$14 Trillion Earthquake: Fidelity And BlackRock Are Quietly Laying The Groundwork For The Next Bitcoin, Ethereum And Crypto Price Bull Run

https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2023/03/21/14-trillion-earthquake-fidelity-and-blackrock-are-quietly-laying-the-groundwork-for-the-next-bitcoin-ethereum-and-crypto-price-bull-run/?sh=540efc356759

Quote
The bitcoin price has added around 70% since the beginning of the year as traders brace for a potential Federal Reserve u-turn, helping the ethereum price rally.

Amid the brutal crypto winter that's erased almost $2 trillion of value from the market, two of the world's largest financial institutions with a combined $14 trillion in assets under management—Fidelity and BlackRock—are quietly expanding into the world of bitcoin, ethereum and cryptocurrency.
(...)
Last year, Fink predicted crypto's blockchain technology will usher in "the next generation for markets" after signing a major deal with bitcoin and crypto exchange Coinbase.

Meanwhile, Fidelity Investments has now opened up its crypto trading platform to its 37 million users to buy and sell bitcoin and ethereum commission-free, it was first reported by The Block.

To be fair, I don't recall ever hearing about Fidelity Investments before, but if that's true that they introduced Bitcoin and crypto to their 37 million user base at the beginning of March, that could've surely added some fuel to the recent mini-pump.
1583  Economy / Speculation / Re: Banks have just been given permission to do YOLO trades on: March 21, 2023, 10:15:40 PM
So if banks can have 2% of their reserves in bitcoin and ... they just get permission to do yolo trades ... how possible is it in your opinion that most of them will load risky assets (including bitcoin) and, in case of success, pay  themselves generous bonuses, and in case of failure, the FED is here to bail them out?

First of all, we already know that they would pay themselves hefty bonuses disregarding whether they're profitable or on the verge of collapse. Second, the 2% seems modest enough not to cause overexposure, and, on the same token, won't make that much of a positive impact in case of success. Especially assuming that if the crypto goes up, they'd have to sell any excess above 2%.

So personally I'm rather indifferent to this idea.
1584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying cheap is best formula on: March 21, 2023, 09:52:14 PM
The price of BTC is unlikely to double in the next 3 months. Well-known analysts predict reaching and fixing at $30k by the middle or end of the year.
But you should still buy some BTC at any time if you’re so optimistic.

Out of curiosity, can you name a few of them? That's a very conservative prediction, given we're already very close to breaking $30k.

As someone once said, relying on technical analysis price prediction is like driving a car while looking in the rearview mirror. There's zero guarantee that previous patterns will keep repeating themselves. If it was that easy we'll all be filthy rich by now.
1585  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 21, 2023, 09:40:03 PM
The best way to learn the answer for this is by creating your own strategy ...

I don't understand why so many people repeat the "find your own strategy" mantra like it was some sort of unquestionable truth. It's not. The average gambler is very unlikely, on their own, to come up with anything close to say Kelly criterion, counting cards strategy, or a mathematical formula for finding arbitrage opportunities etc.
The best bet for most is to take advantage of the wisdom that it's already there. There's no need to reinvent the wheel.

1586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Low demands as bitcoin declined in price. on: March 21, 2023, 09:28:53 PM
Bitcoin price can never be stable, even if the chart is showing pump signs, there will be corrections and there will be consolidations, this is a normal movement for Bitcoin price action,

Why can't it be stable exactly? Sure, it'll never lock at a certain price forever and there will always be some price action. Still, it's somewhat expected that Bitcoin will become less volatile upon reaching its maximum adoption. I expect it at, some point, to achieve stability similar to the gold market.

1587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Low demands as bitcoin declined in price. on: March 20, 2023, 08:09:49 PM
I'm not getting op when Bitcoin starts to rise create this thread. How can prices rise if there is no demand?

Well, if the supply drops even faster than demand, than the price goes up  Grin Grin

I'm struggling to make sense of the OP's post. I think he most likely means that there's a growing demand expressed as amounts of money, but at the same time is dropping in terms of number of people wanting to buy bitcoins (i.e. number of new wallets?).
Not worth discussing unless there's a source of data.
1588  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 20, 2023, 08:00:41 PM
Yup, prediction is just a prediction it can be wrong, the best strategy is not to play all the money in one game or series of games. Because, every match will have an uncertain outcome. we know, in sports maybe there is a 70% chance of winning for favorite teams, and 30% is surprise results (lose or draw). That why we should doing strategy to not to go all in. Gamblers need to anticipate any chance whatever it is, that don't match our predictions, so if that happens there is still a chance to bet in another game.

As it has been discussed in this thread ad nauseam - chance of winning is just one of the factors to consider when choosing strategy or simply deciding whether to take a bet or not. I think that's a common mistake people make, focussing solely on probability of winning, which can result in situations like the one described in this topic: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds!

1591  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-15] Forbes - How Africans Are Using Bitcoin Without Internet Access on: March 20, 2023, 07:20:29 PM
The moment when you are going through some centralized cellphone service provider, it is not decentralized anymore.... right?

