1101  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The winter mining setup on: November 07, 2019, 06:22:06 AM
Yeah that's a tough call on what would be best. I hate the idea of "wasting" any of the heat I produce in winter, because I have to pay for it anyways. I'm all for temp modifications/demolitions to make it happen. Within reason of course as I'm not looking to add to my costs. In your case how is the ceiling insulation secured in the garage? Most attached garages are sealed against CO, but if it isn't and you don't run a car in there, you could always pull down the insulation for the winter while you ran the miners in there. It would help warm the floor and transfer some heat. If you are handy with carpentry I've seen a couple of boxes built, for noise reduction you could extend one of the circuits out to your patio area and run a single miner in a box venting to the space for heat. It does make sense to keep the garage heated though, as you said it shares a non insulated wall with the house.

When I first got into BTC I was talking with a guy who I never did meet but was only supposed to be a few hours away. He was working on using a rad system to heat his shop space. I wonder if he ever got that off the ground. He was going to run the infloor heating through an old radiator he had sitting around, then point a couple of S9's at it.
1102  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [2019-10-05] Canadian crypto exchange owner vanishes as regulators close in on: November 07, 2019, 02:35:05 AM
I'm so out of the loop, lol. I just read this today and hadn't paid enough attention to even know Einstein Ex was Canadian. I was only minimally using Quadriga when it failed, and have found other options to both buy and sell BTC against CAD if I need to. EzBTC, has been a shitshow for a couple years if I'm not mistaken, surprised there hasn't been more action taken on that front tbh. I looked into them a few times, each time I was like" Is this that same one with the Smiley guy" and sure enough it was. Glad I never got sucked into their marketing bonuses and had funds there.

Honestly I don't want a bank, I'm not looking for some over regulated exchange to move funds around on. What I do think needs to start happening with any start-up exchange are publicly known wallets. It can then be verified that the funds are there, whether coldstorage or not. Something moves you know about it, books can't balance you know about it. I almost got burned by an other exchange a few weeks ago, but managed to comply. So know if I need to use them, it's in and out. No coin left behind.

Also the action taken is to late, they aren't protecting anyone apart from potential new victims.
1103  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The winter mining setup on: November 07, 2019, 02:20:40 AM
Nice. Unless your garage roof is sealed and insulated then you will definitely benefit from the warmer garage. If it is sealed and insulated then it will just heat the garage for the most part. I had to do something similar with 1 of my M10's before I moved them in the house as my garage temps were dropping to low to keep the machines running stable. So it was exhausting to the other 3 miners, and was removed back from the outside air intake.

I'm a couple days away from having my M20S in the house now. So far noise is a complete non-issue, but there may be to much heat. The basement is warm, probably near 25C. while the rest of the house is closer to 19C. I have a few older doors, that I think I will modify to be partially screened and replace the door at the top of my basement stairs. I can close the 2 vents near there and force more airflow to the second floor. I know I could run 1 or 2 M10's in LPM, but I just don't want to after the success in noise reduction.
1104  Economy / Gambling / Re: MintDice – Bitcoin Casino With Online Slots, Bitcoin Crash & Bitcoin Investment on: November 05, 2019, 06:44:51 AM
If the user base on MintDice grows substantially in the near future and we begin to monetize better, we can then of course afford to hire more talent to get more games developed
Well I'm sure as those new games roll out the growth will pick up. There's something to be said for breaking up the monotony and having a fresh game to have a go at.

What I said has nothing to do with "if you like bitcoin why not use paypal" level of idiotic response.
This was an example used to show how dissimilar the 2 games are. Sorry if you misunderstood that, I won't carry on this vein though  as I'm not looking to derail this thread. My comment also wasn't about the purity of poker, there are already so many variations and new ones still being created. I'm all for innovation, and trying out new formats.

1105  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NovaBlock, The Most Profitable Mining Pool on: November 05, 2019, 06:26:20 AM
Hmm, hadn't thought about that. I just assumed they were okay with the review and didn't have anything to follow up with. I did reach out to them on telegram just now to check, and it looks like they are just busy for the time being. Sounds like they were at WCC, and travelling so we'll probably see them in the next couple of days.
1106  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie welcome video on: November 05, 2019, 06:18:23 AM
Well I didn't cover everything I wanted to, and almost managed to come in under 5 minutes... give or take 20 some seconds.
Here is the link to Post formatting already timestamped. - https://youtu.be/7NHfaViknzM

Let me know what you think. Now that I have 2 videos to go off. I believe Noddabawt will create a topic for finished, critiqued and tweaked videos in the Beginner's and Help section. I'll continue to use this thread to post original cuts, for feedback as it's super helpful. Let me know what you think, and what you would like to see next.
1107  Bitcoin / Mining / Winter Mining 2.0 on: November 03, 2019, 08:42:00 PM
*blowing sound* Time to dust off the old basement and offset those damn winter utility bills again. I've taken some of the lessons from last season, and applied my sound dampening from the summer mining setup.

