Resident idiot here.  0.9 is synced and I tried to restore a wallet from seed which after difficulties I was able to do in Oct. after updating to the windows beta.  I tried the instructions on getmonero.org>knowledge base but when I try any commands it thinks it's a wallet name so obviously I'm at the wrong spot but don't know where the correct place is.  I looked at my postings from Oct. as I was successful then but it was no help Tongue

Maybe I do need a GUI after all Tongue Grin

If you are trying the --restore-deterministic-wallet argument, it will ask you for a wallet name first, its just like creating a new wallet file except you are providing the seed. So you may be on the right path after all.

Thank you King!

Not that I have listed all my contributions, but today gave 1,000 CKG (valued about 900 XMR) to the Monero House.

Just wanted to bump the thread Smiley

Thank you all the devs for making it happen!

I am so happy with Hydrogen Helix I decided to increase my previous 100 CKG donation by 900 CKG, for a total of 1000 CKG donation to MoneroHouse! Thanks to all the devs.

update: 996 CKS donated to the Obelisk! Consumed 83 TS156 CKS coins.

PS. Seems to be a bug with M right now. When I consumed the CKS for the Obelisk, my M balance was deducted...? And it shows -6 mil now on the main page, but in Agora is the same as it was before (about 10 mil).

Hydrogen Helix runs fantastic on OSX.
Any plans for implementing the terminal buttons? (Tab for filling in, and up arrow for last command)?

Thanks!

rlwrap works on Linux (mentioned at the end of the README file). I don't know if there is an equivalent utility on OSX.

If you have Homebrew (if not, get it, it's the best!) you can brew install rlwrap.

Now when you start up simplewallet in the terminal instead enter rlwrap ./simplewallet to launch simplewallet with rlwrap. You can now use up and down arrows to cycle through your history of commands, but no tab autocompletion.

I will update this post when I figure out how to add commands to the rlwrap completion dictionary...

Next you'll probably want to add an alias for starting simplewallet so you don't have to type rlwrap ./simplewallet every time. So add a line in your .bash_profile like this:
alias simplewallet="cd path/to/bitmonero/build/release/bin && rlwrap ./simplewallet"

Many years ago, the citizens of Crypto Kingdom donated 2079 CKG to gild the Most Esteemed Obelisk in Old Town, one of the first landmarks of the Kingdom.

The year is now 1620, 100 years after the great Trust In Economy era, in which nobody was certain if CK would last or not.

We have since continuted to thrive for another century, and it is time to erect another great monument to celebrate.

Citizens, we must cover the Closing Obelisk in 2-C with Silver! Located in Trust In Economy Square, this obelisk was built in 1599.

It is not yet known how much CKS we need to cover the obelisk, as silver is not as malleable as gold. We are going to need as much as we can get!

Everyone is hereby encouraged to donate as much CKS (or IC) as they can for coating the Obelisk in silver. If you want to donate IC, the conversion rate is 2:1 CKS:IC, for example 2500 IC would get 5000 CKS.

Just CONSUME item amount [obelisk] to leave a note that it is for the obelisk!

Sweep dust sends all dust outputs back to yourself with mixin 0 - essentially consolidates your dust outputs so that you can spend them.

Because you were pool mining early on, unfortunately you have a lot of dust. Pools have since stopped sending out such small payments.

Ok, that is because the transfer is not being made.

Can you confirm you are sending your transaction with 0 mixin?

If you type "help" and see the "sweep_dust" option you can also try that.

I sent with the recommended level of 3 mixin. I tried sweep_dust and it says its an unknown command.

You're going to have to send with 0 mixin if you want to move those coins. What you can do is create another wallet and then transfer 0 to that new wallet. This will consolidate your outputs and now you can send again to your intended destination with mixin 3.

It should work but be advised there is a 10 XMR "import fee" for doing this.

The reason for the fee is that it is somewhat of an intense CPU process to rescan the wallet from 0.
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: December 31, 2015, 10:42:40 PM
The mnemonic seed is the list of words that you can use to restore your wallet, this is generated when you create a wallet.

I see you were trying to use MoneroX, what were you using before?

If you are using simplewallet it is easy to get the mnemonic seed by typing "seed".

