2141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Avalon 6's are in undervolt + down clock results. on: November 23, 2015, 04:49:19 PM
Kind of disappointing, not much of an increase from the stock .284w/gh.  Maybe more tweaking will show better numbers.

I was hoping for a super quiet miner that can down volt greatly for higher efficiency. Sound like sadly the S7 might be the better option for both Area.
2142  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS][CAN]Wondering if there are any interests for ZeusX3/Falcon Hashboards on: November 23, 2015, 04:19:20 PM
Almost all the PSUs I have are used 240V server units so if one fails I'm out the $ I paid for it. My electricity isn't free either so I guess its more an issue with my set up and anyone who pays for their electricity.

If someone does have free electricity and you cut them a great deal on these I can see the appeal. If they already own PSUs with a 10 year warranty then all the more reason to mine carefree. Hopefully someone meets this criteria and can take them off your hands, there probably is someone out there who will. I hate to see good working gear go to waste so I hope someone with capacity in need of cheap gear steps up. Its a shame that mining gear can get binned so quickly these days.

Not going to go as far as saying its "Good" Working Gear. Mining with them would be pretty inefficient, but it would be cheap. But i also wonder if someone will pick them up simply for salvage.

Not expecting the value of S1 boards, but i don't know exactly which components are worthwhile.
2143  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS][CAN]Wondering if there are any interests for ZeusX3/Falcon Hashboards on: November 23, 2015, 03:39:11 PM
Sorry to say it but they don't make money with even cheap electricity at the current LTC price. Thanks to the halving they are not going to make anything even at $.05 per Kwh. Then considering the fact that they are well used and could break down on me, and the PSU cost/wear and tear, I couldn't justify using these units even if you gave them to me for free with free shipping. Better to use my capacity on old btc mining gear that will at least give me a slight return for now. I hate to thread crap but these units are basically scrap... These units have gone the way of the old BFL singles, jalapenos, and such gear.

They're boards, not the miner anyways. So i'm not sure how all relevant all that is, but anyways. In term of ROI, if you have free electricity, its about similar as running a stock S1, but with faster ROI because they sell for less.

If you're afraid of wear and tear on 10 years warranty PSU, by running one for the 2 months you need to ROI, then i don't know what to tell you.

As opposed to what others are saying, I like it.
This forum does need a new colour scheme and layout.
It does say child board in some parts still.  Cheesy

As long as we can get a different color scheme. Red/Orange/Yellow spectrum can be pretty irritating over time, so i hope we get a grey or blue color set instead. Would be nice if we could just customize the color grading with a RGB system or just a couples of presets that are easier on sensible eyes.
2145  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS][CAN]Wondering if there are any interests for ZeusX3/Falcon Hashboards on: November 23, 2015, 02:11:45 PM
The GAW Falcon was too much of a pain to ship, so i stripped it down for parts.

So i have up to 8 hashboards for sale, wondering if there is still an interest for those. I kept them on Heatsinks for now but it would probably be more cost effective to ship them without.

Not going to say they're in pristine condition, but they all hashed until i unplugged them.
2146  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] S5/S7 extra long data cables! USA/Canada on: November 23, 2015, 01:55:38 PM
Just wanted to double check that these are 18 pin cables since I've been reading up on the S5 and they seem to have one model that came with 16 pin connectors and cables.

Yes, but you can saw off the extra pin, if you need 16 pins. So the best of both worlds. Just make sure you otherwise follow the pinout. You need to remove the last 2 pins, not the first 2.

Here, RichBC posted a pic with the pinout; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1217478.0

TLDR: The cable is fine for both 16pin and 18pin. We're not sure what the extra 2 pins does, but it works fine either way.
2147  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s5 stoped hashing on: November 23, 2015, 01:53:38 PM
Hello guys,

I have a problem with my antminer s5. Few days ago it stoped hashing and i dont know how to handle this. The miner looks like is working properly but is not hashing and i cannot acces it from my browser. I tried reset, factory reset, i have searched his ip with advanced ip scanner and i cannot find it. Do you have any idea why and how to resolve this? It may be an ip conflict problem but if i cannot acces it i dont know how to resolve it. thank you

You could remove or change the other miners that could conflict in IP. Then set them all to DHCP, then reboot your network. If its a IP conflict issue then it will be resolved. Always use DHCP. Then set static DHCP lease from your router, if its proper, it will have the option to do it.
2148  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: November 23, 2015, 01:45:50 AM
That's a  lot of boards. are all of them dead ?.

