221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 03, 2015, 05:37:36 PM
Came today 2 S5. Version 1.91 and 1.7. In version 1.7 does not work one of the blades

http://joxi.ru/v297DonsXyg7rG

Mine looks like that too -- it was working for a day or two.  It was too loud in my office for me to even speak on the phone, so last night I removed the pull-fan fro one of my S3's and replaced the S5's push fan with it -- had to splice to extend the wires because they didn't reach.

Now it is nice & quiet, and still running at acceptable temps < 65

BUT chain #2 is dead -- all dashes :-(

How do I go about troubleshooting?  I reseated all of the power connectors (twice), and the two grey data connectors on top.  But I'm not sure what to try next.  My warranty is clearly null and void :-)

thanks,

-dave

I had some zeros drop off my chain and was only hashing at 450 or something similar. I unplugged the miner. Removed the two black sides, visually checked everything over and slightly tightened the screws with the springs. I found a few really lose. I don't know the torque setting to use, but I was very careful and used a little drive where I couldn't over tighten at all. Some times just doing things like that to these miners make them work when powered up again and it did. Got all my zeros back and hashing power. I also re-seating the ribbon connections. I have no idea why that would "fix" anything, but if it works, don't knock it.

222  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: April 02, 2015, 05:40:53 PM
This is strange. Been on this pool with almost a whole week with 7TH and only getting .05 return? All stats look fine. I would get at least .06 on Ghash. Is luck that bad now here? First time trying this pool out and my earnings have just dropped considerably.

223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 01, 2015, 08:28:33 PM
Westhash still paying pretty good? What's the price you use in the password line?
NiceHash/WestHash payout depends on their hash sales -- always in a state of flux and often less good than mining BTC directly, but happily often not.  My payout threshold depends on current BTC Difficulty and so I change it every two weeks.  My current value is "p=.0109".  It'll change again by Monday coming.

I was going to give it a try, but doesn't going back and forth on your primary pool reduce your return? I also don't have the time to keep checking prices and values, nor where to look to know what number to enter in. More reading to do. I've been doing a lot of screening the forums so I missed a lot on the Westhash stuff.

Depends on your pool.  If you are on Slush, it only takes about an hour to get ramped back up to full payment; or at least very close to full payment.

I was reading Organofcorti's blog about how Ghash.io had a lower return compared to others, but I did leave a response asking if that was picked just from a date range or not. At any given time one pool or another could look really good, and look really bad. I don't see how Ghash.io can even implement skimming or stealing your money. This is what I have been told. I mean they have huge data centers of their own, not sure why they would even bother doing anything like that. Unless my perspective is off a little. I don't know.

I have purchased eight (Cool of these fans in total from the same seller on Amazon:  Delta Electronics PFC1212DE 120x120x38mm Cooling Fan, 252.85 CFM, 5500 RPM, 66.5 dBA, 4.8 Amp, PWM Connector (4-pin).  It is $27.00 with free shipping.  You do not have to be a Prime member to get free shipping on this one.  The seller is selling this through Amazon.  I'm sure they have already added shipping to the price.  It's worth it to me to pay $7.00 more for a great quality fan with lots of CFM.  This thing is a beast!

I use this fan as a replacement on my S4's and S5's.  I plan to replace the stock fans on the SP20's with this fan as well.  This is what you need when replacing fans for the SP20:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161350482183?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Here is the link on Amazon to the fan:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQ18UDA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You see the watts consumption @ 60 watts when at full throttle with 5,500 RPM's:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__MhqY1zPK8

You see a 3-pin version of this fan turning the blades of another fan in this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqc72EOuteU

You get to see the guts of the fan in this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo7nHzNXjww

And you said you had your rigs in your garage, right? That would explain why you would replace the stock fan with even a louder one. Unless you have a nice shed or offsite barn or something.

Just three fans available and mentioned, with the cheapest being the thermalright. I have this running on my S5 without PWM in a pull configuration with a stock S3 fan on PWM in a push configuration and my temps struggle to breach the 52 mark during the day (it is winter turned spring ... just), having skirted the mid to late 60's with just the stock S3 in push full pelt!. I can say noise is definitely less than a stock S3 fan running without PWM.
PS. though I run the thermalright without PWM, the maximum the S5 has reported it running is 2400 (despite it being rated at 2500).

Fan  CFM   Noise RPM Depth (mm)
Thermalright  130     45   2500     26.5
Noctua  109.8    43.5   3000     25
Silverstone  171    43.5   2000     38.5

Saying that, I'd swear by these HP Proliant ML530 130mm Fan TA500DC. I have a couple of these running on overclocked S3's in a pull configuration with voltage limited to approx 7v thus less noise. I'll probably be running one (if not both) of my next S5's on these though ....

I was in Microcenter the other day and they had a Delta Fan Delta AFB1212SHE for $20.  Couldn't pass it up since I had one on the truck.  I can't tell the specs of it.  I see several different models on the website:

http://1stpccorp.com/fan_delta_120mm.htm

I do know it is 1.6A rating, but that's about it.  But like the specs I see.  It also has a 4 pin connector.

