Please open up this bitcoin thing for me.
If i invest 7000$ to mine, like. The TerraMiner
It makes about 1.1btc/day so i can get 350$(@themoment)x 21(days) that estamated 7500$
So three weeks i can make the machines money back and electric bill too?
Am i correct?

Hmm no. Not sure what math you're doing, lay it out please. A single TerraMiner is not going to do this, you would need tons.

Lets do the math with something more tangible;

20 S5 if you get them really cheap and the PSU's and somehow dont have to pay shipping or anything like. You would have 23THs+, maybe 4.5ish BTC per MONTH(and then less and less as time go) and have to pay almost 1000USD per month of electricity per month at 0.1$/kWh.

You could get 3 S7, get like 14TH/s, make almost 3BTC per MONTH, pay 240$ in electricity.

If you see any deal that are very different from this, you are getting scammed.

Thank you! This is new thing for me and i am trying to get into this bitcoin thing. Is there an actually way to make profit off bitcoin?

There is absolutely ways to make Profit off Bitcoin. Many people with high electricity costs will tell you otherwise. 0.1 or higher is expensive. What is yours? And then i/we can easily tell you if there is a way for you to mine at home. If you can't, you can find hosting in countries with very cheap electricity, if you don't mind going that way.

If you find a legit way to get "free" electricity, you're set as well.

And not burnt cable, but scorched 6 pin that I don't like to see. I think the prescribed method of having to power the hash boards then the controller is pretty damn stupid.

top notch chinese quality!!! Grin

at a minimum, you are not being fair.
all iphones are being manufactured in China as well-do you have complains about the quality of these?
I suggest to complain about particular cases, not unfairly generalizing, but, hey, say what you want, of course.

well he said he hot plugged his controllers he may have killed them off doing this.

The problem is the instructions can be interpreted to do just that.

My first thought was that would work if you had 2 psu's  I then said fuck that can't be right. I will plug every pcie cable then turn the  psu's on.  If the hash rate is fucked up I will reboot.

Much more sound to power up  the gear that way.

People need to start gathering more information before doing things like hot plugging live current into the controller. Arcing is never good.

It happen regularly that people think they need to unplug the controller, then power the boards then hot plug the controller. Its not what it says and since its indeed ambiguous, people should really ask before plugging something live. :S

It just mean in the case where there is a need to use multiple PSU, flip the switch to power the PSU that power the controller last/at the same time as the other PSU(s).

I have my multiple PSU on the same power bar anyways so when i want to power something multiple like this, i just flip the power bar's switch and done.

Multi PSU works just fine this way.
2124  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I'm planning to buy 50 antminer s3, how to conditionate a room. on: November 27, 2015, 07:11:09 AM
Hello, the s4 that i bought to test mining is about to arrive. Please can someone tell me the steps to follow to star mining?

First creating a wallet. Done in blockchain.info. But when the machine arrives what i will have to do after plug it in to the electricity and plugin in the ethernet cable?

What pool should i join? Which is the cheaper pool fee that i can find? And all that basically. And how the pool will deposit my bitcoin profits to my wallet? I heard some previous post in this thread that i won't need a computer to configure the s4 to the pool or anything is all done in the s4.

Thats what i said. But i meant you don't need a computer to run it, you need any kind of device that has an internet browser, put the miner's ip into your browser and edit its config there. Probably check on your router on your DHCP lease to see which IP it got. Unless the previous owner put a static IP on it. Do a reset if its not already done in the case where you can't find the IP.

Get a real wallet, SPV wallet is good for the end user usage, something like Multibit HD. If you want a web wallet, blockchain is not a good one. If you're in North America, probably Coinbase. Regardless there's a list of wallet on the bitcoin.org website.

Kano has best payout, very irregular payments because its so small. Slush pool if you want more steady payouts, that one has 2% fee. Mining bitcoin.cz. I strongly recommend the later one or some variant. Preferably not a Chinese pool. (Hash distribution preference)
2125  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have .00000001 bitcoin. Will I be a millionaire by 2046? on: November 26, 2015, 11:52:50 PM
If you are implying US dollars then it depends; do you mean in terms of 2015 US dollars or 2046 US dollars?

There is not going to be 1000000000% USD inflation over 31 years. They would invade more countries to raise their value long before, or get blown up trying to.

And in the first place is categorically impossible. One BTC would be worth something like the world's complete economy. Just no.
2126  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Home Network security issues on: November 26, 2015, 11:36:41 PM
I want to start a rig with an S5, but my dad wants to know more about security issues with our home network. Does setting up a rig risk people getting access to our home network through the miner? And does the block have to get sent by a server that has access to our network or is it just being sent to the S5? I need to know more before I start.

I huh.. What? Tongue

Everything goes through your router, so its your router's security you should be looking at. The miner is behind your router, just like your computer, so its not any different than any other device. The miner can't connect access your stuff unless you hack it in and even then, its not like its RDP. There's very limited access through the webgui.

