1002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another attempt at Bitcoin ETF..You knew it was coming once BTC raised above ATH on: November 02, 2023, 02:09:27 PM
As much as SEC has the interest of potential and current investors as a primary duty, if they are not approving the ETF on grounds of investors not understand what these crypto assets are all about, hasn't ample time passed ever since this was brought before them and investors are educated enough by now  Huh Are they protecting their interests with the rumoured centralised coin about to hit the markets hence trying by all means BTC ETF fail Roll Eyes

Today the SEC meeting is scheduled and bitcoin's price surged past $35.5k on the speculation they might announce an approval to one of the applications:

Hope something good comes from this
1003  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and the fall of Twitter on: November 02, 2023, 08:22:28 AM

He desperately wants to be edgy and cool, noticed and adored.
If this is what's actually happening then it's safe to say his a jack of all trades and a master of non...but then again it will be unfair to say because his among the first to get Electric vehicles that are street legal, the first to use satellite internet in our orbits which actually provides fast internet for people towns and remote areas..surely he definitely is a genius unless his just the face of the company and the real brains behind all these innovations remain unknown to the world  Roll Eyes

In the world of fiat thought PayPal were bad , but even if they hit you with suspicious  transaction checks atleast they give user back your funds and deny you further access just to have a win win situation.

But with our crypto exchanges, it's a whole different story as this always turns out to be some kind of hijack and hide behind their terms and conditions to justify their action's...but as a user whose caught up in this ,best option is to give them what they want and once your account is in the clear withdraw and never go back to such jokers!!!

Just hope this is some "shotgun KYC" or "ToS-scam" as eXch calls it
1006  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First bull run - how to not sell too early? on: November 01, 2023, 10:28:07 PM
When I got into the world of Bitcoin and the buying and selling of this asset, knowing when to buy and when to sell were some of the things I struggled with as it was all guess work not until I was forced to learn charting skills because the more experienced users explained the best price to take profit and when to sell using chart's and it was at this point when my interest for chart's grew.

So for those waiting to experience their first bull, use chart's to pick out at what price you will be selling/buying and use skill to do this and not guess work. Otherwise back then making profits was so much easier as Bitcoin was still that unexplored asset.
1007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Still A P2P Electronic Cash System ?. on: November 01, 2023, 09:44:59 PM
As much as we want to stick to Bitcoins original purpose, unfortunately it's users will pretty much determine how best it can serve them and remain relevant!!!
Btw, If we are going to talk about Bitcoins p2p intentions originating from the whitepaper, then we might as well unfork whatever has been done to Bitcoins all in the name of originality !!

Besides, alot of factors have influenced the change of course of our cryptocurrencies such as regulation which was over looked ,and crypto is adapting to the change .
1008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is this fascination with claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto? on: November 01, 2023, 06:38:32 PM
Can't remember any of those names as time has passed but one name that stands out because of the extra length his gone trying to take that name/title is Craig Wright.

But why are they obsessed with claiming the name:
  • There is money to be made out there, interview sitdowns will pay for exclusives
  • Biography sales
  • Projects could get him as an advisor, list is endless

But of course it's all for selfish reasons of which the real Satoshi disappeared for the very same reasons.
1009  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Halloween giveaway scam is all over, protect your Bitcoin. on: November 01, 2023, 04:40:12 PM
If there is one thing I have realised over the years is that some of the services that look legit to most of us, do actual sell our data to third parties because most of the time after signing up for a service...spam folder tends to get or kinds of junk mail which is why I have dedicated email addresses for all kinds of business to avoid cheap phishing attacks and spam in general.

Otherwise OP thanks for the heads up , and am pretty sure scammers will be busy all season long as the festive season is around the corner trying to find someone  that falls for their cheap traps Cool
1010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "change password frequently" on: November 01, 2023, 04:03:01 PM
It's one of recommended security measures but I find it stupid. Imo, as long as your original password is strong enough, you do not need look at it ever again.

