2161  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-24] LocalBitcoins Bans Bitcoin Buying in Iran on: May 25, 2019, 01:22:15 PM
Binance banned people from Serbia to authorization on the exchanger. That's only one of examples with which I faced directly. Who knows who else suffer from such kind of relationships?!

Do you mean you can't get verified to increase the daily withdrawal limit or you can't use a credit card with Binance? Serbia isn't on the restricted countries list.
2162  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay no longer serving banned countries on: May 25, 2019, 01:11:26 PM
Yeah, Localbitcoins is the confusing one, having recently blocked users from Iran.  Would it be something to do with them technically qualifying as an escrow for all the trades there?  It wouldn't surprise me if part of the US sanctions against Iran included preventing companies from offering escrow services to Iranian residents.

That could be the reason, but I would have thought being based in the EU (and not using the US banking system) would be enough to be unaffected by US sanctions. Perhaps they have investors based in the US, or EU sanctions against Iran are strong enough to prevent them from servicing people from that country.
2163  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay no longer serving banned countries on: May 25, 2019, 10:08:13 AM
I could not find anything for Bangladesh, but the rest of the countries appear to have banned bitcoin/cryptocurrencies in one way or another.
Indonesia has banned payment gateways from accepting bitcoin according to the above wiki article.

Yes but Localbitcoins doesn't need to make use of the legacy financial system of these countries to serve users there, they could easily ignore the law and let people transact at their own risk.

Do you have any ETA on when you guys are going to require KYC like your competition (Changelly & Shapeshift)?
2165  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Blacklist of exchanges. Independent rating on: May 24, 2019, 11:58:17 PM
Have you posted some proof that they are scam exchange?
I used Binance and Huobi for how many months I didn't encounter any problem on these exchanges.
Maybe Binance had mistakes once ain't know if they are victims or their strategy but they are back operating now and many traders continue trading there I think that is not enough to accuse them without specific proof.

Didn't Huobi, along with several other Chinese exchanges, have huge issues with fake volume? I think Binance is the least sketchy one from OP's list.

That's actually a good thing, I wish more signature ad campaign had no minimum quotas of posts per week, people shouldn't be incentivized to make useless posts or risk getting booted out of a campaign.
2167  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Robinhood Crypto Launches in New York on: May 24, 2019, 11:47:08 PM
Currently, you can invest in seven cryptocurrencies on Robinhood Crypto: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, and Dogecoin.

Interesting choice of cryptocurrencies seeing how bcash-SV and ETC made the list, but XMR and ZEC didn't.

LOL.  FFS, no option to withdraw bitcoin from Robinhood, just buy or sell.  So I take what I said above back: people will be buying crypto on Robinhood just to speculate on it.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, though.

For better or worse, this is what most people buying cryptocurrencies are looking for: make money from speculation. They'd need to spend more money on customer support and dealing with hacked accounts, people sending to wrong addresses, educating their users about network fees, etc.
2168  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay no longer serving banned countries on: May 24, 2019, 11:34:33 PM
Anyone know what's their reasoning on banning these specific countries? Serving Iraqi users might be unnecessarily expensive from a compliance PoV with BitPay based in the US, but the rest I don't understand.

LocalBitcoins has officially shut off service for Iran-based users, a move that follows weeks of rising rial trading volumes on the platform.

The Helsinki-based peer-to-peer exchange has not explicitly said why Iranians are suddenly being cut off from its service, though U.S. sanctions are almost certainly the cause.

News of the move first circulated across local language Telegram channels earlier this week that the exchange had blocked Iranians. Users reported encountering problems in posting new trades and updating previous ones on the website. [...]

May 23, 2019: Regarding Further Questions About Certain Bitcoin Registrations

The Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office practices provides that an applicant may request expedited consideration of an application by applying for “special handling” pursuant to Sections 207 and 623 of the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices.

Special handling is offered as an optional service for an additional fee of $800. Under special handling procedures, the Office “will make every attempt to examine the application or the document within five working days thereafter.”

The Copyright Office’s records indicate that special handling was requested in both registration Nos. TXu002136996 (text) and TX0008708058 (computer file) issued to Craig Steven Wright on April 11 and April 13, 2019, and that the Office did accordingly expedite processing of the applications.
May 22, 2019: Questions about Certain Bitcoin Registrations

As a general rule, when the Copyright Office receives an application for registration, the claimant certifies as to the truth of the statements made in the submitted materials. The Copyright Office does not investigate the truth of any statement made.

A registration represents a claim to an interest in a work protected by copyright law, not a determination of the truth of the claims therein. It is possible for multiple, adverse claims to be registered at the Copyright Office. The Copyright Office does not have an opposition procedure for copyright registrations, such as the procedures available at the Patent and Trademark Office for patents and trademark registrations. Disputes over the claims in a registration may be heard before federal courts, including disputes over authorship of a work. Someone who intentionally includes false information in an application may be subject to criminal penalties.

The examination process is primarily focused on determining whether a deposited work is eligible for protection under the Copyright Act and whether the application satisfies the requirements of registration. The Copyright Office will correspond with the claimant to clear up any obvious inconsistencies. The Copyright Office may similarly correspond with a claimant if a deposited work seems to include portions a well-known work whose author is known.

