1762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Before you get HEAVILY invested in ETH Mining you should read this on: May 08, 2016, 05:12:07 AM
xfx 380 and 390 can be undervolted or overvolted with msi afterburner.  Plus even thought the new gen comes out, you wont have a problem selling a 380 or a 390.  Now people with 280x and 79xx well they will find that those cards wont be worth quite as much imo, they are getting old Smiley

edit:  I mean new gen and even the 380 has so much better power consumption, its crazy.

I mean, ram is pretty darn cheap.......get some on sale, like 8gb for around 30$ or something

I could not agree more Mr. Penguin.  Although Doge should be left out of that - as it was specifically a joke coin and wasnt pretending to be serious.  The fact that it blew up so much is one of those things that will remain unexplained for ever.

Ok, so I'm quite sure my first problem is the wireless adapter I'm using.  Plugged in using an ethernet cable, I get steady connection and have no problems also connecting TeamViewer.  Unfortunately, the spot I want my rig is nowhere near where my modem/router is, so I need to find a dependable wireless solution.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for any feedback!

This is cheap and works like a charm:

 Grin

Thanks much for the suggestion!  I'm going to try (already ordered) a powerline ethernet adapter, as that will also work for my situation.  Unfortunately, I paid a bit more than the product you linked, but shouldn't be an issue cuz Eth is going to the moon, right? Wink

I know you already ordered the powerline thing, but you could also get a really cheap linksys router or other that is compatible with ddwrt firmware.  You flash the right firmware on it and set it as a wireless repeater/bridge.  then you have better wifi signal.  plus plug in an ethernet wire into it to your rig

I suspended the cards on the side for better airflow/stability.  Yeah i'm mining eth with the claymore dualminer (with dcr).  I have one 390 (xfx) on the motherboard, and 2 380 (xfx and one gigabyte).  I like the xfx, overclocks well + the 380 has two 6 pin vs one 8 pin for the gigabyte.  Rig gets about 74mhs eth and maybe 0.004btc worth of dcr daily.  I need heating in the garage 7-8 months a year anyways, plus it gets the humidity out.  s7 was a bit much.  This is much better - i'll add a 4th card soon and it should take about 1000w.  cost of the rig was pretty cheap, z97 motherboard (4 slots for pci), ssd and 8g of ram, less than 150$ after Mail in rebates.  I only bought what was on a good sale.  Right now its decent earnings, but people shouldnt think it will last forever, but I pay 0.05cents canadian for electricity + its heating, so this is alllll good for roi...eventually.

edit:  forgot to say, I have 1xpci usb risers to 16x.  WARNING:  they come with Sata to Molex adapters - the shitty kind (molded plastic over wires).  DO NOT USE.  risk of fire.  especially if you overclock.  there are good kinds that dont cause fires.
1767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hardware Sales Tax bought outside of U.S.A on: May 04, 2016, 07:53:22 PM
Importing miners into Canada I had to pay 5% GST and was happy to do so. In much of Europe you will pay up to 20% value-added tax. It seems to me that your state (In the US obviously this will differ from state to state on what goods and how much tax is owed) has some kind of import/sales tax and your miners will almost certainly qualify, especially in an amount that would require $15,000 worth of tax!

It is up to you to determine what taxes may be applicable and what rate is applied in your state.

According to http://www.taxrates.com/state-rates/arkansas/ states that depending on municipality you may owe between 6.5% ($200,000 worth of miners!) and 11.25% ($180,000 worth of miners!) sales tax on imported items

Either way I'm impressed with that number being hosted in North America Smiley

Interesting side note: In Canada bitcoin generation is GST-exempt (receiving bitcoins by mining). Receiving fiat for bitcoin amounts to capital gain at a minimal tax rate, all for some very good reasons. However I determined that hosting services ie. hosting someone else's miners for a % or flat-rate fee would be GST applicable at 5%.

lucky you, my single antminer s7 cost me 15% tax in quebec Sad i cry

my ghetto garage heater  (used to be a antminer s7, but that shit was too loud/too much heat)
1769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Investing upto 20k USD on ethereum mining on: May 04, 2016, 07:45:10 PM
DONT do cloud mining or whatever, best you can do is rent hashrate on nicehash or other website.  IF you do decide to invest 20k (sigh) in video cards...well...just make sure you thought of the heat and electric situation.  3 high end cards keep my garage nice and warm, 8 would make it a tropical zone, temperate in winter.  imagine having 40....you would need to evacuate all that heat...its a problem.

+2.3 = fr4nkthetank

Maybe announce 0.1 reward, but give the actual reward 0.3 whatever so you dont attract unwanted attention by idiots/trolls/scammers.  But I love this contest, speculating on diff is awesome.  Remember, the s7's keep rolling out of bitmain's factory Smiley
1776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Investing upto 20k USD on ethereum mining on: May 02, 2016, 12:50:30 PM
Cloud mining = scam.  And there are different levels of scam.  They go from we take your money and laugh, to we "pay" out using other peoples funds (pyramid scheme) to we actually mine and pay out
1777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred GPU Miner v4.0 on: April 29, 2016, 01:25:09 PM
Have tried v4.0 - very good! Hashrate is the same v3.2 or v3.3, maybe even more.
R9 270 ~ 14Mh/s
7950 ~ 18,5 - 19,5Mh/s depends on model
R9 280x ~ 21Mh/s

But have experience with one issue - can't set -cclock or -mclock values - the miner crashes. AMD Driver 15.12, 4 Gb RAM, 16GB swapfile, 5x R9 270 2 Gb. I would attach screenshots but I have localized version of Windows 7 x64. In logfile is no usefull info.

get msi afterburner for example and set your clocks in there, much simpler.

hahahah I just updated to what was it 3.2 an hour or something before 3.3 came out.  Cant stop progress I suppose, back to work it is.

Thanks for the answer guys, yeah DCR and ETH is a good match.  I'm just holding all my DCR. When I get enough i'll buy tokens and start the POS.  anybody know how much they cost ?  I havent d/l the client yet.
1780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred GPU Miner v1.2 on: April 16, 2016, 02:56:41 AM
Why Decred Claymore ?  Just asking.  I actually like the coin too, buy tokens, get POS, etc.