What's your opinion on this security measure?
The problem is never the strong passwords because from your side security can be airtight and all the basics of ensuring that no unauthorised person gets access to your stuff can be put in place like no clicking unknown clicks, no use of VPNs, use a device strictly for x purposes etc, but the problem comes in when you use password managers which history has shown that they do get hacked and data leaks out, it could be a database breach which is another reason why we are advised to change passwords regularly as this information isn't always shared with its users which is why it's good practice to just change passwords regularly Smiley

Do you change your passwords often? If no, have you been hacked?
Was never a fan of changing passwords , not until someone tried to ghost me with a loan in my name, and ever since I try to give myself a surviving chance against such by changing passwords..
1011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to value bitcoin and cryptocurrencies? on: November 01, 2023, 03:47:12 PM
like we value equities using equations and ratios, what are the factors on basis of which one can do valuation of bitcoins and the other cryptocurrencies for that matter.
I don't think Bitcoin can really be valued using equations especially that some aspect of it is speculative!

AFAIK, Bitcoin price leans towards what the buyer/seller is willing to pay or offer hence the reason why the laws of supply and demand tend to be applied,it's only that we use centralised exchanges more often these days but with decentralized exchanges the buyer or seller fixes the price..which bases it's price at auction value...

1012  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: November 01, 2023, 02:08:09 PM
The problem is most people think gambling is easy not until they try it for themselves . And when they try to prove a point that they can conquer this with their sportting knowledge, emotions get the better of them and this doesn't only negatively affect their financial well-being but day gets runied and whoever they come in contact with can feel the negative energy coming from such a person , hence gambling can indeed ruin a relationship!!!

And the worst thing about gambling is that if you aren't winning, you could find your self in debt and if you fail to payback this could ruin your business relation with creditors, and if creditor is your friend this could be the end of the road for such a relationship.
1013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Imagine life if there was know bitcointalk like this forum on: November 01, 2023, 05:02:43 AM
Bitcointalk is a lifestyle!

Had Bitcointalk not existed we might not have had Bitcoin as the Satosh brand of this world originates from here , or maybe it would have taken alot of time for us to know about cryptocurrencies as it might have launched on a different forum as this was bound to happen as it was it's fate to be known to the world...

But honestly, without BCT means no BTC  and some other form of digital currency was definitely going to make its way to the big leagues especially that we live in a digital world that heavily relies on all sorts of digital platforms and can't imagine how it would have turned out without it...good thing the forum happened and Bitcoin was born, the rest is history  Cool

1014  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⭐⚽⭐ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk Sports Fanatics League (BSFL) – 10000$ rewards ⭐⚽⭐ on: October 31, 2023, 08:56:13 PM
this should mean that Bonta is disqualified from the competition. In that case, all duels against him will be written as 3-0.
After making a successful appearance in the BSFL competition and only to be disqualified for ones personal reasons should sack, hope nothing serious that kept you away Cry

Lesson for us that try to beat the 11th hour.

So, we said we don't have a fixed deadline for today's submission. We have now recalculated and the deadline is 18:00 GMT.
Does this mean that the deadline time will be pushed to 18:00 forum time from now on or this was only done for this gameweek??

Lastly, for game week 3 I see am paired against Danydee again, do I get a point here based on the walkover or this means neither me nor Danydee will be scoring points for GW3 Huh

1015  Economy / Economics / Re: Small Scale Business Ideas on: October 31, 2023, 06:30:35 PM
Let's talk about small scale businesses that have low risks and promising profits so that we can have capital to invest and become passive income in the future.
Depending on which country you are coming from, and depending on the weather situation there, I believe low risk businesses to consider is anything agriculture related, but for something I would advise low risk and weather selective it has to be fish farming... Other possible choices available are YouTubing, drop shipping etc

Do you have a small business idea? or business experience? I want to hear it
Unfortunately all business ideas I have ventured into are high risk, it's either repair/maintainance costs cut through your profits or people responsible for running the business are acting dishonest, it's a tough world out there.. But it is what it is never give up.
1016  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] SimpleFX.com - forex broker with BTC and LTC crosses and 1:500 leverage on: October 31, 2023, 05:04:24 PM
Great to know we have such a service provider herenon the forum...and the leverage is good for growing small accounts will give you a try  Cool

Btw is SimpleFX.com a regulated broker?

