1501  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: September 08, 2013, 10:29:54 AM
Just thought I'd share this over here as well...

I just finished a little addition for MinePeon, which is integration with MobileMinerApp (including remote Start,Stop,Restart from within the app)... I haven't pushed it to github yet (still need to talk with Neil (MineForeman.com)), like wise I'm still playing with a few other things on MinePeon.

There is a script running in the background that updates MobileMinerApp with stats & checks for incoming commands, currently every minute. There will  be a configuration to allow you to turn the checking down to every 30 seconds (minimum).

Anyhow, here's some iOS screenshots...

Pretty nice.
I installed it on my Ipad but it looks like there is nothing to connect it with CGMiner on Minepeon?
Any ideas on a date?

Thanks,
IAS
1502  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: September 07, 2013, 05:13:32 PM
Also, just put up a photo of the hub for stacking two full miniplanes, and updated prices for bare boards. 1-5 for $25 each, 5+ for $20 each.  Smiley
That is an aeroplane :p
What is the advantage of doing so? Thou I don't have that much of boards Sad

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it just makes connecting things simpler. You don't needs separate internet connections and power for each board, you centrally plug them all in to the hub.

Great ideas Barntech (e.g. Google hangouts and such). The community is moving along and I'm sure will settle down.

I imagine your situation as a developer is tough. I mean the rising cost of chips really hurt things. And on top of that the unknown regarding the difficulty level. I feel real lucky to have gotten in your GB as there is still a good chance of it being at least a break even situation. Which at this point is all you can ask from mining. The good thing, I think, is that the chip you choose, probably doesn't affect your board design and such (outside of the size of the chips - meaning the other chips and such should be the same?)

Now, it looks like BTC might be adjusting down. The next few days, TA wise, are key imo. IF the price does come back down, they might bring the cost of chips down again, so be ready to jump.

Lastly, I've seen some promising results on the Avalons regarding overclocking. Here there is a 42% improvement - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179769.msg3089225#msg3089225
Different chip, but perhaps the principals can be applied?
At this point in the game, overclocking can be the deciding factor regarding losses, breaking even or profit.

All the best,
IAS
1504  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips (SebastianJu) Batch 6 ordered (Closed) on: September 07, 2013, 09:25:22 AM
Alright guys, got some good news, here's the two big ones.

1. chips from wednesday arrived just fine, they are being split/packaged for shipment.
2. we are going to open refund for all orders, not just june 1st/15th or what not.

expect more detailed update via newsletter later tonight.

Great news.

What are the chances batch 6 chips are included from this GB? (As there have been a lot of refunds as Sebastian said above.)

If any ASIC miner hosts need vetting, I offer vetting to both Miner Hosts (and new Group Buy Coordinators) as a free service to the community & because we all know John K. is busy as F. I've vetted or am in the process of vetting 5 new GBCs & several miner hosts around the world. You can send me a PM for more details or see Post 6 of my Services page.

Vetted hosts can either be part of my Miner Host Matchmaking Index or they can go solo after that. Being vetted means that you willingly share your ID with a trusted forum member as a means of establishing trust; essentially someone knows who you are & where you live if you're evil or fraudulent.

And believe me: there's nothing more I'd love to do then hand over some scammer to the cops.  Wink

I do recommend that any miner hosts upgrade their insurance (or go buy some if they don't already have renters/home owners insurance), their security, and in certain circumstances such as hosting CT IVs you may want to even go secure a real world surety bond to assuage customer apprehension.

Besides escrowed GB shares/purchases for those that want it, the vetting and arranging of hosting is yet another service I can offer to any bare rig ASIC rig GB & Hosting plan Barntech wants to work on so he can focus on doing what he does best.

I think it is great to have more "John K.'s" but I also think we need deeper protection. We are essentially talking a business here and it needs transparency. Seeing pictures, video, etc. would put a lot of us at ease and would greatly assist the police should anything shady happen. Documents can be forged and such, so we need to be careful. It aids the GB organizers, the builders, the participants as well as people acting as Escrow agents.

