What is the median price for those PSU and how loud are they ? Thanks Smiley

PSUs are usually around 50$ in the US, and noise level is like most of the server PSUs with fans, let's say vacuum cleaner.

Thanks Smiley

If you're going to buy directly from Spoon, they will be, indeed, SP20E.

Well done ! Nice setup Tongue

I haven't dug through this thread, but whats the best fan mod for the Sp20? if this lot on ebay sticks around for a while I might pull the trigger.

I run the factory one, my girldfriend is quite patient, but i have a separate room which I run two of them. one at 40% and the other one at 30%. I run the second one at 30% because he doing an resonating sound which is less present at 30% over 20 and 40%. (Meaning : "Wouannggggggg Wouannnnnnnnnnnnnng Wouannnnnnnnnng")

It's ok outside the room but annoying inside.

ssh to the unit and edit (vi) /etc/mg_custom_mode
It has fan setting.
Set it to 31, or 27, or whatever )

I tried many % ... 30% seems the sweet spot. Otherwise, I still heard the sound wave and i can't handle it
1546  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to tell the difference between S3 and S3+ on: January 28, 2015, 06:49:21 AM
What is the difference exactly between them?

The S3+ is overclockable so 50Ghash/s more?

They had an issue with the the DC/DC converter on some/most of the S3 (maybe a batch issue of that component or a just a flaw in their hardware schematic) Some units will run rock solid at 504 GH/s and others are not overclockable and run within 420-441 gh/s. I bought two S3 Batch 1. I got one very good machine and the other ... not so lucky. Having a hard time to make run to 441 (required many reboot) Sometime the magic happens and it runs at 441 for days but most of the time it is not. My second unit runs a rock solid 504 Gh/s forever.

They kind of fixed the issue with the S3+. I don't own an S3+ but they should be more overclockable.

The factory specs is Hash Rate: 453 GH/są5% with great OC potential for the S3+ versus Hash Rate: 441 GH/są5% for the S3.

Must I really wear underwear? Can I just paint the miner red?

Anyways, nice to see a mining superstition.

I'm going all red from now ! Cheesy
1548  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 27, 2015, 07:56:19 PM

The S5 won't get 1.3TH/s at 650W though, unless your unit is significantly better than mine are.

Hmm I get 650W (119V) on my KillAWatt running 1245GH on a 1000W LEPA Bronze supply with 375mhz.  I did briefly run 390/400mhz with a Gold supply and thought I was averaging about 1.3T/650W but maybe I'll go back and double check...

Thats what I don't get all the SP20 love here.  It takes 960W @ the wall for 1.4/1.45TH on my SP20s.  So I feel like 300W to gain 100/150GH is just a bad deal on the SP20.  Heck thats nearly 50% more power required!

I dunno I just haven't touched my S5s in two weeks, and they are solid.  The amount of messing-around I have done on the SP20E and the number of firmware updates/fluctuating GHs numbers, etc -- well lets just say it reminds me of the early Jups and all the tweaking that was required to get those big chips all happy.

Well I prefer to push my SP20 harder now and lower then later (diff jump). It always depends on so much factor ... for me electricity is cheap, so it's a no-brainer (~1100 watt for like 1560GH)

I got two SP20E, i have one unit that run rock solid and the other one i can see that CGMiner is restarting sometime. I saw like 2 times in the same hours and 1 more 12 hours later. I run CGMiner 4.7.0 Anyone else experienced the same thing ?

Thanks Tongue

what version of firmware is it running on?

same has maverick 2.6.1

i got much less restarts recorded on 2.6.7 and 2.6.9 vs 2.6.1 (this week vs prior week), but beware that 2.6.9 has been downgraded to a test version.

Tried 2.6.9 but had a bit less hashrate, thanks for info. Will wait for the next release !

this is a form of recovery from some hw errors. Nothing to warry about sinse this is not corolated in any way with machine longlivity or performance. The effect on hashrate is under 1% even if you have cgminer restart  every hour.

Allright thanks for the answer. Appreciated.

So i got an SP20E that is a bit more "sensible". I will take it this way ;-)

EDIT: the unit has indeed a very few HW Error, got 2 in the last 18 hours (CGMiner) I think the stats got reset for every CGMiner restart tho.

EDIT: Second unit just did the same thing. A first in the last 24 hours.

I haven't dug through this thread, but whats the best fan mod for the Sp20? if this lot on ebay sticks around for a while I might pull the trigger.

most people are probably waiting for 90 days warranty to run out before going all out with fan mods since the connector is non-standard, so no PWM.

I concur with the 30 vs 20/40 observation, moreover i still think that having your multiple Sp20 hash at various (staggered) fan speeds feels less noisy (at least for me).

Yep I second that.

Also my unit running at 30% is slightly over performing the other one ! Very strange Tongue

Has anyone that has upgraded to firmware 2.6.9 seen slightly slower hash rate? I've flashed 6 SP20's and everyone of then is  10-20GH/s slower vs firmware 2.6.4. Just curious if anyone else is seeing the same.

Yep the same behavior. Less aggressive with the hashrate even if the temp goes down.

On auto fans? Or on any fans?

I tried auto-fan and it's too hot here for my setup in my home. The fan went to 90% on both machine. I run one of them at 40% and the 30% (to avoid an annoying resonating noise)

updated my SP20E with the lastest firmware and I also see that my miner doesn't react the same way with the Asic temp. Looks like it's less aggressive. My temp are going down and the speed doesn't ajust.

I will roll back to 2.6.1

Really, ok I'll look into it

Maybe call DHL ?
1559  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] sp20 from canada on: January 24, 2015, 02:34:37 AM
There are some good sellers out there, Ive done business with lots already.  Spond direct will be my last option.  They make a good machine.

I don't know how it's been possible but I bought some SP20 from spoon directly and I didn't pay a dime of import taxes.

I even call DHL who called the their custom and they said "you don't have to pay anything".

Might be an error Tongue

EDIT: from my understanding, I might found why ... i red that there is no "arrangement" between Israel and our country, therefore no custom for that specific product. Maybe someone can say otherwise, which I wouldn't be surprise.
1560  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Canadian miner here. I buy your used mining stock. Up to 260 USD / TH.s^-1 on: January 23, 2015, 10:06:50 PM
Hi quakefiend420,

Since I pay with Paypal, you will receive the funds before shipping. The only thing is that I am eligible for buyer's protection from Paypal. So, if things go wrong and you don't ship, there can be a chargeback.

I won't do payment upfront in BTC.

Thank you,

And if things go right and we do ship you can still perform a chargeback and rip someone off.  There's many reasons this whole Bitcoin thing even exists, and PayPal's shoddy business practices is just one small one.  If you're not willing to trust a known escrow or a known trader on here with tons of successful trades, why should anyone be willing to trust you?

Max, since you're a new member without any trust rating i would suggest you use an escrow like OGNasty. Not only you'll able to create you some trust on this forum but it will also protect yourself and the seller at the same time. It's a win-win situation

Just my 2 cents Tongue

Good luck !
