141  Other / Beginners & Help / Treat newbies right - Teach them and sell to them at the ATH on: January 08, 2021, 03:56:58 PM
So my title isn't false in any way but it's not the whole story. I recently had the opportunity to assist 2 people with their first time buys and holding plans. Each case ended differently but had similarities throughout. First was a coworker who had heard about it before but only considered it say August/September, the second a longtime friend who has heard me talk about it for years when we get together.

The overall similarities were funny as they both got serious-ish around the 12K price mark and then went radio silent on the subject during most of the recent run-up. The co-worker did buy himself a ledger as that's what made him most comfortable longterm, about a week before the data breach announcement. That was funny, either way I got him set up on a platform I use to buy sometimes so he could jump in whenever he was ready. Onboarding was nearly painless except his bank flagged his first transaction and was hold/blocking it without details being given to him or the recipient. Apart from that he got in for something around 32K and bought the dip at 28K - got lucky as he happened to be going into work and as a new holder was obsessively checking price.

Second friend is busier runs a company so when he got back in touch I said it would be fairly easy to get him crypto, but did he have a wallet downloaded yet. Obviously that was a no, but easily remedied as he had at least looked into Electrum as I suggested. So he took care of the install, then over a phone call I walked him through the features of the wallet and answered whatever questions still lingered. In the end he wanted to make his first purchase and I gave him the same platform option as the first guy and also offered to sell some of my coin. He put out a FIAT range and I chose the smallest denomination. This was last night around 39.5K.

I figured I'd share this story as I imagine a lot of you have been in or could be in a similar situation given the current climate. It can be tough not to get overly excited and/or let our opinions influence a newbies final decisions. For each of these people I gave them the same information about wallets and basic pros/cons lists. I also pointed them towards info for their own research. I made sure to point out the importance of protecting their seed phrases and back-ups, as well as making sure they are familiar with any recovery process. Then each time I demonstrated a transaction or some other functionality with them to get through that first hurdle. Finally we talked about price. In both cases they expect some sort of drop, but it hasn't happened yet so they wanted to start their first buy and will continue to grow their holdings over time. This made their journey easier for the moment as it was pretty much done, they know how to accumulate more and how to sell if they need/want.

TL;DR
You will likely have the opportunity to help a newbie. Each situation can and will be different but try to remember you should use your experience to help, but not influence. Everyone should get there in their own way, and you can help them do so in an informed and safe way.

Also I did introduce and sell a friend BTC at the ATH  Wink

You should go to the collectibles section for more accurate information. It's a toss up really, in BTC value the premium in theory will be ever shrinking as price continues to grow. Most of the premium is also tied into the alt coins one can get when they peel loaded coins. The price would also be hard to pin down as most of the coins were graded and slabbed years ago that generally come up for sale.
The other side of it is that as more of the coins get peeled they are a rarer find. Either way good luck.

I would add for your particular case this is also probably one of the safest methods for you to store your 1 BTC for the long haul.
143  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: btc - need help on: January 08, 2021, 02:54:54 PM
I can't remember if it's trading volume or withdrawals, but 20BTC moving around on a new account will have definitely triggered flags. I'm assuming you had to verify your account. Seems you've already managed but your best bet for anonymously making the exchange are BTM's the fees can be high, but if you find out who owns the machine they might offer a better rate for a large transaction

You have a cool party) It's a pity that this series is almost over. Betnomi will sponsor poker tournaments for the forum in the future?
I believe we got confirmation that they will sponsor one more tournament. If we manage to increase participation in the series it could lead to further sponsorships. Definitely follow the thread for any future announcements or join the telegram group linked in the OP.
145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please be careful reaching out for trades on forum on: December 28, 2020, 04:05:49 AM
My advice, if you really want to sell or exchange your cryptocurrency to fiat or paypal, just go to trustworthy exchange sites, there are many of them.
See if I can I do all my trades through the forum. I just exercise caution, one of the reasons I advocate for appropriate uses of feedback. I hve a few places I go to if I can't get waht i want don on forum, but try to limit that activity as much as possible. When I first got into crypto my I used my countries largest exchange, they were as legit as legit can be, until they weren't and 80% of what hey were supposed to be holding was gone.

It is definitely a reasonable alternative, but I would also be very cautious anytime you start using one of these exchanges

New generations want modern ways of communication, which is quite logical - but they do not understand the dangers that come with it. Completely strangers offering great earning opportunities, handsome girls to whom BTC is stuck on an exchange and only need 0.02 BTC to pay a fee or scammers pretending to be famous forum members are just some of the easy ways to be fooled. These are no longer isolated cases, but I would dare to say that these are organized criminal groups for which such things have become the main source of income.
Exactly it's convenient and if they use it to socialize they likely feel as comfortable as I do navigating the forum. The problem lies when they begin to use it for anything involving money as they have a false sense of security and then it's too late. It always stats off so nice and sweet, with a bro, or a dear, or my friend, all the niceties the world, to get your money.

