What's the point of starting this topic OP? Are you trying to run an unofficial freebitcoin thread?

If you have any questions on site's functionality and features - just ask in any of their two official ones:
Gambling: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320959.0
Micro earnings: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=319540.0

I'm sure they could help you there.
1662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which countries do you think this year will adopt Bitcoin as a Legal tender? on: March 02, 2023, 10:16:13 PM
Small countries adopt Bitcoin as legal tender because they really have no other choice. Their economies are weak thanks to ever-increasing inflation rates. Bitcoin cannot be debased due to the way it was designed, so it proves to be the perfect solution for developing countries trying to battle the negative effects of inflation. We should expect countries within the Latin-American region to make the move soon. The more of them there are, the better for Bitcoin.

Not every small country has hyperinflation you know. Inflation rate in El Salvador is similar (or slightly lower) than in many European countries.
And no sane country will ever replace their national currency with Bitcoin (unless in some financial system collapse emergency scenario), they could only introduce it as an additional legal tender to attract tourists and investors. But you want to be able to control your national currency and you want it to have a small, healthy inflation rate.
1663  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC Chair Gensler confirms "everything other than Bitcoin is a security" on: March 02, 2023, 10:05:57 PM
How exactly is the SEC going to regulate the entire crypto market? Do you really believe that that is somehow possible? What about DeFi? How is SEC going to deal with that, or the cryptos which are already considered securities by the SEC itself? I am not going to worry about the SEC. Nothing but hot air and empty threats. They only go after centralized businesses, if they can. Everything else is unenforceable as with current laws.

Enforcing laws fully against crypto would take a global dictatorship. Nothing less.

But you need a centralised business to be able to trade crypto for fiat and the other way around. Even with stablecoins, there are central entities that hold the deposits that back the coins.
So SEC don't really care about DeFi but they could get you when you want to cash out.
The major argument for overregulation is that it could put the entire sector outside of US to more friendlier countries, with US citizens just trading there bypassing US laws. But if all of the top countries become strict on crypto - that could be a problem.
1664  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 02, 2023, 09:47:50 PM
I don't think this math checks out unless you have many rolls, not just the one. You cannot really calculate the statistical sum of the profits with a single dye roll. Just like you cannot calculate the average mean with only a single number as that would make the number the average mean itself and calculating it has no point. That just seems a bit silly, to be honest.

There is no need to calculate EV here. Its a one time thing, so either you win or you lose. The chances of winning is around 17%.

I would take the bet with twice the amount as a regular dice game. That seems like a reasonable amount. But I would be wary of betting more, as the large winnings do not have any effect on the probability. Its still the same chance of winning as in a regular dice game.

This was already discussed earlier in this thread, i.e. >here<

EV is a wider concept than just calculating long-run winnings. Quick explanation:

- you would take a one-time coin-flip bet when for $1 wager you could win $100
- you wouldn't take such bet if for $1 wager you could only win $0.10

Why? You'd assess its EV, probably without realising it. All the relevant factors that you need to make a decision are the same as those used in the EV formula.

And, as also discussed, even with millions of bets, the actual result can deviate from the EV quite significantly.

Another Bitcoin-related piece from Forbes today. SHTF scenarios like this one really highlight Bitcoin's true potential as censorship-free digital cash.

The Nigerian Election And Naira Crisis Are Fueling Bitcoin Adoption

The recent economic cash crisis in Nigeria, caused by the naira redesign, political climate, and economic conditions, has increased bitcoin's value proposition for average Nigerians. In Africa, bitcoin offers an indispensable financial safe haven.

Key Facts:
  • The naira redesign has exacerbated the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians and increased pressure on the unbanked.
  • Nigerians headed to the polls on Saturday to decide the next leader of Africa’s largest democracy, with economic challenges being top of mind.
  • Given the current economic climate, bitcoin is viewed by many Nigerians—especially amongst the younger generation—as a safe haven for both the underbanked and unbanked as economic conditions worsen.

If you’ve been paying attention to the crypto industry for the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen headlines related to the controversy over NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain. Some passionate members of the Bitcoin community are upset over this development and are strongly opposed to NFTs hosted on the Bitcoin blockchain.

In order to explain this dispute, it is first necessary to provide some background on how Bitcoin and blockchain databases work. A traditional bank spends massive amounts of money maintaining a database of their customer’s assets and transactions. For example, the Bank of America IT department maintains a database that tracks all of the money held by the firm’s 54 million customers. (...)

With the exception of Ordinals, nobody's using Taproot for anything significant so there is an argument to be made that future Bitcoin protocol feature upgrades will become less and less important to users than say, Segwit.

Didn't Taproot upgrade also include Schnorr signatures? Either way, there's no denying that there were plenty of useful upgrades and patches and that active development will always be required at least at some level. It'll never be a work completed, as there will always be some challenges ahead (quantum computers, possible algo changes if mining gets delegalised or someone manages to obtain majority of hash power etc)

Don't see light lord have different project aside from 777coin and bitvest so maybe they really have a financial problem upon having those issues occur. They will never delay their payments if they earning good to their casino so maybe they start to experience a huge decline maybe due to competition that's why those problems to them happen. Then I guess this contributes to decision by lightlord to be out of this forum and stay only where they are now.

Life does not revolve around bitcointalk. They could have jobs/careers or just other, non-crypto related projects that we wouldn't know about.
I don't expect them to have kept i.e. funds for the signature campaign in the site's bankroll, or make it otherwise dependent on the site's profitability, that would be pretty horrible management. But we can only speculate on the reasons things went the way they went.

