1141  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Summer Mining - Home miner on: October 29, 2019, 08:52:04 AM
Well this season is done. I hate the fall for the fact that I can't find a stable temperature. A few days ago it was to warm to have anything in my house, then all of a sudden it's to cold to keep everything running in the garage under the summer setup. So my quick stop gap was to remove the miners from the slab floor in the garage place them on a 1/2 inch insulation board, and flip 1 of my M10's around to actually heat the garage - outside of the soundproofing setup. So far so good, no more issues. I also choked off half of my air intake as cooling is no longer an issue. For reference outside temperatures have been dropping down to ~ -4C

So within the next couple days I will reopen The winter mining setup, which will be a significant improvement in sound dampening. Seeing as Whatsminer hasn't come out with a LPM mode for the M20S and I like to gamble with my wife's patience lol. I also have a new to me PDU on order so I can break out the 741's that have been collecting dust the last few months.
1142  Economy / Gambling discussion / Opinions on Upswing Poker tutorials or Lab? on: October 29, 2019, 08:42:59 AM
Like the title says, I'm looking for peoples opinions on the courses offered or even the Subscription lab. These courses aren't cheap but I've been toying with the idea of dropping a few bucks on 1 or even registering for the lab to up my game a little. I've been a recreational player for a few years, and have had good runs and bad streaks like most. I know I've been lacking in my study and discipline, so I could definitely benefit from a few specified tutorials or the general lab, more likely. Researching things I've seen if I contact them I can also pay with BTC, as Doug is a fan of crypto. So I could theoretically pay for it out of my savings/hold bag.

I'll add that I'm aware some people sell offer them at a discount on the forum but I'm not that trusting.
1143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [What IF] Part 3 on: October 29, 2019, 08:35:19 AM
What if,... you suddenly get a jackpot but it wasn't meant to be given to you, and it was mistakenly transferred to your account (CryptoWallet) ? What would you do? 🤔🤨
Are you gonna run with it and leave the account? Or be a good samaritan? Come on. Don't be so foolish let's be honest!🤣
For me:
1. I might take it for we are anonymously players.
Must say I'm surprised at this. Would you feel the same if the site found a discrepancy that cost you a jackpot? I doubt it, you would expect them to come clean and make things right. Regardless of whether or not they offer an honesty reward, you should make them aware of the issue and return the funds. Theft by omission is still theft in my mind. It doesn't look good on them to make a mistake like that, but rest assured they would find the mistake, and then go looking for the funds.
If not clear by my response I would return the funds, not because I couldn't use a free win in life but because it falls well outside my personal morals.
1144  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miners for Sale from our customers - TeslaWatt on: October 29, 2019, 05:37:02 AM
Could be a good deal. Are you able to add more information for the miners like run time (months/weeks used), and price for each model. Even just a range depending on how many are up for sale. You may also want to include a snippit about your hosting fees, it could encourage people to extend the contracts. Good luck with the sale.
1145  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie welcome video on: October 28, 2019, 07:37:35 PM
Appreciate it man. I have a few nightshifts to bang out then I'll likely have one or two more of these up this week. My "recording studio" or corner of basement to some is about to become home to my miners again so I'd like to get more done before then.
1146  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie welcome video on: October 28, 2019, 09:34:26 AM
Here is an updated version of the video I placed the link in the OP. It is under 6 minutes and I think it still delivers the message. I put in a few timestamps but they aren't linked, still have to sort that out. I will work on the next videos soon, still not sure which order I will go.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nT5HPhO2MA8&t

Edit: I believe I figured out how to create a link to timestamps accidentally. The best kind of learning. So I will update the description soon.
1147  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 50 million from investors to create a massive mining farm in Texas on: October 25, 2019, 08:31:59 PM
That may be the case. I've never had to deal with the tariffs but I sure wouldn't gamble 10's or 100's of thousands on that. Especially when they can backdate and go after previous purchases.

I remember when they first went into effect and asked Canaan I believe if there was a way around the tarriffs by building or assembling elsewhere. I don't recall exactly what the response was but it seemed cost prohibitive for what could be a shortlived policy. So odds are you would need to be shelling out much more than a few million in gear, and who knows the quality from a brand new thrown together facility.
1148  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NovaBlock, The Most Profitable Mining Pool on: October 25, 2019, 03:09:01 AM
The earnings that show as your reward are just that your daily pps+ payout based on hashrate minus the 2.5% fee. Not sure what else you are looking for, it's not like when a pplns pool finds a block and they break it down as a per block reward

I wonder how many people already scrolled passed it without realising they found it.
Probably everyone
What? That might make my head explode lol. Can't wait until someone finds it, even if it's not me just dying to find out where it is.

Here is the one I found, which wasn’t accurate:
I thought the same for a bit. Then there was the hand drawn wizard from the collaboration piece. If nothing else I've seen a ton of cool stuff I never knew existed.

Wow. Thought you would have announced an answer before I woke up. Lost track of time searching yesterday, guess I'll get back to it in a couple hours.

Happy hunting everyone.

You guys that can't read or speak Chinese are just sooooooo out of the loop.
well I would say maybe stick to 1 language so you can easily differentiate between 2 stories.
https://www.theblockcrypto.com/linked/43950/bitmain-opens-a-large-crypto-mining-farm-in-texas
That article points out your Bitmain facility and at the end discusses what my OP referenced. A seperate group that backed Layer-1 for a facility with land inside the city. No mention of them partnering with bitmain
1153  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: M20S Overclock on: October 23, 2019, 02:27:53 PM
How many watts are it using with 67TH ?

This was for the 65 TH model, but gives an alright example of what to expect when considering advertised specs. There is always some variation - [Review] Whatsminer M20S 65 TH.