The idea is to just replace (also centralised) Internet Service Providers with mobile phones service providers. This doesn't have much to do with (de)centralisation of Bitcoin network. The main concern is whether the app itself (Machankura) has control over your funds or not.

I work part-time in Africa on contract basis and I know first hand how challenging their Internet can be, but they have Internet Cafe's there with WIFI that people are using. One thing I can say..... they are very innovative with their solutions.  Grin

As the old proverb says: necessity is the mother of invention.
1592  Other / Archival / Re: ✅ [ANN] [banned mixer] | Bitcoin Mixer | Bitcoin Tumbler | Since 2019 ✴️✴️ on: March 19, 2023, 09:24:44 PM
Be very careful what you wish for, after all, Chipmixer was allegedly used by criminals to launder $3 billion and you do not want those criminals start using Coinomize for illegal purposes.

Personally, I think it is just a matter of time before all mixers will be used for money laundering by dangerous criminals therefore various international law enforcement agencies will take action to close down mixer websites and will seek the arrest of mixer owners.

Mixing is not laundering.
Laundering is when you make illicit funds appear legit (i.e. when you find a way to report and pay tax on them).

Bitcoin is a public ledger, so there are plenty of legit reasons people want to use mixers to keep their holdings private.

In a sense, it's similar to you walking to the shop and paying with say a $100 bill. Is it immoral for a shopkeeper to accept it without knowing whether you earned it or stole it? Should it be his responsibility to investigate that?

You have to ask yourself a question to what degree are you willing to sacrifice your privacy and freedom for "safety" (aka government control).
1593  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Are you hodling your old usb ASIC miners? on: March 18, 2023, 12:16:16 PM
My Friend  had Antminer S9 pro and at that time it was super good and He was making A lot of money from this. And also at that time I do not have enough resources to buy this. I tried my best to get loan from banks and they didn't give because I was Student and have had no any backup and I regret this till now. And It brothers me sometimes.

Yeah, you had no chance of getting a loan from a bank without an income and if you told them it was for the purpose of bitcoin mining - you would make it even worse.
At least you tried.

1594  Economy / Speculation / Re: repetition of 2008 crisis and what it means for bitcoin on: March 18, 2023, 12:06:20 PM
bitcoin was born out of the financial crisis, we could even say it was created because of it so that people have a sanctuary they can flee to.
when we look at the charts we can see that during the time the banking mess has been going on and as they kept collapsing, bitcoin price keeps on rising. in fact it broke a major resistance at $25k which it couldn't break before thanks to the banks collapses.

i believe the more banks fail, the more bitcoin price is going to shoot up.
this year we could see much worse financial crisis and a much bigger bitcoin price rise in one of the biggest FOMOs that bitcoin has seen so far.

The problem is Bitcoin's price (in recent years) was strongly correlated with traditional stock markets, and Bitcoin reached its ath in a very low-interest environment.
It's way too soon to be opening a bottle of champagne to celebrate success, as it is yet to prove that the correlation has been broken and Bitcoin's price is independent of other markets.
Also, the recession hasn't even started yet.
1595  Local / Polski / Re: Pospekulujmy o aktualnej i przyszłej cenie BTC. on: March 18, 2023, 11:15:39 AM

I have about N700.000 I want to invest.
Please I want suggestions.

Not sure what currency you are referring to, and if that amount is substantial to you or if it's something you could afford to lose (i.e. do you have any other investments, will you be needing that money in the future etc). Obviously, your financial goals also play a big part. But it's a good strategy to approach investing of a small amount the same way you would do with a big one.

So (assuming those are your only investment funds), I wouldn't put it all in Bitcoin, but rather try to build a more diversified portfolio. As for Bitcoin itself, my personal expectation is that, more likely than not, it will go up in the next 1-2 years, but previous rates of returns will be impossible. I don't expect it to go much higher than the previous ath.
1597  Local / Polski / Re: Pospekulujmy o aktualnej i przyszłej cenie BTC. on: March 18, 2023, 10:24:28 AM

Właśnie chyba bardziej chodzi o to gdzie BUSD będzie dostępne do handlu.

Bankers Bingo anyone?

I'm seeing some circulating rumours that Credit Suisse is also to go down soon but haven't yet seen any concrete analysis on how would that happen. I'm yet to do my homework.

More collapses seem inevitable, they haven't learned anything from 2008.

An interesting read from 2 days ago on how bitcoin transactions can be done using USSD protocol instead of the internet. It's more of a novelty as currently less than 3,000 users and this form of sending information is not encrypted, therefore not very safe - but still interesting.

There’s a growing population of Africans without reliable internet access that are still using bitcoin for peer-to-peer transactions thanks to a solution called Machankura.

In 2022, South African software developer Kgothatso Ngako built a tool, Machankura, for accessing bitcoin despite the continent’s mobile internet connectivity challenge. It offers a way to access the Lightning Network through an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data interface, utilizing mobile phones’ Subscriber Identity Module telecommunication network. USSD is similar to Interactive Voice Response. (...)
