641  Other / Archival / Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: May 12, 2020, 06:34:30 PM
This is just a landing page topic to discuss changes and preferences for the tournament series already running on SWC. I will Self-Mod this thread to keep the discussion relevant and between participants. This is separate from discussing specific tournaments and hands.

Hopefully doing it this way will allow us to gather all the ideas in one place and if we can come up with a consensus or majority whatever works best, then we can ask for changes. I would also like to suggest we make changes to a series before it starts and let it run it's course before requesting any other changes.

Bring it all. Seats at the table, Starting chips, Level duration. I thin k there has also been some debate about the overall tournament schedule and point system.
642  Economy / Reputation / Re: [ChipMixer] Assistant(s) to the Campaign Manager - Urgent meeting on: May 11, 2020, 08:26:51 PM
This sounds like "planned halving day stunt". In my wild guess, this could have been posted with the approval of DS_ as OP never returned to back them up.
No just a coincidence, I don't operate on that level of planning or forethought.  It fits well with me being the laziest of OP'S and letting sleep get in the way.
Everyone is so spoiled by LoyceV's ability to update OP'S regularly and coherently. It's an ability all the more terrifying when you realize they are a verified human.

Bahaha permission. So much easier to ask forgiveness.

Wait, what??
~snip~
Sorry for the confusion. This had nothing to do with the campaign itself. Just a good old stab at situational humor with a dash of great sitcom nostalgia.

The sarcasm was strong in this one, but sarcasm is easily lost across languages.
I'm like a sarcastic old dude with a public park bench. Things wander into my line of sight and I make jokes  Tongue

Glad to see @Csmiami notice "the office" references.

I urge everyone to come forward before theymos has to step in.
Someone should create new topic about chipmixer in meta and ask theymos to create separate board for chipmixer.
Maybe he will admin a new forum for the campaign. Worked for cryptotalk Roll Eyes

643  Economy / Reputation / [ChipMixer] Assistant(s) to the Campaign Manager - Urgent meeting on: May 11, 2020, 01:14:33 PM
It has to be said, and somewhere you can really speak your mind. It's become really clear really fast that the ChipMixer campaign is failing to meet desired quality standards. You know there is really only one person to blame. Darkstar has failed in their duties as regional Campaign manager as evidenced by it's run of a mere 156 week run... fuck me really... nevermind facts be damned.
The ship is clearly sinking and all you plugs you all have plugs for the holes. So please drop it all here in one easy to manage location to be sure it's seen and implemented. We wouldn't want these gems getting lost in a sea of useless applications for open slots. The only way to move up from Assistant to the Campaign Manager is to showcase how clearly superior you your genes and your managing style are. So drop it all here, we want your opinion on how shitty the selection of past participants has been, how poor their posting habits are along with what really counts as a forum contribution. Drain the swamp, and keep it clean - You've seen it DS sure can pick'em so help make their mind up by telling them who is the worst. Real clutch that one as there is clearly no thought into past posting habits or feedback, just a good old dart and a blindfold.

Now for anyone who wants to jump into this right at the top you can showcase the flaws at work here. If you know you were the best for the open slot speak up. Don't be a sucker and congratulate the successful candidate no no; you're the cream of the crop not some wimpy beta begging for the next spot. This was your spot and everyone should know how bad of a decision it was not to accept you.

I urge everyone to come forward before theymos has to step in. I'm pretty sure he's already reached out to ChipMixer to solve the problem, he can't resist settling these sorts of things. I'd hate to see him take measures to fix us in the same way he turned around yobit. We might not survive as I get the feeling we aren't even 1/10th as worthy.

644  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: After Jun 10, Bitmain will no longer repair these Antminers: S11, S9, T9+, etc.. on: May 11, 2020, 09:45:28 AM
I agree with Mikeywith. When i bought my t9+ it was still profitable but had a bad chain. They absolutely refuse to send you parts out of warranty and it would have doubled the purchase price of the miner to have them repair it.

Bitmain repair has always seemed like a shit service to me from the start. I must say I am shocked they didn't just raise their price for repair to an absurd amount so that most people wouldn't bother and they could still be greedy and grab every satoshi. Odds are they just don't have or want to stock parts for these models.

@Globbo

Don't worry if it doesn't make sense now. The more you read listen and even bring your own spots in for review the more you will understand and see how you can apply it to your game.

We all start somewhere just for reference here is how terrible i started... i still remember this that's how bad it was. Feel free to rofl.

