1041  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Almost there (Hero Member) hoping to reach it before 2020 starts. on: November 26, 2019, 10:47:15 AM
Good luck on your goals. I'll just point out try not to focus on them so much in a timeframe. It can be tough but as soon as you set a date to it, when it's arguably out of your control you can find it stressful. That or you could doubt the quality of your posts or the value of your contributions. I would say having the goal of achieving a hero member rank is enough, it shows a desire to contribute and improve.

I think this is more of a reputation thread personally, as it's about your goals and opinions. Just my thoughts.
1042  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcasino.io complaint - Am I Wrong? on: November 26, 2019, 09:38:25 AM
The complaint here doesn't center around the losses. So I'll just leave it to adult doing adult things with their money. If they advertise that these "milestones" existed and you can prove it - it has to be mentioned that they were active and available for that Legendary level. Then you are correct.

The key is you have to be able to prove it. So if this is true, create a scam accusation instead, or Flag about them violating the contract. People will look over the evidence and support it or oppose it based on what you present. Secondly if you feel riped off go to another site and gamble. You play with a fairly large stack and cash is the only thing that a site like this will be looking at. Is it worth them withholding 500-2000 USD when you are losing 12000 USD, not really and they may try to make this right with you.

These are really the only steps you have available. Personally I would pull my bankroll immediately and then contact them again.
1043  Other / Meta / Re: [BCT FACT] Bitcointalk was originally on Bitcoin.org but ... drama on: November 22, 2019, 03:24:19 PM
Haha less than a 2 hour stint as a global Mod. Interesting to know that the forum and Bitcoin have been declared dead for nearly the same amount of time.
What can I say I applaud the commitment you "old timers" have put into this space.
1044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 22nd November 2009. Satoshi created a forum called "Bitcointalk". 10 Years ago. on: November 22, 2019, 08:26:11 AM
I would have to say the coolest thing about this decade is how relevant this forum still is. For many it's the first place they land to learn about BTC, whether it be mining buying or hell even to learn about ALTS. Then when you look back and see all the big names that are out there now and where they started from years ago. There are accounts here from Bitmain, Ver, Charlie Lee (still active), some have a better reputation than others. Then you have folks that never left, I look at Kano, Ck in the mining sections.

Personally I'm just glad that there have been times I've been able to leave my mark on the forum and that's it's been a positive. Looking forward to sticking around for years to come.
1045  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Verify wallets before installing and using. Don't do this, you'll lose your fund on: November 22, 2019, 08:18:36 AM
It's funny I've been reading through a lot on this lately, and actually stumbled across a pretty good thread a few days ago, can't find the link right now. I like that you mentioned verify the gpg4win software, there was a video from a few years back I was watching and he brought up what I was thinking when I got into verify mode. It's sort of the chicken and the egg conundrum as he put it - Crypto Dad or something like that. Only suggestion is that if it's available do the initial download on a PC, that doesn't contain anything sensitive from the start. Just in case.
1046  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Canada - Canmore, Calgary, Regina - Seeking stores to pay with Crypto on: November 22, 2019, 01:25:10 AM
Welcome to Calgary! As far as I'm aware, we don't have many Bitcoin accepting retail stores/restaurants. Besides the two that were mentioned (and I'm not entirely sure they actually still accept it), the Electronics Recycling Association accepts Bitcoin if you're looking for some older refurbished computer hardware  Tongue
Thanks, I'm not there yet. 2 weeks and I'll be rolling through. It's been around 10 years since the last time I passed through on the way to Banff. I will definitely look int the ERA as I will be looking for a cheap Laptop, my daughter needs it for this Coder Dojo program the local library runs. Found out the one we were using no longer charges and isn't worth repair  Tongue

I have seen the Costco thing and will look into it, they say they are available in Manitoba as well, but I'm going to call to be sure. Might get in late as we pass through Calgary so I don't want to hinge on being able to get there before close.
1047  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful with security! I learned my lesson. on: November 22, 2019, 12:49:34 AM
Hey sorry to here. I documented my own recent Fuck up in regards to keeping my coins safe. I wasn't anywhere near the 20K mark, but it stings non the less. Good on you for sharing your info, and moving forward please secure things better. There is tons of information out there on how to keep all of that information as safe as possible, as well as multiple backups you can use. Hopefully you are in a situation where you can rebuild, form here. Don't dwell on it is the best advice I can give, just learn from it.
1048  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Canada - Canmore, Calgary, Regina - Seeking stores to pay with Crypto on: November 22, 2019, 12:42:01 AM
Yeah I know a few Canadians on the forum, not irl or personally. Just seemed weird to ask them pointedly, as some people could take that as trying to narrrow down where they live. So if people share that info with me cool, if they share info about places they found on their travels awesome too. I'm not to keen on checking out a lot of other forums, or boards- recent poor experience just makes it not worth my time. Figured there would be a good chance if there are any shops that fit this description, someone here might know. If not I do have 2 so far that I might be able to try and out that would be pretty cool.
I am surprised at how few I'm finding though, unfortunately I think it's fallout from 2018,2019 prices. A lot of these businesses probably jumped in during the ATH run-up and might have felt burned by the decreases afterwards. We'll see how it plays out, and if I buy something cool with BTC, I'll spread the word.