In other words, we need some kind of Open Source project regarding all this - a set of generally accepted instructions, to help weed out untrustworthy people. Things like people hosting machines in their home should have theft insurance, etc.

1506  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NSA might be behind weakening of Android Random Number Generator problem on: September 07, 2013, 08:01:21 AM
Don't be so sure that you can't plant backdoors in open source software.

I used to pretty much assume that every time I run "yum update" or "yum upgrade" a CIA officer could be in some RedHat (or mirror site) office telling some techie "Yes, that's the guy. He gets the worm/trojan".

Basically that they could target, everyone else getting a perfectly normal copy of whatever thing they wanted me to have a backdoored copy of while I get the backdoor.

-MarkM-

Some interesting ideas in this thread and this one seems quite believable. Keep it "open source" but plant upgrades into certain IP addresses. Do people have access to the upgrade systems of these open source software companies? Seems like a trusted download site would be a bit more secure, but anything is possible - man in the middle type of things are always there.

I imagine though, that the orders come from few and it certainly looks like the empire is having its challenges (e.g. Syria) to expand it's bringing of "Democracy" and "Stability", particularly the latter. All these wars now seem to be less about "winning" and more about just bringing instability. Not to go off tangent but I get the feeling, things are connected somehow. The software issue is probably key for very obvious reasons. And as others have mentioned, we can't forget hardware. (And how does one even look into it?)

Perhaps they don't want to take action unless there is a risk of them losing users/money.
Obviously.
The question is: why they don't want to take action?
I mean, they cannot be so stupid to not understand that not taking the action is basically leaving an open backdoor in their encryption libraries.
So why do they willingly keep the backdoor open?

Maybe because Google was initially funded by people with clear ties to the NSA?

1509  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NSA might be behind weakening of Android Random Number Generator problem on: September 06, 2013, 09:45:27 AM
Thanks for the information Mike.

Again, my point is just to lock down the weak points. Whether or not the NSA did anything is not so much the point (though it is a possibility and an attention grabber / worst case scenario that we should be open to.)

Were you the guy in the interview? Why say "I realise that you can see me as a part of the wider conspiracy"? The man in the interview was clear that it looked suspicious (2 weak points and not 1).

Point taken though,
Thanks again,
IAS
1510  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NSA might be behind weakening of Android Random Number Generator problem on: September 06, 2013, 09:24:07 AM
Yes, I agree. NSA and dictator Obama are behind this.

My real point, if it is not clear, is EXTREME EFFORT should be spent in looking at these interfaces between our the cryptographic security (e.g. SHA256) and it's technical implementation.
The "back doors" or "weak points" will be in plain site and easily overlooked. e.g. - The android random number generator.
We patch these weak points or saboteured areas, and we will be good.

1511  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: September 06, 2013, 08:58:23 AM
I really cannot wait to see these things going.

Excited much? Roll Eyes

Yeah, this is pretty exciting to be involved at the floor up level with someone like Barntech. Watching things develop and the product being created before our eyes.
Really is exciting.

And again, hey, how great is a hobby/passion that can maybe pay for itself or even profit? Not to mention make the world a better place (those bad bankers ;-)

1512  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / NSA might be behind weakening of Android Random Number Generator problem on: September 06, 2013, 08:50:59 AM
This is something we (now) have to consider, if you already hadn't. In the interview a few weeks or month back on Let's Talk Bitcoin with the computer scientist who discovered the low entropy of the android based random number generator that was generating 9 bits (and not 256, if I remember correctly) of entropy he stated he found 2 points of weakness and it was VERY suspicious to him.

Snowden released some more information and what I'm seeing is that SHA256 is indeed secure but the weakness would be in implementation and such. The NSA is becoming a Saboteur of implementation it seems.