So about 3-4 years ago when i was still just loading up 30 dollars here and there and playing on 888 i found myself in a spot where i was second in chips and at the table with the chip leader. For whatever reason i figured it was a good time to bluff hard. I had nothing maybe like a 9 high. The river comes and he jams... i again have nothing and could have easily folded out and loomed like i had a clue.
No i called... you read right had nothing, bet 2 streets with nothing and then called his jam.
Iirc he has flopped a straight or flush, and i just gave him my chips and tournament life.

Feel free to ask questions about what you don't understand whether it be terminology or our explanations. Hell look at the beginning of the thread where i was incorrectly referring to a limp strategy.
646  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: May 11, 2020, 08:06:13 AM
Oh damn drawing dead from the flop.  Blockers to both of their monsters that sucks. Sorry i read this the other day and forgot to come back for a reply. I get why it was hard to get away from it but you were down to maybe 24% of hitting a pair... not knowing it wouldn't help. I dont imagine you play this spot often, but in the future if it doesn't go all-in pre it has to be a fold in the flop. I don't think there are enough people bluffing that spot to justify it.

I will say for my own sanity lately i'm happy to see i'm analyzing and picking these spots apart better in a reciew... now to try and apply it to my own jammy tendencies. I will be bringing some spots back this week ... from the microstakes, last month pretty much wiped out all my profit from the last 3 months.

The gameplan is microstakes buy-in tournaments and satellites for low, medium buy-ins until i win my roll back. I've spent a few hours at work this week reviewing my strategy and training materials and then reading up on opposing theories to try and get out of my seemingly robotic play. I also have to start remembering the level and caliber of players in my pool, and stop playing as if they are thinking the same way I am.

Hopefully this helps me use the knowledge and strategies i've learned but gets me back to some of the core gameplay that i was using before i studied. Ideally i will be tightening up preflop, playing value more aggresively, and overall a slightly more faceup and less blanket hidden strategy.

**Sorry no quotes and replies tough on phone.

My thoughts on the reduced late reg were more to keep the tournament length roughly the same with a larger stack - i had also mentioned shorter levels to that effect. I completely get where everyone is coming from here and would be fine with something anywhere from no late reg to a 15 minute late reg. Lets face it there aren't hundreds of us joining, everyone knows where or when... well almost @sygambler  Wink

It really depends on peoples motivations most of us here want to have a good time, sure winning is great. If someone is going to angle they are going to angle. Hell right now it looks like you can reg not play and still get some points, not a great plan but possible.

For series tournaments here is my ideal structure.
Freezout - 2 level late reg - and 8 minute levels with a 7500 stack.

Either way see you guys next Saturday. I woke up about 20 minutes after late reg with my phone firmly muffled under my gut  Grin

Thanks Tykiwanuka

@BitcoinGirl.Club
You should pop back into my hand discussion thread to continue going over the hand you posted.  Would be nice to hear how it played out.

Well seeing as it's my last night shift coming up I'll try and set an alarm and join the game today, try and get us over 20.

I hadn't checked the thread out until last night but once again that is super generous of SWC to put out such an awesome prizepool addition.

Class act there Betwrong. Good luck all if I don't see you at the tables. If I do make it I won't be able to record today. Next week though I will try and do the same thing as last series.

Just saw tour post efialitis... damn that is a far 1 year bounty. Might just have to set 2 alarms lol.

Really appreciate your generosity leading up to this big event. Good luck everyone and stay safe.

I'm sorry to those that feel the need to discuss this... but what's the point. This forum for whatever reason has devolved into a place that feels the need to examine every aspect of a members life it seems... well beyond justified scammy behaviour investigations.

Beyond the fact that they were removed speculating on the reasoning is just insulting. Both members from what I've seen have made good contributions to the forum and provided advertising for a decent amount of time.

I wish you both the best, and good luck to those applying
652  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Hardware on 120V on: May 09, 2020, 09:30:00 AM
Yes for sure there is the added risk, but is still a viable option especially if they would like to breakeven in the end. It's been a while but I can't even remember off the top of my head what these are drawing now with the brains OS.
I know you've played around with a ton of these. I'm at work on my phone but I'm wondering if you can get 2 boards down around 800-900w. That would fit nicely on a 110 circuit. It's gotta be close depending on the model, but one of the 13.5TH units I think would get that low with 2 boards.
653  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Hardware on 120V on: May 08, 2020, 08:35:08 PM
Do you know what sort of circuits you have available and how close together they are?? When I first started out there were a lot of people running s9's on 110/120 by splitting the load across 2 circuits using 2 psu's. You should have a small sub panel in a closet or something that gives you an idea of how many circuits you have available.

