maybe because I often make tickets to contact support, but don't get a solution but my account and IP are permanently banned by the bitvest admin, this is unfair and very bad performance from the bitvest admin site

Are you sure you're account and IP are banned?
Have they banned you before you damaged your phone or after? Are you sure the ticket(s) you created are coming through at all?
How many tickets have you sent to them? Have you been spamming them every few minutes etc?

You could always use VPN, create new account and start a new ticket explaining the situation. It's also worth checking if your phone is repairable (e.g. maybe it only needs a news screen etc).

Either way, they shouldn't be denying customer service to anyone who has money deposited there.
1542  Other / Meta / Re: Advertising on the forum no longer supported? on: March 30, 2023, 07:08:21 PM

If you check last post of that thread you linked, you see the reason.

Thanks both. I didn't even think of scrolling to the bottom of that thread.

According to the ads stats(https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats), the current round is already on 358 (January 28 to February 27). I believe Theymos is only accepting an offer and not through the form of ad sales auction like the previous version.

If there are no auctions anymore and the duration is determined individually for each advertiser, then what would the "round" refer to in these stats?

Rounds are getting updated automatically as theymos didn't remove the ad slots from the forum. Currently, 9 slots are filled with the below message & the other one is a factoid slot as we had back in the day.

Do we know if this is accurate at all? Even if it is, it would be showing running ads as of now, meaning there could've been some ad campaigns between the round 353 and today.

Wow OP, I've been here the entire time you've been taking a break, and I hadn't even noticed the lack of advertising.  Either you're extremely perceptive or I'm at the extreme end of apathy toward such things.

Nah, I wouldn't have noticed that myself if it wasn't for me checking advertisement policies for an unrelated topic.
1543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto traders beaten by girls on: March 30, 2023, 06:48:56 PM
I'm not sure why women involving into investments/tradings of all sorts are a big deal for some of us? I mean, except from the physicality  - women are all equal with men. They have brains too, and brains doesn't work different per gender. Isn't this something that is insulting for the women? Not sure though coz we have different perspective.
I don't see any difference to a woman who became president, or something being the head of a certain society.
Nevertheless, a woman can make their own due diligence better than a man and her fellow woman.

Are you serious or trolling? Of course there are non-physical differences between men and women. We are meant to be different and complement each other. That's a beautiful thing.
In short, women are more people-focussed and have better developed the "emotional" side, while men are more focussed on things and tend to be more technical + have higher risk tolerance (which does not always pay off).

How do reconcile the fact that when Bitcoin started, every poll showed over 90% of adopters were men? There was no societal expectations and anyone was free to join. Or why are chess dominated by men? Or maths/engineering etc?

Manliest games of all? Crypto trading doesn't even involve lifting or punching.

Are you saying you've never punched a screen after your position got liquidated?  Grin
1544  Other / Meta / Advertising on the forum no longer supported? on: March 30, 2023, 06:24:38 PM
I came back to bitcointalk in December 2022 after few years break. Today I realised that there doesn't seem to be any forum ads. I checked Theymos' post history and looks like the last ad auction round was 353 from July 2022.

Has the forum officially ceased selling ads? Can anyone explain what was the logic behind that decision (or just link me to relevant post)?

Is the forum only generating revenue from donations now? Doesn't seem like a viable business model.
1545  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 📝[Discussion topic] Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns📝 on: March 30, 2023, 06:11:38 PM
Now I wonder, if the staff aren't allowed to advertise such kind of services, then it is highly likely that we as forum members will eventually become restricted as well. It's just a matter of time where other mixing services will start to withdraw one-by-one  Undecided.
Not until theymos publicly announce it. Until using mixers is declared as illegal by the authorities. Since its on the forum rules, of promoting illegal is not allowed then it will not be allowed.

Makes sense but the question still stands: why would he ban forum staff from advertising mixing services? Obviously there must have been some legal concerns, so the question is, if those concerns are not applicable to the forum users as well.
It's possible that he was just overly cautious and that there may be some legal grey areas. My guess would be that staff can be seen as official representatives of the forum, so anything endorsed by them could be seen as officially supported by the forum (and its owner).

