I still like to now how to use my old backup from the old wallet.

How can I retrieve the coins from there to my new wallet?

I think we'll end up having to send our coins to a new address generated by the new client but I'm not sure. I am waiting for some bugs to be fixed in the new wallet before I do anything and for an official response from David first though.

yes so well have to use the old wallet to send to the new wallet?

Would be easier if we could just import the old backup.dat file directly.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I still like to now how to use my old backup from the old wallet.

How can I retrieve the coins from there to my new wallet?

Here is how to get started with the new client: you first of all need to create a new wallet. Go to File -> New Wallet. Every wallet has 2 keys in order to protect you from being hacked, it's a multi-signature wallet. You need the two keys to access your wallet. You can save them wherever you want: for example save the first key on your computer and the second one on a usb drive. After you have done that, your new wallet is created.
That's the first step indeed and good to see it explained here. Now I hope that someone knows how to import any old address.

You can just send it to your new address in new wallet from old one. It seems like both are installed and it doesn't install over the old one. It installs it in "C" by default and old one is installed under "Program Files"

When I clicked on "new wallet" and it created 2 private key and 2 share key. I'm not sure if that's an error. I just uninstalled everything and starting over again.

Yes I do like to know how to Import my old wallet.dat?

Here we go:

Open new wallet. Go to File>New Walet> Save key1>Save key2
That'll give you your "Bay address" in wallet
Copy your address to notepad
Exit out of it

Go to C>Program Files>BitBay>bitbay-qt (old wallet)
Click on send and paste your new address
Exit

Go to C>Bitbay>Bitbay (new wallet)
Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and it'll show up.

I just sent 2 coins to my new wallet and above method worked.

The wallet system is different. There is no wallet.dat in this. There are two keys for every wallet. You need to protect both keys. It makes your wallet insanely hard to hack.

There's one in the map data?
And sorry for asking again, but is there a possibility to import my old vanity address into the new wallet?

Hmm thats strange, whats the error you are getting? Are you trying to run it at the same time as BitBay? We currently have both using the same RPC port. Will change that later. PM me if you still have problems.

there is a data directory made locally and wallet.dat is in there but it is definitely not your wallet. Its only used to store watchonly addresses. The two keys you generate in file/new wallet are you wallet.

There is a document under new software folder which explains Halo. You will need to send coins to yourself since old wallet didn't have smart contract therefore it requires wallet.dat. In smart contract wallet.dat gets replaced by public & private key

2.1 Starting Your First Wallet
When you start a new wallet (file/new wallet) on Halo, you will be asked to create two private keys. The two private keys are similar to, but even safer, than having two locks on your front door. Each private key also has a corresponding public key.

The public key is a key that can be shared without revealing the corresponding private key. Think of them like "fingerprints" for your private keys. You can prove who it belongs to, but you cannot copy the key.

The private keys are your personal keys, each unique and both are needed to make any transaction happen. You have the ability to encrypt/password protect each key individually for double protection.

Each private key has a corresponding public key. This form of encryption is what allows Bitcoin in the first place. It allows two-way cryptography.  Your public keys are backed up inside your private keys. If you lose your public key ".share" files, you can still use your wallet. BUT, if you lose your ".private" key files you lose access to your account and your money.

Awesome...a multi sig wallet! And the new website says that the marketplace will support BTC, Darkcoin and Blackcoin in addition to Bay? That is kind of rockin'...

Looking forward to messing around with it tomorrow...

Hmm thats strange, whats the error you are getting? Are you trying to run it at the same time as BitBay? We currently have both using the same RPC port. Will change that later. PM me if you still have problems.

Not running at the same time. It seems to happen after a few minutes and not even doing anything in particular (I first noticed it after I got back from having a coffee while I was letting the new wallet sync). I restarted the client and it crashed again after a few minutes. The crash is a generic APPCRASH and I don't get any particular error message. I'll try again and make sure I have all signs of the old wallet eliminated just to be sure.

Best approach is to run it on a fresh windows setup on VM. See if its crashing there too. Works fine for me tho

400 today would be as meaningful as the 50 yesterday. There's simply not enough trading volume (yet  Grin) for the price to truly mean anything be it high or low.

Just as an update, wallet seems to be working okay now. Not sure why bitbayd.exe was crashing before. Sent my coins from old wallet to new one just fine.

Question though, is staking enabled by default in the new wallet? Since it is using a new wallet format I assume we don't need to "unlock for staking" or anything and it will just be staking automatically when the wallet is open? I have not had it open long enough to see if it is or not so just wondering.