Iirc they were mostly using PC psu's. I'll try and find some of the old threads as you had to be sure to power them on in a particular order ( based on which one is powering the control board)

Good luck with series 2 everyone. The structure just doesn't really allow me to take part... no biggie. I might try to come play the odd one but with my work schedule i am working every second weekend, so chasing a series final isn't really in the cards... not that 8 games helped last time  Grin

I'll keep an eye out and will try to join Saturday next week. I have to laugh though as the kids began to assume all dad does is play poker... and badly at that.  After last month it's hard to disagree. "You can be right and still lose" is a concept lost on my 8 year old  Grin
656  Other / Archival / Re: Let's talk Texas Holdem poker hands and how to play like a PRO? on: May 08, 2020, 01:02:05 AM
I disagree. The villain really just got lucky that figmentofmyass was dealt a QQ. We've discussed these spots before and after the limp-raise you are still pretty much flipping; sure maybe it's KK AA but it could be AK, JJ
So in that regard you can get away but if you fold out every time someone limp raises or 3-bets you with QQ you will lose a lot of value.
I think the villain played it terrible to be honest. Imagine only getting a call and not a raise from the hero. What do you do then, with this flop you again have to hope they hit a T or have an overpair. Long term it isn't a viable strategy unless it's done at a very low frequency. My AA looks the same as any other RFI I make, sometimes people fold around but when they don't I'm coming for them and not just when it's a cooler.

Just to note Hero called the all-in with an overpair to the board. It was the villain who jammed the flop.
657  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: May 04, 2020, 12:48:45 AM
in early position i'm usually raising first in and flatting a 3-bet, and calling from the blinds. in late position, i definitely prefer 3-betting to get marginal callers out of the pot. (or just steal it)
It's tough to figure out if over time it's +ev with the total of pots stolen and the times you come out on top, against just having to fold out against overpairs and bluffs. I'm curious what you do in a similar spot with a 3-bet that misses the flop, I'm not sure if your 3-betting KQs and there is an A high rainbow flop, or better yet if you hit a set. Looking at your post flop strategy for hitting; and incorporating it into your overall strategy might help keep bluffs out of the pot. It does put more chips out there to play some of these spots as if you got there but it should generate folds unless they have you beat. Then it also disguises those hands that hit so you get calls when you want them.

I also like going for Betting the flop, and checking turn (regardless if I improve) when I am OOP and there is an overcard. I do mix in a Bet/Bet as well but it's usually table/player dependent
here's a hand from earlier today. 9max tournament, but only 6 seated at the table. 50/100 blinds.

CO: Hero (5,574 in chips)
SB: Villain 1 (2,990 in chips)
UTG: Villain 2 (9,590 in chips)

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [Kh Ah]

Villain 2  raises 200 to 200
Hero raises 800 to 800
Villain 1 raises 2,880 to 2,980 and is all-in
Villain 2 calls 2,780
Hero?

a call would leave me 26 big blinds left with ~9k chips in the pot. AKs 6-handed is a tough fold, but what do you make of the preflop action?
So I was in a similar spot today, and after playing it out to me after I see where I misread the situation and again couldn't walk away from QQ pre. I probably still shouldn't have but you never know.

To me The Villain-2 choice to call and not try and isolate is a lure, he's giving good odds to come along or the illusion you can put him off the hand by jamming. Sometimes inexperienced players also do this, so it's tough to say which they are without playing a while with them. Personally in this spot I am probably going to want to jam pre... but I'm trying to get away from that especially if you can see a flop in position. I would call and evaluate afterwards, as you said you would still have 26BB behind and could choose to check jam or bet jam, or worst case walk away and wait for a better spot. Not just because of the UTG possibly bating, and not likely to fold for the rest of your stack, but the BB jamming into both of you suggests a pocket pair maybe the same hand as yourself.

658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: May 02, 2020, 10:43:33 PM
donk betting, there's a thought. it's never been in my toolbox really, but i may try mixing it in.
I can't remember where I was watching someone talk abou thow they had begun throwing it in when they were in a tough spot they weren't sure of. They said live they found it to often confuse their opponent. I use it every now and then OOP, when there is 1 broadway on the flop. It's a gamble as to them hitting that broadway if not pocket pairs but it looks like I'm trying to protect something week. I will also mix this in with very strong holdings that hit in the same instance if I didn't 3-bet preflop.
indeed it's these OOP hands that are toughest---barrelling creates huge pots and checking invites bluffs. sometimes i wonder if i should stop 3-betting TT/JJ so much preflop (at least OOP)......but then i flat and end up in a 3 or 4-way pot, terrible in terms of equity.
Personally I wouldn't be 3-betting TT/JJ especially if I'm going to be OOP like SB or BB. I'm probably the worst for advice on 3-betting as I don't think I do it enough, especially later tournaments. I generally stick to AQs+, KK+,AKo and then mix in some 55,66,77 and some low to mid suited connectors. This makes it a lot easier to decide to throw away cards post flop if they don't connect, or continue to barrel while balancing everything out nicely.

