Allright, i feel like i will try to push one of mine to 225 mhz... let's see Tongue

Up and running ... more to come Tongue

22 mins in 445 Gh/s (still going up) Fan speed is pretty much the same .. temp also 38-40. It looks like we could push those more with the correct DC/DC component replacement.

50 mins in, 450 Gh/s for the first one.
30 mins in, 409 Gh/s (only) for my second.

End of test for now, back to normal freq.

Thank you for the test.  So am I right in understanding that hash rate went down on one of them when you stepped it up to 225?

Yes, both of them on 225 Mhz. Take in consideration that the second unit at 409 only had 30 mins. A fair test would be like 24 hours but i don't want to risk my miners yet ^_^

I don't know, a 30 minute average should be pretty close to where it would be at 24.  You might see some variation but the difference between 409 and 450 is larger than I would expect to see in 24 hours.  Sounds like there are quite a few under-performing miners in this first batch even after the lowered expectations from Bitmain.

At 218.75 for 3 hours, it was running fine at 438

The units themselves are all around 38-40 but the cables are definitely running hotter than the same setups did with S1's.
I will not be OC'ing these!

As long as they pull less current trough the cables than the S1s overclocked then I highly doubt it, though I guess maybe the S3 defies the laws of physics!

edit: The simple explanation might just be that on the S1 that used a open design some of the airflow was hitting the cables and hence cooling them, now with the S3 there just is no airflow on the cables and they run warmer.

Yea I think that's a very good guess.  I am going to get some additional fans moving air around them so hopefully that will cool them down a bit.  Again, they aren't HOT but they are warm.
better have a big fan shooting at ur miners
so it'll cool of the case itself and the cables(ofc)

i doubt that the case will be really cool, i think it'll be warm
mine at B2, cant confirm my statement HAHAHA

My casing are cold/warn and my cables are cold (using a Corsair RM 1000)

Are you running two S3s of that RM 1000?

Affirmative
1789  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 17, 2014, 07:16:14 PM
I pretty much match the exact same hashrate as you ! 437 after 2 hours. (still going up a bit)

Guys.... can I just say.... I mean can I just say that THESE THINGS ARE FUCKING SILENT.  OMG I LOVE IT!  YESSSS

Temp? Hashrate?

They are in a closet so they might run slightly hotter than some others, but my hashrate hovers just under 460 (between 455-457) and 41 degrees

Looks like i'm not so lucky with mine (436 - 434) atm, 1 hours 20 mins in. For how long are you hasing ? Mines are at around 38-40 degrees.
1792  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 17, 2014, 05:57:05 PM
Anyone know a good source for overclocking instructions for the S3?

use the same guide as in S1 except the file name is "asic-freq" and not "asic-freq.config".

15 min in and i have only 420 and 415 but it's going up...
`
I will try to OC them to 225 later.

35 min in => 428 gh/s and- 432 gh/s, i guess i had a bad start ... closing to the specs

Past luck doesn't affect future luck.

This is very important to understand. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy

You can't switch to a luckier pool, and switch back when luck returns. That's not how luck works.

There is no such thing as pool X having good luck right now. There is only: pool X had good luck the last few hours, but noone knows what luck they will have in the next hours.

If you can tell what luck someone is going to have in the future then by definition we are not talking about luck but something else.

I would have to agree here.  It does seem that the pool's luck is spotty at best.
2 days to make a block (sometimes) are seemingly way too long.
The payouts are decent, but the time between them are discouraging.

The last few days we had some bad luck. But the last month overall was lucky. You have to expect a few unlucky days. Not all days can be lucky. "I'm not lucky every day" does not mean the same as "I'm unlucky every day". Even if it may feel that way sometimes.

Yes, the payouts have been good, and that's probably the most important thing to a miner.

I understand it's frustrating when the unlucky blocks take a long time though. We'll need to increase the hashpower to make them pass faster.

I agree with the Doctor, but my point about 2 bad months still stands.  A bad day or 2 can be ignored, but a bad month or 2 is not exactly fun.

What is not fun is a 7.8% block that is stale ! :-)

For the rest, i don't see luck problem here. People need to stop to press the panic button when we hit a less lucky streak (we solved 6 block in 25 hours just like 2 weeks ago). If you invest in miners, you're taking a lot of risk and if you cannot handle the fact that luck is part of the risk in your investment, you might have do something wrong in your thinking.

I did invest in miner, knowing that i might have NOTHING in 6 month (bitcoin crash, hash rate explode, someone hack the bitcoin ?? name it you got it.)

the "I need more stable income to pay my electricity" bills is complete no-sens to me.

The way I see it, my electricity bills is an investment in the BTC whatever the luck we have.

Just my 2 cents
1796  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 15, 2014, 11:23:43 PM
So I would imagine in batch 1 there is no point in using 4 pci connections.

no in fact this batch may like under volt and under clock    .  maybe 400gh and 240 watts.

my gut tells me batch 1 will prefer the lower then 441 they claim it will do.

400 gh at 240watts will make roi  in 140 days if diff is 12%

initial numbers were:
390W-504Gh
366W-478Gh
now
340W-441Gh
BTW, the table that i have seen does not have values corresponding to 441Gh
I saw 0.72V for 14.18 Gh/s per chip=453.76GH with 240W power (0.528/Gh). i don't think these chip characteristics can be very different, can they?
What was a point of publishing them then?

In addition-if I don't choose anything (coupon/rebate), then 10% coupon will appear automatically, right?

I red somewhere that we have until July 22(around that date)  to use the refund option. After that you will be stuck with the 10% coupon.

1798  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 15, 2014, 04:48:34 PM
BTW,

I sent an email to BitmainTech asking to share what are the specification of the DC/DC component we could use to change the one that is causing downgrade in the spec for our B1-B3.

It would be nice if we could change it to match the first specification of the S3 and OC it to 504gh/s.

Just dreaming maybe Wink
1799  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 15, 2014, 04:37:16 PM
So I clicked on the 10% coupon choice, but now when I click on my coupons there's nothing in there. Where's the 10% coupon?
It is under 'My Applications'

My miners == not shipped  Cry
For those who have shipped, any chance on getting the 'create time' of your order?   Out of curiosity...  Grin

Mines are not shipped in their system (Bitmaintech), but it is when i look into UPS.com.

I checked ups.com but no results as of yet  Undecided
I'll be patient.

Don't forget to use Track by reference ( if you don't have an UPS account and linked your order to it) (edit typo)
