ok, so some other h/w have made ROI. but not like Ava batch 1. being the first asic h/w in the market those owner made a ton of coins. not just 1 or 2 btc.

Well I don't exactly recall what the price of a bitcoin was back when avalon first sold their batch #1. But roughly around the time BFL came out with their jalapeno's (order of months after avalon's release) bitcoins were about $90 each. So to compare the purchasing power an avalon would have to mine about 6+ bitcoins to have the same purchasing power as mining 1 bitcoin with a miner nowadays.

Another S1 follow on product:

curious, on what you meant by "Another S1 follow on product:"?

correct me if I am wrong, but Avalon was the first to come to market with AISC mining h/w. They are also the one and only ASIC h/w manufacturer to to give it's batch 1 and 2 Avalon miners ROI, and than some.

QG

I'm not 100% sure what your last sentence means since techincally only Avalon could give Avalon miners that ROI. But if you meant hey are the only ASIC HW manufactures to have ROI >100% you'd be greatly mistaken. So far every ASIC miner i've bought has made over 100% ROI (they are well thought out purchases though), with the 1 exception of a recently purchased altcoin ASIC that is still working towards ROI.

Even with a late Antminer S1 that I bought for about 1.4 bitcoins, has now made me back 2.xx bitcoins.

Yeah they will definitely wait until the difficulty increase today, my guess is that is what they were waiting for. I'm betting this difficulty increase will be huge like 28% or almost 30%, which we haven't seen those kinds of numbers since December 2013. I am however happy that the didn't take "pre-orders" and then postpone for difficulty increases. I'm quite happy with my Antminer S1's and hope that the S3 will have a great $/GH and GH/w ratios like their first gen's did.

Waiting anxiously to hear how good the Antminer S3 prices are Cheesy
It is going to be pretty much 25%....

I dont know where you get your numbers from, but they are surely wrong.

Also, because of high demand the first batch of S3s should be overpriced, compared to the 2nd batch.

Uhhh... 25% is still huge? We haven't had a difficulty increase over 22.xx% since January 2013. I eyeballed 28%, which is pretty damn close to your stated 25%. Give me a break.
1584  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 29, 2014, 08:04:19 AM
Price impacts from the auction should be minimal, as the every day volume is already 30k bitcoin.

Highly discounted rates are also unlikely as investors will have bought at around the current bitcoin price.

Well I highly doubt that the buyers in the auction will immediately dump it all on bitstamp, which may just be wishful thinking on my part? I expect that the winning bidders will be holding for a while, especially if they paid slightly higher or at market price (obv)

1586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [START] StartCOIN - The digital currency for crowdfunding on: June 21, 2014, 06:21:15 AM
Startcoin will be pumped on MCXNow day before Keiser's conference (June 22nd)

I doubt it. It will only pump after the news. And they'll need to be pretty good. No vague, maxcoin like news.

What conference is this in reference to? I checked the bitcoinbeltway and it doesn't appear that he will be speaking in that conference.
1587  Economy / Digital goods / Re: $400 off Coupon at GAWMiners on: June 20, 2014, 07:37:07 AM
Yes I still have the coupon, it will definitely be used by myself once 6/24/14 comes as I will be buying a week 5 order if no one wants the $500 off.

If anyone else wants it you have less than 4 days to buy it now.

Edit: I take that back, my order is now awaiting fulfillment and is no longer cancel-able as far as I can tell. This offer is now closed.
1588  Economy / Speculation / Re: FBI coins could sell for a premium on: June 20, 2014, 07:20:47 AM
2)  But if these coins go for a premium over market price, then the buyer will hold them forever.

The reason that the coins would sell for a premium (I highly doubt they would) would be because they would be paying for something that an exchange could not otherwise provide. This would not affect the time frame of any investor of these coins

Well a second reason why they could potentially sell for a premium is that here is the opportunity to buy a large amount of coins without the market price going up. If you tried to buy that many bitcoins on an exchange in a short period of time that would cause the price to increase and you'd likely end up with less coins for your money.
1589  Economy / Speculation / Re: If Bitcoin became the world (Reserve) currency on: June 20, 2014, 06:53:51 AM
I'm a bull (At present) because long term I think it may end up at $20,000 or so  (that's over 3000% of today's prices) , but I don't think it will become the world reserve currency.