Edit: Just to ad, PM me if you have a suggestion but don't want to share any info publicly.
1049  Economy / Speculation / Re: Never below 10K again... well that didn't stick - Food for thought on: November 22, 2019, 12:35:41 AM
I agree with the sentiments of people regarding the words "never" it's crazy to think like that in a market where individuals hold thousands of coins. They honestly can do as they please with the market and people are just subject to dealing with it.
I really only wrote this as for a while I was really getting into trying to learn more about TA, but have sort of lost the desire. It was more for thesake of learning than anything, as I'm not overly concerned with the price day to day, hell even month to month. I gripe a bit here or there if I sell/buy something right before a run-up, but funnily enough don't care as much when I'm on the right side of things.
I'm definitely more in favor of slow reasonable growth that make sense, it really only benefits a small segment of users when things start to swing 15-40% in short frames. I guess that could be that I don't really hold much, nor do I have much in the way of Fiat to inject into building my reserves up. I've sort of moved to a small amount of people who actually try to talk about news and businesses and the perceived impact whether negative or positive for the overall environment.
I will admit I did sort of get sucked into the idea that this was going to be something similar to 2017 on a smaller scale. I wasn't excited about it though, I would have sold some and waited to buy back in. If it never dropped I would have just carried on holding the mining rewards. I still find myself talking to people about why I am involved with BTC, and they always bring up the perceived loss of value from the ATH, without an understanding of the FOMO that drove it. They tend to just think I'm on the kool-aid or something.
1050  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Canada - Canmore, Calgary, Regina - Seeking stores to pay with Crypto on: November 21, 2019, 02:23:31 PM
Thanks for that, I saw the same post but missed the Matador Pizza and Steakhouse. It definitely might be a contender, on one leg of the journey depending on our timing as we pass through. Good advice to contact them first, would suck to put in some extra leg work and not be able to use BTC. Hell with delivery I could work something out where they meet us as we pass through the City, lol.
1051  Economy / Service Discussion / Canada - Canmore, Calgary, Regina - Seeking stores to pay with Crypto on: November 21, 2019, 11:49:35 AM
So I am going to be taking a roadtrip in early December. These are a few of the places I will be passing through or staying at for a couple days. I'm just curious if anyone out there knows of some restaurants, eateries, retail outlets that accept BTC/LTC for payments.

I figured this would be a cool way to try and utilise crpto in day to day transactions. Google has been no help, mostly just points me to ATM's. I'm not interested in that or in loading up a card to convert to a FIAT payment. Ideally I see myself stopping at a restaurant, ordering up my food, paying and eating while it confirms. That or depending on the store picking up a few odds and ends. So far I saw an older article about a candy shop in Canmore I think accepts crypto, if so that's where some gifts will be bought.

Just thought this would be a fun twist on a roadtrip. I also won't bother loading much coin in my mobile wallet if there is next to no chance I'll be able to spend it.

Side note if you are in Canmore/Banff or Calgary and have Lift tickets for Sunshine Village(Big 3) at a discount rate, let me know.
1052  Economy / Speculation / Never below 10K again... well that didn't stick - Food for thought on: November 21, 2019, 11:18:41 AM
There are no price predictions here it's just something I've been thinking on a lot in the last month or so. During the last price run-up, countless predictors and TA personalities were saying this over and over. Once we close over 10K you'll never see a 4 digit BTC again. Well here we are 2 months later and we are below 8k.

This just shows that a chart tells you what you really want to see. They all obviously saw the other side of the trend and would mention the chance,  but went with what they were biased towards. Some of these folks are perma-bulls, some constantly bearish. Overall they see an upward trend in the long term but rarely see eye to eye on the short term. There is a reason people get wrecked trading or pull massive gains, there is no way to know for sure what is going to happen.

The only thing through all of this that makes sense, is the dollar cost averaging strategy. When you go to buy into a speculative market, best not to jump all in at once. Especially if you aren't sure you can hold out for the long term. I can't find it at the moment but about a while ago I saw a chart showing that you would be profitable even if you started buying in at the ATH, if you had continued to DCA, throughout 2018 into 2019.