Damn, i missed UPS.  Off to the service center i go.

Delta's are usually screamers. I think I saw the same fan at MicroCenter. It was the only Delta 38mm model there and it even said on the package you may need ear protection when in use for long periods of time.

What is the fan model on the S3. Have to remember there are lots of people out here that do not own S3's and do not have those fans. Also if you buy a 2000 rpm fan it will probably run at max speed all the time. So if there is a 3000 rpm fan and a 2000 rpm fan each rated at 43dB the 3000 rpm model will be more quiet because it has a little more room to keep temps in check. You also really can't go above 120mm in size. If you do the fan will be larger than the whole miner itself and be just wasting air. For this one, ya gotta spend the cash on the Noctua's since in my opinion are the only ones that can keep up in this environment and keep temps in check. Soon though I'll have all my S5's in one room after I run a few electrical lines with my dad over the weekend. Then coupled with a window air conditioner on a high setting so it is not on all the time should be just fine for temps and good for the ears. Smiley

I'm starting to think these miners should have been what the C1's were.

They run with that open-built extremely loud full speed fan and still are over 50C.

Even the SP20's at Fan speed 50 are more quiet than these things.

I will use a new cheaper mod tonight-we'll see if it works. ~$20-24/miner.
Lowes in my area is completely out of pan M4-0.7 35-45mm screws. had to buy hex.
I surmise that S5 modders scooped them all up, LOL.

i think im going to probably pick a couple of these up.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220056

they seem to flow alot of air and are a tad quieter..
probably not as quiet as the fans on the s3, but as long as they dont whine im ok.

It's my opinion that a fan with lower CFM than 4,000 RPM's should not be used on these rigs.  They do run very warm with one fan.  I presently have temperatures of 62 C on Chain #1 and 62 C on Chain #2 with the single fan at 3,840 RPM.  The Ambient temperature is 74 F.  The true purpose of getting a second fan should be for proper cooling of the unit.  One should not be concerned as much about the noise as they should about proper cooling of the rig during the hotter months of the year.

Yes, a fan with 4,000+ RPM's will cost more but it's worth it in my opinion.  Proper cooling and longevity of the rig is more important than the noise level to me.  My opinion; that's all.  Please don't take it personal.

David

The location matters too. I don't care how loud mine are because they are in my garage and can not be heard in the house. Now if it was in my house I would have to reconsider my options.

The only fans I've seen cool an S5 in a push pull setup were the Noctua Industrial 3000's. While temps went to 59-63c that's well within spec of the unit.  2 140mm fans are too large. Won't be able to funnel all that air into the miner.
229  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 01, 2015, 05:26:30 PM
The S5 are running great and so I've moved them to CGminer 4.90 and 312.5MHz.  The highest reported temp is 57C with an S3 push fan and no pull (ambient ~72F, fan rpm 3240).  Am intending to try the FHP141 as a pull.
My final two S5 shipped Friday and would have arrived Monday, but somehow, the UPS driver screwed up the delivery and a different driver completed Tuesday -- bummer on the whole day delay, lost some good WestHash payout Sad!!!

Have received two each by USPS EMS, Fedex, UPS, and all would have been "two day" delivery (excluding Sunday and the UPS SNAFU), lowest shipping cost was EMS via DHgate back in January.  The latest two (with S3 push fans) are setup side by side on the floor of my coolest room running 312.5MHz and temps 47/42 and 43/40 (top temp was 59 Vs 52 at 350MHz over a 2-1/2 hr check out). That first consistently runs by far the highest temp and fan speed of my three pair and makes me consider the heat sink paste mod described earlier** (currently 2760 Vs 2160 rpm) -- it also had pre-damaged Phillips head screws by whatever gorilla installed and warped the plastic side panels (since loosened).  Am expecting to give Silverstone FHP141 pull fans a try this coming weekend.

Thanks again Bitmain for the timely ordering assistance (Janet/Tim) and quick turnaround of the order -- here's looking forward to learning about the next generation!

There's not much you can do out there with fans unless you use two of those Noctua IPPC 3000 models. They have beeb bought up everywhere, assuming S5 owner's are buying them up by the dozens. Any fan(s) that have a high enough CFM
to properly cool the miner will always be too loud.

But I'm still curious as to what your plans are?

Good day.

Wondering if I can get an update and provide it to the members of the group:

- SP20/30/31/35 - SOLD OUT - When can we expect more?  I know you were selling refurbs and those are gone as well.
- When can we expect next gen smaller nm process?  Please advise

Thanks

My guess, and this is just a simpleton's guess here, late half of 2015 or even later. Spondoolie's is now reaping the rewards from pumping out all that hardware to the consumer's so they can get into the big data centers. I doubt they will make anything close to being a "home" miner at all. All rack mount products with massive power supplies on board and costing what a small car costs. Well, at least a used small car. I believe the only people that will be interested in Spondoolie's next hardware will be someone with at least $10-$15k and a place to run it.
232  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: March 31, 2015, 05:13:04 AM
are people still on this pool?

