talk is easy
I and we all need proof
Beside travelling to Israel and meeting the team I can't really provide a "proof"
We're real.
We're working (http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog)
We're shipping.

I will be traveling out to visit them later this week, and have already recived their machines:
http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/spondoolies-tech-sp10-dawson-1-5th-bitcoin-miner
bob, when you are there you can take snapshots, and upload here. That would be awesome!!

When does bob get to the facilities in Israel? And will he be allowed picture taking??

-will help my decision making in purchasing another unit or 2
Sure
Don't expect to see a lot of miners in our office.
so he is not going to see the assembly plant?
We've finished April batch, so there is no point to go visit Flextronics.

ST, do you imagine a time in the future where you ship only from stock?

It sounds as if you have built a solid product, but the whole pre-order process ads an enormous amount of additional speculation to an already highly speculative investment.

Thank you for your compliment.
We build, test and ship as fast as we can.
You need to consider lead times. It was discussed last time here:

WA State DC hosting deal for SP30:

100$ - one time installation fee (covering work, PDU cable, Ethernet cable, Rack-Mounting "ears")
290$ per month for 6 months commitment
One month deposit is needed

Backed up by UPS and generator.  ASHREA environmental SLA.

Per the group sale deal, first month (290$) or free shipping to your chosen destination is included.

If you choose to be included in this hosting deal, we'll charge you for shipping.
Assuming enough customers will choose to host, we'll ship bulk and reduce shipping costs. We don't have the exact figure yet.

We're working on cloud control panel that will allow full access to the miner web GUI.

Spondoolies have already secured a great DC deal in WA exactly for people who don't have to worry about power issues in their tiny apartment. I don't get what are you trying to say.

Is there any information available about this deal?

Soon. It's a very good one Wink

Its obviously a deal with MegaBigPower.  I used to live in that area and power is 2c a kilowatt.  They are able to do cloud hosting for rather cheap in Douglas County.  Too bad I moved before I started mining.  I would have opened a cloud mining warehouse too Wink
No. It's real DC with UPS, SLA, etc.
Details soon.

I did the math on the SP30 (the 3x package) and it doesn't look like this hardware will ROI with current prices.
Please correct me if I'm wrong:

You're in RoadStress group sale thread. Did you read the PM ?
The hardware cost is much cheaper...

The render may be misleading. SP30 will have 80mm fans
Is there anything else 'misleading' that we should know about?  The more things the manufacture 'misleads' me on, the more plans I have to discard and start over.  Would any of the other things you are misleading your customers on have the word 'August' in there?

RawDog, we never hinted or said that the SP30 is a done product. We've said from the get go that it's under development.
What we're committed to is the spec: 5.4 THs +- 10%, 2500 Watt, 2U rack mounted form factor.
The first SP30s will be shipped to customers in July. This is another commitment.
It's actual look may be a bit different from the SolidWorks rendering in the web site.

The below is not targeted towards RawDog:
Please don't start another cycle of commitment vs terms of sales.
1869  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 21, 2014, 02:47:18 PM
I mostly meant it as a reply to the guy trying to figure out how to make them quieter in a home environment.  Mod the case and use bigger fans.

Bigger fans have nothing to do with it. I believe it was confirmed that the psu is what makes them so noisy.

Yeah, right...What about standard 80mm fans with higher air-flow @ lower RPM...2U PSU with 80mm too...

Fixes are usually to correct something...which is not right to begin with...usually called "mistakes"... Wink

The main noise is not from the psu, it is from the high cfm 40mm fans, and while the noise level is high, the main problem in a home environment is that the sound is very whiny (high pitch).
I can only speculate that the noise will be a lower pitch sound with the sp30s, as they use 80mm fans.

Why donīt you just install ac in your garage and put the units there,
that should take care of most of the sound problems.

I guess some custom enclosure would also be a solution but you should take care of high enough airflow, as the risk of heat-choking your units in a smaller space is obviously higher.
There are also some directly cooled, closed racks available for sale with 10kw+ cooling per rack already installed. Close the rack door and some noise is already gone.

ughhh how about NO?

SP30 will use 2 x 1u PSUs...... did you see the render?

For setting the record straight, the PSU noise becomes dominant only in quite mode (~1.35). In regular mode (~1.45) our fans create the dominant noise. As Guy said, SP30 will have bigger fans. Also, if Emerson don't fix the noise issue, SP30 will most probably have different PSU.

For the SP30, we'll use two 1200 Watt PSUs. We're evaluating:

Emerson              P/N DS1200-3-002
http://www.artesyn.com/power/power-supplies/websheet/401/DS1200

Murata                 P/N D1U3CS-W-1200-12-HA4C
http://www.murata-ps.com/en/products/ac-dc-power-supplies/1u-front-end/d1u4-w-1200-12-ha1c-6.html

None of them has the noise issue in low power as the Emerson 1050 we're using in SP10

The PSU has one or more small fans as well, though it does sound like that might eventually get quieter with a firmware fix.