No all the S1's work. (But the trade in values will probably be worth it, since they are my most inefficient miners now) Most of the Tubes board work well, 2 not, 3 poorly. And the two S5 boards are dead.

Actually, the point of antistatic bags is they are conductive. Static happens when a charge builds up on nonconductive surfaces so they can't dissipate naturally and wait for something conductive to shunt them, sometimes destructively. Static bags aren't as conductive as aluminum foil, but they do have a better tensile strength and are easy to seal against humidity.

Thanks, i learned something tonight. Smiley

It was easier to just move a good working beagle-bone to another miner. Booted right up and started hashing good, so this does confirm a bad hashing board. Sad

Never wanted to risk popping out the BBB, thanks for telling me its doable if you have a spare. If its any consolation, the dead PCB is sellable for parts. If you can't fix it, you can sell it easily on the forum.

I would not be surprised if you received PM's about it soon, if you have not already.

I asked my Dad to take apart his bad rig and put it back together. Sometimes just doing that has helped me in the past. The daughter card has 4 connectors on it, so I would imagine it can run 4 hashing boards. I have tested those connectors a year ago with just connecting on the same miner and worked as normal but since they have been running so good I don't touch them. I'm just trying to eliminate everything. There's also a 4-5 pin cable going from the daughter board to the hashing board. Not sure what that is yet.

Yes it can run 4 boards at the same time. But according to Bitmain, thats the way to go (turning the board over). Maybe each side are run through different electronics, so if it dies both board sockets on one side could die.

But since we already know its the board that has a problem. You could try to reflow resoldering. And the 4 pin from one of the board to the controller is there to power the controller.

The design isn't final.

Exactly.  Styling the forum is one of the easier things to do - and it is usually done last.

Don't worry - the powers that be will not release something ugly and drive people to other forums.

Custom stylesheets and/or Stylish is easy to make and use.

Yeah i'm not big on that scheme. I think having color scheme presets so the user can customize the colors would be nice.

I find yellow tones to orange pretty grating. Its hard to explain.
Apparently something to do with how many color chrome the person has in their eyes (2, 3 or 4). Meaning a good % of people would get irritated by the color yellow, orange etc, like bees. These people tend to lean toward blue, purple colors.
2152  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: November 22, 2015, 11:52:52 PM
Honestly, wrapping it in foil would protect just as well.

I did not know that... xD You're saying i can wrap the PCB's in aluminium foil and it will be protected? I was thinking using something conductive to wrap them in would not be a good idea.

And no interest in Zeus X3/Falcon Hashboard for salvage? I'm not sure which components has value to you.

2153  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: November 22, 2015, 11:49:53 PM
I've fixed this before, but forgot what I've done. Can't remember at all. All dashes on the first row, and then sometimes a few X's on the second row. Sometimes starts hashing around 300-400G, but never above. Tried another PSU. This is my fathers rig, so I haven't asked him to try another controller. I'm guessing controller, hash board, or possibly a cable, but I doubt it is a cable. Any guesses? I just have remote access to it right now, but can ask my Dad to try a few things.

First thing i would do is turn the controller 180 degree and effectively swap the blade. If its now the bottom blade (on the webgui) thats dead, then you know its not the controller.

Assuming he tried a power cycle already.

I've re-flashed from the SD card and also updated firmware. Done all the "software" related procedures so far. I think it is the controller, but just a guess right now. I'll ask him to try that. The data cables are cheap and do fall apart easily.

Then i guess software side you can't shut it off for 20 seconds, with PSU unplugged and then replug it. That usually solve minor issues like a couples of X. But a blade line full of X, not so sure. Still worth a try.

I have indicated in the original post that another PSU was tried, hence it has been power cycled a few times.

