2521  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thinking about running Node if possible, your guide is needed on: April 04, 2022, 10:15:02 AM
Becoming a miner on the network and becoming a node on the network, it's totally different.

People might misunderstand and think two activities are the same because I am sure big mining farms do run their own full nodes. However, as a miner, you don't have to run a full node to mine Bitcoin. You can simply connect your miners to a mining pool that have their own full node. You just put your hashrate into that pool, mine and receiving mining shares with them.

Additionally, there are full node and prune node. If you want to run a Bitcoin node, it should be a full one, not prune one. If you don't have enough storage capacity, let's use SPV wallet such as Electrum wallet.

2522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.com Wallet KYC on: April 04, 2022, 04:34:39 AM
Yes, OP mentioned blockchain.info before, but now it has changed its name to blockchain.com. They are not like coinbase, they provide seed cluster for us and we have full control over our assets. But as OP said they started offering KYC, I think it's not secure anymore.
If they give you (customers) mnemonic seeds, you still have control on your coins. At least until they do some crazy changes. Meanwhile, to protect yourself, you can import wallets by given seeds to Electrum wallet ie. and move your Bitcoin to another wallet (not another address in the same wallet).

Read my topic, link above for a simple guide.
2523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.com Wallet KYC on: April 04, 2022, 02:44:05 AM
I'm starting to believe that even wallet providers and exchanges are shifting towards a centralization of cryptocurrencies, debunking previous theories about anonymity of funds and personal freedom.
It's a natural trend. Crypto market need more regulations in order to expand its adoption. Regulation and adoption will move together. I believe that we won't see massive adoption if there will be no more and stricter regulations on the crypto market.

I share two topics on KYC and wallet recover with seeds from Blockchain.com

2526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is MicroStrategy planning? on: April 03, 2022, 04:40:46 PM
I can not say words on behalf of MicroStrategy. What I wrote might be right or wrong but it is only based on my understanding and my own thinkings

  • We knew well that total supply of BTC is 21M (a little less than 21M). Anyone who don't know, please check Controlled supply
  • In another presentation, you can see that in the end of 2032-2036 era (any day in 2036, let's assume in middle of that year, May to June), 99.2% of all BTC in total supply will be mined, then only 0.8% BTC left for mining till around 1 more century, 2140 year
  • Now, let's do a simple math. 0.8% of 21M ~ 168k BTC
  • Next, how many BTC MicroStrategy has owned so far? Check there https://bitcointreasuries.net/. It's 125k that is not too far from 168k. Amazing
  • Their plans? Perhaps trying to accumulate to around 168k or more than that, then in 2036 they will shill it massively on the Internet. It would bring massive positive hype on the market
2527  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which rookie candidate will make a better trader and quickly too? on: April 03, 2022, 02:29:50 PM
- Is it the candidate that learns trading from someone directly, that is - pay someone to teach them?

- Or the candidate that invest time into online resources to teach themselves?

Practice makes perfect.

Moreover, what is good for your teacher, might not be good for you. Because you have your own traits that decide how you response on the market. You are the one stays in front of the screen and open, close your positions.

Learning is key and essential for your beginning phase as well as anytime you can learn something new. But practice helps you understand what you learn better, improve yourself gradually.
2528  Other / Meta / Re: Why people reserve the second post in a thread? on: April 03, 2022, 02:15:42 PM
But a few threads have the second post reserved by the OP by basically posting a "reserved" below the original thread. What's the purpose of this?
Only a thread starter is allowed to do this.

There is no rules on max reserved posts by thread starters (I could be wrong). I remembered some members said it is restricted to 3 reserved posts only. However, in the past, I made more than 3 reserved posts in my topics but I did not get any issue from moderators.

In fact, from my observation, for signature campaigns or bounty threads, mostly thread starters did not actually come back to edit reserved posts with additional content. Anyway, if rules allow it, it does not harm when you reserve some because you might need them in future.
2529  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always go through CMC when trying to find info about a project, avoid fake links on: April 02, 2022, 02:06:28 PM
The advice is not actually true for all cases.

First, the best place is an official website of a project
Second, Coinmarketcap or Coingecko can be gold standard but they are third party sites and you know in some cases, information on CMC or CG are outdated.
Third, nowadays Coingecko is more quickly in terms of information update. Coinmarketcap is very low responsive to support ticket.

So if in the past, we considered Coinmarketcap as a gold standard, now it should be changed to Coingecko.
2530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: Crytpvise Reward Program [HOLD] - Article, Video, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter... on: April 02, 2022, 11:28:31 AM

  • They might comeback next 15 days, when the maintenance is done

  • The topic is locked now. I will reopen it when Cryptvise team done their works and the program will be continued
2531  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammers are growing in numbers every day on Twitter, be careful out there on: April 02, 2022, 05:17:07 AM
Scammers are in two main categories
  • Old members with high followers but such accounts used for advertisement, shilling services. The owners behind such ones don't mind what projects they are advertising for.
  • New members. Some tips to detect newbie scammers
      • No avatar
      • Twitter username are mostly non-sense and end with random number series
      • Very low followers
      • Past tweets are very little in number and have very low quality
      • Ask for money, access to private keys/ mnemonic seeds, etc. They mostly aim at things related to money
You can use this one to check their audit score: https://www.twitteraudit.com/
2532  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How true is this ? on: April 02, 2022, 05:07:07 AM
I heard you can burst a project by asking questions, if they are hiding something they won't be able to answer all questions thrown at them, is this true?
You can ask any question you want. There is freedom of speech for everyone, especially on the Internet, in crypto. But it's worth to note that based on moral principles, asking questions should be constructive and authentic. If your questions are made because you want to create FUD, it's bad and unacceptable in moral aspect.