The latest article regarding this (Sept 5) is here:
Latest Snowden revelation: NSA sabotaged electronic locks
http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-nsa-introduced-vulnerabilities-into-encryption-snowden-reveals-20130905,0,2218463.story

Snippet:
Quote
The latest Edward Snowden-powered exposé published by the New York Times, ProPublica and the Guardian is, to me, the most frightening. It reveals that the National Security Agency has moved beyond its historic role as a code-breaker to become a saboteur of the encryption systems. Its work has allegedly weakened the scrambling not just of terrorists' emails but also bank transactions, medical records and communications among coworkers.

Here's the money graf:

"The NSA hacked into target computers to snare messages before they were encrypted. And the agency used its influence as the world’s most experienced code maker to covertly introduce weaknesses into the encryption standards followed by hardware and software developers around the world."

I'd be disappointed if the NSA hadn't figured out how to do that hacking trick. But adding vulnerabilities to standard encryption techniques? That's just making the job easier for hackers to make sense of the scrambled data they steal.

I wish I could add my help but I'm not a programmer. Hopefully bringing things like this to the attention of those capable of discovering these "flaws" will allow for their correction.

1513  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 06, 2013, 08:35:58 AM
How far have you been able push your 10 chip bitburner boards with cgminer?

Im getting a (5s) average of around 4Gh/s.. Im using part of the command found here buried deep in this thread..

--avalon-options 115200:2:10:29:415 --avalon-temp 58 --avalon-freq 415 --bitburner-voltage 1280 --avalon-fan 100 --queue 4

That is around a 42% improvement over the stock 2.82 Ghash/s speed. WOW.
Thanks a lot for sharing the settings. I will try to apply them when I get my miner.

Do you mind saying which PS and setup your are using? Appreciated.
Thanks Kano for adding.

LTC going nuts

This has happened before. LTC dumps often follow BTC crashes. just wait.

You mean the opposite actually. LTC pumps often follow BTC crashes.

BTC Crashes so people hedge to LTC? Or LTC gets pumped and people exit crypto (BTC)?

Yeah, AND, when trading within (from one to another) Cryptocurrencies you don't have to pay taxes, only when going from $$$ to Crypto. So it is a nice way to move around.
Perhaps that is worth checking, but I've seen it mentioned before.
1515  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 6 x BitBurner 20/board, can-bus, express shipping on: September 04, 2013, 05:36:57 PM
As burnin stated, customers may sell their orders if they desire.  You must provide your own Avalon chips.

Order: #694
6 x Complete BitBurner Module with attached heat-sink (#32220) Chips per board: 20 -- €749,70
1 x CAN-BUS Stacking cable (#44016) -- €9,52
Shipping:   €83,30 via Express (for shipping to Romania)
Order Total:   €842,52

---
Selling price is €700 (-17%)
If you are intrested you can PM me.

if burnin is able to transfer the order to my account, iam interest to place an offer.
Cart "subtotal" 759€ - my offer for this part: 500€

shipping will be refunded as iam from germany, just as burnin to.

best regards
Menig

I see you offering really low prices for the miners. Do you know that Burnin is offering a 50% + later 20% refund?
So, 490 is 70%, you have to offer more than what Burnin is offering?

1516  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Paper Wallets - Services, suggestions, warnings, etc. on: September 04, 2013, 07:15:46 AM
Thanks for sharing the great ideas guys. I would be VERY CAREFUL with complexity though. If you know (and PRACTICE) your method, then you are great. But one slip up, one memory loss or the like and... not good.

Canton - I love the physical methods you spoke of. Unfortunately, I'm in Germany and neither of those products are available here (Couldn't find them in the UK either). But, I've seen water/rip proof photo paper. That is probably similar in property (and cost apparently) to the Teslin but I know not as tough? I don't know of another spray product like you mentioned though. And thanks for the thread revival - was hoping for it to be a BrainStorm area.

The Teslin sounds like a great idea. I'm really surprised we don't hear about similar things from other BTC users. I mean paper wallets are used by many many people and paper has it's obvious faults.

