1981  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BlockFi Bankruptcy - Creditors Thread – Updates & Help -Lets get some funds back on: January 23, 2023, 09:34:56 PM
Small update.

I messaged Kroll with some questions regarding filling out the claim form, they replied with a dismissive "we are not permitted to provide legal advice, including advising you regarding how to complete the proof of claim form" etc, but also included interesting info:

Quote
BlockFi has filed a motion requesting approval from the Bankruptcy Court to restore withdrawal activities for BlockFi Wallet accounts (Docket No. 121).  BlockFi anticipates this motion will be heard by the Bankruptcy Court at the hearing currently scheduled for January 24, 2023, at 10:00am ET.  While the motion is pending, withdrawals from BlockFi continue to be paused.  BlockFi also continues to ask clients not to submit any deposits to BlockFi Wallet or Interest Accounts.  BlockFi encourages clients to maintain their BlockFi app and account at this time.  Any claims filed against the Debtors will be addressed through the chapter 11 process.

So the hearing regarding BlockFi's motion to allow clients' withdrawals from their "wallet" accounts will be held tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, if approved, you could only withdraw the balance held at the time of "pausing" withdrawals, which, I believe, according to BlockFi was 10th November at 8.15 pm, so before any pause had been properly communicated. Meaning people i.e. transferred their holdings from their Interest account to their Wallet account after that time, not only won't be able to withdraw but likely in the end will get less money as if the remaining funds were distributed proportionally to every creditor.
1982  Economy / Exchanges / Binance P2P - any experience/opinions? on: January 23, 2023, 09:20:41 PM
Some time ago I started to entertain the idea of becoming a seller on the Binance P2P Trading platform, but not sure if it's worth it, and to be fair, I don't quite understand that market.

I can get the technicalities from Binance FAQs and guidance, but struggling to understand who would actually use P2P Trading for buying, as it seems more expensive than the traditional way of using bank cards or fiat deposits. Is it targeted at people from jurisdictions where banks are banning transfers to crypto exchanges?

Has anyone ever used Binance P2P at all and would like to share their experience? Any feedback, whether from buyers or sellers, is welcome.
1983  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Advice on choosing a crypto casino on: January 23, 2023, 06:55:11 PM
...
The best thing you can do is that you can choose any of the casinos where you find good reviews on a review site or even on this bitcointalk forum  gambling ANN threads and start playing on that casino. With the passage of time you can get to know about more casinos and you will find which casino suits you best.

Review sites oftentimes are not the most reliable source of information. The small, independent bitcoin casinos review websites/blogs etc can actually be sponsored articles, and even if they're not, the authors would likely try to get some revenue from the referral programs, which can incentivise them to present the promoted casinos in an overly positive light.

Other ones, like trustpilot or google reviews, can be full of fake reviews, especially on an early stage of operations.
But in terms of bitcoin casinos, if it has been operating for a while and doesn't have any ongoing or unresolved scam accusations on bitcointalk, that's a good indication of it being legit. That of course does not guarantee any safety, as even a legit business can make mistakes, get hacked etc.

O dziwo aktywność nieco podskoczyła w porównaniu do 2021, choć był to rok pompy, więc wydawałoby się że zainteresowanie tematem powinno być wyższe:

Hey, quick question: for the purpose of the Referral Program, what's your view of someone registering a domain with a similar name to yours and redirecting the traffic to you via the affiliate link? I think most businesses won't mind that but I've seen a few having a problem with such practices, as they see it as 'stealing traffic' etc.

This is not a good idea for any reason!
...

