1221  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: This might become a very important legal precedent for SEC vs. Coinbase on: September 02, 2023, 03:28:59 AM
@Poker Player. You are asking a difficult question, however, let me ask you if gold miners find new deposits of gold and inflates the supply around the world, would this make gold stop being a commodity?

Also, if you use the inflating supply argument to define a commodity, I reckon Ethereum's supply has been going down already since it began being a proof of stake platform.
1222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 02, 2023, 02:42:19 AM
@ChiBitCTy. However, in many of the games Christian McCaffrey will be given most of the carries going to the endzone for the touchdown. We cannot be 100% certain of this but I will be very happy to draft him as the 12th pick on the 1st round hehehehe.

In any case, in the mock drafts it appears that everyone is improving their cheatsheets. I can be 2nd or 3rd in the standings drafting from 11th and 12th last week but presently I can only be 7th and lower.
1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hong Kong officially launches its first Bitcoin and crypto trading platform on: September 01, 2023, 04:12:00 AM
I've got a couple buddies whom live in Hong Kong that I chat with on a semi-regular basis.  I think this is of course a great thing for bitcoin as well as Hong Kong.  What's more, the fact that Hong Kong (semi-Chinese owned) is even doing this in the first place, despite the fact that China has banned bitcoin (and I think all cryptocurrencies except for the digital yuan , if I'm not mistaken).

China has no choice, I reckon. They will need all sources of liquidity to energize their economy after their strict coronavirus lockdowns. I speculate that within the next 2 years we might witness a regulated exchange open in Shanghai to encourage inflows of liquidity through the cryptospace. If they do not do this, all these cashflows will instead go to the jurisdictions surrounding them hehehe.
1224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spot Bitcoin ETF Approval Odds Rise to 75% (Bloomberg) on: September 01, 2023, 03:31:38 AM
It also appears that the odds for approval might also rise higher after September. Uncle Gary is scheduled to appear in congress and be pressured to testify on what he is doing in office, being a regulator through enforcement without legal clarity.

The skeptical me is thinking that Blackrock is starting to use their political connections to force uncle Gary to sign the applications on the ETF before the end of 2023 hehehehe.

In what could be yet another tough face off with lawmakers, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler looks set to testify before two separate committees of the US Congress in September 2023. These hearings come at the back of the historic XRP lawsuit Summary Judgment and the Grayscale spot Bitcoin ETF lawsuit victory, both of which are huge setbacks for the US SEC during the Gensler regime.

1225  Bitcoin / Legal / This might become a very important legal precedent for SEC vs. Coinbase on: September 01, 2023, 02:29:57 AM
It appears another judge has done uncle Gary's job for him again hehehe. On a case against Uniswap, another judge of Southern District of New York has ruled that Ethereum is a commodity and refused to use the federal securities laws to cover the conduct alleged, according to the article.

This is a victory for the cryptospace and another good legal precedent. Also, this judge will also be hearing the case of SEC vs. Coinbase.

A New York court classified popular cryptocurrencies ether (ETH) and bitcoin (BTC) as "commodities" while dismissing a proposed class action lawsuit against leading decentralized crypto exchange Uniswap in a Wednesday filing.

The court's opinion on its dismissal of the class action suit could influence future litigation against decentralized protocols and perhaps even those alleging violation of U.S. securities laws.
Judge Polk Failla also oversees the SEC lawsuit against Coinbase.

1226  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC Fight Night & Main Event: Sportsbet.io Predictions & discussion on: September 01, 2023, 01:22:00 AM
Looking a lot like we’re going to see a Sean O’Malley defense on the night of Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon. How awesome of a fight night card would that be? I don’t care who they’re fighting or how bad they look, I’m taking O’Malley and McGregor together and hoping for an all time classic UFC event. Hopefully in December.

