+1 to the advice. WHen I was still GPU mining this was my constant nightmare. I had smoke alarms and checked my cables every few days. I once had a smoldering PCIe connector, that didnt help me relax. To be honest, considering the amount of electrical gear deployed for  mining, its surprising we dont read such stories more often. Particularly if you factor in exploding/melting/arching  BFL power supplies.

But Im a little stumped how in this case, the ATX cable got fried. Its not used. Well, only to jumper the power good switch, but basically there should be no current flowing through there whatsoever?

The power of greed alone will make people do just about anything. Even put themselves in danger.  If you do things right, there is nothing to worry about. Taking a quick look at the picture thread really proves most have no idea the instant danger they could be in. When power cables get warm that is evidence of too much resistance and should be an indicator of a problem. This is why I spent the money on another power supply even when the original setup was working fine. Upgraded power supply to an RM1000 and have been very happy ever since. Most of it is actual common sense really.

Considering BTC is going through a slow crash we may not see those awesome high prices again just a few weeks back. I remember selling 1 coin for $1000. Not it is half that, and my miner isn't making coin any faster. This down trend makes me think twice before dumping any more money into mining hardware. KNC "should" sell their Jupiters for what they were charging for their Saturns, which was $2995. I actually paid the higher original price and then KNC lowered the price on all of us and gave us the middle finger if we asked to be compensated for the difference. Right now preev has it at $550. And now an entire government is trying to ban bitcoin from its own country. This is a real hard time for bitcoin right now, because we are putting basically value on nothing. At least with real money, it is tangible in my pocket. This is the first time I'm feeling pretty bad about the whole industry....I think the global banking world is just too powerful right now for bitcoin and we'll probably never see BTC go over $100 again once it eventually dips that low. Most of bitcoin users hoard their coin anyway. And that's not helping anything. They just can't let it go.

Then on the Jupiters possibly going on sale....I'm sure you noticed that KNC has posted their holiday hours right on their front page recently. This is in preparation to list the Jupiters, because if they are listed anytime before Januray we all know we won't see a delivery until after the New Year, but KNC will be added a few million to their bottom line numbers before the year is out. They wanna go out with a bang apparently.

It was fun while it lasted I guess....

I am not so pessimistic. Way too much money has and is being poured into bitcoin-related businesses and it has very good worldwide exposure. I think of it as facebook of cryptos. Probably not the best, but will be dominant due to overwhelming popularity. So, I am setting aside my 10 btcs and not touching it. If new Jupiters are priced so that I have to dig into that, well then no Jupiter for me.

10 BTCs may not be enough if the drop keeps dropping. You'll need more like 15+ as it what seems to be happening.

Anyone have an inside scoop of when KNC will possibly list Jupiters? It will be Christmas in 11 days, then New Year's so anything to do with shipping will be delayed or who knows what. Are they thinking of releasing maybe this week, the next? I'm probably positive someone must have called them to ask. And most likely wouldn't post that "secret" info here.

Given their past pricing trend I am expecting the new batch to be anywhere between USD 2995-3995

What was the price of the original Jupiter? $5k? $6k? I forgot. It has to be much lower than the original price since so much time has gone by and return is much lower now.

Strange though we don't hear anything from KNC about ANYTHING until some news about other companies coming out with a possible delivery. I bet that made KNC's head turn a little bit...so much they had to make a news annoucement in advertising selling hardware again. Pretty soon we will have other companies to finally choose from and won't be locked to a mouse quiet KNC. Even to this day, have they helped anyone on their own forum? Even after saying they would provide that support. It will definitely make me think twice if I buy any more hardware.

We have a slow crash happening.
1188  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: So, is Armory back to a working program? on: December 16, 2013, 11:23:06 PM
Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it another try, since it was my go to client when I first started to use a local wallet. I really do not trust an online wallet like Coinbase or anything. Even with the very small amount of coin I have, I really rather have it local. I guess 14GB is worth it for now, since space is cheap...unless you are running an expensive SSD system, then every GB counts.

