1022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / It's hard to spend Crypto - Make adopters out of entrepreneurs on: November 29, 2019, 11:13:33 PM
So I'm gearing up for a bit of a road trip and will be passing through a couple major centers in my country. Now I seem to recall a few years back especially leading into the 2017 FOMO that quite a few retail outlets had started taking BTC, LTC and maybe a few others. There are articles going back a few years where there were some restaurants that had adopted the practice as well. Now I don't know how many of them set up their own wallets, or if they used a gateway service to convert crypto and be paid in FIAT. The problem is this is on the steep decline, and it doesn't seem like retail is interested. I am struggling to find a shop I can show up and pay for something with crypto.

I get it if large retailers aren't interested. Why would they it's more work for them and training. However a small business running with minimal staff could esaily adopt the practice. Ideally they would manage their own wallet and become a coiner themselves. Hell even just holding back 3-5% in the coins themselves and converting the rest would be a nice step in the right direction.

Personally I'm hoping to have a convo or 2 with any small shop I stop in at just to see what their thoughts are on the matter. It will be a small percentage that might be interested, but I feel entrepreneurs in general to be the sort that would jump into this. I'm not giving up and have a lead on a couple spots that I might be able to make this happen, if so I'm hoping to get some insight from the owners about how they got into it and why they stayed with it.

Side note I do think I found a furniture store a few hours away from me that takes payment in Crypto. I'll be trying to find out more about them as well.
1023  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can a big dump render Bitcoin unusable because of the mining difficulty? on: November 29, 2019, 10:58:29 PM
Though admittedly if they did it wouldn't be the first time. I'm still working on recovering from the sales and savings hit from last year's dick-swinging contest price dive.

Yeah that was a shit show, but more like a testicle wave and a tantrum. While it F'd things up confused people and was just a ridiculous end to a 1 year partnership before the true visions began to differ. I'm thinking people without any self interest involved flat out dumping on the market. There are large amounts of concentrated coins out there, luckily most people who have wealth want to retain and grow it.

We witnessed bitmain try this in spring of 2018  maybe the moron Wu will try it again.  Have to wait and see.

Some people do continue to try the same tactics over and over. I don't bother but is he still all in on BCH? Would be hilarious to be in a boardroom with him walking back in leading out with, "So I want to circle back to BCH and really sell it this time"

I for one would love to find out just how much gear is in China mining.  Has to be over 33% of the network.

I some USA and some Canada mines that add to over 15% of the network. So I guess more then 33% maybe as much as 66% of the hash is in China.

That would be interesting to find out. Ideally not when I'm trying to send out coins. I was always confused by the fact that we still only average global hashrate based on block solve times. I just assumed there was a way to track hashrate more specifically to at least attempt to pinpoint where it's actually distributed. I guess we can wait for the Chinese government to launch it's own SHA-256 coin and "convince" the people to mine it.
1024  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So, What did you buy with your bitcoins on Black Friday? on: November 29, 2019, 09:49:02 PM
I wholeheartedly recommend spending some BTC as often as you can with merchants willing to accept it. I haven't bought anything with BTC this weekend, I'd love to but no one that has something I want/need is accepting crytpto. If they do by chance their prices far outweigh the deal to be had elsewhere - I'm in no spot to just spend extra because I want to use my coins. I am however selling coins to users on the forum, as I think that's the next best thing keeping an active and robust P2P network available here.

I have done both spend a decent chunk and watch a large price run-up, as well as hold and watch 20-30% price drop. I've also seen the better side as well and watched the value of my coins grow in spending power. Best bet is to spend as needed where you can but roll some Fiat back into coins and/or always have a savings bag off to the side for the future.

Funny thing I was holding coins to wait for Black Friday deals on items I wanted. The price drop nearly wiped the savings out in the end lol.
1025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is this a scam? on: November 29, 2019, 08:34:30 PM
Again I don't use the platform, but the lack of negative ratings is a plus. They appear to have recent trades but with minimal messages left. I clicked sell just to see what rates they are giving and it seems to good to be true. So I wouldn't risk it, now that might just be me not being familiar with the site, maybe it changes when you try to engage them in a trade. I wouldn't risk it, I would try my earlier suggestion and find someone on forum who wants to do this.

Edit: You are also outside their trade limit of a minimum 500 USD. If you only want 300
1026  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is this a scam? on: November 29, 2019, 08:22:22 PM
the thing is that i need to get 300$ worth of amazon gift card in the next day / 2 its important
i already have 500$ in my amazon account and need 300$ more to get a new phone
i am looking to get amazon gift card for around 70%-80%
.com to israel
I got yah. I just don't think you are being reasonable in your expectation to get it at a 20-30% discount. You are only going to find scammers and lose far more going that route. I'd have to look but there are reputable sites that do it at a near 1:1 ratio for some cards, so that might be your best bet. Most users will likely be looking to get a small percentage to provide the service, so you'll have to decide what works for you and your timeframe
1027  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is this a scam? on: November 29, 2019, 08:12:07 PM
Well I've never used the site so I don't really know the ins and outs. Looks weird they talk about amazon gift cards but place an itunes image. They do state you should release the funds after use of the card. So really you shouldn't have to take on any risk there, if you buy and use the card balance immediately.