No worries, I understand. On one hand, there would be a benefit for you of referrers bearing the costs of various domain extensions and similar names (with traffic ending up on your site anyway), but on the other hand - they wouldn't be bringing any new traffic but rather capitalising on people already looking for you but just mistyping the url etc. So I get why you're not happy about the idea. Won't be doing that then Smiley

"Yo!Mix Bitcoin Mixer Signature Campaign| Reward up to $100/w | 2/2 escrow" has 4 open positions for sr member pay rate which has been announced by the campaign manager Royse777. Anyone can apply who is in the rank of sr or above but the pay rate will be as a sr member.
We are working on checking the posts history of the campaigners. In the mean time we have 4 X Open slots. All are for Sr payroll which means Sr.+ members only can apply.

That didn't last too long. That campaign is now CFNP:

Does anyone know if there are actually any P Vs P games that players can put something at stake and compete against others to win the pot? I'm not talking about strictly gambling games like poker and alike, but more about the 'traditional' games like e.g. car racing etc.

The concept seems so simple that I would be surprised if nobody came up with it so far, but then again, I'm massively out of the loop in terms of video games.

Any links and opinions are welcome.

Wow. That is an absolutely massive amount of money to lose in hopes of making a 1% gain. I wonder how many times that gambler has thrown around giant sums of money to get an easy score. I also wonder if this will be the last time this is attempted or if they’re so rich that 1.4 million is just play money to them. This is a great tale though for gamblers who chase the easy victories. There are no sure bets.

My educated guess is that he must've done it in the past and it paid off, so he kept going. Or maybe it was just a drunk, impulse betting.

I wonder if he had an opportunity to make another 99% win-chance bet of $140 mil to recoup the lost $1.4 mil, would he do it? I'm pretty sure he would with little or no hesitation.

Well done you. I don't expect they'll get a fortune from crypto donations, but still, it doesn't cost them anything to have such option.

And also now they're the only business in the world accepting clams  Grin Grin Grin (excluding JustDice that is)

Bitcoin donation are still at zero. Anyone fancy making the very first, historic BTC donations to those poor puppies? I might throw a little bit after I get paid for whoring my signature if I'm feeling generous.

2. Casino B:
PvP casino where players compete against each others in games such as Poker, Rummy, Ludo, 8Pool, Monopoly, Race Cars, Flipcoin, etc..., with the prize being your opponents buy-in amounts.

I prefer B for the entertainment value. But looking purely from the profitability perspective, any online PvP games that are played online and where there are big money involved, will have a high risk of being abused by bots. And as we already know, there are pretty much no skill/strategy games left where computers can't outperform people. You can win short term (i.e. few hands in poker) but, in the long-run, you're doomed to fail, as computers don't make mistakes.

But there's another form of P2P gambling that I find quite interesting: P2P sports/events betting, where odds are determined by the amounts wagered on each side of the bet. In this kind of betting, there's a big chance of getting a really good odds if you go against the grain.

Skoro nie posiadaja szczegolnej regulacji, to byc moze niekoniecznie musza cokolwiek zglaszac, choc tu pewnie wchodzi w gre masa roznych przepisow i niescislosci.

1995  Economy / Economics / Re: A Bank of America Glitch Sent Customers Into a Panic Over Missing Funds on: January 20, 2023, 04:33:19 PM
this is a traditional type of banking where when they make a mistake they will only apologize and not give compensation,,, but when the customer makes a mistake they will blame them .. moreover they don't provide any protection which really makes me wonder why customers don't care about this from the start

This reminds me of a situation from years ago in the UK, when some cash machines developed some weird glitch and were paying out the double of the amount requested by users. The banks and the national media started the outcry that if people don't return the overpaid money, they'd be accused of theft/fraud. So essentially blaming customers for the faulty machines.
I still think that you shouldn't be keeping money paid out to you in error, but it's on banks to take responsibility for that and to organise a convenient way such money could be returned.

That is exact reason I don't add low odds on my coupons. ...

Same here. The expected winnings are almost never worth the risk. If anything I'd more likely go the other way and bet a tiny amount on the underdog, I think that's a situation when you're most likely to see actual decent odds and a positive expected value bet. But I haven't tried that as a long betting strategy yet.
1998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A day for representation of Bitcoin on: January 19, 2023, 10:23:25 PM
El Salvador's President Nayeb Bukel bought at the wrong time and thus wasted a lot of money that his people paid and then continued to buy, which means that either he does not have economic advisors and this is a disaster, or he has and the disaster is greater.