And seeing you have the major currencies EU GU GJ etc, how good/bad are the  spreads..are these raw spreads.??

Lastly do you service everyone around the world , or some countries are blacklisted from using your service?
1017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Educating unemployed friends about Bitcoin on: October 31, 2023, 02:21:17 PM
Honestly you are a good friend to your buddies, you haven't sugar coated what Bitcoin is all about, you have lead out all the positives and negatives about it which is a great start, but having to navigate around the legal aspect of it will be the difference...

But the best approach will be to ask them, what do they have to lose if they invest a few minutes of their time getting to know how Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies work versus remaining unemployed when the crypto industry has opportunities out there waiting for them through investments and every other ventures that will reward them for their time... It's now or never , the crypto train isn't waiting for anybody.
1018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My Little Advice For Gamblers on: October 31, 2023, 01:14:43 PM
Death is one thing very few of us want to talk about or prepare for because it's a terrifying topic, but truth of the matter is everyone of us will walk down this road.
And honestly the better we confront this reality the better and if we know that that we can help family in one way or another should our assets pass onto someone more else then we need someone trust worthy to have this access...

But unfortunately with crypto where we have total control of such assets, am afraid to say these will remain forever locked unless he has some backups somewhere.

And in all his family, friends, no body knew the password to unlock his phone or computer, not even his girl friend.
They have tried all the password ideas they had but non was correct, at the end, they had to reset the phones back to their factory settings , right now as I am typing this post, the family have no idea how they can access the casinos where the guy left tens of thousands of dollars, and neither do they have any idea how to access the money.
With casinos, am pretty sure his ID can be used to grant them access to his account(s) or a court can be used aswell .

But resetting his mobile device won't help them and need to find other ways to gain access...

The guy is also an investor in crypto currencies, and I personally believe he also have investments in crypto coins which the family may also never be able to access.
These might never be recovered unless they are on some third party platform, but let them try to start with an email address to see what he has been up to...
1019  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has anybody expected this? on: October 31, 2023, 09:24:40 AM
Not that I'm a charting expert or a good technical or fundamental analyst let alone a bear, but I'm really surprised at the spike that's happened, and which is probably continuously happening as of this writing. So far, the price has already hit above $34,000. That's already more than 12% in growth in just 24 hours.
For someone like me that trades currencies, I will tell you that such moves are usually seen whenever there is news and I must make mention that this is the most volatile time to trade these assets as liquidity is more...
For crypto, this isn't any different as his usually happens when we have news, and this being a bullish spike means the news was in favour of the bulls and everyone is buying and you wouldn't want to catch a falling knife, trade with the trend which is currently bullish.

Has anybody somehow expected this kind of thing? Has anybody had at least a tiny clue that something like this would happen?
I think for the last couple of months, we all have been bullish in anticipation of the Bitcoin spot ETF and the halving, so I guess the move was very much expected despite it originating from a fake news approval.

Those who didn't buy when the price was around $26k since they were expecting a further drop must be regretting their decision now when there are no signs of it going back to that area anytime soon, but still, since the market is highly unpredictable, anything can happen, and the price might drop again.
Price hasn't travelled far enough for us to feel safe that it cannot come back to this price of 26K , besides for a higher high to be created a higher low needs to be posted which is the pullback before a new high is made..

Otherwise you are right about markets being unpredictable, though we still remain bullish even if price pulls back briefly..
1020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the most weird thing you bought with crypto? on: October 31, 2023, 06:35:05 AM
Not sure if I can call it weird but I bought some ICO tokens  of a gaming project that I thought and looked promising on paper at the time ,and only realised I was given 90% of the total supply when I only bought a small fraction which was weird , but unlucky me this project went under the bus and still hold these shitcoins till this day  Tongue

Back when Netflix used to offer free trials there was a guy on Reddit who would create an account for you and I used to pay him a few bucks in BTC each month for a new account. It was better than paying full price. Sadly, Netflix stopped offering these trials because too many people were abusing it to get free or discounted subscriptions.
Bitcoins well spent, to save a few bucks love it Smiley

But if not mistaken, Netflix still offers these trials for some countries though this service of selling such accounts has gone down as sharing accounts isn't as easy as it was.
