201  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: February 19, 2023, 04:59:26 PM
How so? If someone loses their paper wallet, you can open threads in Internet boards. Or send some funds there with a message, describing where and how you found it. There's absolutely no manner to verify who's the one who lost their cash on the street, unless the physical wallet with the identity is also dropped.
Fiat, as in physical notes are usually accompanied with a wallet, although that's not always the case. Obvoiusly, if you just find notes on the street without anything else, it's impossible to find the true owner of those notes. However, Bitcoin wallets I wouldn't expect to find in a normal wallet (physical wallet, that stores money, and cards), since I don't really associate it with that.

If you get robbed in the streets, what do they ask for? Phone, and wallet right? So, putting your Bitcoin wallet, especially a seed in a physical traditional wallet like that would be insecure, even if carrying this information in the first place is insecure, its more so by carrying it in items that typically are targets to be stolen.

So, someone might store their wallet in non traditional ways, like a capsule on their key ring or someting along those lines. When you lose this, you'll have no accompanying information, which effectively measures it as useful as losing cash with no additional information.

Also, yeah I know several people that don't actually know Bitcointalk.org exists, despite being invested in Bitcoin. So, there's that. As well, social media tends to be avoided by a certain demographic within the Bitcoin community, especially those that value privacy so Reddit, and Twitter start getting eliminated there.

Nice win for Blanchfield in main event against Andrade but I don't think she is ready for title fight with Valentina Shevchenko now, so it's better for her to work and prepare more.
This was not most memorable UFC event, maybe prelims showed more than main card, and I don't understand why UFC is still forcing events in their UFC Apex instead of normal arenas.
Maybe it's not a bad idea to sometimes skip week or two than to create semi boring events in UFCV Apex like this.
Santos might be the most logical next step for her, since that was the original match up. However, I think she's ready for Shevchenko. Her submission skills are some of the best, and I knew that if it got to the ground she'd have a chance. However, she actually did pretty good work on the feet too. Didn't look too fazed by the attacks from Andrade. Shevchenko is a lot more technical, but isn't as ferocious as Andrade so we at least now know Erin can deal with that sort of pressure, and she did it in style.

Considering, her relatively short UFC career, and young age she might actually be in for a long period at the top, a bit like Shevchenko.

<----- Account is already locked or banned normaly
This user recently woke up from a long period of inactivity.
Last post from that Account was back in November 02, 2018 , Hacked or sold Account
<---- Thread is already deleted
This post is also a reference for the Github Report !
I've moved it to the trashcan to mitigate the exposure, although I've escalated it to the global moderators to take further action, so shouldn't be long until that's done. As for the links, I'll probably formulate some sort of list, and report it to Mitchell periodically, however it does seem like they continue to just post new links, so will likely evade the bot. We might need to come up with a custom solution to detect these early, potentially. It's one of the reasons I'm for a shadow ban effect, maybe specifically for accounts looking to post links, rather than all newly registered accounts. I know that these accounts they're obtaining aren't new, which is part of the problem since they evade some of the moderators.

Although, keep reporting them, and we'll at the very least mitigate the exposure this gets. Thanks for doing your bit!
204  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: February 19, 2023, 02:48:31 PM
18650 are different in voltage that your classical AA batteries, plus packing more energy into the battery while increasing the cost makes little sense when you can simply buy rechargeable ones and use 4 or 6 of them to have one set always ready. Maybe it's just me, but talking about the extra cost of a few batteries and a cheap cable probably every single one of us is having laying around while discussing a device in which you plan to store thousands of $ equivalent seems a bit of a push.
While Lithium batteries tend to hold good charge unless they're exposed to cold environments or obviously used they hold their charge decently well. 18650s aren't all that expensive these days. When you compare them to double AA's sure, they're comparatively cheaper, but if you're using your hardware wallet semi frequently, running into charge issues would be annoying. For a little extra cost, you could have two 18650's instead of three normal double A's, and you'll have a much better charge.