It is a shame but there are a lot of places in the world where this is seemingly acceptable behavior, and is most definitely a business for some.

~snip~
That's actually the topic that inspired me to come issue the warning.
146  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: December 27, 2020, 07:21:37 PM
I believe a good compromise would be to add an additional donation tier so to not be unfair to those who donated in early days to get their status. Donation amount to get into that tier could then be set according to today's prices.
Why do we need a tier at all. Donation "rewards or staus" are usually only needed when there is a need to ensure there is enough capital to keep a project going. So it makes sense in the early days when value was low for people to send 10 or 50 BTC for the custom title and what not, to promote and grow BTC which is what most early users where looking to do. Now there really isn't any need to create custom titles for donating funds, the forum is flush.
Custom titles are much more relevant to what the forum needs now, such as reporters, and quality contributors to content and services throughout the forum. I don't see this happening, I'm just showing that time is more valuable to the forum than cash at this point.

Og pointed it out, people can donate at anytime in any amount if they truly feel the need. It just doesn't come with a title, which is what most people want. It's really just another part of being fashionably late to the BTC party.

Okay just getting off nights. I've registered and will hopefully wake up in time, and not fall asleep while playing.

Good luck everyone
148  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Charity Funds on: December 27, 2020, 09:17:52 AM
I do not mean to be rude but do you have a pictures that serves as a proof. I am kind of skeptic, and I think that it is reasonable to look at what the donation goes through. You mentioned the website can you drop the link for many to see.
What are you referring too?? Here is the Charity ANN that was shared with me in an earlier post.
You can see they update when they distribute charity funds, and can follow the thread there.
149  Other / Beginners & Help / Please be careful reaching out for trades on forum on: December 27, 2020, 09:03:27 AM
Not that the Forum is universally safe. There are scammers here and they will do anything to get your funds.

For the love of whatever you believe in though, do not take your communication off forum. I get it this can be annoying to try and PM here if your account is fresh with the time limits in between PM's. The work around is hammering out all the details in the thread by posting back and forth, and saving any personal information you don't want to share for PM.

Telegram and Discord are insanely welcoming to scammers and make it so F'n easy for them to pretend to be somebody else. There legitimately is no rush to get the trade done immediately, I get it the price is pumping right now, but don't let the FOMO drive you into letting your guard down.

The biggest advice I can give you is our reputations on Bitcointalk, only go that far. Not everyone actually uses all these platforms popping up, and scammers can easily name squat on them as they know this forum is a honey pot.

Please keep your funds safe this Bull Run, and take a second to breathe and make sure everything is on the up and up. Beyond that use respected, tried and tested forum escrows on forum as well. Legit users don't scoff at this.

This can't be stressed enough I feel like I've said these same things countless times so I wanted to say it again here at the source of the most likely to get scammed.

I am not immune.

Just to add. Do not put any other contact details directly in your posts. Telegram ID, Email, Discord contact. Why you might ask. Anyone who reads it can then contact you pretending to be anyone they want. reserve this information for PM's
150  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The Pharmacist scammed me on: December 27, 2020, 08:49:00 AM
Sorry to hear OP. This is a learning lesson that hopefully hasn't left you too far out of pocket.

For anyone suggesting contacting Paypal
Odds are Paypal won't help you because the scammer will have asked you to send it F&F to avoid fees. PP doesn't give a shit and will just close your claim unless they have changed in the last few years. Depending on how you funded the payment you might be able to contact that institution. If it was your bank they might be able to get it reversed.

Doubt it needs to be said but this was another imposter preying on a newbie.
151  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: one hashboard is 91 Degree on: December 25, 2020, 05:44:48 AM
How long have you had it? When was the last time it was cleaned. It's easy enough to pop the fans off a machine and look through with a flashlight for any blockage. Give it a blow through with a can of compressed air if you see any blockages that aren't heatsinks that have fallen off.

If it's heatsinks or a damaged board you're gonna have to weigh your costs and/or decide if you can sort it out yourself. Sort of comes down to what it's going to cost to get it repaired (shipping, labor, parts) and what you expect to earn with that extra board mining. Without it the machine would still run but at reduced earnings and power consumption. If you think in the lifetime of the machine the repair will more than pay for itself, than definitely explore your repair options.

153  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betnomi Poker Series $1000 (OPEN to ALL) on: December 23, 2020, 07:31:06 PM
I think everything related to poker can still be discussed here if it only concerns sponsorship you should put that in the subject
You can think whatever you want that doesn't make it true.

I think people reading the OP and comprehending where they are posting is great. Clearly some disagree.
154  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betnomi Poker Series $1000 (OPEN to ALL) on: December 23, 2020, 07:07:56 PM
This isn't a betnomi discussion thread. This is about the tournament they sponsor for Forum users. Feel free to follow and join in as there are still qualifiers to be played.