Here's a link to (now locked) discussion on whether bitcointalk should ban mixer advertising with a link to a criminal complaint/affidavit against ChipMixer that has some mentions of the BitcoinTalk

I don’t know where you are but in North America you have a credit profile. Pay your bills on time and you have a higher credit score. With a higher credit score it’s easier to gets loans for less interest and more balance.

Some loans have collateral like a house or cars. However there are some like credit cards which don’t. For a small loan like yours there shouldn’t be any collateral really. However it might be different where you are located.

Just curious, do they offer credit cards to people without any income in US? Sure, normally (in the UK/Europe) you wouldn't need any collateral for a loan of few thousands, but you'd need at least to have some sort of income to pay that off and if you don't have such, you'd probably need a guarantor (usually parents). From OP's post I sense that he might be a student without any income or freshly out of college.
1547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying cheap is best formula on: March 29, 2023, 09:55:18 PM

Anyone who has a good understanding of how Bitcoin works knows that investing in other cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, is risky.  Which a bitcoin investor must accept. And investing in Bitcoin carries high risks as well.  So is the possibility of higher profits is also soo big. So if you want to achieve something big, you must take risks

I don't really agree with what you're saying, first of all we need to clarify that when you decide to buy Bitcoin it's not an investment where you have to expect an economic return, because if this is what you expect you should look elsewhere.  The only wealth that Bitcoin can give you is financial freedom, keep that in mind.

If, by buying bitcoins, you don't expect a financial return, then what are you buying it for exactly? What do you mean by financial freedom and how are you going to achieve that if Bitcoin stays where it is price-wise or drops significantly?

You're not just throwing empty phrases around, are you?

"Singaporean women ‘outperforming’ men in crypto trades, survey reveals"
https://cointelegraph.com/news/singaporean-women-outperforming-men-in-crypto-trades-survey-reveals

The dawn of mankind is officially here. A recent poll from Singapore revealed that women managed to outperform men in the manliest games of all - crypto trading:
"As per the survey data, 76% of women reported either making money or breaking even on their crypto investments, compared to just 72% of men"

Since it looks like the answers were self-reported, there's a chance that women may not be telling the truth, to make themselves look better. But maybe there's something in the female approach to trading that would explain it (i.e. higher risk aversion?).

There's a downloadable pdf, they're asking for name/email but don't verify, so you can put anything.

You do just make yourself that look like a fool on going into this place and just taking to have some loan but dont offer something as a valid collateral.
You wouldnt really be able to get on no matter what.

That's true, but on the 2nd thought, OP might have a chance of getting few thousands of unsecured loan from a bank if he was to open a business account for his new "startup".
I remembered from years ago, when I was opening business account in a branch, they were almost forcing me to take a business credit card with (if I remember correctly) £2,000 limit with zero personal repayment guarantee. The bank staff must've had a commission from each credit card sale. And that was after the credit crunch when banks were widely criticised for their loose approach to lending.
Not sure if things have changed since then, but maybe that's a way to go.
1551  Economy / Speculation / Re: 23 March 2023: SEC issues official warning to crypto investors on: March 29, 2023, 08:56:16 PM
What I said before is starting to come true, a large number of Americans have been pulling their money out of the banks. So far hundreds of billions of dollars have been pulled out. Very few of those who make a withdrawal would put it in their mattress! Majority of them would try to invest into something specially since dedollarisation is expanding to more countries and the threat of dollar collapsing is more serious now; obviously one of the very viable options is bitcoin.
Hence the SEC fear and their subsequent warning...