As Holliday said, you there's some tradeoffs to be made.  Luckily, the latest version should run pretty smoothly once set up.  We have had reports of problems, but it seems most people are successful.

By the way, you can use --dbdir=X to move the 14 GB of database files elsewhere.

Does the DB itself need to be on a fast connection? I can most likely throw it on a share if I do need the space that bad. I'm running it in a VM so I think I just may have enough space as it is now.
1189  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: December 16, 2013, 11:17:51 PM
My father locked his wallet. The BTC address he is using is tied to an Electrum client wallet. We recently updated his Electrum client and that program removed all the old receive addresses and made up all new ones. The obvious question, how do we work around in getting his payout address changed if it is locked? If the answer is you cannot change it (which is what I think it is), he would have to create a new account or something, correct? Since he would be unable to continue to use his original Electrum address.

I'm still waiting for the Electrum devs to answer on where all the receive addresses went to after the update. All the transaction history is still there, and even in the details of the transactions you can see the original BTC address, just don't know how to get the originals back.

If the transaction history is still there and you can still see your wallet balance, I can't imagine the keys to that wallet were lost (otherwise you wouldn't be able to spend anything).

I want to make an update on this....my original receive address was there. I never clicked on the little tick mark that opens up the "used" address list. That is where my old address was hiding on me. I indicated to the Electrum dev that it was a mistake on my part. Thanks for the suggestion, I was just about to do that but found the old address. Yes, I feel stupid but humble enough to admit it to the world.
1190  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: So, is Armory back to a working program? on: December 16, 2013, 11:11:55 PM
Electrum and Armory are different applications.  Besides the server issues, it's a major privacy issue to be sending your wallet addresses to a bunch of a different servers.  If you have $100k+ in Bitcoins, I wouldn't want to be advertising that in plaintext (along with my IP address) to some random nodes on the internet.

That's not to say it shouldn't be option:  we believe it should be.  It just hasn't been prioritized yet, because there are many people (especially with the 10x increase in price) who are willing to put in the extra effort to maximize security & privacy.   We will be starting work on a mode of Armory that has similar properties as Electrum.

On that note, 0.90 does fix the resource issues.  It uses only about 200 MB of RAM, and starts up very quickly.  But it does require 14 GB of disk space (to be reduced in a future version), and some users have reported problems with their particular blockchain files (we're investigating now).  It's not for everyone, but most people have been reporting success with it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it another try, since it was my go to client when I first started to use a local wallet. I really do not trust an online wallet like Coinbase or anything. 1191  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My receive addresses changed after upgrading? on: December 16, 2013, 11:06:20 PM
DAMN it....this is a misunderstanding. I just clicked on the little tick that was near the word "used" and that showed my original address with my label. This was very scary for me. I'll update the thread title if I can.
1192  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My receive addresses changed after upgrading? on: December 16, 2013, 11:01:04 PM
what you are reporting is either a very serious bug, or a serious misunderstanding...
can you provide more details? what exactly did you do?

I was running version 1.9.3 or which ever version was right behind 1.9.5. All I did was installed the new version which replaced the old version. I ran the new version and all my history was there, everything looked fine. Then I clicked on the RECEIVE tab and noticed all my old receive addresses are gone and were replaced with new ones. I have locked wallets for deposit addresses and if I can't use my original receive addresses I'll be in trouble. I even opened up backed up wallet I had (wallet.dat) that I saved previosly and that didn't bring back any of the original addresses. To me, this is a big problem especially if I have my receive addresses locked in at different places. I'm just wondering how do I get back my original receive addresses?

I really hope it is just a misunderstanding on my part.

1193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: December 16, 2013, 10:50:13 PM
I think it will go back up again.  However, query how much was due to China buying and now the Chinese can't buy as easily so there could be a problem with ramping back up.

What happened with the Chinese? It is hard for me to read everything, always busy at work 12-14 hours a day.