What are you even saying here?
If you bought bitcoin at the wrong entry which is high and the market goes down, what do you do?

Do you sell at loss and not buy again.
Or you continue with DCA to buy more at low if you have the fund?

He took a risk and it didn't pay off (this could change though). If he hit the bottom and the price skyrocketed after he bought - he would get all the praise, so, on the same token, it's fair to give him a little criticism when things went not his way.
Also, I could be wrong, but I think he did a little brag on twitter after BTC went briefly up after the first purchase(s) - so yeah, you can't take credit without accepting responsibility.

And it didn't look like DCA was a plan from the start.

I'm not saying El Salvador shouldn't be buying bitcoin, but whoever makes such decision should be held accountable.
1999  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Influencers, affiliate links and scams on: January 19, 2023, 10:11:08 PM
My bitcoin journey begun with this forum and a number of youtube channels about bitcoin. At first I was subscribing to most of them to show my appreciation for their work, but after a while it became obvious that most of them do it for the money, to get various sponsorships, using their audience like a guru is using his followers to work for him. They weren't giving anything to their audience, but trying to make the audience do things for them, like using referral links, buying coins they were recommending, paying for limited content. Also, they had no real content on their channels. It was all news from other social media like coindesk with their own comment on top and a more catchy title. It was always something big and exciting and in reality just another shitcoin with their own promo code.

Avoid these people like plague. You can easily recognize them by their explosive thumbnails. There's always a lot of exclamation marks and stupid headlines like
Is this over?
Is bitcoin done?
Crypto manipulation!
Warning to all holders!
Big pump incoming!
These coins will explode in 2023!

See something like that? Tell Youtube you don't want to see such content.

To play the devil's advocate for a bit:
1 - They must've done something right, as you yourself admit they introduced you to Bitcoin.
2 - Creating good content takes a whole lot of time and effort. To be able to deliver good quality, well-research content on a regular basis, there must be some sort of compensation (aka income). Add revenue on YT vids is not as high as people might think and it's very easy for a video to get demonetized. So almost all content creators have to resort to other means of generating revenue (referrals, sponsorships, selling courses etc). That's not inherently wrong.
3 - The ugly truth about attention-grabbing thumbnails is that they work. We all know it's a cheap trick but we all fall for it. Your eye might not even register the presence of non-flashy, "honest" thumbnail if it's surrounded by attention-grabbing ones, that's a flaw in human psychology.

So to evaluate content creators, I'd be focussing on whether they have integrity, competency and if they deliver truly valuable content rather than just looking at the thumbnails they use or whether or not they use referral links etc.
2000  Economy / Economics / Re: MtGOX + FTX = GTX on: January 19, 2023, 07:49:47 PM
Yes it’s not a bad idea however the only way this is possible is if the liquidator allows GTX to be able to settle claims for certain creditors. Which they won’t allow.

Because right now I can say that I had $100,000,000 worth of assets on FTX and I’ll sell you my claim for 0.01%. And how will the purchaser be able to prove its valid and true? The website is down. If it was back up and they enabled that FTX Send option where you could send your FTX bucks to another FTX customer within the exchange then I can see it working. However that is clearly not the case here.

I guess the assumption is that there are reliable records available and that value of claims for each customer can be determined and verified, rather than self-reported. In such case, you would just register on the new platform as a former customer of Gox/FTX, verify your id and then you'll see your available for trade balance.

The website being down doesn't mean that there are no records anymore.

But that's probably sounds easier than it would be in practice, as the litigation is ongoing, it may be impossible to determine with 100% accuracy what is each creditor entitled to (as not all of them are former customers) + possibly dozens of other obstacles.