That could be great but for sure Conor McGregor needs to first be approved by USADA before he can fight anyone in the UFC, but likely Michael Chandler is the promised fighter he would fight 1st, but if there is a chance that McGregor could fight Sean O'Malley then for sure that will be one epic fight as both are utilized and is a pure striker,

Just watched the fight between Manon Fiorot and Tabatha Ricci and she does have punching power. That was two years ago but that kind of skill just doesn't go away and she has only one loss on her record.
Was a Rose Namajunas fan for quite awhile but that was before her last fight against Carla Esparza which took the wind out of her sails.
Don't know if it was her suffering exhaustion physically but she just didn't move in that fight for what she was known for in the past.
This one I am looking forward to see if Rose can come out of these problems and return to the old Namajunas we all have witnessed in those amazing fights such as @jakelyson has mentioned against the current champion Zhang Weili.

Gane vs Spivac should be a grappling matchup and see it either ending in a submission or a decision.

I don't know about Manon Fiorot but if Rose Namajunas was hit by those punches then she would have gone cold for sure, because Rose Namajunas is a technical striker I doubt that Fiorot could likely win with power alone, for sure Namajunas will combo with kicks and punches for sure, but because of that long break she had I really don't know if she improves or not so this is really not a great time in getting to bet for her, for sure we might go into this event blinded,

Gane and Spivac might end up with a Submission or a Decision, it will truly depend on how well these two fighters did with their improvements, for sure Upon being defeated with wrestling and submission Ciryl Gane would likely have caution with wrestling and submission or this is just my wish,

Rose Namajunas has mental and psychological issues. I reckon her long break and her absence from the octagon was very much needed to have her mentally present during a fight. Did you watch her vs. Carla Esparza? She did nothing! She was not 100% mentally in the fight.

On Cyril Gane and Serghei Spivak, it appears the Moldovan is very much underestimated by the bettors hehehe. It might end with a submission or a technical knockout. I am quite certain that this fight will not go to a decision.
1227  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 01, 2023, 12:30:07 AM
Just so ya'll know, I'll be taking Justin Jefferson with my first pick...so now you can plan accordingly  Grin

Lol, I assume your just joking or just trying to throw us off, but he's likely to be one of the better receivers in the league this year.

Justin Jefferson is the no.1 overall pick in my cheatsheet then Christian McCaffrey in no.2 and Jmarr Chase in no.3. However, if I had a chance to draft first I would pick Christian McCaffrey. He can do much more on the field and create more fantasy points. Did he not score a passing touchdown last year ehehe.

In any case, what is the final schedule of our draft? Everyone can make it?

Agreed! hehehehehe.

However, there should be a type of strategy that can be used to gain back some advantage if drafting near the last slots. I was thinking of having a team heavy with good wide receivers this year if I had a good slot. But it appears if near the last places, is it good to do Kelce and Mahomes in 1st and 2nd rounds?
There must be a way to gain an edge, however there is little doubt to me that drafting at the extremes of the draft, whether it is too high or too low, is more difficult than to draft from the middle positions, as in my mock drafts I always do worse when drafting at the extremes than when drafting on the middle, personally I would have been fine with anything between the 4th and the 9th picks so I am very happy with my draft position, and while drafting Kelce and Mahomes would be a good combo, I doubt Kelce will drop to the point you could draft him.

@suchmoon has said already that he will draft Kelce, he is 7th pick. I assume Kupp, Jmarr Chase, Tyreek Hill and Ekeler will have owners before my turn hehehe. I should not expect anything this year and depend on luck on the waiver wire.
1228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hong Kong officially launches its first Bitcoin and crypto trading platform on: August 31, 2023, 04:35:14 AM
Yeah when I heard about this a year back I assumed it would be very bullish because it would bring tons of money into the crypto market. However whenever we got news that it was finally a reality and trading would be allowed, nothing happened. And the price is still not exploding due to this news.

I think the people who wanted to own bitcoin already did in alternate ways and those that want to buy bitcoin won’t do it now but only when bitcoin breaks ATH. Many believe Bitcoin is dead right now because it’s trading sideways for many months.

New regulated exchanges from Hong Kong and later Shanghai will start everything slowly and do a whitelisting process. The only cryptocoins that will be listed in the beginning are Bitcoin and Ethereum. You can confirm by going to Hashkey exchange, the first legal exchange in Hong Kong.