I would prefer this gear to do 60th and use 2900 watts. I have three of them and have large fans blowing air on them. Since I fear they will over heat.

I didn't run into any issues this summer it was a cooler one though, nothing higher that 34C. I do poke every now and then looking for LPM to be added, especially as I do want to place this in the basement in a couple weeks. Worst case I just have to go extra hard on the soundproofing.
1154  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie welcome video on: October 23, 2019, 01:56:44 PM
~snip~ in 2019 most of internet users are able to manage the standard basic features of a SMF forum I think, and if they aren't there are few chances they will understand/like what a cryptocurrency is...
It would be useful to also explain how new people have to manage a ban of their proxy/vpn/ip range. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;unproxyban
You could also talk about the captcha bypass code https://bitcointalk.org/captcha_code.php
You would be amazed, this is the first and pretty much only forum I've ever participated in. Most of what I've learned was picked up by quoting others posts to see how they did things. I will likely put a text bubble in with a link if possible or a description about the IP bans, I'm not sure how many people it affects but it could be helpful. I'll try and find a good spot to link to for that. Same for Captcha bypass. Thanks
~snip~If I would make such video, probably I would describe basics in few words and then would give directions to other my separate videos where I everything in more detail. For example things like rules, trust system, merits and other stuff can be explained in short separate videos.
Anyway, I'm wondering how newbies can find this video. So far there is only less than 60 views. Maybe it can be uploaded to one of sticky topics?
It's funny you say that. The redo is going to have a 30 second to 1 minute video describing the project and linking to the first video, as time goes on I'll edit in links to the others. All in all , I figure it will take me a few weeks to put together these planned videos and redo them to incorporate suggestions.
~snip~Especially if it's monetised I prefer a 10-15 minute video it's probably the size of the videos I watch.
I don't really understand the youtube Ad space. I know I have the option to monetize videos but if that's what causes Ads to be placed throughout the video, not worth it. I threw down some donation addresses and if they never see anything not really a big deal. I really just want at least one person at some point to find these useful in getting started or understanding the systems around them better.

If you get a basic idea of some points I'd be happy to see if I can add any more to them or discuss the ones you have if you want a second opinion (I normally use telegram to discuss things with people on here but I haven't configured a username)...
I'll keep that in mind. I might just keep it going in this vein though where I produce a video, take the critiques and then redo the video. Feel free to reach out anytime with ideas or points you would like to see in any of the planned future videos.

On that note, I didn't get around to making the remaking this video yet, should have something up by Sunday, as I'm back on shift and have a bit of travel to do this weekend.

Wow. Many thanks Yahoo I was more than glad to just lend a hand. Here is an address to send my portion - bc1q4yrpya2fxvqad6pz0xwqjhchg0mr9pzu7plp2q
This is going towards the video project I have on the go. Like I said before whenever I have time and someone needs a hand I'm all ears.
1156  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 50 million from investors to create a massive mining farm in Texas on: October 22, 2019, 06:46:54 PM
2nd due to the tariffs the equipment is going to be more (miners)
4th  and this is a big one, it's not even started yet

Yeah I wondered about the tariffs myself, unless they are hoping that it won't be a concern in the future. A stupid gamble if that's the case but who knows. Likely they would be trying to offset it with a large volume order bringing down initial purchase price. I couldn't find anything about timelines for the project, so it was weird to see some of their available capacity but nothing else. I agree it seems risky but some people were willing to put millions behind it so they must have some sort of a gameplan.

Yeah I remembered this last year, and initially thought it might have been the same project. I just assumed it had been a false report last year when it seemed nothing was materializing. I guess Jihan had just wasted to much money last year.

3) Immersion isn't really "new" people have been talking about it since 2013, now it's getting more reasonable price wise with advancements in the tech.
4) I can make more with last gen equipment than new gen equipment, this is based on other factors than just efficiency and price of equipment but they do play a part.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be immersion or what their plan is. If it's an attempt at a new way of doing things I would venture something like geothermal for being able to cool your intake air. Enough tunnels and fins especially on a new build and it could be done. I saw something a year or so ago, that was a more efficient swamp cooler, essentially a waterwall or something that didn't raise the humidity, it was neat but I couldn't get may details on it. I agree on the buying of gear, I imagine it would be a hard sell to investors on buying used gear, so they would still be hit with tariffs but would likely be sourcing S9's from Bitmain while they are still available. Especially if the power costs are dirt cheap.
1157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Misconceptions about Bitcoin and Altcoins on: October 22, 2019, 06:31:44 PM
I quickly realized I was wrong and that you do not have to be a genius to use the technology.
It's funny the first time I bought BTC I being a DIY'er I looked into mining and thought there is no way I can grasp the concepts going on. The more I read the further I found BTC to be way out of my depth, combined with my lack of understanding some of the more basic concepts I felt it wasn't for me. So I bought some, made my purchase and forgot about it for a few years. Glad I tooki a lot more time to dig into things in 2017.
Correct me if I'm wrong, is that the UTXO the one you consolidating to one, right?
For consolidating I was just referring to combining your inputs like you have mentioned so that when fees are higher you have already taken steps to reduce the inputs that might make up your transaction.
The purpose of the thread here though, isn't to get to bogged down in the specifics of this, that's why I referenced another thread where it is discussed. This is just simply about anything that might have been a barrier or a mistake that people had to learn from or overcome when entering crypto.
Understanding dynamic fees is a big one as well, a lot of people can't grasp that at times if you don't need to send BTC, you can wait a day or 2 maybe even a couple hours and save. This is a good example of things people often misunderstand.
This is why choosing good wallets to use is important.
This part here fits nicely when elaborated on, not all wallets are the same. Especially when looking at an online wallet or non custodial wallets like exchanges.