I present my test of 3 m10's in my new and improved Winter set up for the basement. Mineral wool insulation both intake and exhaust side. Intake has screen mesh wrapped around it to prevent any insulation being sucked into the fans should it degrade or flake off. Right now 2 30 amp circuits feeding the 3 m10's, and going to let it run another day or so to see how it fares. 2 shelving units sans shelves laying flat for the tunnels, and 1 upright with a shelf to create the seal and balance routers and PDU's as necessary. Animals strictly forbidden from entering the space, gave them a firm talking to. Tongue

So far the sound dampening is amazing compared to last year. I couldn't hear any of the fans upstairs over my general background furnace fan noise, so that's huge. This gives me hope that I will be able to put the M20s in there. plenty of space left, and this way I can downclock my 741's super low and place them just on the concrete slab near the furnace to do their part. That or drop them off at my buddies winter shack, but unless I'm going there anyways the gas isn't worth it. I'll get some sound meter readings at some point but this was the end of 3 late evenings of planning, placing, re-planning then just going for it. Oh yeah big difference is that I am exhausting towards the stone wall, atm I just have a larger baton of mineral wool placed against it to prevent degrading the mortar, but will place more. This has redirected a lot of sound and heat from where I have my PC set up downstairs. Here's some photos enjoy. One thing I did forget that I believe will help as well is placing a fitted piece of 1/2" rigid insulation under the miners themselves. It will raise them up a bit and reduce some of the sound I hear downstairs by taking them off the metal rack.

1108  Economy / Gambling / Re: MintDice – Bitcoin Casino With Online Slots, Bitcoin Crash & Bitcoin Investment on: November 03, 2019, 03:24:41 PM
Video poker shouldn't be really too far away from the roadmap if you like poker so much, I mean I kinda understand the purity of poker players wanting to keep poker clean and not make some video machine help people play "poker" because they feel like it is not even poker at that point etc etc.
This one made me laugh a bit, kind of like saying you like Bitcoin so why not just use Paypal. The only real similarity is in the "hands" apart from that it's just a 2 step slot machine really. I'm not a big gambler so these games don't interest me that much, I am looking forward to their developed skills games though. I imagine that will be a big draw, as you have the classics people seem to really like - Dice, Plinko but bringing something innovative in is what will really help generate fresh traffic, that won't be easily drawn to other sites. Whereas if you offer the same type of games as everyone else, what's really keeping people loyal for lack of a better word.
1109  Other / Meta / Re: My account was banned (Account was hacked). Please help. on: November 02, 2019, 09:44:43 PM
Your problem is you are emailing the ban appeals email. You should be emailing the account recovery team, to first establish that the account changed hands/ was hacked. The email is found in this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0  - recoveries...@bitcointalk.org

This would be my first step email them, with all details pertaining to the hack, First explain the account is banned but that the plagiarism happened when the account was hacked. Now they will be able to tell if this actually took place or not, so no sense in trying to BS them. If it can be proven that took place, you can then look to have the account unbanned.

I say this as it seems your account was hacked and they didn't change the password from the way you've written your post. I could be wrong, if you've already dealt with them then ask them to verify this with a Global Mod or theymos.
1110  Other / Meta / Re: Is it not allowed to sell guest posts on this forum? on: November 02, 2019, 09:11:10 PM
If you are trying to offer a service, then your title shouldn't be the content of the thread. It definitely looked like a low value spam post after looking at LoyceV's link. Try using the title to define your service, then give actual details in the post. If you are offering a thread bumping or posting service for this forum, those are not allowed.
1111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {Warning}: Fake Litecoin giveaway website on: November 02, 2019, 08:52:16 PM
Probably the same people who had a livestream running on youtube when I woke up. Live interview with Charlie Lee... from June, maybe July but the date was blurry in the top corner of the little window that had the stream. The rest was that same scrolling fake donations.
Youtube sucks though reported it and the channel and 2 hours later it was still running. Damn shame as I saw them pull in about 94 LTC the last time I checked. I can't believe people still fall for these send me this to verify and I'll send 10X back. The chat looked like just a bunch of banned users, obviously the people calling them out.

I stand corrected 132 LTC - and the video is still up. sigh
1112  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: November 02, 2019, 08:23:00 PM
I would have to go look through their feedback and what not, but it might still be valuable enough to deserve to be included within someone's trust list.
The first one has left a lot of positive feedback. The other 3 haven't left any feedback at all. Those last 3 aren't really a problem for the Trust system, but it's not helping either.
Yeah I looked it over quickly I agree with you, looks like the first is an older account that was involved in group buys or something while older feedback is still relevant, there's nothing there that seems to be enough to need them on a trust list. The other three don't have any value for the system overall and if they were their based on their judgement in posting and advice, they can't do it anymore so are doing nothing, apart from potentially filling a spot on the 10 required for a personal trust list.