Small fans have to spin faster to move air and are therefore almost always much noisier than bigger fans given the same cooling requirement. 1250 watts in 1.25 U is a lot. Cooling that with 40 mm fans will likely always be at least somewhat noisy.

Also correct.

We have fw control on the fans, so with proper ambient temperature, we can reduce the fan noise considerably.
Of course it also depends on the mining mode: "Quiet" / Normal / Turbo

Indeed. Still waiting for firmware fix from Emerson. Getting much better results with a larger model or other vendor.

Anyway, i dont think its even worth it to build a silent room for SP10, or SP30. Just remove all those 40mm fans completely and build an air chamber with bigger fans.

Have to agree with that. The 1.25 U form factor is pretty pointless. Bigger fans are much quieter, end of story.

Shipping costs ?
Deployment in high density DC ?

Give us a bit credit we know what we're doing.

Hmm
No KNC "20nm" in the list. I'm wondering why...

Timmah,

Appreciate that review/comment...

I too have felt the 1.25u is a mis-step in design.  4u would have been much better.

 - Not many DC's can handle > 12kW per rack
 - 120mm vs 40mm fans (improved cooling and lower noise)
 - Potential for ATX PSUs (easier for user replacement)

I was not aware that the heat issues were as severe as noted.  I planned to not have more than 8 per rack as well (<12kW).

For DC with "regular" power and heat density, 8 units per rack is indeed make sense. There is no need to space them 4U apart, but since the rack can only provide 12KW, it doesn't change anything.
Our own high density data center can handle up to 32 units per rack.
1878  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 12:38:39 PM
I thought nearly all US facilities were air-conditioned to the point that even in summer you need to wear a jacket indoors XD.

I guess if the temperature is regularly over 40°C some air conditioning might be apropriate?
Yes. 40°C is the maximum allowed ambient temperature from safety standpoint.

If, for some unknown reason, someone intend to operate his miner at above 40°C ambient temperature (say, some days in the summer in Israel without AC) we can update the firmware to allow it, at the expanse of hash-rate
1879  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Special Group Buy - Spondoolies-Tech SP30 pre-order] ***EASTER WEEK SALE*** on: April 20, 2014, 12:29:50 PM
From a practical standpoint, there isnīt too much they can do.

If they donīt deliver a product then you will be entitled your money back, fraud protection law covers you there.

As far as the exact timescale goes, it is ofcourse in the hands of the company to get everything out of the door on time.
However, what i have seen from them by now, they deployed the 1st generation on time, even finishing shipping faster than the deadlines.
(A reminder: all April units have already shipped, and April still has 10 days....)

Therefore it isnīt too much of a gamble trusting the August delivery will be on time, especially as chips are already scheduled to arrive early-mid July and a few early bird
orders will actually be fulfilled by the end of July.

IF they for any reason donīt make the deadline, i am sure they will figure out some kind of compensation.

On a side note: Hashfast had a protection against late delivery, but nobody has yet received any compensation although nearly all of their products are late, and refund requests are often ignored, although they were promised.

Very accurate. You've saved me a lot of writing. Thanks.

Some dates:
1st gen ASICs arrived on 27 February, we had testing boards ready and working in the same day and fully working miners within 3 days (due to the weekend...)
We're taping out RockerBox in the beginning-mid of May, we'll have the ASICs ready in the beginning-mid of July.
We've already sold out our July batch (small number of miners). We'll ship all July batch during July.
We'll start producing August batch by the end of July.

As already discussed in our thread, the RockerBox ASIC is a relative simple die shrink (40nm -> 28nm) of our 1st gen Hammer ASIC. Same engine, etc.
We're doing extensive verification and FPGA simulation nevertheless.
The entire project is on track for delivery on time and on spec.

We intend to be here for a long time. In case of a Force Majeure event that will cause a delay. We'll find a way to compensate our customers and make them whole.
We don't intend to discuss the exact mechanism because it won't happen.

The deceitful respond would be "full refunds".
1880  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 12:16:40 PM
Spondoolies, did you say something earlier in the thread about running the SP10 at above 35 degrees ambient (spec limit)?

It's per safety requirement. We did test at a much higher temperature of course:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg5938665#msg5938665

The recommended ambient temperature is 20C
You'll get better results with colder ambient temperature

Update from Benny, our HW engineer:

Last time I was at the safety lab I was told that we can update the Max ambient temperature to 40C.
This is due to the fact that at first the tester used an early FW version. After I updated it, the tester got better results which allowed him to approve the 40C limit.

The are limitations to the max allowed temperature of the top and bottom cover from safety POV.
working in higher ambient temperature than 40C, will make us cross these limits.