Here is a different article I just found though that covers the same idea. https://www.bitcoinforbeginners.io/cryptocurrency-guide/dollar-cost-averaging-investment-strategy-bitcoin/
1053  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: PandaMiner is releasing their first BTC miner, PandaMiner P3 on: November 20, 2019, 11:33:34 PM
This actually is overall bad news , Bitmain keeps winning every mining competition, nobody can beat them so far, this is pretty bad for the mining industry as a whole to say the least.
To be fair though no one else really seems to have the gear to try and compete right now; I guess stock is a better word. I think Bitmain is just trying to move as much gear as possible so they don't get stuck so to speak. Gear will be increasingly less valuable over the next couple of months, so holding onto more of it isn't a great plan. Lowering the USD equivalent doesn't really matter as they get most of their payment in BTC and are obviously hedging on the price increasing in the future

The P3 will fall by the wayside quickly as I can't be sure any units ever went out. I've looked for videos or more than a single random line review claiming they've seen one and nothing. I did reach out to them as well a while ago but never heard back. If it does hit the market they need to drop price just to compete.
1054  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [2019-10-05] Canadian crypto exchange owner vanishes as regulators close in on: November 20, 2019, 06:08:13 PM
Well looks like the Einstein exchange is likely the worst of it all so far. Was reading up a couple days ago and they apparently have no more than 45,000 in assets against 16 million owed to customers. What a shit show. I'm glad I stopped using the exchanges in Canada after Quadriga, and have only done a few transactions with buy/sell providers that so far haven't had any issues. There's a few articles out there but this one has it covered. Interstingly enough they point to Fraud from credit and debit deposits as being a large part of the issue. I don't really buy it though as you would think you would shut down most of the deposit means that were causing the fraud before it got out of hand.

1056  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: EBIT E12 44TH/S on: November 20, 2019, 04:38:14 PM
I can't believe they actually produced these and put them out. I though they were dead in the water, these were announced last year about this time iirc. Best of luck to you and your employees, just make sure they know the risks around this gear, and take extra precautions in placing them. You might want to consider creating your own partial shell to cover the exposed Bus, just as a precaution.
1057  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dormant blockchain.com accounts? on: November 20, 2019, 04:32:38 PM
They've always stated that if you lose the password you lose the funds they had no access to or way of recovering your password or funds. I know I used to try and remember what my password, whenI ame around and became actively involved in BTC. Looked through all my old work books and every scrap of paper I could find, no luck.  I used it as a 1 off to buy a small amount and make a purchase, stupid me I just moved on with my life forgetting about BTC until I saw it a few years later making big moves in price. Can't remember what's there anymore might have been something like .03, maybe more maybe less. At the time I didn't consider it significant enough to care about  Roll Eyes

There are always going to be losses of BTC and coins that will never be recovered, just the nature of Bitcoin. The key is trying to educate people how easily it can happen.
1058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can you buy with bitcoin? Apparently, some weird shit. on: November 20, 2019, 04:50:39 AM
Lol, "have some dignity". You just don't want us to know you bought the stock out.  Grin

This reminds me of something I saw on youtube same idea, it was viles of their bathwater up for sale, and then they sent some other youtuber a jar of their spit, and the video of them producing it. Not going to bother looking for links but I'm sure people can find it. I just laugh because you know damn well it's just a bunch of dudes pissing in jars and sending it off.
I laugh at the posts on forum selling used sweaty undies, and then the first few comments being send us pics of you in them so we know it's legit.
Glad I haven't seen anything like this pop up in my searches. I may be travelling a bit across Canada here in the next few weeks and was looking for places I could actually spend some BTC/LTC, a restaurant or something like that. Just thought it would be cool to document some real world use.
1059  Other / Meta / Re: Auction feedback within hardware section. on: November 20, 2019, 04:42:15 AM
My suggestion to prevent it from being moved is place a BIN price to the auction. You can either set it ludicrously high so it's irrelevant or actually have something in place for if someone wants it right this minute.
I say this as I have reported a few "auctions" if you want to call them that, and they were left there as there was something like Bid in the post despite it being a locked thread, and having a set price. You could also try PMing malevolent, cyrus and hilariousandco to request permission/state your intentions.
The other option is to have a locked thread here that you bump describing the parts and pointing to the auction, seems unnecessary but should be a valid work around.

Good luck
1060  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4+ EH] Slush Pool (slushpool.com); Overt AsicBoost; World First Mining Pool on: November 20, 2019, 04:29:06 AM
1 block in two months?  Do you even pool?    Maybe Slush can hire you to run their servers or something
Quite well in fact. The last 3 months of stats, have more blocks than expected, sure not a lot of them but that's not how you need to look at things when comparing pool size and earnings. That one block was equivalent to something like 26 days of mining for me elsewhere, and another one will still give me a damn good payout.  Though given your signature I'm sure you're aware of the advantages of his pool. A lot can change with a few people waking up and realising their 100PH or more would save 1000's in fees and non-empty blocks if they moved over to a pool with hella good support and infrastructure. It's obvious I moved most of my hash away but still have some on Kano's pool, and if things work out, I will move it all back in a heartbeat.