I reckon in a confirmed bull market, the whitelisted projects being prepared for listing in Chinese exchanges might be the source of much speculation, very similar to when Binance speculations we have witnessed hehehe.
1229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The next trending storyline in DeFi might be RWA on: August 31, 2023, 03:18:46 AM
Quote
“We do believe that if we can create more tokenization of assets and securities – that’s what bitcoin is – it could revolutionize finance,” he said. Previously known to be a skeptic of crypto, Fink years ago suggested fans of the asset class heavily used it for “illicit activities.”

It seems that you misunderstood his words, he said that’s what bitcoin is and the whole article talks about bitcoin and being an alternative investment instead of pumping more investments in gold or even in emerging currencies because it is decentralized and not linked to the policy of a particular country.

He means tokenization of assets such as gold and does not mean DeFi because there is already tokenization in the form of the stock market where you buy and sell ownership of part of the company and yet all the assets are there and the management structure is the same and does not change.

DeFi will not find interest with high interest rates and guaranteed money, it was good during Covid as the interest was close to zero and it was easy to get a loan.

I reckon that he might have misunderstood his own words because the creation of more tokenization of real world assets and securities is not what bitcoin is. The creation of bitcoin might be a creation of a new type of asset, however, bitcoin is not the tokenization of certain assets and securities. We should also be careful mentioning something like this because the maximalists might hear us hehehehe.

On your speculation on DeFi, you might be correct. What they might do is tokenize an asset and use their own centralized platforms to create markets for trading and transactions. This is worse than DeFi because they will control all of the gateways. The small minnows might not be allowed through their gateway hehehehe.
1230  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tornado cash founders charged with money laundering/sanctions violations on: August 31, 2023, 03:07:04 AM
-snip-
I'm sure the DoJ will be equally punitive against any fiat banks caught to be laundering money for North Korea though, right!?

Like when JPMorgan Chase laundered $89 million for 11 companies which they knew were linked to North Korea and were previously flagged as being suspicious? Or when BNY Mellon laundered $86 million in transactions which had "no clear commercial reason" for individuals which had talked openly in the media about "conducting business with North Korea"? I'm sure the DoJ will soon be handing out some punishments soon, right!?

Oh no, those documents came out 3 years ago and literally nothing happened: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/secret-documents-show-how-north-korea-launders-money-through-u-n1240329

As I said above, this has absolutely nothing to do with money laundering, and has everything to do with the government losing its grip on your lives. They don't care about money being laundered at all, as long as it is the right people doing the laundering.

What the Tornado Cash founders appear to have done wrong is if they wanted to develop opensource software that might be cracked down by the government, they should have done this more anonymously similar to what Satoshi has done when he began developing bitcoin. This is not only good for security, it will also encourage more developers to contribute to the project anonymously.

The other reason that they should have been more anonymous is because the founders hold governance tokens and they are making profit from the usage of this opensource mixer. The government does not want to encourage the creation of a decentralized organization the profits from criminal activity because presently it is easy to create by using smart contracts, blockchain and DeFi.
1231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [JUST IN] Grayscale wins lawsuit against the SEC on: August 31, 2023, 02:43:15 AM
I don't get it: on the one hand, Bitcoin users are very much into "not your keys, not your coins". But on the other hand, "we" all want an ETF to pump the price. Which one is it? Encourage people to pay someone else to (promise to) hold Bitcoins for them, or encourage people to hold their own Bitcoins?

Also, I thought that the community wanted mainstream adoption, however, when the real rulers and institutional investors begin to lobby for more and stricter regulations, more KYC, more transparency on transactions and more control on the cryptospace, everyone starts complaining hehehe. This is a very head shaking human occurrence hehe. This is what mainstream adoption will certainly be. The cryptospace before 2017 will not be similar to the cryptospace after 2023. It will be a rich man's playground very much similar to traditional finance.

I know this is good news but won’t this be bearish in the near future. If the GBTC etf is confirmed then people will buy the GBTC and short the actual bitcoin until it launches. By shorting they hedge their position which should be balanced by the end.

And the fund will be unlocked and the 600K will be released into the market again. So there will be more supply. Most likely nobody will use GBTC due to high fees and with blackrock etf begin live also.

Why should they make it more difficult for themselves. The ETF is bullish. What they should do is buy spot bitcoin and short the futures market if they want a hedge against their spot buy without reducing their exposure.