While 18650s are usually associated with flashlights, and battery packs I don't think they should be limited to that. The cost of them is going down, as we are developing stronger equipment that requires more mah. Therefore, double A's I can see becoming a thing of the past, and while they're brilliant for remote controls, and the like. 18650s future proof the design, and when you're storing Bitcoin for a rather long period of time having that future proof insurance is nicer to have.

Personally, I think hardware wallets should accept several different batteries. I have a DIY battery pack, that I take traveling which accepts double A's, 18650s, and 21's. If they did that, it effectively future proofs it, and allows quick access to whatever the user can get their hands on, if they require to do that in a short period of time.
205  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 19, 2023, 02:08:24 PM
Erin got it done! That's one hell of a statement to make, and I actually think he has a chance against Val, since she hasn't been looking her best in her recent outings, and Erin is a serious threat on the ground. I think she's proven that now, against Molly I can see why people were doubting her, but she made a real statement last night against a top three opponent.

I think Dana is going to be pissed off and might give him 1 more chance but if he performs like that again I can see him getting cut. A shame because he has 1 of the best physiques in the ufc.
Quite possibly, he's looked absolutely awful in most of his outings. Aside, from his knockout power he doesn't really have a lot going for him. He definitely doesn't have very technical skills. Although, he's a great fighter to bet against since he is so one dimensional, yet he's still got that knock out power that inflates his chances of winning, and therefore he's usually the favourite or close in odds to his opponent.
206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 26 in Saudi Arabia on: February 17, 2023, 07:40:17 PM
Looks like we have a fight  Cool
Tommy has boarded his flight & is en route to Saudi Arabia.

LETSSSSSS GET IT ONNNNN !
I wouldn't be too sure yet, stranger things have happened Tongue.

Hopefully, it's about time. I mean, it's not exactly Tommy's fault for the last one getting called off. He didn't anticipate getting refused a visa, and effectively banned from entering the country. Plus, honestly I don't think Tommy needs to be scared or anything like that. He's probably relishing the opportunity to make some serious money, and he'll gain quite a bit fame from this regardless how it goes.

He does need to avoid being embarrassed though, so there's always that aspect I suppose. Anyway, it's only confirmed when they've both entered that ring, and the bell goes, that's how pessimistic I've become with boxing Cheesy.
207  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 17, 2023, 07:20:37 PM
Yeah, Molly definitely isn't a world beater, but she's a difficult fight for most fighters out there. However, her ground game got exposed. Now, Erin has a fairly substantial MMA career before the UFC, there's some good footage out there that shows she definitely has a special type of understanding on the ground, and I don't think she's got chance to show all of her skills off yet.

However, I don't think she'll like the pressure that Andrade can bring, and that might be the defining factor. Tokeweed, are you expecting a finish in this fight? I'm trying to gauge whether I risk a decision win for Andrade or not, since the odds are very long at 7.00 for Andrade. She has enough volume, and if Erin can get takedowns, and make it scrappy when shes in trouble it could well go to a decision, and potentially a split one at that.
208  Other / Meta / Re: Forum activity by year - Chart 2009-2022 on: February 17, 2023, 07:17:13 PM
How have you been doing this cleaning?
Search for old topics; see page by page; are you looking for topics/posts from these users who were banned?
Basically page by page, the ol' fashion way. Several users have done this in the past, and reported quite a hefty amount of posts. So, it's not something revolutionary. It's more for de cluttering the section, and allowing users to actually take a look at older threads without being bombarded by the typical spam. I've used some tools though, I've got a userscript which highlights certain words, and I've got a ton other userscripts for various things. I've sometimes found spam through other third party sites which have search functions.

The typical stuff. I utilize the user notes userscript that was posted to note down findings, and I review that periodically. I've only really started streamlining, and getting a cohesive way of moderating though, it's take a few years. However, it seems to be working fairly well recently.

There has been users who have mentioned their process, and methods before. Since, I can remove a lot of the crap I find, my process will be a little different. Reporting definitely takes a lot longer, but if you want to use a third party tool, you can always try the script developed by suchmoon.