The last review though states they were sold a used card, which means they are likely waiting for the chance to scam. Offer sounds fishy, and these cards are all likely the result of them scamming someone else to begin with if they are actually honoring this deal.

Edit:
so what do you suggest?
i need amazon gift card to buy a new phone
i dont have a credit card
only bitcoin
Why not go to currency exchange or Services and create a thread that you are looking to sell BTC for an amazon gift card, or for someone to buy and reship for you with you paying in BTC. You will likely have to go first as your account doesn't have a lot of history, also be careful who you deal with. What country are you trying to buy from and ship to?
1028  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is this a scam? on: November 29, 2019, 08:00:49 PM
No idea. Only because I'm not about to click on just some random link. Try typing out a description of what you think is a scam what the link is supposed to direct to. You know any sort of relevant information.

1031  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [GUIDE] Never Trade Physical Without Proper Backup ! on: November 29, 2019, 02:28:52 PM
The same rules apply if you have ever bought or sold anything of value P2P. A lot of the early stories I would read or the Agency takedowns of money transmitters, could easily replace crypto with drugs or decades ago alcohol during prohibition.

Never do a trade if you have a bad feeling.
If you know the tricks, nothing will happen, you learn to sort the bad guys out even before any meeting happenes.
This is probably the best advice for dealing in anything. Trust your gut when it comes to not feeling comfortable. I also like the parts about splitting this into smaller transactions especially until you get more familiar with people you want to deal with face to face. I would also add to only have the amount you agreed to sell in the wallet you intend to use, with enough to cover the fee.
1032  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can a big dump render Bitcoin unusable because of the mining difficulty? on: November 28, 2019, 10:29:58 PM
People and businesses don't react that quickly, for this to be any sort of a catastrophic even it would need to crash at the beginning of an adjustment period. Even then a large portion of the Global hashrate is split between a few companies and businesses with a large vested interest in BTC carrying on through any hiccup.
If it runs slower for 8 days and comes out successful it can be claimed as a win for weathering the storm. Could someone try and push a Fork that's running or a new one at that time definitely but that would be a massive disruption far worse than a large drop in hashrate. If people where concerned about this they would likely have looked into the DGW adjustments that a lot of small cap coins move to when they get hit with a hashrate pump and dump.
Back to the large companies that are heavily vested in Bitcoin, they would do anything and everything to keep the system plugging along as fast as they could at that time. Allowing it to just crawl and build FUD would only hurt them in the end. Unless some really large bag holders get into a pissing match and want to watch the world burn, I think their self preservation of wealth will keep price and the network robust.

1034  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Help me to find best cloud mining on: November 28, 2019, 09:10:52 PM
Smart decision. The only time I've seen cloud mining work out for someone was when they caught a sale from Bitdeer… or whatever Bitmains cloudmining service is now. Even then it was a slim profit over just buying and holding coins.

In the future Cloud mining questions belong on the Service Discussion board, as it's a service and not actually BTC mining.

1037  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: buying mining hardware from Sesterce.com on: November 27, 2019, 02:30:13 AM
I wouldn't buy from them. What miner are you looking for? There are loads of better options that don't seem to have selectively ripped people off or sent out used looking gear. I always suggest starting off at the manufacturer, then authorized distributors. I also suggest checking out the forum for what you want. Marketplace->Goods->Computer Hardware is a good place to post WTB, or look for someone selling. There are also a few brokers there that can help source larger purchases.

I get that companies have to start somewhere, but if they've already had to re brand that's a terrible sign.

There are bitcointalk.org threads where I saw the originator saying the problem is resolved but I saw many people giving good and bad reviews about the site.
Yeah unfortunately there are no details how it was resolved, but I tend to give far more weight to the negative reviews a company has received when I look into them. Keep up your due diligence and don't rush into something.
1038  Other / Meta / Re: Should we report questions that can be easily answered? on: November 27, 2019, 02:19:03 AM
While we test the bounds here pretty often, I still believe there are no dumb questions. this is subjective of course as I might think it's dumb but they may think they have a legitimate need to ask it. I'm not going to pretend there aren't crazy amounts of techniques out there to up ones post count, most of these are just people asking a question without looking or being unable to find the answer by not looking hard enough.

Personally I tend to answer any question I can, then take the time to find a link to the answer. That or I link them to the correct page so they can find it themselves. Regardless of how stupid or lazy something seems to us this is a place for discussion and learning, so it makes sense for people to treat some threads like a Customer Service Chat or a general inquiry thread. Then there's the ones doing it maliciously or as a troll, you can't really distinguish between them most of the time, but I'd rather help some and waste time with the others knowing it assisted someone who needed it.

To answer your question, report it and see how it works out. Just don't go crazy until you can see how the Mods interpret those reports. A bad report here and there doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

Yay caught one. Please and thank you
1040  Other / Meta / Re: @Admin there is a glitch in the merit system if you refresh the page on: November 26, 2019, 01:11:31 PM
This was a known issue. I believe the fix was that you couldn't send the same merit transaction immediately through a timeout period. Going out for  a smoke would put you past that I'm sure. I can't think of where this was posted, but it used to happen frequently.

Edit: Here is a post it's 60 seconds that the timeout prevents a double send.