In a case in which a work is registered under a pseudonym, the Copyright Office does not investigate whether there is a provable connection between the claimant and the pseudonymous author.

In the case of the two registrations issued to Mr. Wright, during the examination process, the Office took note of the well-known pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto,” and asked the applicant to confirm that Craig Steven Wright was the author and claimant of the works being registered. Mr. Wright made that confirmation. This correspondence is part of the public registration record.

Thanks for the encouraging comments, guys. The consensus seems here seems to be that I should contact Bittrex support. I thought of doing this, but felt odd about it until I heard it from you.

To condoras: I will try the link you provided. Thanks.

Post on reddit and twitter too if you don't get a response soon, it's crazy that they would give such a short notice before blocking your funds.
2172  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitstamp :( warnings and rejoinders. on: May 24, 2019, 07:42:21 AM
New issue with Bitstamp Sad

Now they are bothering at least one person for 'documents' about where Bitcoin came from.  This person is not in Europe or in the United States and has nothing to do with either geographical area.

The thing is, for some people buying 10 BTC cost about $20 back in the day, and plenty of people obtained a ton of BTC from mining.  There would have been no reason to keep detailed records of anything back then.  Bitstamp was around back in those days and at least some of them should know this.  They keep bothering people with the same questions over and over again and threatening to hold back wire transfers unless information which doesn't make any sense (and is fairly private even if it did.)

What do people suppose is Bitstamp's game here?  Are they working for some entity to get sensitive information about people?  Are they under the thumb of some national or multi-national interests and forced to gather information about citizens from third countries?  Are they just accumulating data for their own use and/or sale?

This is just bitstamp being bitstamp, next time please do some more due diligence:

Bitstamp - wanted to withdraw money and was hit with these weird KYC questions

Obviously anyone doing anything over trivial sums of BTC needs to have multiple exchanges to use.  Any recommendations which are working somewhat at this time?

I could, but not for USD.

If it's just for selling off coins and not day trading, then you can try localbitcoins in person cash trades. Especially after you have earned some positive feedback you can place ads and sell coins above the market price. I would stay away from bank transfers, or anything similar where someone could send you money from a compromised bank account.
2173  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How do you feel about businesses that stop accepting Bitcoin? on: May 24, 2019, 07:06:07 AM
I am not aware of any business you can buy plane tickets with bitcoin, although you can use gyft to buy gift cards for various airlines.

Cheapair.com has been accepting Bitcoin for flights since 2013 and Air Baltic started accepting BTC in 2014. There are several more places where you pay for flights with BTC:

2176  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BestMixer is gone, seized by the Financial Crime Investigation on: May 23, 2019, 01:00:47 AM
Europol states that "the investigation so far into this case has shown that many of the mixed cryptocurrencies on Bestmixer.io had a criminal origin or destination" and that "the mixer was probably used to conceal and launder criminal flows of money."
https://www.theblockcrypto.com/tiny/dutch-authorities-seize-crypto-mixing-service-bestmixer-io/

It's not me who thinks it, it's the facts. And we'll see that it'll only be a matter of time, one by one will fall all the main mixers because they have no control over the origin of these BTC.

Yes, I think it's just a big recycling and they don't serve anything else.Justifying a crime with another crime (bank recycling) is not a good reason to defend a substantially unnecessary service.

Time is a gentleman.

"many [...] had a criminal origin or destination"

"was probably used to conceal and launder criminal [...]"

They're speaking in platitudes, if they had been able to prove bestmixer knowingly worked to launder criminal proceeds, they'd be much more confident. Meaning they spent tax money chasing a business they can't even tell if it caused anyone any harm.
2177  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BestMixer is gone, seized by German juridiction on: May 22, 2019, 06:22:35 PM
It is right to close these shits. These are just a den of bandits, services available to criminals.
Why should I, who am clean, be using a mix?
Why does bitcointalk continue to allow advertising of these services clearly at the service of criminals in order to collect money?
This is bad for crypto.
Anonymity is not favoring illegality.
Now ban me too, but I am convinced that like me there are hundreds of thousands of people who think what I just said.
Enough advertising of ILLEGAL services on bitcointalk is enough, just look at this page to understand how many banners there are.
And I think that even bitcointalk publicizing these services unconsciously is doing nothing but favoring these criminals.
It makes no sense to try to justify the unjustifiable, those services are RECYCLING.
I do not pretend that everyone thinks like me, but I can assure you that I am not alone in finding these UNNECESSARY services for non-criminals. If you don't commit a crime, you have no reason to dirty your coins.

Daftness alone isn't enough to get banned.

Just because you assume only criminals value privacy doesn't make it anymore true.

If you never mix or otherwise obfuscate your coins everyone you do business with can glean some information about you, such is the nature of public ledger.

How did they manage to get access to letters of guarantee? Weren't they supposed to be deleted 24 hours after transaction got confirmed?

The investigation started last year, I'm guessing like with some darknet markets, the Dutch police decided they'll run the service themselves for a while to glean some information from people using the service. Or they managed to locate bestmixer's servers and install a backdoor.