If there's indeed a massive cash pull-out, I don't expect this would be driven by an average Joes converting the fiat into bitcoins and/or other investments. Certainly this is not reflected in BTC price.
I would be guessing it's either the wealthy individuals or businesses escaping with any excess cash to mitigate the risk. The FDIC insurance only covers up to $250k, so it's best to strategically move any excess either to another bank or somewhere else.
1552  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 📝[Discussion topic] Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns📝 on: March 28, 2023, 10:00:48 PM
If not, is there any source that could be used to get the historical data to produce such stats? The official thread has been pruned with lots of old posts missing (i.e. from between 2014-2017)

You can use this thread: EVOLUTION OF SIGNATURE AD CAMPAIGNS (BEGINNING DAYS TO THE PRESENT)

The data is presented there until August 17, 2020, the rest, alas, you will have to look for yourself among a bunch of topics in the section Services. I don't know how long it can take to analyze such data, but I don't think it's worth spending time on it. In any case, one thing is clear: the coolest campaign in terms of payouts was ChipMixer, and the longest campaign in the history of the forum is Crypto.Games

Brilliant. Massive thanks.

1553  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank loans and securities. on: March 28, 2023, 09:47:21 PM
Banks can not loan you above their security measures. I went to bank to access a loan of $2,300 and they ask me what's my securities collateral to back up my loan reguest. And I said my school certs. The bank agent said such amount required housing, land or multi investment documents not just certification. So that's mean education do not have the real value but properties does.

Financial institutions are very conical in dealings with others. They can beg to bring money for them to use it and build estates, mortgage and occupy landed properties but they will screw you before given you a loan.

Would you lend someone you don't know money if all they could offer as security were school certs? How is that even a security?

In the vast majority of cases you wouldn't even need any collateral if you had full-time employment. Using land/house as collateral for a small loan of $2,300 is a massive overkill. The legal costs of drafting such agreement would make it too expensive.

If you need that money for something constructive, that can yield you an income later on - just speak to family and friends. That's usually the best and cheapest option (and, in your case, probably the only available one).
1554  Economy / Speculation / Re: 23 March 2023: SEC issues official warning to crypto investors on: March 28, 2023, 09:33:32 PM
The reasons why crypto-based securities are high risk is clearly because they aren't approved by the SEC, and so far there has been no regulation surrounding them, at least no relevant legislation.

I also think this is merely further clarity after the exchanged-based staking-related change up, that exchanges can't offer a %, only the crypto protocol in itself can.

The problem is SEC itself is unable/unwilling to clearly define what falls into definition of crypto-based security. There's not much clarity in that statement neither.
They've already hinted in the past that even well-known cryptos like ETH may actually be securities. If, for all those years SEC themselves cannot provide a clear rule, then how can any crypto-business potentially comply to their rules?
The recent case with Paxos being ordered to stop minting new BUSD tokens, because they may fall into the definition of security, shows how loosely they use that definition.
The most accepted method of determining if something is security or not, is the Howey test, which has 4 conditions:
1 - An investment of money
2 - In a common enterprise
3 - With the expectation of profit
4 - To be derived from the efforts of others

No stable coin, by definition, bears any expectations of profit - yet, that didn't stop SEC/NYDFS from going after Paxos.

1556  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New world order or CBDC against cryptocurrencies on: March 28, 2023, 05:14:21 PM
So it seems Nigeria is following Modi's plan but in a different context. Modi did the same in India to curb the use of black money and Nigeria did it to push the digital money. That's quite unfortunate that Nigerians are living under an authoritarian government.

It is a sad situation that the government is not placing priority on the people. Digital money in Nigeria is still far from Nigeria because of so many reasons not excluding comatose network.

Demonetization usually brings in more liquidity and positive upward trend to cryptocurrency similar to what we have seen in India.

Unfortunately it is not so. The naira seizure or redesigned against the old one was not in any way made to encourage the use of cryptocurrency, even bitcoin trading is still not popular as the government is still placing a ban on it or have not publicly lifted the ban on it. The purpose for the naira seizure according to popular opinion in Nigeria was for only political reason to reduce vote buying in the just concluded election but all of that is a failure because the election is overtly rigged against the popular presidential candidate of labour party. What is worst and to prove that the naira challenge and impoverishing of masses is that same old naira have been released for circulation after the election, so it was not to encourage the use of cbdc or cryptocurrency. It was for selfish gains.

However, Op could have added protest going on in various Nigerian states especially in the capital territory at the inec head quarters and national assembly due to non compliance with the constitution, electoral laws and Inec guidelines in the conduct of the Feb 25 , 2023 presidential election. The naira crunch is sequel to the fraud and rigging of the election.