If he just close this thread then no people will speculate about what happen to Bitvest ...

No point in closing this thread. Someone could just create an "unofficial" one. Besides, this one is still getting bumped regularly, so that's some free marketing.
All it takes really is to put some note in the first post saying that they no longer monitor it. That would do the trick.

I would answer you with a counter question - can "our" man be someone who works for the US government and according to the guidelines of that same government? The article you linked also states that this man worked for Goldman Sachs for 20 years, and after all that time he is certainly not inclined to any ideas like Bitcoin.

Well, there's no denying that there are quite a few die-hard bitcoiners even on this forum who almost seems to root for SEC to declare all other cryptos (especially ETH) as securities to cripple their market share. This goes to show how easy it is to lose the sense of the original purpose and swap principles for tribalism and the desire for financial gain.

A tu bananowy krypto milioner ... cel idealny.

If someone is saying to you that they're winning constantly, it probably means that they are not disclosing their losses.

That's a very common thing among gamblers, they forget how much they've lost, and only remember how much they've "won".

In most cases, specially in the long run, every gambler will have paid more to the casino than what the casino paid to them.

That's true, I don't think people are necessarily lying, it's more about genuinely not being able to keep proper track of the results. Or maybe it's just the wins are more strongly engraved in memory than losses.

I believe that most of gamblers are deluded into thinking they're somehow in a break-even position. I was like that years ago, but luckily the site I was playing provided profit/loss stats, which got me disillusioned.

Besides that klidex is right, bets are open since several days and the pools are still very low, only few hundreds of bets have been placed till now while Oscars ceremony will be held in only 2 weeks.

As I said before, the Oscars only have a fraction of the popularity they had say 10 years ago. I realised that last year after loads of people commenting on social media that they wouldn't even know about the Oscars if it wasn't for Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage.
Holywood is, and always has been, utter garbage with nothing to offer. Looking at the bets I'm not even familiar with most of those names, and I'm happy with that.
Looking forward to Holywood dying a slow fast and painful death.

If the reputation is broken then nothing to came back since this is serious matter but in the case of bitvest or lightlord they can fix this up his problem here is all about the delay of campaign payments. He can hire people to do the job like monitoring the funds of thus platform and also in marketing to avoid issues, but also I think they have problem with capital since maybe the cause of that delays is they are not earning big the same as before that's why they decide to leave and let their platform operates without having any marketing. All are only assumptions and only lightlord knows the exact answer why they decide to became inactive here.

It all seems like BitVest is, or at least was, just some side project for LL and not his primary focus. That would explain neglecting campaign participants and customers.
But then again, people are different. Some just have a poor work ethic and/or poor communication skills. And some fall into depression or just procrastination and can't force themselves to do what needs to be done.

Either way, it's not like LL's, and the site's reputation is very low. They could still get active on bitcointalk, do things right and improve trust.
1679  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-24] CNBC -For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity... on: February 28, 2023, 09:48:09 PM
It's not like these people have no opportunities to invest money with other financial institutions as well, especially since in the context of racism, it is usually the big dinosaur banks that arrogantly decline their services to minority clients.

Can you name some examples of banks declining services to minorities? Or are you just blindly perpetuating the "much systemic racism everywhere" lie?
If I had to guess, banks would love black customers, as I imagine, on average, they're more likely to spend beyond their means, go into debt and pay interest and fees.

They probably already do recognize that, but everyone wants to talk about racism nowadays...
Yup, because it pays them. What are you gaining from being "color-blind"?

- People unbanked are mostly black people in The US. This is not true and they give the proof themselves.
Notice it depends on the actual income and not on the race. If you're poor, you have more chances to be unbanked, no matter what your race is.

Yes, the income is the most important factor, but looking at the "all income" stats, it shows disproportion by race as well. The question is why? Do they not have access to banking services? I doubt it.
1680  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin’s Future Hinges on Donations, and That’s Got People Worried" on: February 28, 2023, 09:34:56 PM
Donations to who?
a. The major developers involved in Core *are*already rather well paid by various interests.
Is it a bad thing if they're being paid for their work on Bitcoin and Bitcoin Core? Is this not needed? Can Bitcoin carry on without devs getting paid?

b. Most of them have been involved in the development of BTC almost since it's earliest days and still have rather tidy sums of the BTC they've acquired during that time so they are certainly not hurting for money. Hell, a few years ago Luke Jr. bragged about still having several thousand BTC
So? Do you take their work for granted? Do they not deserve to get paid for their work? Do you feel like they owe you (and entire community) their time because they have some bitcoins?
They're mostly middle age now and probably will want to retire at some point. Plus, nobody lives forever. What then? Do you expect a new wave of devs (who doesn't have that emotional, early adopter mentality and doesn't hold millions in BTC) to just dedicate a big portion of their lives to Bitcoin, rather than spending that time earning big money?
ps. Luke Jr got hacked and lost ~$3 mils worth.

c.You imply that some sort of continuing large-scale corporate-funded development needs to be implemented... For what? "Additional features and functions"?
I literally just posted an article and asked genuine questions. I haven't implied anything.

The existing BTC technology does not need to be and SHOULD NOT BE tampered with by adding things that have no bearing on what BTC was intended to do: be a means of acquiring, holding, and transferring funds with it being community developed and guided.
Lol what? So all the Segwit, Taproot, or other upgrades were not needed? Or are you implying that we won't need any sort of upgrades in the future?