If you do want to help though, just report. If there's current spam that you stumble across that should be the priority since it has the most exposure or if the threads are being bumped often. Any active thread, is generally a higher priority.
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi every created some sort of back door to alter BTC? on: February 17, 2023, 06:33:24 PM
Unless, hundreds of users have missed it, then nope he hasn't put a backdoor in it. As has been mentioned above by some users, open source means it's ready to view by anyone. However, that doesn't mean it's automatically safe which I believe some users might be confusing. Just because something is open source, doesn't mean it has backdoors, and when it comes to thousands of lines of code, it could potentially be missed.

Do, I think that's the case for Bitcoin? Nah. There's been too many peer reviews of it, however do consider in the future that just because something is popular, and open source doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. Ideally, anything you use you'd verify the code yourself, but I understand not everyone has that technical ability, so you go to next best thing, and loko for someone who you trust that has reviewed it.

That is why Satoshi Nakamoto still remain the founder of BTC because, he still have the ability to appear and change things that will attract different countries to adopt BTC or to be part of the benefits of BTC by making BTC teams more active in spreading the positive news about Bitcoin to the world. I guess, Satoshi Nakamoto still know what is happening with Bitcoin in the world Because, the main reason he or they created Bitcoin is to go round the world to eliminate delay in transaction.
That entirely depends on the hypothetical changes. If Satoshi has a different vision to the vast majority of the community, we don't have to follow his deviation. That's the beauty of Bitcoin, and one of the key fundamentals that Satoshi created. The freedom to choose.
210  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: February 17, 2023, 06:29:46 PM
We need to progress past triple A's I think, and establish a slightly better, at least bigger capacity battery. I've used 18650s for a lot of things, and they function decently well for most things. Aren't as common as your double A's, and triple A's though. However, they aren't some specialised hardware, and can be picked up relatively cheaply, and easily from a variety of places.

it's usb-c, it's quite the standard these days.
It's really the only standard that should exist. I'm pretty sure that Europe recently passed a law that Apple has to convert to USB-C before a specific date, and that would also apply to any other manufacturers that want to sell their product in Europe. USB-A, and mini USB ships have definitely sailed, but as soon as hardware wallets start bringing in their own special cables, they'll lose customers.

Everyone has a USB-C lying around at this point, and they allow decent data transfer, and charging speeds. So, they should be the standard.
211  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor T showing wrong balance? on: February 17, 2023, 06:21:45 PM
Have you ever sent a transaction from the wallet or have you only received Bitcoin on it?

I never had any problems with Trezor Suite showing wrong amounts, but it's literally impossible to see different amounts for address that didn't have any transactions...
It's a pretty common question, because change addresses aren't typically shown, which is what I suspect is the case here. Although, the suggestions above are pretty spot on, and you'd be able to verify if there are any hidden change addresses which don't show up via Electrum or the public key. However, I consider exposing your public key to a third party as a major privacy risk.

My Trezor does something similar, but it obviously requires sending a transaction for it to use a change address. OP sounds like he's asking about an address that he's only ever received Bitcoin on. If that's the case, I wouldn't know exactly what's happened without seeing the address itself.
212  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledgner Nano X - Turns off immediately on: February 17, 2023, 06:18:22 PM
Honestly, I'd just recommend changing from ledger. They aren't exactly the most decorated in terms of trust or technology. However, if you really want to stick with them, you'll just have to contact support. I don't expect you to get very far with them though. It's very likely to be a battery issue, that's usually the most common component to start failing this early on in electrical devices. Plus, the chances of having a dud battery is far greater. Easy fix I suppose, although I've never physically looked at a ledger device in enough detail so couldn't tell you if it's going to be good easy for the consumer to change the battery.

However, you could potentially have it repaired by the manufacturers. Again, not that I recommend that.
213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 17, 2023, 06:01:22 PM
Not confident about Liverpool's chances against Newcastle, that's for sure. So, I'm not expecting much from the game, although we've started to look a tad better recently, especially with some of our injured players coming back.