1195  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 16, 2013, 10:42:09 PM
I installed the latest beta and this client still seems to be a resource hungry monster for some reason. After hours and hours of syncing with the blockchain I was able to finally see my wallet. I run all my bitcoin associated programs in a VM, so I can't allocate so many resources just for one program. Once I start and run Armory the VM slows to a crawl and I get a lot of "not responding" windows and have to wait for the program to catch up. Is this normal the latest beta? I thought that's what was going to be fixed in the new release?
1196  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: error: {u'message': u'TX rejected', u'code': -22} is back HELP on: December 16, 2013, 10:00:49 PM
So this bug has been fixed in the latest 1.9.5 release? I don't want to start dumping my coins into Electrum wallet until a few issues get resolved. I'm waiting to hear back from another thread about my receiving addresses all being changed after the upgrade.

Thanks
1197  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: December 16, 2013, 09:56:30 PM
After I installed 1.9.5 all my receive addresses changed. How do I get my original receive addresses back?

Also, was that bug fixed when sending coin it wouldn't send and come back with some weird error? I posted this a while ago and will dig up the old post if needed.

UPDATE: this is not a bug. Stupidity on my part. I never clicked on the little tick mark that opened up my old/used addresses.
1198  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My receive addresses changed after upgrading? on: December 16, 2013, 09:47:17 PM
I was using 1.9.4 I believe for a while. I had an address I used all the time for receiving BTC. Right after upgrading to 1.9.5 it changed all my receive addresses to new ones. I really want to keep my original addresses, since they were statically configured/setup at different places. How can I get back those addresses?

Also, if those addresses are gone, where did they go?

After thinking about this for a while, this is a serious issue. If someone used an address with an older version and passed that address around and uses it as a deposit address or something then you upgrade to the newer version you are royally screwed here. I have my "old" Electrum receive address used on several sites as a deposit address, even as a donation address. Now those addresses are gone after the upgrade. The history is still there, but the addresses are gone. The more I think about it, the more serious this issue is. Has anyone else lost all their receive addresses when upgrading to the latest version?
1199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 16, 2013, 09:32:51 PM
I love reading all the socialist posts about corporate greed. You realize that you are trying to make money yourself, right? Hating on a company that is also trying to make money is BS. KNC doesn't control the price of bitcoin on the free market, and if they decide to open up orders for jupiters during a price drop I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.

haha, PLUS 1 BILLION.

how dare a company want to make profit!!! I WANT ALL THE PROFIT FOR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WORK!!!!

Bunch of pussies on here i tell ya
The company have made a profit. A massive profit. Millions. They are somewhere between $50-100 million in sales, right? That's a very comfortable position.

So there is no reason why they can't thank the people who put them where they are, who gave them a free loan to get them started, by offering them goods at a very low price.

They gave people who ordered knobtunes 25% off, so you'd expect at least that again. And as that was only to 1200 customers, there are probably another 3-5000 customers who could do with a nice deal. Especially the October people, who risked everything on an unknown start-up in Sweden and paid a massive premium for their goods.

And I'm not saying that for me, as I stated before, I would never support a company like this again.

We'll see what they think of their customers and how they show their gratitude soon enough. If they try to profiteer, it says volumes and just adds to the negativity they have created by how they ignore customers once they've taken their money.

Corporate greed is why the US economy is so fucked up. Millions of people losing their homes, poverty at all time high but corporations and banks made profits. Doesn't make sense to me because eventually, even if it years later the shit comes back to haunt you. All the middle class in the US need is one big ass riot. If they aren't working, the the rich aren't getting paid. This is why I have a sore spot for corporate greed. It is unfortunate so many families lost their homes, lost their jobs in what is supposed to be the best country in the world. Not any more. Sad
Ok, way off topic.

KNC is waiting for the price to drop below $500 before announcing in stock batch 3 Jupiters, BTC payments only.

But remember, BTC payments only but in a USD price. They are a half bitcoin company.