TERA a bull, quoted for reference. As far as $20,000 goes, I think that is a very, very low goal if we look 3-4 years in the future. The USD is going to hell, central banking countries are going bankrupt and when the shit hits the fan, I know exactly what type of currency will take center stage.
1590  Economy / Speculation / Re: Google Wallet + Facebook apply for banking license on: June 20, 2014, 06:38:00 AM
Honestly with Bitcoin apps on your phone using NFC (same technology as google wallet and visa's version) it will be just easy to pay with bitcoins as it will/would be with other payment services.
1591  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: June 18, 2014, 06:49:54 AM
Stunna I first tried to claim my payment which I was able to submit. Then when I tried to re-enroll it just has a continue button that asks for payment verification again. Since there was no submit button after the re-enrollment I filled I ended up filling it out twice so that I could submit my re-enrollment status. I'm not trying to ask for 2 payments, so just be aware of my duplicate payment entry.

The payment form asks for the enrollment post so I'm going to make an enrollment post again this month in case it's needed and you just forgot to mention it in the OP.

1592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Marriage as a contract in the blockchain. on: June 18, 2014, 06:32:10 AM
Hmmm... What if you guys both have your own non-shared private key and a single shared private/public key pair. You then each generate your own public key to your private key and have a paper notarized that includes your finger print, ID and public key (from your non-shared private key) on a paper, signifying that you do indeed own that public key. Now you keep a copy of that notarized paper for yourself and give the original to your partner (now your partner has legal proof of you stating you own that public key).

Then a hash of your marriage agreement is made and is known to both of you. You both then send a small fraction of a bitcoin using your non-shared private key/public key pair to the shared bitcoin private/public key pair with the hash of the marriage agreement as a public note, signifying that the marriage agreement is active.

That shared private/public key (which could be a multi-sig key if you wanted) is then used as your joint bank account.

Sounds fun to me honestly. Congratulations on your marriage Smiley
1593  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: All my coins are belong to Coinbase. on: June 17, 2014, 03:52:50 AM
My speculation is that Coinbase doesn't execute all of its customers orders in real time on an exchange but rather in a batch process where they buy all of the coins at one point in the day or at intervals during the day.  If the average price that a customer bought at is below the price that their batch needs to execute at, then they are in the hole and have to selectively remove some of the lower buyers to balance the equation. In addition, they may be interested in making a profit so they remove even more low buyers.

Obvious question, have you contacted them? They will honor the bitcoin price purchase as long as your info is actually valid and the order was placed. This has happened to many people, issue is always resolved at the original price.

Coinbase transactions that take fiat money from your bank account or credit card have to go through national clearing houses, just like every other transaction. If the clearing house holds your transaction then the coinbase purchase cannot go through and your order is cancelled. This same process can happen with sudden increases in paypal spending, credit card fraud etc. It's just a part of the purpose of the clearing houses, also a major reason to switch to bitcoin transactions in the future (separate from buying bitcoins in the first place)
1594  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bubble incoming! $3800 - $4000 expected on: June 17, 2014, 03:46:57 AM
I could use the RSI to point out some really bearish things too. I'll make a thread on that later.

You're such a giant Bitcoin bear that it makes me wonder why you're ever on these forums. It's one thing to be skeptical or to see/know that there will indeed be bad days for bitcoin (and any other potential investment or hobby out there), but I haven't ever noticed 1 hopeful or positive comment about bitcoin from you ever. Now I haven't gone through and looked at all your posting history, so there may be some in there somewhere, but I'd wager that they are few and far between.

With that being said, is bitcoin an investment to you? A hobby? An Interest? And if it is of any interest to you at all, why is it always in a negative light? Do you hate all of your hobbies?

I'm not raging on you or anything, just very curious as to your continued negativity and yet persistent activity in regards in bitcoin.

When you say its not noisy, can you give us an actual dB meter reading on a unit in a single room? If you don't have one handy there are plenty of free phone apps that give a pretty good reading on it. Also when you say we can use paypal to purchase a "sample" is that a full working unit that we can keep at full price? Or is that for a smaller unit? A unit that must be returned later? Or what else do you mean by that.
1596  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 16, 2014, 08:36:57 AM
OMFG Coinbase cancelled my order where I bought at $560.

Just email them and they will give you the BTC at the price you purchased it for. You're account was probably inactive for a long period of time and then a sudden large buy.

I can't seem to find out how to buy an DCC:ASX stock on the stock exchange here in america for some reason. Any ideas? I've tried ASX:DCC, DCC, DCC.ASX, ASX.DCC, DCC:ASX. I just don't see it...

One day people will mine old landfills for hard drives like they mine gold   (just kidding Cheesy)

This could relate to the float of a stock.   They only count the shares often traded, the fact that bill gates has 10% held of microsoft for years is not counted in the worth of the share so far as I know.   If he sold them then its included in the market capitalisation

I think the marketcap site started doing this partly, excluding premine and other coins that have not yet released the coins properly
\

Well in the case of losing 5000 bitcoins (current worth of 3.3Million) when bitcoin price rises enough....people may very well go digging for old hard drives in landfields....