The .bin.keys file is the important one, remember that. The only way to import your wallet to MyMonero online is with the mnemonic seed. You can't just get this by looking at the .bin.keys file because it is encrypted, so open with simplewallet and type seed.

The "transaction too large" error is a problem that to my knowledge is fixed in the current versions of simplewallet. If you are not able to compile the latest version of the wallet from source, try sending to another address with 0 mixin (transfer 0 <address> <amount>). If you DO have a new version of simplewallet there is a command called "sweep_dust" that does this for you.

The reason you are getting transaction too large is that you have a lot of dust outputs.

It is interesting to note that the two big XMR rallies in June 2014 and March 2015 happened shortly after DASH rises.  Not sure what it means, but just saying.

Our website getmonero.org can use more documentation. Anyone can create content and submit a pull request.
For example today I was asked for more details on our dynamic block sizing (one of our three pillars). More could be done to describe this on our website. People should not have to look in GitHub for the formula or use extensive Google searching for precise terms. Details should be readily accessible (and linked from here https://forum.getmonero.org/1/news-announcements-and-editorials/183/editorial-the-three-pillars-of-monero)

If anyone wants to contribute to writing content/guides but doesn't know Github or how to make a pull request, I would be happy to help or even submit the pull request for you if you don't have the time.

I'm working on a cross-platform Monero GUI, codenamed Mono (esperanto for "Money"). It's essentially a Node.js app built with the Electron platform: http://electron.atom.io/

Nice Cheesy

You should look at the Sia wallet, which also uses Electron. You could build on that if you didn't already make significant progress:
https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia-UI

Also, will you be making your code open source? If you do, I'll be happy to contribute or sponsor.

Let us know how it goes!!

Thanks for pointing this out! Very helpful, the Sia wallet looks great. The code will be open source, I'll definitely keep you posted when things get rolling.

Why did you choose Electron? Any idea why more mature NW.JS is not an option?

This is my first time using either on a project. After doing some research and trying both out, I couldn't really decide which one was "better". Ultimately I went with Electron because I liked their documentation a bit more. I think either of them would be suitable for the job.

Aiwe, I like that!

Here's the monero branding pack if anyone wants .ai files: https://downloads.getmonero.org/resources/branding.zip

Calling all graphic designers!

I'm working on a cross-platform Monero GUI, codenamed Mono (esperanto for "Money"). It's essentially a Node.js app built with the Electron platform: http://electron.atom.io/

I had an idea of a logo that incorporates the well-known Monero "M" design with the "Electron" atoms imposed on top, if anyone has the skills to make that look good I would love to incorporate it as an icon.

Development is still in the very early stages, so there is plenty of time if you are interested. Thanks!

After this attack (14 months ago) the Monero core devs refocused their efforts to strengthening the Monero protocol. Now we are close to reaping the full benefits of this in the 0.9 release, and anyone can compile the source now and see how much better it is.

Bitcoin also endured many attacks in its infancy, far worse than this one, it serves to make the network stronger. If you don't like it, that's fine. This is not something to invest in, it's an experiment. I find it to be a fun open source project with a great community that I like participating in and contributing my skills.

By the way, at the moment DASH has a market cap of $16.3 million and monero is $4.7.  Seems quite a few people agree with me.

While I think some sort of security audit surely would not hurt, I disagree that this is the only reason for the disparity in marketcap. Why?

There are currently 3,441 DASH masternodes visibly removing 3,441,000 DASH from the existing money supply. If i'm not mistaken that's ~55% of the current emission!

Less supply = higher price = easier to maintain a 'bigger marketcap'. Do you disagree?

many people lost coins due to a security vulnerability already.

Read about it here: https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?p=909

edit to add: i remember when this attack happened, nobody lost any coins. so while there was an attack, this statement is untrue.

one more thing: are you familiar with these research papers? https://lab.getmonero.org/

also, type bc_height in simplewallet and see what the current height is. it sounds like your wallet is stuck somehow.

the current block height is 882798.

If refresh doesn't work, next thing I would try is resyncing the wallet from scratch.

Move the wallet's .bin file to another directory - leave the .bin.keys file in the same place - then start up simplewallet and open your wallet as you normally would. It will start syncing from 0.
