2601  Other / Meta / Re: Why was self-moderated topic feature disabled? on: March 12, 2022, 02:00:52 AM
My problem is not here, topic is no longer self-moderation when I brought it back to reputation.
Sure you can not revert it back to self-moderated.

It is similar to when you create a topic, if you want to make it as self-moderated, you must do it when you compose it and before you publish it. If you publish it as non-self-moderated (normal), you will not be able to convert it into self-moderated.

It is inconvenient but it has its meaning to prevent scammers to convert their topics from non-self-moderated to self-moderated when community discuss about their scam, show scam proofs, etc. I think it is reason why theymos controls this feature this way.
2602  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATMs forced to shutdown in the UK on: March 11, 2022, 12:51:19 PM
Sounds bad for now but I think in future, ATM owners will find ways to bind themselves with regulations.

Although, it is not the end of either Bitcoin or Bitcoin ATMs, I see a good lesson from it and hope others will see it as well as agree with me. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer electronic cash and it works on a decentralized network. So, why do we need a physical machine, location to exchange Bitcoin. It breaks the core idea behind Bitcoin network.
2603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What newbies first crypto step should be on: March 11, 2022, 11:33:09 AM
Hard ware wallet is not a must or a first step to do when you join crypto.

A must step is knowing what are custodial, non-custodial wallets, differences between them and what is sort of wallet should be used. Non-custodial wallet is a wallet type to go.

Next must step is knowing how to back up a wallet (in private key, mnemonic seed, JSON, etc. - depends on each wallet) and practice to recover that wallet from a backup.
It is an important step because if you back up a wallet and don't know how to recover it, don't test your backup usability, you might get trouble later.

Next should step is don't tell anyone that you have cryptocurrency. If you tell them or reveal that on social media, you will self-expose your device, accounts, cryptocurrency and wallets to more greedy eyes.
2604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How fast can the CEX affect the bitcoin price negatively? on: March 11, 2022, 04:35:54 AM
They can not ban Bitcoin, never because Bitcoin has a healthy decentralized network so if you have your own nodes or just your own non custodial wallet, you can use Bitcoin, broadcast your Bitcoin and your transaction will be confirmed, sooner or later on the network.

CEX can only freeze accounts on their exchanges according to local regulations. It in turn relates to geo-location of a CEX and how local government want to do with Russia related things. If government wants to freeze Russian accounts, temporarily, they will order it to CEX under their control and regulations. CEX can not do things against it because they have to obey local rules to keep their exchange operating well.

Effects on Bitcoin? If it is not a big exchange, no big effect at all. If it is a big one, big effect in short term. Long term, no big effect at all because Bitcoin after 13 years here, proves that it can survive through many challenge, big or small, local or global.
2605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About bear season on: March 09, 2022, 02:34:26 PM
Dollar Cost Averaging.  When I run out of cash, I just hold on, sit back and wait for better times.  Panicking or day trading always ended bad for me.
When you run out of cash, where is source for you to spend your expenses? You will have to sell your Bitcoin or cryptocurrency to spend. If you have to sell them in bear market, you will sell in loses. It means when you sell $100 in bear market, its value would be $200, $500 or $1,000 in bull market when you originally invested in them.

I had to do this in 2018 and 2019 as well so my advice for new comers is
  • Don't use all your money to invest in crypto
  • Have a reserve for your expenses. No matter you like fiat or not, you have to reserve either fiats or stable coins in order to spend in case of bear market
2606  Economy / Economics / Re: Can crypto help Russia mitigate sanctions? on: March 09, 2022, 12:04:04 PM
Only on decentralized exchanges which have anonymous owners and core team members. If a decentralized exchange which is operated by a doxed team, it is very easily for governments to find that team, enforce them to obey law regulations and bind with current sanctions of a nation against another.