And all the work your S5 will produce will be sent to a pool (hopefully). No block is sent to a S5 or anything of the sort in the first place.

If you come up with direct questions i or someone else will give you a direct answer.

Also Stock S5 is LOUD.
2127  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: News of a mini RasPi for 5$ How could this change bitcoin mining? on: November 26, 2015, 06:39:31 PM
You can add ethernet to the Pi ZERO by simply plugging in a mini USB to ethernet dongle which costs about $10. But the cost difference between a BB and a Pi ZERO is not even that (reportedly the BB costs bitmain $7) and both will require a daughter-board (even for Avalon).

That is the reason I said the Pi ZERO will not be of interest to Bitmaintech, however, for an independent developer, there definitely is some scope. Technically on a simplistic level, it is merely a matter of serial interfacing with the hash boards which can be achieved with the Pi ZERO as much as it is with the BB.

With regard to bricking, for the S1 and S3 that was an issue in the ealy days, but unless there is damage to components, recovery from bricking is a breeze and aside from time, costs a meagre $3 for a USB to TTL dongle. Ofcourse with the BB, you can always pop down your favourite webstore for a replacement so bricking and time to RMA is moot.

I understand that, but if the RasPi is 5$ to the end user, a big batch could be 3$ or less. Not that i would know. But maybe saving thousands of dollars on many thousands of Miner produced could be of interest to Bitmain, SP, Avalon too, maybe, who knows.
2128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: News of a mini RasPi for 5$ How could this change bitcoin mining? on: November 26, 2015, 06:16:48 PM
I mentioned it as possibly viable substitute to save on controller costs, because just like how the BBB is being used, it run a daughter board anyways. I'm not a hardware expert, but i don't see why it could not have a Ethernet ported added there, leaving the base cost of the mini computer to 5$ instead of 30$+

I reckon without a Ethernet port, the cost would have to be over 5$, but really, how much more expensive could it be to make a batch of thousands RasPi0+ for a manufacturer or for the Bitcoin mining community?

hi,
i have EVGA 500w brand new for 20$ with 3 Year Warranty Power Supply , escrow accepted but you pay the fees.

What would Shipping be to J8T 1S4? If its not overkill, i'd be interested. Let me know.
2130  Bitcoin / Hardware / News of a mini RasPi for 5$ How could this change bitcoin mining? on: November 26, 2015, 02:58:22 PM
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-zero/

Would sure make for cheaper Controller replacement costs?

Not only could Bitmain use these, maybe, in their miners but it just made running USB miners even cheaper. Hopefully it has enough processing power to run the OS and cgminer ~

2131  Economy / Digital goods / Looking to buy legit Steam Wallet Balance/Gift Card on: November 26, 2015, 01:27:02 PM
As per title.

I tried the search function but i only found years old sellers.

Wondering who are the current to date established user that sell their steam wallet at a discount with preferably from Canada (because titles are cheaper in CAD) or the US.

Could also be interested in steam wallet gift cards.
2132  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: November 26, 2015, 03:30:15 AM
I have moved away from this campaign and changed signature to another one. Please consider this post as a notification of that, and consider all unpaid posts (if there are any) forfeited.
Thank you for the time of cooperation we shared.

cheers

Same deal here, and I'd like to stay on good terms for the future, Smiley. This was a great campaign and it wasn't easy for someone to pull me away from it. Definitely an A+ that I would recommend for others (and gladly return in the future if allowed).

I'm guessing you and many others left because the payout per posts was dropped under several other campaigns?
2133  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: November 25, 2015, 08:06:53 AM
Ok, now it s clear there s been some issue. How many people have not been paid during the last round? Has anyone been able to contact Marco?

Am still waiting. I wonder what will happen when i reach the next payout tomorrow, while the past one did not run yet.
2134  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s5 increasing HW error with overclock on: November 25, 2015, 07:04:28 AM
You increase the clockspeed past its specified speed and you're surprised that it misbehaves progressively more the further you push it? Temperature isn't everything...

No, we know HWE% go up because the core voltage is too low for the clock. So we know why its "misbehaving". To drop the HWE% drop back to 0, you raise the core voltage.

So the question is, beside more heat, what other negative consequence there could be by raising the voltage too high? Theory; some components may not be build to handle the extra current, thus even if the chip would be just fine, something else could break.
2135  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s5 increasing HW error with overclock on: November 25, 2015, 05:44:45 AM
Probably the PSU. My crap Gold Raidmax bring the error rate to 0.3% at 393.75mhz and the hashrate is very low, like 1.23TH/s. My corsair does 0.01% HW and 1.27/TH/s. My EVGA g2 and platinium server PSU does 0HW and 1.3TH/s.

I also have one S5 that does 400Mhz 0HW and 1.32TH/s.