And here is a stainless steel wallet. Great for fires, etc. And you can probably hide it quite easily. And unlike paper, you won't accidentally throw it out...

1517  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 03, 2013, 08:14:44 AM
If you have some of your money in another currency and buy something with it, I don't think capital gains would be involved. This is a question for a lawyer but I can't imagine countries, banks, etc. who have their money in other currencies, must pay capital gains on things for purchases made.

I was under the understanding that taxes are paid when going from currency to currency (depending on country). Here in Germany you have no capital gains on BTC's held for over one year.

IAS

buying a house, especially if its a second house... you'll get tax... you can try to pay with bitcoin at never declare it... idk i wouldn't...

You are looking at is as if BTC was an investment. I'm saying you are just holding another currency.
If you go to another country and exchange thousands in that currency and then come home and that currency's value increases, do you pay a capital gains tax on it? I can't imagine that happening.

Now, if you see BTC as a stock, that might be another matter. But, it is a currency.

I don't doubt there can be legal implications, I'm just saying I think it is way too early to speak with any certainty here.

IAS

In the US it is called foreign currency gains and is taxable (alternatively, barter gains). If bitcoin is seen as a functional currency, I read it as giving us a personal use exemption on gains less than $200 -- any transaction with gains higher than that is supposed to be reported. If bitcoin isn't seen as a currency, no exemption. Too lazy to look up and cite but pretty sure this is the case.

Thanks for that! Hopefully this helps others.

1518  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 03, 2013, 08:12:59 AM
This is starting to remind me of the day before the drive through 125. Keep the price within $5 of the wall, buy up to a buck or so of the base of the wall when the asks fill in but don't drop a big bidwall, and keep refreshing small bidwalls to maintain the $5 spread.

Some people thought it might be a hammer but the 125 wall was eaten, not pulled.

Get ready. I think the next whale move will happen in less than 24 hours.

Based on the number of triangles in the last month I've wondered if the whales artificially control the creation of triangles using methods like what you are describing. Create the triangle and then punch through it causing a surge of others to join in and help push things up as they follow. I've ponded this before during others times in the market.

You think?  Wink
Yes I certain do think. As to whether it is true or simply the market naturally creating the triangles is a completely different issue, haha.  Wink Cheesy

There is some obvious "manipulation" going on. Maybe the head and shoulders pattern. Take your shoes off and walk like a ninja. Really feels like one has to be looking over their shoulders in this market.

I get the feeling bots might be making the patterns, at least some of them...
1519  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 03, 2013, 08:06:32 AM
1 hour indicators have cooled. Whale may step in between now and a day.

Do you think the whale has been following the 1hr chart more?
1520  Economy / Speculation / Re: September and October will be eventful. on: September 03, 2013, 07:33:51 AM
The basis of my opinion: what goes up must come down.

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg360ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv

Also, since the first huge price upswing to $35, it took a full year before the market was able to match that and surpass it. I just don't see it going to $260 again until at least later this year or next year. Bitcoin is still so small, almost no one's heard of it. These huge price swings have to have a lot of money behind them.. I just don't think it's there at this point in time. Maybe we are a few headlines away from that happening, but at the current state of affairs I see it as unlikely.

Fair enough but we aren't exactly dealing with a stock here. This is like a micro cap company (share wise) that is essentially the biggest at what it does and with little competition. And it (BTC) does something that is failing around the world as we speak. And it does more that the current economic system needs (e.g. cheap overseas payments, even in Country.) Now, I can't argue that the price is going to come down, but what I can argue with is how it got here. It got here from BIG BUYERS. This has been happening since we bottomed at $65. It is up to them, not TA, not what we think, though how much we buy or sell can have an effect - But, they have BIG pockets.

Further, this person or group of people doing the HUGE buying are following TA to an extent. When they stop this rise stops, but how much money do they have? Thus far few others have jumped on board. When that happens then you got bubble 3.0, or is it 4.0?  Wink
