Update: limit from now is only 5 posts / day

1283  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New IRS 'guidance' on: November 07, 2019, 03:42:41 PM
that was my initial reaction, but it's not really that bad.

when a hard fork occurs, no markets exist for the forked asset yet, so the fair market value is zero. that means there is no taxable income at the time of receipt. down the road if you sell, the entire realized sale would be considered a capital gain.

I wonder how would it be treated if futures of a soon-to-be hardforked coin were to be actively traded somewhere. Would that change things?
1284  Local / Polski / Re: Coinbase on: November 07, 2019, 03:32:52 PM
Zcentralizowana.

1285  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: November 07, 2019, 03:21:35 PM
Which in your opinion are the best exchanges for crypto-to-crypto (non-fiat) trading that do not require KYC?

I think Binance is mostly fine, at least for now (as long as you're not connecting from one of the restricted countries). Bisq isn't bad either but it's a different thing so it's very limited when it comes to volume and available trading pairs.
1286  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: November 07, 2019, 04:29:41 AM
Oh it seems to me that you consider it low standards when people know what they Accept in the TOS before they use a service. Roll Eyes

I haven't used Bittrex since they started asking for KYC. Before that, they didn't have these 0.25 BTC extortion schemes going on.
1287  Other / Meta / Re: Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: November 07, 2019, 02:21:07 AM
Some of the merit sources are out of merit, maybe increasing the source merit for this period while the competition is on will help to choose the best ones.
Many people have already zeroed their merit stashes around the first 10-15 pages of the thread.

Here's a list of the MS in need https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5198889.0

Yeah, I could do with some more merits, got very few left after meriting only a couple people. I wanted to wait until near the end of the contest a go through all the posts and merit the most worthy ones, but even that may be difficult if I'm meriting other posts on the forum day to day.

I don't envy theymos, over 2 weeks left and there are already hundreds of submissions Tongue

If you are worrying about someone using the data that you are posting  online then you should probably rethink whether you want to post it in the first place. If you are posting/sending personal data then it should always be encrypted anyway. Theymos has shown at least that hes only willing to release data that he has to because of the law but is not going to release data he thinks is irrelevant. I think in the past he has released information only on big cases such as the silkroad messages.

If someone has been harmed and they report it to the police, that might be enough to convince theymos to release information that could benefit an investigation. For victimless crimes afaik theymos will only cooperate when legally bound to (e.g. a valid US court order).

Just because no one should be using an exchange as a vault, doesn't mean an exchange has the right to steal from its users. You must have very low standards of cryptocurrency exchanges if you think that is okay, that might be acceptable for a shit-tier exchange such as Yobit, but not for legit established businesses. Or it shouldn't be acceptable, perhaps this is what an average user expects  Roll Eyes

1291  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos - how about verifying for Brave/BAT? Easy extra revenue. on: November 06, 2019, 08:46:12 PM
Shitcoin peddling in Meta?

Have the company behind Brave/BAT relocate to someplace more business-friendly so that they may forgo their KYC/AML BS and you'll have won half the battle in the quest of not being outright dismissed.
1292  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: British Tax Authority Updates Cryptocurrency Guidelines, Says It Is Not Money on: November 06, 2019, 07:58:17 PM
Obviously gentlemand is far more qualified to answer this so I'll let him go through the details but I do share his view, as my first impression was that large scale mining is also subject to corporation tax.

No corporation tax if you don't incorporate, only personal income taxes then apply to a private person or that + social security taxes if it's a sole proprietorship/self-employment.

1294  Local / Polski / Re: Cryptopia Zamknięta!!! on: November 06, 2019, 07:33:52 PM

1295  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: November 06, 2019, 07:15:05 PM
Actually, it was on their Recovery Policy (updated since 2017), not new : https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000961172

Aside from Bittrex's notification about the token being delisted, have you informed people via your newsletter or social media accounts about it? If yes, then you and Bittrex did your part. Also, if the users put their coin/token on exchange, they should know the risks.

Only 30 days is way too low, people go on vacations lasting longer than that. It's a clear money grab IMO.
1296  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Going to my first meetup on: November 05, 2019, 08:14:09 PM
Its good that in your city there are meetups and you can go and social with other Bitcoin holder and adopters. In Romania , I'm still waiting for a new meeting to be announced and I think it will come in 2020 as our local board is in a continuous growing in users which is nice to see! There were some meetings here to but you had to pay a lot in order to enter and they were NOT organized by the community and by some international guys who came to promote some projects or some ideas. Personally besides this I would love that in the next year to participate in those meetups in Malta <3.

Mircea Popescu organized at least one meetup in Timisoara, you had to pay but it wasn't that much at the time, IIRC. Meetup.com tells me there are some normal-looking Bitcoin meetups there from time to time.
1297  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Looking for an exchange with .onion address on: November 05, 2019, 06:51:11 AM
None that I know of and when I see how they bother us with all the KYC/AML it doesn't make any sense on their side.
As an alternative, you could use a decentralized exchange like Bisq, which uses Tor for end-to-end encrypted communication, or service ŕ la Changely/Flyp.me over Tor

Bitfinex used to have a Tor mirror, and they've been known to require KYC/AML even for cryptocurrency withdrawals.
1298  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling cigarettes on: November 05, 2019, 01:10:44 AM
I can buy a pack of low quality cigarettes for .50 in my country. Camel and Marlboro deliver upper middle quality.

I SHIP FROM COLOMBIA and MEXICO

Yeah, that's very cheap. Cheapest I have seen was $0.70-80 in Ukraine for a pack of shitty cigarettes with no filter.
1299  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: November 04, 2019, 09:08:06 PM
Who exactly is this game rigged in favor of then?? Because I began investing in the Bustabit bankroll roughly three months ago and I'm actually facing a net loss at the moment.

But you're probably not far from breaking even right? I'm guessing no more than several weeks away assuming most of what you invested was 3 months ago. At least bustabit has enough volume, on bustadice it takes longer to pay off the dilution fee.

3. Necroposting (bumping old thread/s) is something we should totally avoid, even if we are interested in a similar topic it is advisable to open a new thread, where it will be much easier to have a discussion.

I'll have to disagree on this one, it's one thing if someone is just looking for an excuse to post to rack their post count for that weekly signature payment, and it's another if someone has something on-topic and relevant to say, sometimes just revisiting an old(er) conversation.