@Husires. What is that indicator? Is that forks price vs. bitcoin?

In any case, the pump at present might only be an excited reaction on Barry Silbert's victory, similar to Judge Torres' ruling on Ripple'.
1234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 30, 2023, 04:45:07 AM
Can I make a request to start it either 2 hours before or 2 hours after of 7pm?

Check with Hhampuz and Nutildah, and see if they can adjust, I am going to guess not as they are both like 12 hours out from each other so that is where they can both make it.

So only force a change if you really have to.

I cleared my schedule. I removed all meetings with Donald Trump, Putin and Oprah Winfrey. I told them that I have something more important to do. The Donald asked what it was. I replied my fantasy league draft. Putin frowned, Oprah was shocked and rested her hands on her waist and the Donald gave me a thumbs up.

@South Park. I like the hash lottery. It will make you feel if you won or lost something hehehehe. I thought I won last year, however, I learned that I did not want to be first in a snake draft order.
1235  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tornado cash founders charged with money laundering/sanctions violations on: August 30, 2023, 04:07:36 AM
Stumbled across this post on Reddit, where the OP nicely expresses the same sentiments I expressed earlier in this thread:

The so-called "anti-money laundering" movement that pushed for this indictment is a fascist mass-surveillance ideology wrapped up in euphemisms. It's reminiscient of the surveillance state ideology espoused by the CCP in China.

This doesn't just apply to mixers, but to everything that is pushed in the name of "AML". They'll go after mixers, after peer to peer trades, after DEXs, after the stupidly named "self hosted" wallets (which just means holding your own keys), after any and all services which don't collect KYC data. They can't stand a form of money which they do not have absolute control over. It weakness their control, weakness their grip on your life. Their ultimate goal is that all bitcoin is bought and paid for only on regulated KYC platforms, and it never leaves those regulated KYC platforms. The only thing you will be allowed to do with it is send it from one regulated KYC platform to another, using a list which they will create of "approved" platforms. Owning your own keys won't be allowed. Making your own transactions won't be allowed.

Unless people stop acquiescing to the ever more intense and invasive demands of centralized exchanges, then this is the future we are sleep walking in to.

I very much agree. On the case of the Tornado Cash founders, the DOJ used fud by implying that the Lazarus group might be using Tornado Cash to mix their funds. I reckon none of this is connected to the Lazarus group because their funds are being tracked already. It is speculated that the Lazarus group storyline was only a fear tactic or a distraction used to force the amendment and the creation of more executive orders to use against the cryptospace.

OFAC sanctioned the Lazarus Group on September 13, 2019, pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13722, and identified it as an agency, instrumentality, or controlled entity of the Government of North Korea. The Lazarus Group has operated for more than 10 years and is believed to have stolen over $2 billion worth of digital assets across multiple thefts. Due to the pressure of robust U.S. and United Nations sanctions, the DPRK has resorted to using illicit tactics, such as cyber-enabled heists perpetrated by the Lazarus Group, to generate revenue for its unlawful weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.

Semenov is being designated pursuant to E.O. 13694, as amended by E.O. 13757, for having materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or in support of, any activity described in subsections (a)(ii) or (a)(iii)(A) of E.O. 13694, as amended, or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to E.O. 13694, as amended; and pursuant to E.O. 13722 for having materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or in support of, the Government of North Korea, a person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to E.O. 13722.

1236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [JUST IN] Grayscale wins lawsuit against the SEC on: August 30, 2023, 03:19:46 AM
I think the hype might be short-lived.  The SEC still have the final say on whether anything gets approved or not.  Otherwise every company would be filing a lawsuit.  Still don't think a Spot ETF will happen for another few years yet.

Agreed. Uncle Gary has been losing these cases against the cryptospace everywhere and in his embarassment he might begin operation cryptospace annoyance by creating delays and more delays on the approval for the ETF. His term as SEC chairman will end on June 5, 2026.

I am also afraid that if the ETF is approved on 2026, it might mark the market top months after approval after twaps hehehe.
1237  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 30, 2023, 02:47:53 AM
OK, I think we are going to have to put a timeframe on setting our draft time.