According to what I was told, no more double punishment for goalkeepers; it's either a penalty + yellow card or a penalty without booking. There is no need to send the goalkeeper off after awarding a penalty. It is always difficult to take City off the table, and Arsenal does not have enough depth to compete with City at this time.
I think it entirely depends on the offense. I'm not a fan of massively strict, set in stone rules that basically end up ruining th game. If a goalkeeper comes out, and purposely two foots you, that's dangerous play, and therefore should be a sending off. If he comes out, and just clips your heels on accident, sure just a penalty is fine. However, having these hard rules where one or the other, and not both it'll end up where players will start using that to benefit them. For example, I'd much rather a penalty than a player who's just got around me, and is going to shoot so I clip his ankles. That's just an example, where they've basically taken a definite goal, to a penalty shoot out. If he comes out, and two foots a player potentially injuring that player significantly, then that justifies more than a penalty in my eyes, since it's dangerous play.
214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 26 in Saudi Arabia on: February 17, 2023, 05:33:45 PM
I'm sure there's some site that collects them all or groups them into overall categories but there's lots of different governing bodies so it's best to check their individual pages. WBC is the board that have offered the ranking for this fight: https://box.live/world-rankings/wbc/

When they say he will be ranked I'm not sure exactly what that means or what the criteria is for getting on the ranked list. Maybe he will go into the top 100 or 50 or something. Hopefully they don't mean the top 15 which is usually the best of the best and those are the ones that can challenge for titles. Jake is a Cruiserweight I think and the lowest amount of fights I can see in the top 15 fights total. Someone just dropped out of the top 15 with only 11 fights so Jake has a long way to go but he could probably get there eventually.
Boxing rankings have always alluded me. They've never really made any logical sense, and seem to be just some made up crap. Whereas, at least in the UFC you have to beat higher ranked fighters to move up, it seems in boxing you can continue to fight people below you, and go up. I ditched caring about the rankings years ago, at least in boxing.

I can see Jake being top 15 quality though. Obviously, I'm doing it by hearsay, and not actually relying on the official rankings there, but he has decent technique, and seems to have a dedication that goes beyond some of the professional boxers that have made this their life.

Let's see if he gets past Tommy first though, if he doesn't that could be a serious spanner in his plans, because ultimately it's the first real boxer he's faced, even though personally I think he's more than satisfied with the quality of opposition this early in his career. Definitely, better than most boxers that look to pad their records.
215  Other / Meta / Re: Forum activity by year - Chart 2009-2022 on: February 17, 2023, 05:22:43 PM
We're still trying to recover from the sheer amount of spam that 2017, and 18 brought. Seriously, I've removed thousands of posts from that time period, and it's still a drop in the ocean. I've removed pages upon pages of crap that was generated due to the hype of ICOs, and generally the overall feel during that period. The forums become a little more strict, and structured since then, and ultimately the hype has died down since most of those projects all failed.

However, it's really had some lasting effects on the forum, which even today we're still cleaning up. I'm determined to get to the bottom of it though. Definitely, showing signs of catching up, even if it's only the start. To be fair, most of the users spamming during this period have already been banned, but their posts still remain so it's just doing a little of the after cleaning.
216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 17, 2023, 05:02:45 PM
I kinda believe what toke said that Andrade is too good. She seems to take her fights seriously and is confident enough to accept the fight on such short notice. It's 1.75 vs 2.1. Seem close and there could be a chance for Blanchfield to win. I think put my bet too early since the odds had changed.
Erin Blanchfield is definitely capable of winning here, but for that to happen it'll likely need to hit the ground. It all depends on how good Andrade can defend the takedowns. Although, she's shown in her past fights she's pretty good at that. I think the odds are correct though, I think this is a closer fight that a lot of people think it's going to be. The real question is whether this will be a wrestling or striking dominant fight. If it's the latter, then yeah I'd naturally have to side with Andrade. I'll probably be going for the unlikely event of Andrade winning via a decision. Both ladies are capable of ending this fight, in different ways which means it should actually be a pretty entertaining fight. One of the one's to look forward too compared to the rest of the card.
217  Other / Meta / Re: [List]Gambling Board Spammers; Concerns, Solutions & Suggestions on: February 17, 2023, 04:56:47 PM
I reported posts from 3 users. 1 of which I decided to open up post history, and found that yup, they were posting spam across gambling. I reported all their posts for the day.