Quote
What questions can one ask a project dev or team to know if they are up to something good or bad?
If you are an authentic member, your questions should be constructive then it will be helpful not only for yourself (to clear your mind about that specific project) but also can help other members in that project community. In addition, sometimes your questions are helpful for developer team or marketing team in that project to improve their project and their strategy.
2533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Freedom Software --> Support Freedom Software on: April 02, 2022, 03:46:49 AM
One very important distinction: All freedom software is completely open-source, but not all open-source software is completely free.
All good software should be open-source but an open-source software might not be a good one. Open-source is only one of components in a software and it does not decide all about quality of one software.

Open-source and good wallet or not, to get freedom, people must use it in appropriate ways. Just like how they use Coin Join transactions and change addresses. They must have comprehensive understanding on pros and cons of address reuse, combination of outputs after CoinJoin transactions, mixing, etc.
2534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tips] Ways to Protect Recovery Phrase - Mnemonic on: April 01, 2022, 03:21:09 AM
Given that this thread is in the Beginners and Help forum, the whole topic could be condensed as follows:

Write it down on paper, make at least two copies, and store them safely and separately.

That's it.
I agree with you. Keep it simple for newbies. They just make several copies and keep them safe and in secret place.

It's not good if they start with complicated process and don't actually know what they are doing. In the end, it would be a nightmare if they lose in a complicated procedure to recover their wallet.

So, to start off, they should use a simple method, backup on paper, test validity / usability of their backup, try to recover their wallet with backup. If the recovery works, they can start using wallet.

The step to test validity/ usability of backup is very important because if you make some mistake when backing up your wallet, it won't work in case you need it definitely. So in the end, it is like you don't have any backup at all.

After being proficient with a cycle from create, backup, recover wallets on paper, they can try other methods.
2535  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about sharing merits on: April 01, 2022, 03:11:27 AM
You can use your smerit (sendable merit) not merit. Don't misunderstand two different things. You can only send your smerit to others, not merit. But they will receive merit. You will have smerit as half of merit you receive and you can send your smerit to others.

There are many ways people use their smerit but the best one is send it to constructive members with their quality posts, not fancy ones. Sometimes people do send smerit to fancy posts but it is not actually the most appropriate ways to do. It results in arguments in the community as well.
2536  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tips] Ways to Protect Recovery Phrase - Mnemonic on: March 30, 2022, 02:41:05 AM
TXT File - Bad because it can be hacked in normal conditions. Unless if you encrypt it and put somewhere safe. But, this is still more dangerous than a piece of paper, because you can be hacked before the encryption or you might do something wrong if you are a newbie.
I don't use it because of above reasons. Not all people manage to assign an air-gapped devices to store such things so we should not use it at beginning.

I use paper to store mnemonic seed too but I never store them on digital device.

Another recommendation is people should have plan, in case they accidentally pass away, someone they love should know where they store seed and know basic steps to recover wallet.
2537  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About $600 millions hacked on Ronin Bridge 6 days ago on: March 30, 2022, 02:35:32 AM
Another reason why you should avoid investing in shitcoins and start investing in Bitcoin. This is the second biggest hack after Polynetwork as per Bloomberg.
Inaccurate comparison in my opinion, Mt. Gox is a hack on an exchange and it does not relate to Bitcoin. The hack on Ronin Bridge is more technically related to its blockchain and operation of Axie Infinity.

Mt. Gox is not a Bitcoin security breach but this hack on Ronin Bridge is Axie Infinity security breach. They are different and what you compare is just value of the compromises. You can compare them in finance but can not do so technically.
2538  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tips] Ways to Protect Recovery Phrase - Mnemonic on: March 29, 2022, 04:54:46 PM
Using memory and brain to remember mnemonic seed is bad because even you have excellent brain and memory which do help you to remember mnemonic seed in normal condition. Unfortunately, you don't know that will your body be normal or get accident in future. If it turns to be abnormal by any accident which causes damage on your brain, destroy your memory partially, who will be able to help you for recovery?

txt file is bad too and in my opinion, password manager is good and easy to use. Steel plate is good but it is expensive to own.
2539  Other / Beginners & Help / About $600 millions hacked on Ronin Bridge 6 days ago on: March 29, 2022, 04:28:31 PM
I am shocked when I saw this tweet and more shocked to know it takes 6 days to be noticed.

This address is reported to involved in a hack targeting the Ronin bridge. It is the biggest hack on crypto bridge as I know. It is no fun for Axie Infinity team and hope that they will recover from this one.

2540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox may return Bitcoin worth over $6 billion on: March 29, 2022, 02:00:18 PM
From a scam exchange to a collection of NFT from them. Do you put your capital into their hands again? I don't say bad people or bad team can not change to good one but if it is me, I don't put my capital at risk like that.

If they do their return distribution, it might create another FUD wave that will affect the market. People might worry about selling pressure from people who get their Bitcoin after years. Obviously years ago, they bought Bitcoin at much lower price than now. In my opinion, it won't bring much selling pressure because not all of them will sell on the market in a single day.  In addition, total trading volume last 24 hour of Bitcoin is $36 billion according to Coinmarketcap
