1241  Economy / Exchanges / Re: LBC/LocalBitCoins-Can not log in on new device/laptop -Not receiving Email?? on: November 15, 2019, 10:45:22 PM
My guess is one of the three applies here:

1. Something's wrong with whichever company you're using for email/check the spam folder;
2. Someone hacked into your account and managed to change the email address but didn't change the password;
3. You've actually used a different email address to create your LBC account (happened to me once a long time ago, took embarrassingly long to figure this out).
1242  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services) on: November 15, 2019, 10:23:56 PM
With Silkroad if someone was willing to hire a lawyer they might have stood a chance at regaining their money if they didn't buy anything illegal on the site. Here it's different, agents of FSB are known for acting against Russian law and using their powers to extort businesses and to threaten its owners so that they sell their company for less than it's worth. That's why I'm skeptical that anything will come out of it if FSB is involved. Even more so since we're talking about an exchange many falsely and without basis believe was used predominantly by criminals.
1243  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services) on: November 15, 2019, 04:45:47 PM
$107M of cryptocurrencies on the above addresses, some more on Binance, some more elsewhere probably, fiat money who knows where. If it's FSB which has got the money now, it's as good as lost.
1244  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay -- KYC is here! on: November 15, 2019, 04:38:13 PM
hi. Do you think it's worth accepting bitcoin payments for small businesses?

Unless you really must, I'd use a different service, one which doesn't make it harder to pay for the user, one which doesn't block entire countries or dare ask buyers for KYC.
1245  Other / Meta / Re: {LIST}of the Merit Sources asking for more/less source merit, @theymos. on: November 14, 2019, 08:58:36 PM
The spice merits must flow!

Nice. I'll be able to properly look through the art contest thread now/tomorrow and reward more of the worthy submissions.
1246  Local / Polski / Re: Odzyskiwanie kyptowalut ze scamów/hacków on: November 14, 2019, 08:54:52 AM

1247  Other / Meta / Re: {LIST}of the Merit Sources asking for more/less source merit, @theymos. on: November 14, 2019, 04:03:43 AM
I also frequently run out of merits so you can add me to the list if you want to. It wasn't a problem until around March-April of this year, I wasn't as active for the first year or so since the introduction of the merit system.
1248  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: BAT / Brave; split z: gdzie rozdają kryptowaluty za darmo? on: November 13, 2019, 09:44:45 PM
1249  Local / Polski / Re: Odzyskiwanie kyptowalut ze scamów/hacków on: November 13, 2019, 09:34:37 PM

1250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is twitter a good source of info? on: November 13, 2019, 05:17:13 PM
When used as a source of fresh news/info, like reddit, maybe. It's terrible for any sort of discussions, though, and I'm not sure if positives outweigh the negatives. It's a shame the two have grown so much over the years.
1251  Local / Polski / Re: Ogólne rozmowy na temat kampanii sygnatur on: November 13, 2019, 04:51:00 PM

1253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and tax in your countries on: November 12, 2019, 01:47:56 AM
It's steal great that in most countries you can buy little things like gift cards without having to pay tax. The money you're saving this way will not be life changing but every small amount helps.
I have been taking advantage of the german law for a long time now. As long as you are able to prove that you held for more than a year you don't pay any income tax. It's also easy to withdraw small amounts like €1k even if you did not held for a year.

If you guys decide to buy a house tax free, maybe it would be a good idea to move somewhere else, get a residency for a year or two and come back with the money.
It won't be worth it for someone with 100k EUR but if you are ready to convert a million or more, your Polish tax is going to cost you almost 200k EUR. You can buy a nice house for 200k. Would you be willing to donate it to your government? I sure wouldn't.

I'm not sure if that would work for bitcoins acquired before moving abroad.

And higher costs of living abroad while leading similar lifestyle would have to be subtracted from 190k not that one still wouldn't save a lot of money if it was possible.
1254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The welfare costs of Bitcoin on: November 12, 2019, 12:35:34 AM
I appreciate your opinion, but I think Bitcoin has to wait until we see the outcome of Ethereum 2.0 when it becomes POS in the next few months.

Bitcoin doesn't care what is going on with Ethereum so it doesn't have to wait on anything.

And no one has figured out a way to make PoS work without turning a cryptocurrency into a PoS so until that changes the discussion is pointless.
1255  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: New service for getting back your stolen crypto from scams/hacks on: November 11, 2019, 10:56:59 PM
do you already have a customer that has their funds stolen from your supported website?
because if you already have done it maybe that customer can share their testimony so many other people that have the same problem will use your service

AFAIK, it's a new service so there are no testimonials to speak of yet.

Scammers/Hackers are smart enough to overcome any form of advancement to get them caught. In the real life itself it is getting hard to find the scammers, with cryptocurrency network everything is interconnected as well it gives the freedom through the pseudonyms feature. Anyhow such initiative of service program is interesting, but it would be good if it attains good success rate.

Scammers, phishers and DNM users/vendors are getting nabbed left and right - even if it's only a minority, many of them leave enough of a trail to track them down.
1256  Local / Polski / Re: Odzyskiwanie kyptowalut ze scamów/hacków on: November 11, 2019, 10:52:30 PM
No nic innego nie widzę..

Tak, bardzo szeroko pojęty tracking. Jest dużo sposobów: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Privacy

Oczywiście wszystko probabilistyczne, ale często i to wystarcza. Coinfirm współpracuje z różnymi giełdami itp., więc od nich też muszą mieć trochę danych. Jestem ciekaw jaki średni czas oczekiwania zwrotu środków ludzie będą mieć, w końcu mowa tu o współpracy pomiędzy różnymi jurysdykcjami.
1257  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-05] Bitcoin Price Hits $11.6K on Argentinian Crypto Exchange on: November 11, 2019, 06:57:40 AM
that usually indicates problems with the exchange, not increasing nationwide demand. the largest argentinian exchange isn't even listed on CMC so i have no basis for comparison.

if ripio customers aren't experiencing fiat withdrawal delays, i would guess this was just a temporary spike due to lack of liquidity.

Or there are capital controls or similar restrictions. There was a point during which on all Chinese exchanges, and later on all Korean exchanges Bitcoin traded at a significant premium because of how hard it is/was to transfer fiat money between them and other countries.
1258  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitfinex - are you mocking me? on: November 11, 2019, 01:57:44 AM
They have become like other exchanges now. Since other exchanges have become picky, it means bitfinex could have been attracting some more of the 'riskier' and riskier types, enough to cause them trouble, I think.

1260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and tax in your countries on: November 10, 2019, 11:54:15 PM
In Poland there is a 19% tax on profits made from selling, that includes buying goods or services, but it does not include cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency transfers. It used to be more complicated in the past.

I will just say that anyone who pays crypto tax in Croatia (currently and in the past) actually donates state money. And why do I say that? Well, because you have the ability to change crypto (in FIAT) to a certain value per transaction (1000 Euros - daily) without ID, and also to buy/sell gold with crypto in a same way. You also have physical and online stores that accept crypto, which is also a perfectly legal way to avoid paying taxes (or at least it can get you save some time on keeping FIFO records) but you still pay very high VAT.

To be clear, I'm not for tax avoidance - but if there are legal possibilities for me not to pay that tax, then, of course, I will use them while they are available to me.

That's all nice and fine until you want to buy real estate or a car, unless Croatia is different in this regard, which I doubt.
