FINALLY figured it out. I had my bitcoin-qt client listening on an RPC port before with server=1 in order to communicate with it via some custom coded program I had previously made. I simply commented out the server=1 and rpc* settings in the bitcoin.conf file and bam its working!!

and in windows can be found in c:\users\yourusername\appdata\roaming\bitcoin
to be able to see the appdata folder you need to show your hidden folders http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/show-hidden-files-windows-7.htm

Well the only way the change from discussing full bitcoins to mbtc will happen is if we as a community start using mbtc instead of simply full bitcoins

I disabled my firewall and that didn't help. Is there a setting that keeps armory in offline mode? here is my export log, looks like it's set to be in offline mode or something

When we speak about 1 bitcoin costing $560 dollars many people are immediately turned away from the idea of investing in it simply due to "I have to pay 560 bucks just to own 1!!! wow I can't afford that" type of scenario. To attract more investors I propose that when we speak about bitcoins or when we put a price tag on goods/services that we talk about milibits (0.001 bitcoins). Each milibit right now would currently be worth $0.56 (56 cents) and thus people could buy into bitcoin and own 170+ milibits for $100. On the flip side people don't want to spend $100 on 0.17 bitcoins (talking to the general population I've even come to find that people didn't even know that a person could own fractions of a bitcoin).

I know it's just a psychological game, but I think it has some merit when it comes to the general public.

I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks about the topic. Feel free to leave comments/suggestions below Smiley

No, but I understand where this is coming from. This was one of the first questions I asked about Electrum too:

The seed is a 128bit random number generated by a computer. Computers are better at generating random numbers than human beings. The seed in words is merely a human friendly representation of the numerical seed. Changing the way it is presented does not change the fact that it has 128bits of entropy.

I'd like to pick up the items super cheap, even if it's no longer working that is still fine since I will simply be placing them in separate plastic-type clear boxes for display. I'm also looking for any caseius coins if you have them (spent is just fine)

My personal opinion is that the distribution of gox accounts would differ from the general distribution of bitcoins. A few reasons why I believe so:

1) US deposits/withdrawls were very difficult once they were restricted meaning that you take most of the US distribution of btc out of the picture
2) Mt Gox has been around for a very long time, meaning that early investors in bitcoin may have had very large bitcoin sums within their mt gox account
    --comparing that to lets say coinbase, which didn't come around until individual bitcoins were much more expensive and thus I'd bet that the total number of bitcoins held at CB or bought from CB and held in a personal wallet is less than those at mt gox

Bitcoin is not centralized. That would be similiar to stating the video card companies were the central issuing agency when video cards were used to mine.

However, in the case of a global economic crash, bitcoin would be really the only way to easily move wealth from one place to another. I couldn't imagine carrying a pocket of gold dust with me, or mailing someone a gold coin in order to purchase distant items...

Honestly I think the price of bitcoin could easily hit $5000 if any of the following occur:

1) A country in financial trouble adopts it
2) Merchants rapidly adopt it as a payment option
3) Becomes easily spendable in brick and motor stores (IE QR code scanning to pay for your shirt/beer/groceries etc)
4) There is collapse of a major currency
5) There is massive inflation or "quantitative easing" of a fiat currency

IMO stating that bitcoins will never hit $5000.....is.....well, delusional Cheesy