I was more making a general comment that there could be cases where banned doesn't mean poor judgement in regards to feedback.

I think it's more important to make clear my thoughts on people using the trust system for things such as "I disagree with what this person says".
Agreed, It's definitely best to make a list that represents your judgement rather than worrying about remaining or earning a spot on DT.

Wouldn't a simple solution to this be that if you're banned you're no longer eligible for DT1 and DT2?
Could be, then the users who agree with ratings just have to go back and duplicate the feedback they deem relevant. It would probably have to become a larger issue than it currently is before anything like that happens
1113  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: November 02, 2019, 07:41:56 PM
It's not flawless though, there are for instance still 4 banned users on DT2:
What system is  Tongue
I would have to go look through their feedback and what not, but it might still be valuable enough to deserve to be included within someone's trust list. If they are aware it is a banned individual though I guess as DT-1 or even a candidate they should mirror what they agree with and then remove the banned user from their list. I'm trying to be a little more open minded to the nuances of this system, up to and including making an argument for a perma-banned user to be on DT-2... kinda felt dirty just typing that. I think I came to this thought when it was apparent that some users were deserving of a second chance when a year or two ago they would have likely never received that opportunity.
Just realized Ban's still aren't visible on a profile, it really should be stated on a profile page... but that's a different topic.
1114  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: November 02, 2019, 07:05:38 PM
I didn't say that those who have negative trust should not be on DT. Although this may be the case some of the time.
Okay then I don't really understand what you meant by the statement below. I do agree that sometimes there can be an issue that's why it's always good to review feedback. There is one account I'm unfamiliar with that I think may fall into that here upon further inspection. I rarely check into the DT list.

It seems there might be a mismatch between who is on DT and who should be on DT.
1115  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: November 02, 2019, 06:48:40 PM
There are a lot of people who are on DT who have negative trust. It seems there might be a mismatch between who is on DT and who should be on DT.
Just because someone has received negative "feedback" from someone deemed trustworthy by some users doesn't mean they can't also be trustworthy to other users. This seems to me the system is working as intended and spreading out the Default trust as opposed to having it be a core group.

It should really only be used by newbies anyways as more experienced users should create their own custom trust lists.
1116  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Comparing the biggest and most expensive campaigns: Chipmixer - Cryptotalk/Yobit on: November 02, 2019, 01:59:46 PM
It's about visibility and traffic. In advertising even bad press is a net benefit for most. They are really trying to funnel users away from Bitcointalk to their forum, and have the money to spend to do so. So sure they could pay 20-60 users more and receive less visibility, but with a higher quality of posting - which doesn't matter to them; or they can receive 2000 (200 users 10 posts) posts per day that offer a "new exciting" forum. That really has no blatant ties to Yobit in the signature, unless you have been here for a while and know it's them.

Consider it like blanketing a parking lot at a mall with flyers. they are annoying useless and overall bad for the environment. It will still get a lot of eyes on whatever the advert is.
1117  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [Trade] 2 LTC to BTC on: November 02, 2019, 01:37:03 PM
Hey I'll take that trade. Give me a bit to get an address together for the LTC, provide me with your BTC Address. Give me the amount of BTC requested and I'll confirm it as well. I can send BTC right away. Willing to take more if you have it.

1118  Economy / Securities / Re: SOLD LoyceVs Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Roller Coaster#2 on: November 02, 2019, 06:33:40 AM
Darkstar_ If you do run a round count me in. I'm in a speculative sort of mood lately.

LoyceV I would jump in for your 3rd round as well, but I think it will be a long time before we see 80% BTC dominance, I'll keep my eye out for it though.
1119  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Innosilicon T2T 30T review on: November 01, 2019, 10:26:28 PM
What do you mean you want to make up a power cable? Or are you trying to wire up a circuit? I'm in Canada as well, and generally order in Power Cables, Home depot doesn't generally have the cord ends to make one up yourself. If it's the power cable you will need something like this https://www.primecables.ca/p-361208-cab-pw-141-all-nema-6-20p-to-iec-c19-power-cable-12awg-sjt#sku371493
The outlet end depends on if you have a PDU or what type of outlet you have installed on what type of circuit. The more info you can provide the better. Do you have the power cable it shipped with? If so you can cut off the foreign plug type and replace it as well.

If you are talking about your electrical circuit, you need to have a 220V line 15 Amp circuit minimum. This would have to be the only machine on that line.

Edit: Just noticed some of your posts above. The wiring for your circuit should be 12/2 wire. If you say this Home depot will know what it is. 15 or 20 amp breaker on the circuit - it will be a 2 pole breaker. I will say if you are not sure what you are doing it is best to hire an electrician to do this.

If I were to receive one I would be fine waiting for as long as it takes to get them done right. It's not receiving and having them in hand at the 10 year that matters, it's purpose is to represent the milestone. Thanks for keeping up the legwork Welsh.