155  Economy / Reputation / Re: AdkinsBET's reputation. Is something wrong? on: December 23, 2020, 07:02:29 PM
I legitimately wouldn't even know the Adkinsbet brand if they hadn't botched 2 very simple Customer Service issues. I'm glad those were resolved. The problem is when you fail to provide the simplest part of your service effectively, it leaves doubts. There are bookmaker issues which are simple fairly transparent and easy to solve, then there's ones that are difficult such as claims of multi-accounting. I like to look at each case separately and wait until I have a clear picture before I weigh in, but past experiences make it tougher to believe claims I can't dig into further to verify, due to a lack of good faith.

I'm not in any of their social media or active on their thread. The chorus that sounds off, almost cult like is concerning. I pretty much just ignored them as they don't add anything to any of the discussions. The problem is when there is no one with common sense participating in the thread, it can make all claims seem invalid. No matter how obvious it is that the company was not acting in good faith. I did ignore the "paid dog" comments as they weren't relevant to the claim at the time. I seem to recall him saying something about it being admitted. It kind of reminds me of when some low quality posters sig spam in the company thread "good project", just ramped up and aggressive.

Like I said to you previously. I held off on tagging them because eventually they did the right thing.
156  Economy / Reputation / @sempak Please say more about how this works... I do exist by the way on: December 23, 2020, 06:47:03 PM
2. Adkinsbet's customer service are not really helping the users. They are not handling it professionally I believe. Other day the user Steamtyme wrote some good  suggestions. Here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5299499.msg55838426#msg55838426
I will suggest Adkinsbet owner/admin to talk to their customer service team and give them proper training. Or maybe hire some people who are indeed experienced in handling customers bad attitude, are able to take the heats - at least make the customers happy when they are unhappy.
Not everyone is gullible here, Royse777. Many people will believe your stories, however I can see a very clear connection between your message and that of "Steamtyme"
I don't think I need to say anything else about how this works Wink

So as to not go off topic I've created this thread. Why? I saw my name, and felt possibly fictional.

So just to clarify the user Steamtyme does exist in some sense. The quotation marks seemed to leave that up for debate.

Let's hear it @sempak, as I'm fairly confused what you are going on about. Are their flaws in my logic where adkinsbet was previously concerned? Was I wrong in calling out how legitimate customers had been treated??

Or, were you just not sure I truly existed?
157  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Adkinsbet.com - PENDING WITHDRAWAL 10.000 EUR 24 hours on: December 21, 2020, 10:52:54 PM
OP this is definitely premature in a scam accusation. This is a significant amount to be withdrawing, and it clearly states in their TOS withdrawals will be processed within 72 hours, and that they are individually reviewed.

Quote
You can only withdraw the amount that is available in your account. There are no default limits for withdrawal requests.
Each player's withdrawal will be individually reviewed and processed accordingly. All withdrawals will be processed within 72 hours.

I can understand being nervous but in the future try looking into an issue or asking questions before posting in "scam accusations" this is where it escalated after timeframes are exhausted. I don't know what your communications have been but if they haven't requested any additional documents I don't see any reason it shouldn't be processed within the 72 hours from the time of request.
158  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Adkinsbet scamming me close to £2000 in winnings on: December 21, 2020, 03:07:38 PM
Glad to see this was resolved. I was asked to weigh in here and was not very impressed, but have erased that reply

@Adkinsbet - These cases are giving your company a lesson in how things spiral out of control. You can't control how the individual acts, only yourselves and that's what people will be looking back on in the future. Moving forward please try to resolve these issues consistently and in a timely manner, as these actions at first glance until solved have nearly resulted in your account receiving negative feedback reviews.
159  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betnomi Poker Series $1000 (OPEN to ALL) on: December 20, 2020, 11:38:52 PM
on pc I downloaded their software and it works perfectly , haven't tried the browser version except on mobile
any idea how to adjust betting size ? it starts with x2 BB and  it directly moves to x4 when I adjust the betting bar
Iirc you just need to go into settings from the landing page once it launches the poker client, then select bet slider. I played one of these a few weeks back from my phone and had to wait until the first break. I was able to set 4 buttons I believe each for pre and post flop betsizings.
160  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where to Buy Bitcoin Miners on: December 20, 2020, 07:57:45 PM
That was really useful bro, I really appreciate it. I just got a question if you don't mind me asking, which one is the official website for MicroBt Whatsminers. Is it https://whatsminer.net/ or https://www.microbt.com/?locale=en. Thanks again bro.
MicroBT miners can only be bought from their distributors. I haven't checked in with any in a while but here are the 2 official options https://whatsminer.net/ , https://pangolinminer.com

I've only bought from Pangolin in the past. If you check with them I wouldn't bother with their Telegram group better off emailing them any questions.