If you do the math yourselves, we ran a 2 month samples set on Ghash, and got about 20% - 30% less than what we calculated.  Over 2 months, we should expect to see less than a 10% bad luck, month over month though.

They claim to be zero fee, but don't publish there PPLN stats.  I've been on ANTPOOL with 3 petahash's now for several months after being robbed blind from Ghash.io, and I have gotten exactly what was predicted, perhaps more.  Right now pool luck for last several months is at about 102%

Like I said, we have an excel breakdown that shows the prediction of what we should have gotten vs what we got over a more than a 'week span' 60 days.  I believe it's high way robbery and you can tell this company is desperate.  Get your coins out if you have any there before they take them all when they file chapter 11.

I've stopped using them as a backup pool so it insures they don't make anything...

All your posts, literally, are all negative towards Ghash. When someone posts so much regarding the same thing over and over it makes it more hard for us to believe you. I was very skeptical when I switched to Ghash a while ago.  This was when they were like %30 of the network and everyone wouldn't shut up about a take over. See folks, it never happened. All that gossip over nothing. Anyway I ran the miners I had one month on the Guild. Just left the coin I earned right in there. Then I switched over to Ghash and ran them for the same exact days and left the coin in there. Both pools ran smooth, no outages on my end or their end. The bottom line is I earned approximately %14 more while hasing on Ghash. You can't just join a PPLS pool for a week and use your final numbers to say that Ghash is a scam or they steal your money. At LEAST 30 days you should mine at a pool to get your stats/figure. Go ahead and try your test again, and when the miners are mining on the pools don't touch them, just let them do their thing! Clean out  your hot wallet on each pool  you are going to test and test again, but at least 30 days.

Can someone tell me the difference between the multiple revision boards? Usually if there are several revisions of the same  thing indicates there could of been a problem with the old revision and was fixed. Just curious minds want to know.

Looks like old firmware

What is the last firmware ?? Does it help on perf??
Yes, reduced cpu load to 20%, fresh cgminer 4.9.0 and nice  graphs  Cheesy

Where did you get it? How does one install it? No idea how to update firmware. also, is it third party? Last thing I want to do is brick it.

If you need help, just PM me and I'll walk you through it if you want.

My new miner is hashing along nicely.

Where do you have that thing, sitting in the freezer?

BITMAIN sends Used miners and different revisions. I Got rev1.5 and rev1.9 with a ton of dust
(batch 5)
Sad

You purchased these new and they sent you used miners?

both my SP20E & SP30 are STILL offline with seemingly dead MMC boards.

Multiple emails to @support have gone unanswered.

STILL waiting on the experimental SD card/firmware...

STILL waiting on ribbon cables...

STILL waiting on a reply that isnt 'karma-derp/mail@support'...

Dude, everytime I visit this thread are you having different problems or is this the same one that is just dragging out over time? Why can't it just be taken care of by SP-TECH and be done with it?

238  Economy / Computer hardware / ATX Power Supplies... on: March 29, 2015, 06:28:39 AM
I have 7 Corsair RM1000 power supplies for sale. These are for PICK UP only in NJ. Too much trouble and expensive to ship these out.

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/rm-series-rm1000-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply

They are all still in warranty and and run computers and miners great. Me and my father are installing a power distribution system to power everything and getting away from individual power supplies. I would like to sell them all at once. I believe they are only 1 year old so still have a 4 year warranty on them. I would be asking for $140/each. Remember, this is for PICK UP only in NJ. These are too heavy to ship and would add lots of money to the price. If you are interested please let me know. Serious buyers only please. It is not a huge discount because they still are all in warranty but if you are interested in them all you could save approx $210. Get back to me when you have time.

Thanks,

Mike

Please DO NOT place cardboard or any flammable item on top of the Antminer.  It can be a fire hazard.

What about some thin plastic like the sides. Does it get hotter on top then the sides?

[Unofficial mod] If you choose a plastic type with a Tm of 100C+ you'll be good. Alternatively you could use electrical or duct tape.

do you know what size screws i should get for the back fan?

also would adding a back fan decrease the temps enough to slow down the front one??
what if i used one of those fan speed adapters.. im assuming the fan is just a regular 4 pin pwm connector?
i have a few of those that come with CM fans that are preset to 1800 and 1600 and 1200. altho i think those speeds are set for a 2500 rpm fan, i think its 70% 60% and 50%

Screws are M4 .70. Then you need to find the length you want.

I'm trying to setup this program on my VPS, but there is only one port open on these miners. If I forward that port to one of miners I'll only see just that one miner and not the rest. An example would be

http://my_ip:4028

I'll setup port forwarding in my router but how would I configure the other miners as well? Because the main page comes up real nice on my VPS.

Thanks,