I'm sure most of us need to know at least a few days ahead of time when the draft will be so as to set our schedules not to conflict with other drafts and RL shit.

So I think I will have to give a cutoff time for discussion of Wed and have a last and FINAL vote on thurs if we don't have a consensus before then.

We are currently waiting on nutildah and Hhampuz to figure a out a timeframe they can both make and give that to us to verify we can all make that range.

*****************************************************************************************************************************
RULES CHANGES:
OK, I went back and reread all the posts and started applying peoples votes but found it became unwieldy as some of the discussions changed the questions and I didn't feel the people that voted should be locked in to their votes and rather than make a whole discussion over each change here are the current questions and everyone can vote again.

* denotes last years setting

1) South Park: Should we change the playoff format?
And let 6 teams to move to the playoffs with the top two teams getting a BYE or maybe expand it to 8 teams as some may not like not playing their teams on

the most important part of the season?

Playoff spots:

a)4 *

b)6

c)8

2)DireWolfM14:What do you guys think of having two payouts?  I was thinking the second place team gets double the entry fee, and winner takes the rest.

Payout places
a)1*

b)2*

c)3

d)MORE

*note 1st place was split last year as the death on the field cancelled a game with league players original was winner take all

3)morvillz7z: replace kicker with a flex spot

a) yes

b) no*

C) don't care/abstain

4) OK now on the waiver method, due to the choices being multifaceted it can become complicated to vote for one.

So I think what we can do is break it down and vote multiple times on the method to choose.

OK if that was not clear this is an example of what I am saying.

We will vote on whether to use reverse order or continuous rolling or a mix of the two (hybrid). If we choose reverse order then there are 2 different choices of that (I will explain that if that is our choice before the next vote) and if we do hybrid then obviously those 2 choices also come into play. So we will not need a second vote only if continuous rolling is chosen.

Now correct me if i'm wrong but I think 2 years ago we used reverse order and last year we used continuous rolling.

NOW a Hybrid just means that we can use both.

I will change the method depending on what we decide.

For instance my choice would be to use Reverse for the beginning of the league (like first 5 weeks) and then change to continuous rolling for the remainder of the league.

My argument for this is that if you draft horrible then the first 5 weeks you can get good waiver picks and make a decent team BUT after 5 weeks it will not hurt good teams that get injured players by pushing them down to the bottom of the waiver list every week which I believe is unfair.

So the current voting options are.

a)reverse order

b)continuous rolling

c)Hybrid

d) don't care/abstain

My votes are

1) Playoff spots, 4.
2) Payout spots, 1 is okay, however, if most of you want 2, also okay.
3) Replace kicker with flex, no. I like to play similar to our team format last year.
4) Waiver method, okay to hybrid. Reverse and continuous order did not have a difference for me hehehehe. I still lose.

OK, PMing everyone also announced in discord and will be emailed through league that Monday, September 4th, 7 p.m. EST will be Draft date unless they Veto it by Wed.

Can I make a request to start it either 2 hours before or 2 hours after of 7pm?
1238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The next trending storyline in DeFi might be RWA on: August 29, 2023, 03:21:04 AM
First, you can not have decentralized finance when dealing with real-world assets. There must be a centralized intermediary in between.

They are called oracles and presently Chainlink has created their platform giving this type of functionality. Also with Chainlink, institutions can have blockchain connectivity solutions for RWA and interoperability between blockchains. The infrastructure is there, it only needs to be used and it appears in the interview with Larry Fink, Blackrock is very interested.

Also, it is very important to mention again that the next inflow of funds from institutional investors to the cryptospace might go through the tokenization of real world assets like corporate and government bonds. It might not be through altcoins and it will certainly not be through NFTs hehehehe.

Similar to what I have mentioned before, the people are presently witnessing disbelief in this market. They speculate that this is only another bear market rally that will certainly dump later. I shake my head on this because despite every bad news about the economy, bitcoin has been going up since November.

However, what might cause a dump is Mtgox's repayment of $4.3 billion in bitcoins. It is very much certain that the receivers of these coins are very excited to sell some of them after being frozen for many years hehe.

Mt. Gox creditors are set to receive payouts in October 2023.
142,000 BTC, currently worth $4.3 billion, are set to return to general circulation.