Now one bustout I had a few days ago, that I can't find on ACR. It didn't seem to show up was a similar spot. I was torn on whether or not to 3-bet this pre, but I elected to try and get more callers as I was only 23 BB deep. Me and UTG=1 have similar stacks and BB has more than double

UTG+1 leads 2BB, I call from Cutoff with QQ, and the BB calls.

Flop is 8,9,Q rainbow - Original raiser checks and I bet out 3BB into a pot of roughly 8BB, BB raises to 9BB, original raiser folds. Now there isn't a flush draw out there but I don't like the idea of seeing any more cards for a chance to get to the straight, so I elect to fast play this hand sitting with top set. Jam all in and he calls. Runout didn't help.

FFS he shows TJ off. Reasonable call from BB given the price, so that's why I feel I might have benefited from a 3-bet pre.

I was re-reading one of my posts from earlier after a nice finish. It helped as I've been really focusing on the negatives lately, keeping track of bad beats/loss streaks or counting cooler spots. When these happen earlier in a tourney it seems okay and I still manage to play a reasonable game afterwards. Definitely worse when it's a bubble scenario and puts me out as it leaves me to stew until the next game. It hasn't been anything crazy but it has been a worse month though especially considering the volume I put in. I guess I should take comfort in the fact that most if not all spots are expected plays and it I'm just losing flips.

We will see how it goes I have a few tourneys lined up tonight, and the wife cleared me to play tomorrow so I might take a stab at one of those long ass massive entry pool tournaments tomorrow. Been a while with all the series tournaments so it might be a nice change of pace. Then I'll be away from the tables for a week while I'm back at work.
659  Other / Archival / Re: Let's talk Texas Holdem poker hands and how to play like a PRO? on: May 02, 2020, 03:37:16 PM
Just got ruined with AA on my hand. Other player played ALL-IN with AK without the flop was 10,J,8. The turn was 3, I went ALL-IN, the fucking river was Q, I was just ruined all of my fund in that board. Damn.
These are shitty spots and something you will run into. What sort of betsizing did you use on the Flop and Turn?? Considering it wasn't all in pre-flop you might have been able to fold them off their AK with larger bets... some people just don't fold and it AA can't always win.

For me AA this past week has been shit. I am 1 for 7, and that 1 was just because it folded around pre.(77, QQ, T6s to name a few of the monsters that beat me) This morning with Coffee I sat down at SWC and would up just playing a heads-up match. They weren't very difficult an oponnent so I was raking in Blinds fairly well , and get a little value here and there. Then It comes AA so I RFI 2.5 BB, They then 3-bet me to 8BB, I make it 22BB and they Jam. I quickly call

I have AA opponent brings QQ, and the first card on the flop I shit you now it a Q. They win and I'm no longer enjoying poker with my coffee. I know it can't keep on like this but losing these massive pots and hands is really starting to suck. This is now my worst cash game hand of the week, replacing my Flush draw where I had J high flush lost to Q high flush.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining: Why choose Solo or Pool? on: May 01, 2020, 09:26:45 PM
Pls,  you have gone deeper in this your comment and its good I and other people who love knowledge know more about some of what you said.
How do we explain constructing , mining and hashing as it relates to mining?
You also said that the equipment used by both solo and pool miners are thesame then how do pool miners achieve better results than the solo miners?
You are misunderstanding the core concept of mining. It isn't a simple choice of I will solo and make close to the same as if I joined a pool.

For example there is a pool that runs about 10PH at the moment they haven't hit a block in a couple months. There is no guarantee they will hit a block before the halving so in this instance there is a lot of lost potential earnings. Mining with a pool ensures you a more steady consistent payout stream - this can differ if you are PPS or PPLNS or any variation in between. You take a smaller cut of a lot more blocks to get a steady payout whereas you can gamble and go for the entire block solo and wind up doign really good or having nothing at all, there is no in between.

As for the gear used mining BTC everyone one is using some variation of an asic miner and trying to do it as efficiently and inexpensively as possible.

Further than that thre is no need to understand all the jargon going on behind the scenes in mining to be an "authority"  in crypto. You just have to understand what you are talking about and be able to explain it at different levels for different users. I have been mining for nearly 3 years now and I can't tell you anything useful about the math behind the scenes or even an accurate and useful definition of transaction selection for blocks. I do though have a decent cursory knowledge on the subject and can generally explain the overall rather well.