You seem to have some first hand info.

So, if I understand correctly, all the situation was due to reduction of cash in circulation as part of pre-election games. Is the situation returning to normal after the election or is it getting worse?
And why was the turnout so low? I read it was around 27%. You would expect it to be much higher especially when there's a heated rivalry for the office.

And how's it looking with CBDC, is it available for use by an average Nigerians at all?

CZ’s Response to the CFTC Complaint
Today, the CFTC filed an unexpected and disappointing civil complaint, despite our working cooperatively with the CFTC for over two years.

Upon an initial review, the complaint appears to contain an incomplete recitation of facts, and we do not agree with the characterization of many of the issues alleged in the complaint. While we will only be able to give full responses in due time, we will address a few key points below.

Good for him for a quick and detailed response, but the effort is probably futile.
At this point, the message is pretty clear, US want to chase Binance of their market (or maybe from other markets in countries under US influence). Possibly only as part of the wider crack down on crypto, or maybe as an element of USA Vs China game of economical dominance.

The way it looks like, doesn't matter what Binance will do in terms of compliance. They'll always find a way to hit them.
1558  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 27, 2023, 11:04:06 PM
Players shouldn't really try to cheat in any form just so they could take advantage of the casinos benefit whether if it's a vulnerability or not. But of course, not everyone has the same moral compass so we could only remind them about the repercussions of cheating.

Cheating on a casino or any gambling platforms is considered a grave offense. Most of the time this is already stated in their TOS and the punishment is will depend on what they deem necessary such as suspension of banning of the account. In an instance it is proven that a player cheated, they can no longer access their account nor make any transaction on it to recover what's left. Hence, it should be an enough warning to everyone.

No one should be cheating, either in casino or generally in life, but the same rule should apply to both sides, not only to players. I think too many players are too tolerant of some shady and dishonest practices by some gambling site operators (or maybe even to a bigger degree - physical casinos), i.e. banning people without stating any reason or offering games with absolutely no information on the house edge etc. Not to mention they would often resort to psychological tricks to make games more addictive or to get the players drunk with free drinks, which says a lot about how immoral they can get.

Remember - they need you way more than you need them, and, for most players, getting banned by a casino could actually be a good thing.
1559  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax Avoidance Possible legally with Bitcoin? on: March 27, 2023, 10:49:51 PM
How naive a person needs to be to hope that the tax office of another country will not notice the purchase of real estate by a foreign citizen and will not ask his source of financing.
Georgia is a very good country with a good climate, but in order to live there, you need to take into account many nuances. Therefore, I always advise legalizing income through a business in your country.

If they allow foreigners to purchase properties, then don't have any interest in checking how did they get the funds, as any taxes would be payable in other jurisdictions anyway, so nothing to gain for them.
Not to mention they don't have any authority to launch any routine investigations in foreign countries, so even if they asked you for the source of funds, they'd probably accept any answer. So not sure how do you imagine the process would look like? Do you think they'd auto-appoint a financial forensic investigator for every house sale?
Again, we're talking about purchasing with fiat with a fiat bank transfer from abroad.
Between the countries there are treaties on tax control. Nobody will prevent you from buying a house or other real estate, because you are making investments in the country.
And after the purchase, the tax office has several years or more to check the legality of your funds with which you bought the house.
If there is no such procedure today, this does not mean that next year it will be the same.

Fair enough, but was a bit puzzled when you called me "naive" for writing what you essentially wrote yourself: the country you're buying property in, is unlikely to prevent you from doing that as you're pumping money into their economy. If anyone was to launch any investigation, usually some sort of red flag would have to be triggered and I'm guessing the country doing the investigation would most likely to be a country of your tax residence.

In many countries, there are tax treaties that prevent double taxation, which means that, depending on the details of the tax treaty, someone who earns income in one country but resides in another country may still be required to pay taxes in both countries.

Preventing double taxation would mean you'd only be taxed by one country (in regard to personal income tax), e.g. your country of tax residency could let you deduct any taxes paid on your property owned in a foreign country.