Nice....
Can you recommend the EVGA G2 for overclocked Antminer? Thinking that it would be nice to get 400-500 MHz without HW errors......  Cool

EVGA G2/GS, P2 too but its pretty expensive. (Not G1)

Most Seasonic PSU's, Seasonic OEM, superflower OEM. I dont think you can do 408-500Mhz without overvolting, which you would need to do at the PSU. So you would need to get something else.

I don't even know why one of my miners take 400mhz. Logically this means the chip voltage is higher, but i'm not feeding it any current any higher than 12.0X~ I also don't know if there is a danger to raising the voltage too high, aside from more heat. Maybe RichBC can answer that one.
2136  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s5 increasing HW error with overclock on: November 25, 2015, 12:00:27 AM
Hello

It is preferential to run Antminer at 52C-56C degrees. However, at overclock of 381.25 MHz it is only 52/53 and already it spikes in HW error up to 0.0324%. All parts purchased used.

Is this an issue with the PSU? Are the HW error standard at this frequency?

Below are more details.......
Cheers!

Miner: Antminer S5
PSU: Corsair RM750, Model #75-001937, Part #CP-902005S
UPS: APC Back-UPS XS-1500, 1500VA, 865 Watts
One stock fan operating at 3000 RPM. 2x 1080 RPM fans pushing air up from below the machine.
Fan is set to operate at 40% via miner configuration because of noise (placement in living space).
Ambient temperature is currently 67F.

At
350 MHz and below HW error is 0.0000%

At
356.25 MHz
Diff1#.0027% HW error after 35 minutes
UPS: ?? (did not check load values.....)
Temp: 50/51C

At
368.75 MHz
Diff1#.0092% HW error after 30 minutes
UPS: 590watts ~68% load
Temp: 51/52C

At
381.25 MHz
Diff1#.0324% 54 HW error after 15  minutes
UPS: 610watts ~70% load
Temp: 52/53C

At
387.5 MHz
Diff1#.0553% 247 HW error after 25  minutes
UPS: ?? (did not check values.....)
Temp: 52/53C
Fan speed: 2880 stock fan, 1080 2x support fans (decreased)

Probably the PSU. My crap Gold Raidmax bring the error rate to 0.3% at 393.75mhz and the hashrate is very low, like 1.23TH/s. My corsair does 0.01% HW and 1.27/TH/s. My EVGA g2 and platinium server PSU does 0HW and 1.3TH/s.

2137  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: November 24, 2015, 01:09:13 AM
There is no free power. Every source has it`s cost, even solar system must be build, purchased and needs some maintenance. If someone has a free power, then he steel it and consume as add cost for the someone else.

If i don't pay for my electricity, then its free electricity for me. Doesn't matter if the electricity we get is the government's responsibility. You can say that the taxes pay the electricity, so its not free;

But that is moot, because i would not pay more if i use more electricity. I would just pay a fix amount for having electricity. Therefore my electric cost for using 1 miner would be the same as not mining at all.

Therefore for me, mining would be free.

Normally it's not the government footing the bill on electricity but a landlord or parents, etc.   Are you living in something that is like government assisted?

Or is it a company/person who you pay a fixed bill to?   Most fall into this category very few I think have government paying electricity.

You're pretty much right. I formatted the sentence that way just to debunk the "Free doesn't exist" argument, if in effect you don't pay more if you consume more and its legit, then its "Free" to use more. Sure there is always a cost to production, but there is not obligatory a cost to raising consumption.

I said government because since the electricity production here is Government owned which make the electric cost cheap, is thus the reason why those flat rate deal exist with landlords of any kind in the first place.

Personally i deal with a big company, in a big apartment block complex. I don't think its a big deal that i take 200$ of electricity per month during winter when i pay 4 time that as rent. And i don't really think they care, when me using that much electricity doesn't even raise the average of electric cost in the block by 2$.

If you had individual meters and the landlord was just a dude owning a tri-plex. Then yeah they get stingy when you use more electricity than you should. It has happened. Which is probably what most people everywhere are used to.

13 blocks (~2 hours) to go and we're down slightly.

Bitcoin Difficulty:   65,848,255,180
Estimated Next Difficulty:   72,730,764,036 (+10.45%)
Adjust time:   After 13 Blocks, About 2.0 hours

Edit: to put this into perspective - the last 10+ change was November 5, 2014...

Well, November is when the winter cold come, so i'm hoping we can chalk this up as the annual Diff raise that come with the cold coming and many switching to smart ASIC heating for the winter.

Considering the BTC raise we got and that seem to be holding, its not surprising the difficulty went up in the first place. Hopefully it settles... now.

Kind of disappointing, not much of an increase from the stock .284w/gh.  Maybe more tweaking will show better numbers.

yeah I need to disable smartspeed.

oh silent miner it is.

Is it silent at full speed? With the fan rpm listed by the dev, i was pretty sure these were loud.