Most of trading volume in crypto still belongs to centralized exchanges so if Russia try to use cryptocurrency as one of their limited ways to mitigate sanctions, they can do it. With some disadvantage related to trading volume as said. Their choices might be reduced more if governments tighten regulations on DEX.
2607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Police can confiscate refugees' valuables. bitcoin not affected... on: March 08, 2022, 04:29:02 PM
Meanwhile bitcoin doesn't take up any space, it can be 12 words that you memorize or write down in a book spread among pages without anybody knowing what it is and can not be confiscated. All one's net-worth could be carried around like this. Grin
It reminds me methods use to hide real words by codes, tattoo, origami, etc. I am a fan of the Prison Break so if someone is wise like Michael Scoffield in that film, police can not do anything.

But it is risky if a stupid guy tries to complicate wallet backup and in the end can not recover it.  Grin
2608  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk accounts - Ukraine on: March 08, 2022, 03:14:47 PM
Putin can control most of things in Russia because he is a dictator in his regime but he can not control things globally. Beyond Russia, Putin does not mean much but I see his dangerous unpredictable decisions. It's not only because he is used to be a KGB foreign intelligence officer but also because he obsesses with his power in Russia and thinks that he can do the same globally.

When the King is mad, nuked, people still say compliment. It is what dictators think they can enjoy but hey in the end of the day, dictators have to go to the hell, one way or another. Human civilization history proves it many times. How about this time, with Putin?
2609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to the world of crypto on: March 08, 2022, 03:07:25 PM
If you are new in crypto world, the best strategy for you is long term investment. To support your long term investment, dollar cost averaging is for you.

Check https://dcabtc.com/

Even if your plan is long term, because you are newbies, you will still have very extreme emotion in first few months in this market. You will need a few years to get familiar with volatility of crypto market. Anyway, DCA is here to help you not only to get profit but also to get rid of emotional impact on your decisions.
2610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: different ways /strategies for scamming on: March 08, 2022, 01:17:05 PM
To reduce any loss of your money because of scam, if you want to invest, make donation, anything else, you should do it will small money first. Wait to see how it will be used, how that project or charity works after a while sometime.

Because if you invest or donate, others on the world do too. So scammers won't wait for your second investment or donation to do rug pull or scam exit. So if you have enough patience, you will be able to verify that project or charity is good, bad or scam. It takes time and as said, in bad case you will not lose all of your money.

Decentralize your capital to projects or charity entities.
2611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to the Bitcoin network if Russia blocks access to the internet? on: March 08, 2022, 12:59:42 PM
If anything bad happens in Russia for Bitcoin network, effect would be smaller than what happened with China mining crackdown months ago. Because the hashrate from Russia is smaller than from China.

Think different like this. If the Western world do more serious sanctions on Russia, do you think their government will ignore Bitcoin mining for their benefit? They have huge land to set up mining farms, huge power supply from oil and more. They won't easily to kill themselves by saying no to Bitcoin. We can not identify what actually happen in Russia just like in China and reported hashrate can not tell us exact geographical locations of hashrate origins.
2612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Many projects won't matter in four years time on: March 08, 2022, 12:51:26 PM
Projects probably either die after a few months, couple of years, 4+ years or are walking dead which will have revivals after completion of a big bear market. Unfortunately, if their teams are incapable of develop their projects well with excellent products, their efforts to revive their projects will be only to catch attention and pump their coins when the market is bullish. They take advantage of a bullish trend in order to get profit again. Regarding to future of such coins, from my experience, it's not good.

If you are curious with what I said, let's spend a few minutes to check Cryptocurrency Historical Data Snapshot
2613  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: It seems that more people taking crypto trading as full time job on: March 08, 2022, 01:20:00 AM
During the situation around the world where low payed jobs more people looking for opportnuties to work online.
And crypto is one of them options
Future trading is one of the most popular ways to make full time income.
If you dont know how to trade good use good signals for spot and futures trading right now many people become traders.
First, very few traders can earn net-profit. They can earn short term, temporary profit which will be eaten by loses later. In general, eventually they have net-lose.