The result? My first reported post was marked Bad. That was only my 3rd "bad" report of my forum lifetime! But 4/5 of the others from the same users were deleted, one remained unhandled. The other 2 users were left unhandled.

I reported another 8 posts from 8 different users in 1 thread (La Liga) and only 1 was deleted/good, the rest unhandled.
The important thing is they're being seen. Users, and moderators will never agree on everything, and moderators can't act upon the assumption that a user wouldn't reply to you or they're doing it simply to fill their quota. There has to be some sort of evidence, and that's what we act upon. However, I can confidently say that all your reports are being seen, and it's very likely a lot of those unhandled one's will be handled eventually. Although, if they do stay unhandled it could be a borderline case which no moderator feels confidently enough to act upon it, but don't necessarily think you're wrong.

Unhandled reports have their uses. Anyhow, all the reports I've made there recently have been handled, and I'm planning on visiting the Gambling section, and actually reporting regularly soon. I'm just going through the motions in the Altcoin section at the moment Tongue.

We just need a few reporters that don't necessarily care about their percentage, and just regularly report there. Once they start losing their activity or earnings they'll think twice about spamming in the future. Unfortunately, they only do it because they know they can get away with it. That's no backhanded insult to the moderators that receive the reports ther either, like I said all of them are seen, and most of them are acted upon. It's just there's so much it's a full time job to actually get that section back to acceptable levels.
218  Other / Meta / Re: Request: "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Poll on: February 17, 2023, 04:52:02 PM
My concern is that "cybersecurity" is far too broad for Bitcointalk, there must be better places to find this information. "Privacy", however, is (in my opinion) severely underrated.
If it's within the main Bitcoin sections, then it shouldn't be a problem. Since, the section it's in, takes precedence. Although, I'd agree, cybersecurity is actually limiting the threads that could pop up. Security & Privacy is just much better, since there's also physical security, and we'll forever be plagued with privacy issues. For example, there's a thread out there investigating companies for selling data, and this sort of thing will always be a threat. There could be companies looking to sell a product, but ultimately catering their business to collect data on Bitcoin users.

So, there's a ton of possibilities if you name it "Security & Privacy" or something along those lines, but ultimately it's in the main Bitcoin section. Therefore, should be limited to Bitcoin related topics. Physical protection of backups, installing software related to Bitcoin, and splitting your wallet up into multiple virtual machines or physical devices all come to mind.
219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tainted coins on: February 17, 2023, 04:47:25 PM
We've all touched tainted cash, the only difference is it's much easier to trace Bitcoin because of the public ledger that we rely. I'd like to think that criminals wouldn't want a permanent association of their Bitcoin to be tainted, and therefore they'd use cash instead. After all, cash is much easier to hide, and much easier to use. I know that isn't the case, but I don't think tainted Bitcoin will be a big problem. After all, they'll be able to somewhat detect when that money changed hands, and if you don't know that those coins are tainted then you aren't breaking the law. It's impossible for the average person to know if coins are tainted. You could potentially be investigated, if the authorities aren't sure if the coins have changed hands, but ultimately that's the very same as cash. If you use Dan Coopers cash, with the serials they'll likely flag that up if they notice it, and ask you in for questioning.

Most of the world is innocent, and it would be a shame to limit a currency based on the select few that use it to break the law.
220  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: February 17, 2023, 04:42:22 PM
It is possible that this case happened because the owner did not realise when removing the contents of the wallet (which we often put in our trouser pockets) when he wanted to pay for something he bought that the paper wallet containing 0.6 BTC fell.
You probably shouldn't be carrying your seed or private key around with you. I'm a big advocate for that, however if you are you should probably think about carrying something a little more substantial, and have it tied to you rather than having it in your wallet where it can fall out undetected or blow away. A piece of hefty metal, would probably be the better option. Although, again I'm not a fan of carrying your seed around you. I'd much rather a hot wallet, that you have to remember the passphrase too, which only has a small amount on it. Enough, for what anything you might want to purchase during your travels.

You don't technically need to carry your backup or your main funds with you. Take a hot wallet, and that'll take care of most things.
