1901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: July 12, 2020, 11:03:56 PM
If you need to go with the two psus, I would power the board and the first few GPUs with one PSU and the rest of the gpus with the 2nd PSU.  I have done this before and it works.  If you are using psu's that can be synced like the Antec HCP, hook up the sync cord so they both turn on and off together.  Alternatively, you need to make sure to turn on psu 2 then psu 1.  When you shutoff, do it in the opposite order: 1 and then 2.

this is the way i have my onda d8p (a similar mobo), all mobo connections and a 2-3 gpus on one psu, and the remaining gpus 6/8 pin connectors on the 2nd.

i used a add2psu (a relay) to control both psus from the motherboard power button. makes it easier as you dont have to worry about the order of psus turning on/off. not strictly needed though.

attempts to manage liquidation in a way that is prudent, reasonable and either tries to maximize incremental cash out given that such cash out is also within a timeline that has been authorized by the HODLer....
in this case authorized by the hodlers wife Grin

Poor lil vapourminer.  sucks to be uie.   Cry Cry Cry

*whimper*

oh wait

edit: on a more serious note..

back in the day when i started GPU mining bitcoin my (our) plan was sell 1/2 keep 1/2 to see where bitcoin went.  the selling was to cover the hardware and electric. well obviously it went way past each of our expectations. so for a bit when we wanted fiat for lifestyle upgrades more came from corn.

then it was "yikes price very very moon in progress" so stuff came from mostly fiat at that point

now when i want some fiat for whatever, i try to draw kinda a little bit sorta vaguely equally from all assets.

Ot oh

After watching this topic for a while I guess I decided to invest a few hundred bucks in yolodice too. This rollercoaster looks fun. I wish there were more trusted casinos that accept investors' money. Yolodice looks safe enough. It will be a good addition to my freebitco.in investment.

Yolo dice,  Mindrust approved!

OMG! Why do I get a sense that mindrust is going to be mindrusted (again)?

1906  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Collection of 18.509 found and used Brainwallets on: July 11, 2020, 12:32:16 PM
I think it would be a good idea if wallet software included a blacklist of such addresses, as well as known weak brainwallets, showing an additional dialog with a strong warning that funds may be permanently lost (or stolen) if the transaction proceeds. Checking any generated (inbound) addresses against the list would also help catch any glaring address generation bugs. (An assert that the result must not equal <hash of empty string> after each call to sha256 or ripemd160 would have caught this error.)

centralized database of bad addys?

may sound good on 1st glance but nope for me.

maybe check against some private, local blacklist maintained by the user but thats up the user.

EDIT: saw that post was 7 months old oops

gonna sell some corn soon for reasons. expect the price to rise as a result.
I know when WO sell their corns then they are in bad need. I really hope everything is fine for you and you get some good value from the corns you will sell.

thank your for your thoughts. but im just buying new toys.

when i need a set amount by a particular time i try to dollar cost my way out. so in a month i would set up (say) four periods of sells on en exchange, one for each week. if at weeks end they didnt sell all or any at that weeks prices, ill sell the 25% anyway, then set up the next weeks sell. then 2 more weekly sells to finish the month and get my needed amount.

naturally i will just pull on the spot whatevers needed in an emergency.
1908  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: same private key? on: July 11, 2020, 11:27:30 AM
It's always worth noting the caveat to this - if you have revealed your extended public key (as you might do when setting up a watch only wallet), then the additional knowledge of the private key of one single address in that wallet would allow an attacker to calculate all the private keys in that wallet.

yup. good reminer. didnt know that way back when i set some some watch only wallets.. soon as i realized that i moved everything off to a new wallet.

I have a Lenovo M58 computer that was left out in the rain, and I will experiment with reviving this, and if possible I will install Kali and the shape shift software. The computer has been drying out over the last month, and if I can find a USB keyboard, I'll experiment with it during the next few days.

as long as it was powered off at the timeit will likely be OK. just let it dry for an extended amount ot time as you have done. mechanical drives and battery would not be trustable but other that that should be fine. i regularly wash cases, motherboards and keyboards by hand or in dishwashers when i refurbish junker PCs for donations or just to keep as backup machines.

toss a cheapie SDD in, maybe oil the fans if you can get to them. waterlogged optical drives are hit and miss but they are dirt chap anyway.

but again i dont like trusting (laptop) battery packs that have gone through stuff like that. damn thing can burn underwater ffs

EDIT: this is a desktop? then replace the mechanical drive, check or toss new fans in, replace the cr232 battery. good to go.

unless that liquid was corrosive or something. but flood damage (fresh or grey water) is usually OKish. however some floodwater carries some really nasty pathogens (sewage! eeew) and chemicals, bleh

of course salt water is death to electronics usually.

Real friends don't talk about politics because doing so is bad for friendship.

Yeah. I get it. I'll show myself to the door.

jbreher likes to pump them up too, I wonder why that is?  He might want to chime his picnic bear ass into the mix, as well.

I don’t pump coinbase up so much as I point out that for a good number of use cases, they are apparently the best option.

ive sent people there (USA) as its easy and about as legal as you can get (insured regulated etc). add they have whitelist withdrawal addys and that vault thing for long (well medium to us) term storage. they can use yubikeys as addition 2FA

for peeps that dont really get the reasons and tech like hardware wallets and such, understanding seeds, private keys and all that stuff thats second nature to us its not bad.

later as they learn they can pull the corn to a proper wallet.

we have been able to visit friends though, we will visit and hang on their decks which can accommodate us with space to social distance. or vice versa. and we just bring our own drinks and snacks.

and instead of going out to businesses we have done a lot of nature walks and exploring nearby.

my moon suit is still in the basement gathering dust since 2017. better check its systems out and make sure its ready.

edit: crap i need to lose weight. it must of shrunk around the middle during storage as its a bit tight.
1919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: same private key? on: July 09, 2020, 01:03:03 PM
I suppose when you think about it, the chances of someone randomly guessing your email and bank password are much higher than getting access to your BTC.  Email 30 characters max and passwords 6 to 16. That is a lot less combinations to try. Wink

except the bank will lock your online access after a set number of failed logins, typically three.

the only limit to how many guesses you can try for bitcoin private key is your computational power.

Please tell me i did not just read that he is keeping his bitcoins (having a total current value of $27,789) long term on a mobile phone ?

Yup. That's right. $25,000 worth of coins in Mycelium on a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (at least it's not a 7!). He has backed up the seed in paper form (IIRC) and has also set up a spending PIN in case the phone is lost or stolen. He should at least get it out of his phone and just keep the seed. Will tell him next time we talk.

fwiw, while i wouldnt trust a phone wallet with that much corn for years and years, i have had the same mycelium wallet on my phones since my samsung note 4. only spending money type amounts. i just reenter the seed into the new phone as i upgrade. never had an issue. although the notes/label i enter for a transaction like "this amount for this thing" doesnt  transfer, just the full tx history and balance.

gonna need to be careful moving them out of the wallet as he may want to salvage the bcash_lol and bsv (eeeeww)

im glad btc may be a (the?) key to this persons financial stability. but we know thats what bitcoin does.