You actually cannot rotate that beagle-bone board 180 degrees. The Ethernet square drops down into that green board so when you turn the beagle-bone board the Ethernet jack hits the circuit board below since there is no hole/cutout there for it. Yes, miner has been power cycled several times and a BLAH.

Don't pop out and rotate the beagle bone, i'm not suggesting you pop it out and pot in back on the daughter board. The controller, that is the BBB+The daughter board, can be rotated just fine. Its just to swap the PCB's. Its the only way to do it if you don't have long 18 pins cables.
2154  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: November 22, 2015, 11:46:02 PM

Thanks! Uline also had similar MOQ. However your search led me to smaller amount of the same thing. I think this will do for all the hashboard for now. Much higher priced per bag but i don't really want to fork over 100$ for a thousand xD

http://www.amazon.ca/50pcs-Shield-Anti-Static-Shielding-180mmx250mm/dp/B00TX2SRQA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1448235197&sr=8-3&keywords=Anti-Static+bag

Will probably be a tight fit for the long S5 one, but will probably be okay.

Meanwhile i have 8 spare Zeus Thunder X3/Falcon Hashboard, i dont suppose those hold salvageable value?

After I have a working board with favorable test results. I've been tied up with manufacturing Compacs and PSU boards the last two weeks so I've only just started on the pod prototype. Today I hope to finish up the pick-and-place program and get most of a board assembled. Firmware will have to wait until after the holiday but I have enough tools to manually test hashing and power. If that's good, and Novak can get some base-functionality firmware and cgminer driver proven, then we'll start taking in orders.

Thats great.

I don't know if you will still take in the boards i have, when we're able to take orders, but i'm wondering, does anybody know where in Canada i could get the anti static packaging bag to put the blades in? An online retailer in Canada would work too or a really cheap on in the US too?

While i only have the 2 S5 blades, i also have 14 S1 Blades and 12 AsicMiner Tube Blades. So i'll need more packaging than i have already.

there are a bunch of antminers on ebay that are sold with an included power supply you cna buy one of those

otherwise i would go with corsair mostly(fully modular), and maybe cooler master

My experience with cooler master is not really good. But that is related to the merchant i bought it at.

Corsair however are the best i experienced. Very reliable and they honor their warrant. I sent 3 back and they sent me 3 new ones.

Yes, but you need to keep in mind, Corsair doesn't actually make PSU. You need to check the OEM. So corsairs has some bad PSU, and some great PSU. Thats because some are made by Chinese crap and some are made by Super Flower/Seasonic.

For the Thermaltake. They are generally not good but also not too bad. Its not worth cheaping out on PSU, imo. Especially with how affordable the G2/GS and some modular Seasonic PSU are.
2159  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Looking to start Mining on: November 22, 2015, 04:10:48 PM
I am looking to buy my first miner and start mining.  The office space i am renting included my electric in my rent.  There is over 500 offices in the building I am renting, so I am thinking I can make my office work for me and purchase a few miners and have them running 24/7 in order to maximize my profit.  I have been looking for miners to purchase and I am told they have no power supply.  is there a special power supply I need.  Also I found one miner with 2 bad boards, I am not sure if I can buy more boards to replace these and get a good miner cheap.  I am just looking for some recommendations.

Any PSU PCI-e connector will do. ATX or Server PSU both work. I recommend you stick to EVGA G2, super flower OEM or Seasonic/Seasonic OEM. You can run those at their full rating no problem. EVGA G2's also have 10 years warranty and efficiency rating just under Platinum.

A good middle ground ASIC right now would be the Antminer S5.
2160  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] S5/S7 extra long data cables! USA/Canada on: November 22, 2015, 04:07:20 PM
Alright, I have more in stock.  Unfortunately, many of the packages with more than 5 cables were refused as letter-mail, and the shipping price ended up being double.  I've had to revise shipping prices accordingly, I have approximately 90 more in stock at this time, and have more on order.  For this reason, I'm setting max purchase of 10 at a time for now.

Might be interested in some more. Do you also sell 6pin to 6pin cable with good gauge? 6pin to 2x 6pin would be of great interest too.
