address with your node (via https://bitnodes.21.co/) you have a shot at a small cash prize every week, or at least they used to do that. And you might just get a random donation from someone, but no you don't get paid as that is not the point of running a node. You run a node to help the network and to have control over your coins. With 10btc you surely want to have control over them.

Well the famine part does anyway. It sucks only if you evaluate performance on a daily basis. If you evaluate the pool performance on a longer term (like monthly or quarterly) then the variance is no big deal and this pool cannot be beat. EDIT: The biggest issue for me is now that the halving has taken place can I still pay my operating costs and have anything left over. It doesn't matter how much better this pool is over all others, if I can't cover my costs then it is over for me. I have until October to decide.

folks, this may not be relevant to the topic but I know there are a lot of veterans here. I think my miner just got hacked 10 minutes ago...
I was working near the window and my miner is placed outside. I heard the fan noise reduced then coming back up, sounded like a reboot. 10 minutes later my pool notified me my rig was offline. I tried login to my miner using root/root and it didn't let me in. However I knew my miner was running full throttle at that point.
I have reset the miner to factory default to regain control now. But this is so scary. If someone can hack my miner then they have a chance to reach my computer and steal my btc info too. Any suggestions?

Hey Tony, As I understand it the S9 has an open API that will let anyone logon to it and change what they want if they can get on your network. Typical from Shitmain, get behind a firewall and you should be good until those with more knowledge of this chime in and give you better/more detailed advice. This is assuming you have an S9, not sure about the others but if one is open...

Thanks for the reply. I do unfortunately open a port forwarding on my main router just so I can check my miner status outside the house. Here's the router log of the access: [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 46.4.73.199, port 443, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:34:56 [DHCP IP: 192.168.1.19] to MAC address 24:77:03:07:44:8c, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:34:53 [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 46.4.73.199, port 443, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:33:56 [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 24.244.4.25, port 80, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:32:41 [admin login] from source 192.168.1.51, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:32:39 [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 46.4.73.199, port 443, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:32:36 [DHCP IP: 192.168.1.17] to MAC address 00:44:fa:86:16:43, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:32:07 [DHCP IP: 192.168.1.17] to MAC address 00:44:fa:86:16:43, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:31:46 [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 46.4.73.199, port 443, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:30:56 [DoS Attack: SYN/ACK Scan] from source: 91.225.237.39, port 80, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:30:54 [DoS Attack: RST Scan] from source: 46.4.73.199, port 443, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:14:46 [color=red][b][LAN access from remote] from 178.156.11.35:13328 to 192.168.1.17:80, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:13:32[/b][/color] [DoS Attack: Xmas Tress Scan] from source: 212.71.238.108, port 52100, Thursday, August 04, 2016 10:12:42

Better to use an app to check miner status (there's one for both Iphone and Android that's for kano ckpool) so you can keep your ports shut tight!

Well you are port forwarding directly to the miner on port:80, and you left default user/pass as root? It's like an open invitation for a hack. Good thing you noticed quickly. If you are going to open ports on your network you'll want to set up a specific VNC over SSH using a locked box. Most people find it just easier to use a third party client like teamviewer or hamachi - but still you'll be going to a designated box that from there can use browser to control miners.

If you're running your hw on your home network, just use the apps noted, or Teamviewer (even better), to check your statuses.
ALWAYS set a new root password. And close the port.
EDIT: I get people "sniffing" around all the time...they spend all their time looking for vulnerable IPs, etc. The above still applies.