Second, trading is not for all and future or leverage trading is for less people. If anyone say leverage or future trading is a way for everyone to get rich quickly, ignore them. In basics, it is similar to trading but happens at faster rate. Get rich more quickly temporarily and get poorer then bankrupted more quickly.

I imply that with trading, most of us get net-loses but with future or leverage trading, most of us will end with bankruptcy.
2614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How PancakeSwap detect restricted countries? on: March 07, 2022, 12:24:23 PM
It's a decentralized exchanges so if it has such restrictions, it sucks in my opinion. I don't dig deeply on how such restrictions were considered then implemented on Pancakeswap. If it is not from a DAO vote from Pancakeswap communities (holders), it is not a good movement and it breaks the decentralization of Pancakeswap.

PancakeSwap to Block Users from Blacklisted Countries in March

Some countries are there but as said, restrictions only acceptable if it is a result of DAO vote. Else, it is unacceptable!
2615  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there interested in a Virtual Visa Debit Card ? | Opinion asked on: March 07, 2022, 11:25:35 AM
Virtual, it is not a relevant and accurate word to use.

All money you transfer via bank system no matter by any tool are just figures on paper, on computer. You can not use the word virtual here because it is inaccurate. Digital or crypto is more accurate just like we can call some as digital currency or cryptocurrency. Please don't call anything as real or virtual currency. It is very misleading term.

You can name your card as crypto debit card or digital debit card or decentralized debit card but please skip the term Virtual debit card.
2616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How To Base Value of Goods and Services To Bitcoin? on: March 07, 2022, 11:02:38 AM
It's not a standard yet but if you have a platform which accepts Bitcoin as one of payment method, you will have difference prices with fiat, Bitcoin exclusively.

It is not too common because Bitcoin has yet been legal tender in many nations but it will be changed in future, I believe so. Bitcoin is a game-changer and it has changed the world so much. It will keep up its mission for wealth and freedom of global citizens. Obviously, for people who can accept it.

Soon after CBDC tracker and more CBDCs launched, we will see bigger adoption and more widely legal tender for Bitcoin.

2618  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: An advice for newbies and plebs on: March 07, 2022, 05:47:41 AM
2022 - It might be a bear market.
2023 - It might be the next opportunity to buy the Bitcoin DIP.
2024 - It might be the new BULL MARKET.
Your topic and advice are simple but in reality, it is not easy to practice for many people.

Market has ups and downs daily, weekly, bull and bear periods monthly or yearly but in general, Bitcoin is a gift for all of us because of its manificient designs and technology. Satoshi Nakamoto created it and allow all of us to get Bitcoin as a biggest gift ever in history.

Question and challenge for each of us is: whether we are able to accept Bitcoin; actually step in and invest in Bitcoin; able to have diamond hands and enough patience, determination to hold it for several years. I present it in ordinal steps which are important to decide who we are in Bitcoin market and whether we are able to earn profit in this market, with Bitcoin or not.
2619  Other / Archival / Re: Complex password is the key to security on: March 05, 2022, 01:34:06 PM
Complex password is good but a more important thing is back up your password. Weak, strong or complex password, you always must back it up and store back up safely, secretly and available to use in case you need it.

If you are bad at password brute-force, you will lose your crypto if you lose (forget, broken backup or whatever reasons)

2620  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scalpers and day traders - Never lie, be realistic. on: March 04, 2022, 02:26:11 PM
Don't lie!

I earned a lot from trading and lost a lot from trading as well. Additionally, with 5 years in crypto market, I can say from my experience that trading is not for all but investment is for all or most of us. Fast comes fast goes, it is about trading. Because if you don't have ability to be disciplined and determined with your actions as responses to price actions, I am sure you will lose all capital and temporary profit very easily.

With investment, it is much more easily. You only have to choose good projects, hold and wait for good price to sell. Challenge in investment is most investors take profit at minor earnings and regret. Then enter again, and stucked at peaks, ATHs.  Smiley
